@Babynum1 just not fizzy/milkshake type stuff because the fluid from those gets absorbed further along the digestive tract. according to sonographer I had last time

Clear fluid is filtered out early on water/squash/tea and all that type stuff.

@MrsTD88 @FTEngineerM Thank you Ladies, I’ve gone right off the taste of normal water 😅 has anybody else noticed that food smells horrible to them or is that just me?!😂

Kirky658 · 25/02/2021 13:32

@babynum1 thanks for the bday wishes hehe. oh god the waking up to pee drives me mad... 4 times last night. And the mood swings omg!!! I don't know about the squash I have had several internal scans before and always been told water, I think it is because water goes through to your bladder straight away as nothing to digest x

FTEngineerM · 25/02/2021 13:40

Yes to smells 😬 I cannot stand fish, olives, frazzles, dog food the list could go on.

MR FTEng brought me a Cheese board in the other night and I nearly vomed at the olives. Grim. I usually love them.

Yes to smell sensitivity. I’ve gone off chicken and eggs. The thought, the sight and the smell of them make me vom and annoyingly suddenly my DH fancies eggs for breakfast everyday, do they just do things to pi** us off? Oh and I also cannot stand the scent of things like shampoo and perfume now.

Babynum1 · 25/02/2021 14:02

@Kirky658 I get so dizzy if I fly out of bed to pee so I have to sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes before hand - who would have thought pregnancy would give us an insight to life at 80? 😅

@FTEngineerM dog food!! Vom! I’m on strike from feeding the dogs at the moment it’s absolutely foul and doesn’t even smell like dog food?!

@Mamabearwhere. Haha! I’m sure they do it to p* us off 😂 totally with you on the smell of chicken, cheese, onions and the smell of tea and coffee! I use to love coffee too so I’m hoping that will come back😂

CherylLW · 25/02/2021 15:41

@unicornpower I had my 12 week NHS scan last week and they gave me the photos for free, they didn’t even mention it even tho the booking letter said I would have to pay.

A quick question- is anyone over 12 weeks still taking their folic acid/multi vitamins? It says for the first 12 weeks but I’ve spoken to a midwife and she said you can carry on until the birth but another midwife said I didn’t need to??

Equimum · 25/02/2021 16:01

Yes, yes, yes to food smells. I live garlic but can’t have it in the house at the moment. DH also had to stop eating it as I can’t be near him when it’s on his breath! I also had to give some daffodils to our neighbour, as the smell of them in the house was horrendous. Funnily enough, though, FTEngineerM I buy Frazzles every time I go to the shop, and can’t seem to stop myself!

I keep chickens and have been giving loads of eggs to friends, neighbours and colleagues under the pretence of "having a surplus" which is only partially true...

I've really gone off eggs and garlic. For a while my dairy intolerance also heightened but that seems to have calmed down again (just over 12 weeks now) so I can tolerate a little milk and cheese in cooking.

Last time round I went off prawns and curry, I've not tried them but have a feeling I'd be OK eating pad thai or chicken korma (rather fancy both options actually)! Weird how I've had such different experiences...

Poppins2016 · 25/02/2021 16:10

@CherylLW you don't need to keep taking folic acid/multivitamins past 12 weeks. NHS guidance here: www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/vitamins-supplements-and-nutrition/

I'll be taking a pregnancy multivitamin/mineral supplement right up to the end, but that's mostly because I was low in iron during my last pregnancy and I've gone off so many foods I want to maximise my vitamin/mineral intake another way! I'm also still breastfeeding my toddler, so it's another way to ensure there's adequate nutrition for all of us!

They do say that your body will take what it needs for baby during pregnancy (although you could argue that's a good case for making sure there's adequate nutrition for you!) but let's face it, these supplements didn't exist a hundred years ago and most children were born perfectly healthy!

CherylLW · 25/02/2021 16:15

Thanks @Poppins2016 I was thinking I’ll just carry on taking it to the end too as it’s going all the nutrients I need in there. It’s just a pregnancy multi vitamin so all the vitamin D, Iron etc I will need.

My eating isn’t back to 100% yet so I think it will definitely help get in anything I might be missing 😊

unicornpower · 25/02/2021 16:37

@CherylLW oh great! How did your scan go? Sorry if you've already said! How are you feeling? I think ill take the money anyway and if they don't ask for it then thats a win isnt it haha my midwife told me to keep taking the pregnacare vitamins as they have vitamin D and other things but I dont think it's a MUST. She said folic acid wasn't necessary after 12w so I guess it's your preference!

@Babynum1 omg I'm missing coffee so much, I can't stand the thought of it at the moment at all. My main turn off is pizza weirdly, just the smell of it turns my stomach completely! And pretty much all vegetables which is rubbish too. I adore melon though and plain noodles have helped! So strange isnt it.

2021mumma · 25/02/2021 16:42

Thanks all! @Noodles4Me it took exactly a week. I was impatient waiting too and called them to find out if they had results and they did! With my previous pregnancy I got results in about 3 days so maybe give them a call tomorrow you never know! Good luck with yours

CherylLW · 25/02/2021 16:43

@unicornpower My scan went really well thanks 😊 it’s looking exactly how things should be and there was nothing they were worried about.. was such a relief! I’m 13 weeks tomorrow, my nausea is a lot better, still getting it but nowhere near as intense! I’m getting a bit more energy back too at last!
I’m only stressing about sleeping really at the moment as I think it’s best to sleep on your side and I’m a back sleeper so trying to train myself to get on my side!
Thanks for the advice on the vitamins, I think I’ll keep taking mine 😊

How are you feeling? Is it long until your scan? (Sorry if you’ve already said) xx

unicornpower · 25/02/2021 17:43

@CherylLW oh thats fab news! It must be such a relief to get that news that all is ok, its the first major milestone isnt it so feels so significant. My scan isn't until two weeks tomorrow, I'll be nearly 13weeks by then so time is dragging! I had a wobble today as I have felt much better the past few days and haven't been sick so started to worry that somethings gone wrong, I've googled and it seems quite common around the 10 week mark to sometimes have a reprieve so I'm hoping they come back soon 😢 it's all so anxious isn't it, im just hoping our scan at 8w3d was a good sign.

Ahh yes, I read that about sleeping on your side, could you maybe get a pregnancy pillow as they might help you make the transition to your side as they're quite snuggly and might make it more comfortable if you don't usually sleep on your side?

Squibble84 · 25/02/2021 18:14

Hello all and congrats on your pregnancies! I posted on the other September 2021 thread but there doesn’t seem to be many people on it.

I’m currently 12 1/2 weeks - had my scan on Monday which has given me a 6th September due date. I’m in the same boat as others here though due to age (36) and also a previous chromosomal problem that I’m extremely nervous about receiving the blood test results testing for any trisomies - with our first pregnancy, the baby had patau syndrome so I was thinking about doing the harmony as well but was going to wait until the combined test results come through next week.

Has anyone else here had the harmony?

Babynum1 · 25/02/2021 19:11

Scan went better than expected ❤️ We saw a very wriggly little baby with a really strong heartbeat the most magical experience! We were also dated at 10+4 so a little bit further along than we first thought giving us a new EDD of 19/09/2021❤️

@unicornpower. My morning sickness totally stopped around 8 weeks which freaked me out to the point of having our early scan - I believe it is something to do with the placenta starting to take over? X

FTEngineerM · 25/02/2021 19:17

Congrats on the scans everyone must be a relief when you see it for yourself.

Making myself sick with nerves about tomorrow. I have started feeling nauseous again though and I had this mad urge to bleach the banisters earlier 🤭🤷🏽‍♀️. I just want to see if everything’s ok or not.

CherylLW · 25/02/2021 19:36

@unicornpower symptoms are tricky things aren’t they! It’s hard when we have them
And hard when they go! My nausea stopped about 2 weeks ago when I was 11 weeks and then it was back at 11+6 and it’s been on and off since! I’m hoping the next two weeks go quick for you, I found just keeping as busy as I could helped...(when I wasn’t napping). If your worrying I would always say call the maternity centre as I find speaking to a midwife always puts my mind at rest. X

I’ve been looking into pregnancy pillows, there are so many types! Anyone have any recommendations?

Kirky658 · 25/02/2021 19:52

@babynum1 that's my current due date ❤️ I imagine it will change next week at my scan though.

bewitchingnight · 25/02/2021 20:10

@FTEngineerM good luck for tomorrow!

So exciting to hear a sour everyone's scans, mine is next Thursday, so nervous! I'm 12 weeks tomorrow which is such an exciting milestone I've been counting down to it for what feels like forever.

@unicornpower my symptoms improved massively around 10 weeks, nausea is making a comeback the last few days though Confused

Squibble84 · 25/02/2021 20:17

@FTEngineerM good luck for tomorrow! The worry and the wait is horrible isn’t it?! I’m waiting for the blood test results back and also feel sick with worry (which on top of the nausea is just delightful! 🙈) the second trimester is much nicer!

@CherylLW I’ve got one of those full length body pillows that a friend gave to me, not sure what brand but it’s amazing!! I would use it even if I wasn’t pregnant!

Babynum1 · 25/02/2021 21:46

@FTEngineerM good luck for your scan tomorrow I will keep everything crossed for you! Xx

unicornpower · 26/02/2021 07:42

@FTEngineerM good luck for your scan today! Keeping everything crossed for you that all is ok, im sure it will be!

@Bewitchingnight that makes me feel better, thank you! Im just such a worrier, especially after our loss last year (was super early so im already leaps and bounds past that point) sorry your nausea is coming back though, I hope it doesn't hang around for long for you

@CherylLW yes I might give the midwives a call, I was tempted to book another scan but I'm going to see how I go over the next few days and if I'm starting to really worry I will just go.

@Babynum1 same EDD as me! Although mine could change I suppose after our dating scan. Yes it's so strange isnt it how they just disappear and there's no warning? So glad your scan was brilliant! Now you can relax and enjoy no sickness haha

Kirky658 · 26/02/2021 08:19

@ftengineerm good luck for today! It's my birthday today, been awake since 5am, insomnia most of the night. Got the day off work so planning a nap! Xx
