How’s everyone this eve?

Can’t get the scan out of my mind 😬when it was booked I didn’t give it two thoughts and the closer it’s getting I’m not thinking about anything else at the minute 👀.

I got my letter 2 weeks ahead of the scan and I've been trying to keep busy and think about everything happening before it,
A day at work, painting to do, new carpet to be fitted, online college session, midwife appt, blood tests..... been so busy and still 6 sleeps to go!

Just hoping it will all be worth it and amazing when it does come!

Hopefulmummie · 24/02/2021 23:34

I've my scan a week tomorrow and getting more nervous. I'm still really sick and throwing up alot so I hope it's a good sign but I just keep reading about missed miscarriage and trying to stay positive

Mamabearwhere · 25/02/2021 07:03

I have my scan in three weeks (I’ll be 13 weeks) and I’m starting to get really excited and impatient. Also both my previous pregnancies they told me the gender at 3 months and I’m just really hoping they will be able to this time as well.

@Hopefulmummie bless you, the sickness is just horrendous isn’t it. I’m still nauseas 24/7 and being sick multiple times a day. Starting to get a bit of energy back which is so nice. I got the urge to deep clean my fridge yesterday which is how I know the fatigue must be shifting!

Kirky658 · 25/02/2021 07:15

Mine is next Wednesday and I'm starting to get really nervous now. I'm like you @hopefulmummie and hopelessly googling missed miscarriage signs and stats but I know I can't do anything about it.. Trying to keep hubby calm but he's so excited about it xx

Scotti84 · 25/02/2021 08:26

Morning everyone,

I know the nerves, I made myself so ill before the scan and when I got there and the dr said so let’s take a look at the baby I somehow immediately felt settled and then on the scan seeing everything ok is such a relief. I think because there’s not much confirmations at this stage it’s kinda hard to believe it’s going as it should, with not much outward signs. I’m looking forward to getting a belly now, I think that will help with reassurance when I can actually see something. Just hang in there you lot, you’ve got your ladies here sending positivity and good thoughts and let us know when you’ve had the scans!

I spoke with my boss yesterday and she was great, we’ve changed our hotel concept so we dont have a restaurant anymore which means I will only be working from the office so I can keep working until I’m not allowed to which is fab. Only stupid comment came from my boss’ dad who had the hotel before her and has no concept of life outside of work who told me that reliable employees are important and I need to consider the needs of the hotel and that my office is big enough to put a babybed in... erm, no. Sorry, but I’m just an employee, it’s not my life calling as much as I enjoy it and in no way at all will i put the hotel before my child. Fortunately my boss agrees. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lozza85 · 25/02/2021 08:50

I'm with you all on scan anxiety, still just under 3 weeks till mine and ill be about 13 weeks. Had a bit of a cry yesterday because of worry. My nausea seems to have pretty much gone which is good and bad. I hope it isn't a sign of something being wrong but I read symptoms can ease around 10 weeks so I'm holding on to that.

I had an early scan at 8 weeks which was reassuring but now it just feels like a long time ago and still a long time to wait.

I'm 35 (36 next week) so automatically have higher chance of chromosome issues which is making me even more worried. Keep telling myself that lots of mums are my age or older and have healthy pregnancies. My MIL was over 40 when she had my DH and SIL.

Also been along week and I'm desperate for the weekend and some sleep ins!

Scotti84 · 25/02/2021 09:03

@Lozza85 I’m in your boat with the chromosome worry, I’m 36, will be 37 on the due date. They looked at the neck on the scan and you can see straight away if something looks untoward, but like you say how many people older than us have children without any problems, we could drive ourselves crazy when we consider every possibility. I’m trying to trust that my body knows what it’s doing and is fully equipped for the task. I’m not usually a fan of meditation but there are some good YouTube videos that help with positive thinking and people sort of talking calmly that everything will be ok etc, it definately helps hearing that at times of stress, might be worth a go?

unicornpower · 25/02/2021 09:17

@Lozza85 I feel the exact same as you do, my scan is two weeks tomorrow and i haven't been sick in two days, I keep reading that the placenta picks up some slack at around 10 weeks so relieves us of the burden but my sickness was so bad on Monday and although i felt nauseous on and off over the past couple of days, I havent been sick! I just keep googling MMC but there's mostly positive stories so I'm trying not to panic. Have you had a scan already? Sorry I'd you've said but I havent read the full thread back yet!

@kirky658 and @hopefulmummie it sounds like we are all in the same boat with the worry! Im sure it'll all be okay, we just have to try and stay positive dont we!

@Scotti84 can't believe your boss' dad said that about a baby bed in your office?! That's ridiculous to expect that! At least your boss is on your side so hopefully put him back in his box.

I'm really hoping the next two weeks go quickly, it feels like ages ago I got my scan letter, can't believe it is still two weeks tomorrow 😢 did everyone else's letter say you have to pay for the scan photos? At our scan at EPU the sonographer just gave us two pics but im not sure if that was just because it was in EPU and their procedures are different. I'm also wishing for my sickness to return, seems crazy as I was so poorly but I want a sign from baby that it's still okay! Never thought I'd be wishing to be sick 😷

unicornpower · 25/02/2021 09:18

Sorry @Lozza85 just saw you had a scan at 8 weeks! Please excuse my morning brain

2021mumma · 25/02/2021 09:30

Hope all is well I had a harmony test at 11 weeks wanted to be sure all ok due to my age (will be 40 when baby born) and got my harmony test results back this week and everything is well- low probability for all syndromes and found out we are having a boy I’m so happy! Got my NHS scan next week when I will be 13.5weeks and going in with a lot less anxiety. Good luck for everyone else that is having scans around this time x

leftitlate37 · 25/02/2021 09:41

great news @2021mumma! and congrats on the boy!! how exciting!
In same boat as couple of you @Scotti84 @Lozza85 am worried cos ill be 38 by time baby is born. got 12 week scan tomorrow - cant believe the day is nearly here, its dragged so much! feel like the exhaustion has let up a bit the last few days - hoping everything will be ok tomorrow when we go....hope they just say as soon as they can see things are ok! it's the silence whilst they wiggle the probe that gives me that feeling like waiting for the lift doors to open - panic!

Lozza85 · 25/02/2021 09:48

That's so great @2021mumma! You must be so relieved!

I was looking at the harmony test, from what I saw it's still a screening test but more sensitive than the NHS screening? So if it comes back as high, then the more invasive tests are still recommended to find out for sure. I'm not sure if I want to do the harmony test or wait and see on the NHS test.

Equimum · 25/02/2021 10:18

That’s fabulous news 2021mumma.

I’m another one feeling really anxious about my scan, which is a week today. The nausea has reduced to almost nothing this week, which I know can be normal at this stage, but is freezing me out quite a lot (sorry if that sounds insensitive to anyone still suffering). I’m also starting to feel quite hungry - again could just be that the placenta has kicked in, but my mind keep wandering!

Provided my scan is all good, I’m having the Harmony test a few days later. Yes Lozza85 that’s pretty much how it works. We didn’t even have the combined test with our older two, and decided that we would just go ahead with the pregnancies whatever. This time, though, I am 39 and have two older children, who already have an establish way of life etc, and I just feel we really need to know (as far as we ever can).

Scotti84 I can’t believe your boss’ dad said that. You are so tight not to put work first. DH had a relatively new job when we had our eldest and he pretty much missed the first year due to long hours and excessive travel. Looking back, he really regrets it, and was much more present without second.

duchessrose · 25/02/2021 10:19

Great news on the Harmony test @2021mumma! I had a Harmony test last week but it came back and they said there wasn't enough fetal DNA, so I've had to go back for another blood test. Feeling anxious that I won't get a conclusive result now. I'll be 42 when baby is born so I felt the test was necessary given the risk.

@Lozza85 the Harmony test detects 99% of cases with Downs (think it's 80% for NHS screening). I didn't have the Harmony test with DD (I was 38 when I had her) but being that bit older makes me more anxious. It's £400 to get it done privately here (includes 2 scans and NT measurement, plus you can find out the sex) so if you're not at high risk due to age I might just wait.

@unicornpower yes they charged for photos at our NHS scan (with my last pg). Think it was £5 and they only took cash too, but that might have changed now!

My sickness and headaches have eased off and I'm starting to feel normal again. However I have loads of stuff to catch up with at work because I feel like I've just been treading water and just trying to do the minimum for the past month.

Babynum1 · 25/02/2021 10:21

After not feeling sick for a couple of weeks and my boobs being intermittently sore I’ve worried myself into booking a private scan for this afternoon at 4pm. I’m 10+2 today and so anxious about everything as it’s my first pregnancy - it’s a minefield of worry isn’t it?!

Kirky658 · 25/02/2021 11:22

@2022mumma yay that's great! I am quite fortunate that I'm only 27 (tomorrow actually I'll be 27 lol), so I think we will just take the nuchal standard test plus bloods and take it from there. Hopeful that things should be OK.

@babynum1 it really is hun. I'm 10+5 today so similar to you but the boob soreness is not letting up. If anything the fatigue has been worse past 2 weeks. But I think it can be different for everyone from what I've read some ladies react better to the increase in hormones, I've always been excessively sensitive to them anyway.

@duchessrose I can't agree more on the treading water at work front I am struggling to concentrate, I'm at home but could easily go for a nap regularly and I keep forgetting things too!

Noodles4Me · 25/02/2021 11:46

@2021mumma congrats! Incidentally, how long did it take for your Harmony results? Had my test on Sunday, and am very impatient wanting my results!

Babynum1 · 25/02/2021 11:53

@Kirky658 happy birthday for tomorrow! I’m just a nervous wreck at the minute and hoping the scan will put my mind at ease a little bit! I’m still waking up to pee multiple times during the night and crying at EVERYTHING 😂

Also does anybody know if it is ok to drink squash instead of plain water before the scan? X

MrsTD88 · 25/02/2021 12:07

Good luck @Babynum1 I'm sure everything will be fine. My letter for my NHS scan says to drink clear liquid so guessing just water or flavoured water.
