Thought we could continue on here? Unless someone has made a different one.

@Noodles4Me ah ok. I'm 38.
@Lozza85 I don't know what the NHS class as "old" but I had a really helpful conversation with the screening midwife at Leeds General Infirmary. She explained to me how the NHS screening combined works (downs/pataus/edwards) and how the NIPT testing works. NHS base the results on age, hormone levels in your blood and the nuchal translucency on the scan. Since I'm 38, I automatically start with a 1 in 190 chance, the blood results and scan can move that number up or down. Anything higher than 1 in 150 is considered higher risk. The NIPT test is a blood test which finds samples of the placenta in your bloodstream and tests that for your "chance". That's why it's a lot more accurate. I'm going to discuss with my midwife further at my booking appointment tomorrow. We might wait for the NHS results first as the private testing is so expensive. I think it's worth discussing the options and understanding what everything means. I kind of know now that if I get a scary result with the NHS results not to completely panic. The NHS also offer CVS and amnio (which carry a small risk of miscarriage) if you get a high risk result. FWW, my sister had a false positive result on a NIPT test for pataus syndrome. It's really rare but can happen. She then had a CVS and an amnio and now has a very healthy 4 year old. It's thought that she got a false positive because she had a miscarriage before falling pregnant again and the sample found that... The doctor wanted to do the amnio after the CVS came back all clear because he'd literally never seen a false positive result on the NIPT testing. It's generally a really accurate test.

@Lozza85 my trust classes 35+ as old...they don't say old obviously, but 'riskier'

gigi556 · 11/02/2021 07:50

OMG. Terrible pregnancy insomnia 😭😭😭 I hate not sleeping. Feel terrible. Really dreading the newborn phase again 😬

Bubbles1st · 11/02/2021 08:59

@gigi556 at least with a bee born there will be a good reason to not sleep 😬
I have started listening to meditation to help me, I never get to the end of it and it's only 15-25 mins long.

I do wake up early though, and sometimes that's more difficult to get back to sleep.

Rach921 · 11/02/2021 10:20

Hi ladies. I posted in the other September 2021 thread but not sure that’s active anymore ☺️

I’m currently 7+6 with my first pregnancy. I had an early scan at the weekend and saw the heart beat which was amazing. Not heard anything from the hospital/midwife yet and not sure when I should expect to hear?

Been really struggling with the nausea and generally feeling rubbish. How people do this more than once I’ll never know 😂 I feel very emotionally drained with it and finding each day a massive struggle. Really hoping it passes soon

Scotti84 · 11/02/2021 10:59

@gigi556 thanks for posting that info, that was really helpful. Over here the healthcare systems great but they just ‘get on with stuff’ and don’t explain much. It’s good to understand a bit more how they rate the risk.

@Rach921 welcome back! I felt like that at about that time too. My other half was asking about brothers and sisters and I was ready to clobber him, but I’m now week 11 and happy to say for the most the crappiness has passed. Still have a bit of nausea and stuff but nowhere near as unbearable as it was. Managed to get my sleeping pattern a bit better too which I’m sure helps! Hang in there, better days are on their way! X

gigi556 · 11/02/2021 11:03

@Scotti84 where are you based?

Scotti84 · 11/02/2021 11:09

South Germany, but originally from York.

duchessrose · 11/02/2021 12:33

@gigi556 Thank you, that was a useful explanation. I'm 41 so I've booked my Harmony test already.
I've booked mine for 10+1, I hope that doesn't end up being too early. I just wanted to know as early as possible, so I have options.

I'm having terrible problems sleeping as well. I've been managing to get to sleep OK, but then I wake up and I can't get back to sleep. Definitely dreading going back to the newborn days (and with a toddler to deal with this time as well!).

InTheLibrary · 11/02/2021 12:39

Hi all it’s been a while! Hope everyone has been keeping ok.
More nausea and tiredness here, completely gone off meat. Also eating SO many carbs!!

strangerontheinternet · 11/02/2021 12:40

Sorry bit of a change in topic but what pregnancy apps do people use? I've heard of ones that tell you baby's size etc id like something like that?

Scotti84 · 11/02/2021 12:54

@strangerontheinternet I use pregnancy+ which is a pink square with a close up of a baby face and hands and pregnancy tracker which is like a yellow cartoon baby in a womb.

I also got a really good book that gives info day by day, The Day-by-Day Pregnancy Book:... www.amazon.de/dp/0241312817?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. Not sure if that link will work but I’ll try!

I did see an app where it said the size of the baby in relation to animals... that did freak me out when it said at the last week it’s the size of a goat 😂😂 much prefer the fruit measurement system!

Bubbles1st · 11/02/2021 14:04

@strangerontheinternet I've downloaded what to expect, daily tips and weekly videos. I like it

Hopefulmummie · 11/02/2021 17:14

We told our t immediate families last night thay were delighted :)

bewitchingnight · 11/02/2021 17:20

@Hopefulmummie we'll be scan buddies! Mine is three weeks today as well Grin

Hopefulmummie · 11/02/2021 17:34

@bewitchingnight oh yay :) how far along will you be? Ill be 11+2 but was measuring 2 days ahead at private scan

CherylLW · 11/02/2021 17:40

@Hopefulmummie I’ve got my scan next Thursday.. I’m so nervous but trying to not let myself stress too much!! It will be 3 weeks after I had my private scan. X

Equimum · 11/02/2021 17:43

bewitchingnight & Hopefulmummie I’m a scan buddy too - also three weeks today!

I called a local clinic and booked my NIPT today. I’m having that five days after the scan, so will just have the bloods done at the appointment. Apart from my best friend, we have decided not to tel anyone until we get the result.

bewitchingnight · 11/02/2021 17:53

@Hopefulmummie @Equimum ah exciting! We haven't told anyone yet either, can't wait to hopefully tell my mum if all goes well. I'll be 12+6.

leftitlate37 · 11/02/2021 18:55

ooo my scan is 2 weeks today! must be a thursday thing! will be about 12+3 but measured few days behind at a private scan. its gonna be a long 2 weeks, keeping everything crossed all is ok for us all!

Equimum · 12/02/2021 07:52

leftitlate37 yes, I am getting a bit impatient now.

DH and I were chatting last night and realised that I am going to have to go to the scan on my own. Unfortunately we don’t have a childcare bubble and no relatives near-by, so nobody to watch our older two. I’m now feeling even more anxious, as I’ll be alone if it’s bad news. I know it’s a small issue in the grand scheme, but it will be strange as he’s been there for all the other scans.

Brightspark12 · 12/02/2021 08:07

Hiya guys hope everyone well! I have an early scan booked next week at 8+2! Had a bit of a mare on Tuesday... had some spotting and completely freaked out, went to the doctor who referred me to the EPU who basically just said it’s common to spot and because it has stopped and no cramps it is unlikely to be a MC but gave me a number to ring if it gets worse. Thankfully no more blood since then! Has anyone had any spotting at all? Paranoid about the baby now hence why I’ve booked the private scan x

Scotti84 · 12/02/2021 09:34

@Equimum I’m with you on those feelings, my other half isn’t allowed in at all with me because of Corona (even though he has to have bi-weekly tests through work so we know he’s negative but I won’t get started on that) and I hate it! It’s his first too and it just seems so unfair that he’s missing out on seeing the scans. Plus there’s things that need to be discussed together and decisions about stuff that I don’t like making without him. I just hope he is allowed to be at the birth!

Equimum · 12/02/2021 09:38

Brightspark12 sorry you more going through this. Hopefully the scan will be reassuring. I had some spotting with both of my older two. Like you, I was told it was quite normal and it all turned out fine both times.

Scotti84 I am sorry you are not allowed you husband there. That’s harsh, especially when it’s your first. Hopefully things will have moved on by September and he’ll be there for the birth.

KHR1 · 12/02/2021 09:45

@Scotti84 so sorry that your husband isn't allowed to scans with you. I think it's very unfair that different areas have different rules despite us all being in lockdown. I really hope he can be with you for the birth, noone should have to go through that alone. Fingers crossed things change quickly so he will be able to come to scans later.
