Has anyone else had their health visitors appointment? I've just got a letter through for her to come visit 1st feb. I was going to call them to see if that's necessary and if it can just be done over the phone - I'm isolating now given the restrictions they have in place around birthing partners etc! Just wondered what they talk about in their visits? X

babydust2412 · 20/01/2021 16:51

@jbx10 mine just came to chat to me about everything and see how I'm doing before babys born and explain how they'll care for us xx she did give me an option to do it over the phone instead so if you call up and tell them you're choosing to isolate before baby is born and would rather do it over the phone I'm sure they'd be ok with that x

Safxxx · 20/01/2021 16:55

@IamC wow you will be the first being ticked off the list with a baby 💙
Hopefully all goes well Xxx

Safxxx · 20/01/2021 16:57

You don't need to remove snow suit or pram suit before putting them in car seats.

MrsMesh · 20/01/2021 17:05

Hi,

Sorry I'm late, but, please can I join the thread? Finding these last few weeks a bit hard with lockdown and the rubbish weather.

I'm due my 2nd little boy on Feb 13th 2021 😁

Boymumto4 · 20/01/2021 17:13

@Safxxx removing coat/pramsuit etc for car seat is advised due to the baby not being able to regulate their temperature or tell you they are too hot. It is also a safety feature with regards to how tight the straps are against them, the pramsuit/coat will make the straps much more loose therefore putting baby at risk of being flung if you were to get in to an accident. There are a few youtube videos demonstrating this.

@jbx10 I am also 35w today, however due to all my other complications with this pregnancy I had a chat with consultant over the phone and she said it was all booked for 37w. Unfortunately for me I am a very rare case so most of the obstetric team at my local hospital know me or know of my case and I have been told it would be used as q case study for teaching in a few years which is quite cool.

Stef92 · 20/01/2021 17:38

@jbx10 I had my health visitor round before Christmas. We went through breast feeding, safe sleeping, my childhood (how I was disciplined etc), my relationship with hubby, who would be my support once he goes back to work and she gave me leaflets on post natal depression. She also said I should've had a red book given to me at my 20 week scan (not received this) and told me when she'll be coming round to see me after baby is born (I've forgotten when she is coming lol)

Safxxx · 20/01/2021 17:45

@Boymumto4 ok thanks did'nt know that, to be honest i've never bought the thick bulky ones, i usualy buy the thin fleecy ones, and have not had issues with car seats with them.

Safxxx · 20/01/2021 17:53

@Boymumto4 were your other pregnancies all fine? How interesting they will use your case as study in the future. What have they diagnosed you with?

Safxxx · 20/01/2021 17:55

@MrsMesh Hi welcome...it is hard were all in the same boat. Xx

Muriel84 · 20/01/2021 18:00

@Stef92 wow that sounds like a lot of info she wanted! I’ve not heard anything from a health visitor...

Char41zam · 20/01/2021 18:28

Welcome all the new people! @MrsMesh that’s my dd but I am getting induced on the 4th 😊 we are all having a bit of a tough time so it’s good to come and chat and share it on here x

wannabe123 · 20/01/2021 18:29

Hello to all the newcomers!

@jbx10 I had my health visitor chat over the phone. She just introduced herself and her role and then talked about safe sleep and my plans for feeding. It lasted about 20 minutes.

I'm 35+5. I had a growth scan today and baby is breech. He has also slowed slightly in growth (from 90th percentile down to about 75th) and my ovarian cyst has grown slightly. Because of my cyst, they won't do an ECV so I've got to go back in 2 weeks for another scan and if he hasn't turned then they will book me in for a c section. I think I feel okay about it all but obviously a c section isn't ideal. Fingers crossed he'll move by himself.

pampero · 20/01/2021 18:34

Wow what an active day! Glad to see im not the only one erring slightly in denial on labour until I have no choice otherwise. Excited and nervous is the exact description id agree with in terms of whats to come.

@jbx10 @stef92 I got a letter with a date when my health visitor will come round- due next week but remains to be seen if it is still face to face or whether it gets moved to over the phone. The same day I got that letter I also received the red book via post. Assume its one of those things if you don't get before birth they'd bring on their first visit post birth maybe?

OnNaturesCourse · 20/01/2021 18:58

@Safxxx

You don't need to remove snow suit or pram suit before putting them in car seats.
I've been advised you do by midwives, health care professionals and staff in baby shops when fitting carseats.

Stef92 · 20/01/2021 19:01

@Muriel84 yeah she was here for ages! My midwife asked if I'd heard from the HV when I went to see her after Christmas.

@pampero I've been told I should get the red book when I go in to have the baby as apparently it needs to be filled in before you leave the hospital. 🤷🏼‍♀️

babbit87 · 20/01/2021 19:01

Hmmm I've heard nothing from health visitor? Maybe because I'm not FTM?

I'm getting jealous of all you ladies who are due or being induced soon, (not that I actually want to be induced but more I've had enough of pregnancy!).

Best not to worry about labour too much, you will go into 'labour land' do what you gotta do!

pampero · 20/01/2021 19:06

@stef92, that shows how much I've looked in said red book as I didnt know that! Might go take a better look now.

@babbit87 I'm with you on the slight jealousy factor. Not wanting to wish the time away, but equally feel like I've been pregnant for ages and want to meet the little soul now! Haha

IamC · 20/01/2021 19:07

@babbit87 same, no home visits or talk of them - but then I've barely seen my local midwife, she took a step back when I started my twice weekly PAU visits. But I feel I may have missed out on a lot of info because of this.

Thegirlhasnoname · 20/01/2021 19:12

This is my 2nd baby and I had a phone call (was meant to be FaceTime but I was happy for audio only!) for the pre-birth stuff at 35 weeks.

Tomorrow will be the most pregnant I have ever been - DD was born at 36+6 - and I’m 37 weeks bang on tomorrow. Definitely in denial even though my section is booked in for when I’m 39 weeks. I’ve packed the babies hospital bag but mine is just sat empty in the corner of our bedroom

Maybe tomorrow i will tackle packing it 😅

Boymumto4 · 20/01/2021 19:47

@Safxxx
I havent been diagnosed me with anything, i have gestational hypertension (pregnancy high blood pressure).
Yeah, my other 3 pregnancies were all fine. They were all good weights, 8lb 6, 8lb 13 3/4, 8lb 6. Whereas this lil man is predicted to be about 4.5 - 5lbs. All my children have the same dad, nothing is different which is why my case is soo rare ShockConfused

Newmumfeb2021 · 20/01/2021 19:55

Wow so much activity on the group!
I am so excited for you @IamC :) good luck and hope your hospital bags are ready :)

I have not heard/ seen anything from or about HV yet! I was told about red book to be given to me at the hospital I think. My next appointment is on Monday, so I can check..

Safxxx · 20/01/2021 20:08

@Boymumto4 just shows how things can change without any explanation. Lovely weights of your previous kids. Hopefully this one won't be as small as they say 🤞

Safxxx · 20/01/2021 20:13

@OnNaturesCourse its been 9yrs since i had my youngest, back then i had not heard about the safety of these suits associated with car seats....

So i apologise ladies for the misinformation 😩
Again i have bought light fleecy all in one suits and we don't go far in journeys, and our hospital is close by so he won't be in it for long.

jbx10 · 20/01/2021 20:18

Thank you everyone for updates on their HV appointments. I called them this afternoon and she has requested it be a tel call don't see it being an issue given the circumstances!

@wannabe123 fingers crossed your little one moves for your next scan. I know my baby was head down at my last scan and since then has turned breech then now turned back head down so you still have time for baby to move 😊

@Boymumto4 that is interesting that theyll be using you as a case study! I hope everything goes well with your induction. I'm not convinced how accurate the growth scans are but I suppose you won't know until their here. As long as baby gets here safe & sound then I don't mind so I'm not worried about being induced as long as my OH can be there to support me through labour, whatever that looks like, I'll be happy with that!
