Evening all 😊 had our 20w scan yesterday, all went perfectly and had a lovely sonographer who went through so much with us. We're keeping the sex a surprise so tried my best to not look at that area, just in case!

I'm also due June 8th, think I'm going to start mat leave a week before. I'll be working from home after 28w anyway so it won't exactly be strenuous for me. Haven't decided how long to take yet though.

Is anyone using anything particular on their stomach right now? Im using a shea body oil (and sometimes rosehip) and a snail moisturiser as well but my skin is always really dry - anyone have any recommendations? Dont fancy bio oil as ££ but very open to other oils!

@curiouscat1987 I had some Elemis Japanese Camellia oil for Christmas which is very nice!

@curiouscat1987 I randomly picked up a nivea body oil last week (q10 firming + stretch marks) much cheaper than bio oil and isn’t running out as quickly so far. Smells nice too!
Also did you mention on the last thread about the oyster 3? I think this is the one we’re going to choose but like you say doesn’t get talked about a lot! I found it was the easiest to use, packed down fairly small and decent price for the quality. Going to have the 20wk scan next Tuesday and if all ok will put the order in.

@curiouscat1987 I got some Neal's yard mother's balm for Christmas and my belly is smooth and soft AF into the morning after. Not sure how much it is though...

Hi guys

Is there anyway I can reduce my fear of my scans and appointments. I feel really scared about my 20 weeks scan after the fiasco of my 12 weeks scan. >.< makes me feel stupid but I can't get over the what ifs

Report
PinkPlantCase · 27/01/2021 11:47

@curiouscat1987 I’ve been using coconut oil like what you’d buy to cook with. I’m a bit woo though about what I rub into my skin. I figure if it’s good enough to eat it’s good enough to be rubbed on baby bump.

Been working well so far. I don’t know if it’ll prevent stretch marks but it make my skin feel comfortable.

@Sitchervice not sure if this is helpful, mine is coming up on Wednesday: whatever happens during the scan we will tackle then, until then, there is absolutely 0 that I can do that would be beneficial!

What happened at your 12 week that's making you worried?

Report
BlondePotter · 27/01/2021 11:55

@Sitchervice sometimes it's fear of the unknown so I like following people a week or two ahead of me so I know what to expect. And focus on the things you can control, you can't control the outcome of a scan but you can control your negative mindtalk around it. Try some pregnancy mindfulness maybe? X

It's pram (travel system) delivery today....and all thats shown up is the parasol! 😱 erm, where are the other 8 pieces? A little bit anxious now haha!

I totally understand your worries with your 20 weeks scan, I was the same. Had to keep reminding myself that it's completely normal to feel worried.
As soon as I saw baby on the screen, I instantly felt lighter.
Hope it all goes well for you, please try not to torment yourself. X

@Nesski I had a call back to say I was high risk of Edwards and Patau's syndrome so I had to go through all that. I think @BlondePotter is right and it's fear of un known more than anything.

Good to hear what others are doing for maternity leave. I'm due 5th June and planning on starting maternity leave then but taking holiday from the 1st and also using a couple days holiday to only work 4 days the last weeks in May. Keep wondering if I'm leaving it too late and will struggle with the last few weeks though.
I'm taking 9 months and feel I would rather spend more time with the baby than beforehand waiting.

Re-joining this thread. Due date 28th June. Am 18 weeks this week and spend all my time trying to feel movements! Glad to see others didn't feel anything until 20/22 weeks. It also doesn't help that I have an anterior placenta. 🙄

AlRRRR · 27/01/2021 15:50

@reservoircats I’m 19 weeks tomorrow and try to find movements too 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Sometimes I think so, I felt it at 14 and 17 and nothing for 2 weeks

Hope everyone’s scans have gone well.

My maternity leave chat with work left me feeling a bit down. Because I don’t want a year off the boss thought I wasn’t looking forward to having a baby Confused I really had to justify my plans for him to believe that it was what I actually wanted. It was really strange.

For context I’m an architect in my mid 20s, I became fully qualified whilst working for the practice last year. I’ve worked so bloody hard to get where I am and though the hours are long I do love my job, I don’t want to take my foot off the career gas just yet. Working hard when baby is little will help me have more flexibility when they’re school age. I’m also the main earner in my house.

I’m so excited to be a mum and meet baby. I just don’t see the career and excited to be a mum points as mutually exclusive.

@PinkPlantCase might just be your boss projecting his experiences onto you. My boss said 'so you do you know how much you'll want to take... 6 months? 9?'
And he was surprised when I said a year, so everyone is different!
They're definitely 2 mutually exclusive things 💛

Report
lucieloos · 28/01/2021 08:40

@PinkPlantCase you really don't need to justify your desire for this baby to your boss! It's really none of his business!

Report
Nesski · 28/01/2021 09:10

@Sitchervice oh yes I remember now! It must be really difficult, try and find some other things to keep you occupied up until the run up!

Report
theworks · 28/01/2021 10:11

@PinkPlantCase I was in a similar position to you when I had my first. Boss will just be surprised as so many will take a year or close to it. Best plan is to say I think I want to take (say) 6 months off after baby is born but would like to be flexible and catch up around 3/4 months to decide if I can come back sooner or extend it a bit? I think as long as you give 8 weeks notice you can and should take whatever time you want and is right for you.

Hi everyone, I lost the thread for a while! It’s nice to check in. Although reading when you’re all starting maternity is making me feel very lazy - I was planning to start 2 weeks before due date but also take 2 weeks holiday before that! It’s my first and I’m thinking it’ll be the last bit of peace I’ll get to potter around for a very long time.
I’ve got my 20 week scan on Wednesday, so nervous but I think if it goes well I can get excited properly and buy some bits.

I don’t know if I’m going mad - I really think I’ve felt bubbles for a few weeks, and now I think I can feel proper swooshing/ even some kicks. But I have an active tummy so maybe it’s that. My husband even felt it the other day and it was very low down! I’ve got an anterior placenta (or I did have at 16 weeks) so feel like it’s too early..

LBee2020 · 28/01/2021 10:33

@Bs93 I also have my 20 week scan on Wednesday. I cant wait! If it goes well I feel like I can really start to get excited and start making some plans. I am terrified though but happy that my other half will be able to come as hes not seen or heard baby yet.

I also think I've felt movement for the last 2/3 weeks. Definitely bubbly/ fluttering type feelings, although I too have a very gurgly stomach but I'm pretty sure it's different!

20 week scan went well. I'm happy I saw my little boy again. Even if he was trying to hide his face with his hands. XD

~No pictures today please!~

Worried for nothing but still he's my babe

So glad your scan went well! It’s such a relief afterwards!

I’ve been feeling movement more and more the past few days, little one seems to enjoy having a little party each time after I eat. It’s reassuring to feel but also very odd 😂

Also in the 8th June due date club - there seems to be a fair few of us!

Really nice to hear everybody has been having their 20 week scans and seeing their baby again!

My 20 week scan is still 2 weeks a way and I'm starting to feel really anxious about it. Constantly waiting to feel baby and not sure what to look out for! My tummy is growling a lot more than usual and I'm definitely not hungry, could this be baby? It might not be but I'm a FTM so unsure

We also found out we were expecting a little boy last week and managed to listen to his heart beat again at my 16 week midwife appointment too! Was (17+3 at the time)

Hope everyone is feeling ok!
