@Nesski check with your hospital. At ours visiting hours are 8am-8pm so no overnight help from partner at all. They are allowed in to delivery so don't get kicked out at 8pm if you're about to give birth though 😆

@Nesski. The visiting hours at mine on the post natal ward is 1 hour in the middle of the day at the moment. I am hoping I am in and out or things change dramatically lol

@Nesski I gave birth in a midwife led birth unit, we had a private room from
entry to exit and they put a little
bed in the room for my partner as she was born at 7:30pm and I chose to stay overnight as we were the only one’s in there :) We had no other visitors as it wasn’t necessary as we went home by afternoon the next day :)!

The birth centre I’ve chosen this time has a double bed in and I’m going to ask it he’s allowed to stay again (maybe different with Covid?)

@Penny2020 I'm finishing up the start of May, I am due 14th of June but have a lot of stuff to do in our house so need to focus on that and can only imagine how tired I will be by then !

@nesski same here, can't wait to just get ready for baby and not have to deal with work and hopefully get to the beach and just be as chilled as I can be 🤣🙌

I'm planning on finishing at 38 weeks. I go into work 3 days a week at the hospital where I'm on my feet all day - but delivery suite is opposite my ward... so I'm in the right place! I work from Home 2 days a week. But am I mad? I'm now 31+3 I'm uncomfortable, tired and my pelvis hurts by the end of the day. Should I bring it forward now? What's the done thing? I worry if I'm just at home I'll start stressing.

@Fishingforhappiness I decided to bring mine forward when I re-read the maternity leave letter form HR and it said I had to give them 28 days notice if I wanted to change my finish date (unless baby were to come really early or I was ill).

But reading the small print spurred me on to make a decision Grin

Nesski · 12/04/2021 20:44

@Fishingforhappiness there is no right or wrong or the 'done thing'. If you can afford it, consider finishing a week earlier to put your feet up and appreciate the time to yourself. Baby can come at any point, all I would probably say is that if I were to work until 38 weeks, only do it if you are organised it and you've literally got everything so that all you will do is nest. I just cannot even imagine suffering through summer heatwave like last year whilst the size of a whale and then having to work!!

@BlondePotter @airrrr @TerryRose @Scarftown visit hours are 2 in the middle of the day, I'm just asking because hopefully baby will arrive after the 21st June and bloody praying the hospital will go back to how it was pre-covid. Partners are allowed to go to all appointments now, so long they prove a negative in the lateral flow test signed off by pharmacist/GP (too much faff IMO given the stage of pregnancy we are all in) and for those coming in as a birthing partner, they do the test when arriving in hospital! I will ask hospital during my 36 week scan!

I'm taking maternity leave from 39 weeks but finish working at the end of next week (will be 33+2) as I'm taking all my holiday for the coming year before I start.

I know I will need time to chill before baby comes and if I don't take my holiday before I go ill lose it, so may as well!

Report
Nesski · 12/04/2021 20:55

Sorry just realised might have misinterpreted, mine is all holiday from 28th May, my mat leave doesn't officially start until 21st June, so the same as @Edelweiss2020 in a way!

Humpty11 · 12/04/2021 21:34

The same as @Edelweiss2020 with annual leave so I finished work a couple of weeks ago (at 30 weeks) to make sure I don’t lose my leave and then start mat leave at 38 weeks. I’m definitely enjoying not having to go into work!

Anyone else getting pain in their rib cage when sitting down? I know it's completely normal but so uncomfortable

Report
Scarftown · 13/04/2021 14:52

I have been having Rib pain for weeks but I am taking that over the pelvic pain I know some of you have been having.

Report
northerngal20 · 13/04/2021 15:20

yeah i had awful rib pain from around 20 weeks until the end of the 2nd trimester, but it seems to have died back a bit now and i just have hip pain. i think it might have been my ribs stretching, and i guess now they've expanded the pain has eased. i'm sure/concerned it will come back at some point though!

Report
BlondePotter · 13/04/2021 15:31

Yes rib pain comes and goes for me, feels like a stitch where I have to breathe really shallow. Think it's just the rib cage expanding, or occasionally it's baby up in there! Annoying when it happens isn't it because I'm breathless enough without that!

MimiDaisy11 · 13/04/2021 15:38

I get rib pain but it just tends to be my right rib for some reason.

Baby likes to hang out under my rib.
My main problem is trapped wind in my chest that I can't seem to shift. I end up retching because it gets so bad 😕

I'm not getting any rib pain but all of a sudden I feel really tight in my chest and getting out of breath even talking! Think she must be pushing up on my lungs today!

@Emmie12 same, I sometimes have to huff and puff my way through meetings, takes a lot of effort to present PowerPoint deck.... And yes, palpitations aswell!

Yes this is exactly what happened to me - finished up a meeting and had to have a lie down as felt like i had been exercising! Might have to start scheduling in some naps between team calls!

I haven't overly had rib pains 🤔 just a squished up feeling. Last night and today my bump has really dropped a lot lower.... Its uncomfortable to sit down i feel like I'm sitting on the baby!! 🙈😂 Im at the point where i need to pee again the minute i stand up from the toilet! In my last pregnancy my bump was super high until the day before i went, i felt like i couldn't breathe. Funny how they are so different.

So I've been talking to my work colleagues about helping out just before my mat leave to do some admin work in the office. I have one older male colleague who is terrified that I'll go into labour in the office 🤣 I'll be 35/36 weeks in my last week. Yes it's a risk but it be no different than if it wasn't covid rules.

@Sitchervice you should do the water bottle trick with him, please make sure you get it on camera Grin
