Any other veggies on here ? I've been told my
Iron is low 10.9g, I'm struggling as have so many food aversions, just wondering what would be a good meal with iron thanks

AlRRRR · 04/02/2021 14:56

@TerryRose Hey! I’m a veggie, almost vegan through both of my pregnancies :)

In my last, by 32 weeks, iron got to 9.5, so they put me on Iron tabs, but this time it’s 13, and main difference is I’m not vomiting as I did previously!

I always start my day with a green veg smoothie, kale, spinach, Lemon, celery, cucumber, flaxseed/ chia, cocao powder alongside 3 fruit. I also take 2 (veggie) omega 3 supplemtns, and 1 Vit D 4000 strengh to help the Iron absorption :) Seems to be working so far, in the day I eat Brocoli, carrots, peas, tofu, etc

What do you like to eat? X

SweatpantsTime · 04/02/2021 16:06

@Penny2020 thank you very much! My LO has a tendency to kick when I’m doing something it doesn’t like, or in a funny position, it’s so strange!

hayjt24 · 04/02/2021 18:03

Hi all, hope everyone is well. Im 19 weeks and think I've been feeling movement the last week but not sure, just wanted to ask where you feel movement? I'm feeling really gentle tapping really low down, at the bottom/under my bump.. Will this be baby do you think?

Lovethatjourneyforme · 04/02/2021 18:06

@TerryRose also veggie 🙋🏼‍♀️ I've not had any issues with my iron so far so not had to think about it too much. I do eat quite a bit of spinach, just chuck it in whatever I'm cooking like chilli, pasta, curries etc. And I was snacking on almonds, though haven't much recently. Think you can tailor it to it what you like to eat really, there's lots of good ways to get iron just depends on your habits

Lovethatjourneyforme · 04/02/2021 18:08

Not sure where those 2nd and 3rd emojis sprung from haha, wasn't me Confused

SweatpantsTime · 04/02/2021 18:49

@hayjt24 yes it sounds like it. You’re probably also feeling “bubbles”, and that’s the baby as well. The little kicks will be in different places depending on the baby’s position, and will get stronger every day. I feel like there are times when it gets really active - supposedly baby should move more after you had a snack but I’m not sure I get that.

hayjt24 · 04/02/2021 18:57

@SweatpantsTime thank you! Yes definitely a 'bubbles' feeling, really difficult to explain the feeling isnt it - he seems to move more straight after breakfast and evenings too so that would make sense. Thank you

Penny2020 · 04/02/2021 21:11

@hayjt24 I agree, sounds like baby to me. Mine also started really low, more like tugging or rippling for me. Same as you I couldn’t quite tell but after a few weeks it gets stronger and stronger and now she won’t stop wriggling!
Mine was mainly when I was in bed but I assume that’s because I was still and focused on it.

hayjt24 · 04/02/2021 22:11

@Penny2020 ah, thats good to hear! I was unsure as he felt so low down. Yes feels like a gentle prod/tapping to me so must be him! How lovely, I bet its so nice feeling her move more and more, how many weeks are you? can't wait to feel him more! 😊

Fishingforhappiness · 05/02/2021 05:51

@TerryRose I have HG and veggie. So have been worried about my iron too. Vitamin C aids iron absorption and calcium reduces it. Ive been having a glass of OJ alongside my evening meal and handfuls of dry cereal thats fortified with iron and a clementine to snack. Nuts, tofu and lots of beans and lentils have kept mine up.

On another note this baby is my first and im hoping for some advice. My mother announces on the phone last night that with the vaccine roll out hopefully she will be able to vist us in hospital post birth after all! My mum and i have a tricky relationship. Im very low key and she is loud and OTT- theres already a nursery at her house and has bought so much stuff for her and its all pink, despite requesting more gender neutral clothing. I was hoping to rest at home for a few days before visitors and let DH baby and I bond... not this. This is first grandchild and she is excited. Am i being mean? If not how would i approach this?

AlRRRR · 05/02/2021 07:10

@Fishingforhappiness On the visiting front, with my first, i banned all visitors for a week to close family and 2-3 weeks for extended and friends as I wanted to get the hang of breastfeeding and just bond etc, I simply just said no but understand some people may not be able to do this ! :)

AlRRRR · 05/02/2021 07:11

Has anyone got a stuffy nose and ears? I’ve been getting it every morning for weeks now, if I sleep on my left my ear blocks but as soon as I stand up, it bangs and unblocks haha!

AlRRRR · 05/02/2021 07:12

Also has 20 wk yday and it’s a girl ,

lucieloos · 05/02/2021 08:16

@Fishingforhappiness even with the vaccine I'm not sure if visitors will be allowed by then.

Scarftown · 05/02/2021 08:34

@Fishingforhappiness. Even with the vaccine I’m not sure hospital will be allowing a range of visitors.

I was going to ban visitors for the first week but I have seen how excited my mum and in laws have been for other grandkids and I think if lockdown rules allow I will just get them all done in the first few days then hide away. Mine aren’t OTT well the can be and they have already started with some competitiveness. But I’m ignoring it the best I can.

If you really don’t want her over I’m sure the covid rules can help with excuses nearer the time.

PinkPlantCase · 05/02/2021 08:45

If my mum wants to come and bring us food/do some washing in the first few weeks whilst also having a quick cuddle I will be perfectly okay with that Grin she’s quite a practical sort.

Snally82 · 05/02/2021 08:46

@AIRRRR congrats on a little girl!

Re stuffy nose - yep! For so many weeks now!!! Not ears though.

Sitchervice · 05/02/2021 08:46

@Scarftown I'm hoping lockdown will be lifted enough by the time June comes round. My mum has our buggy...

Sitchervice · 05/02/2021 08:48

@hayjt24 no movement here at all I'm 21 weeks.

Scarftown · 05/02/2021 09:14

@Sitchervice. I’m hoping they are lifted enough that my mum and my sister can come round but with still some restrictions that all the in laws can’t come at once or turn up unannounced. (His family are much bigger but closer) and live in each other’s pockets in normal times.

Fishingforhappiness · 05/02/2021 19:37

Thanks all. I know she will be upset if i sah no. But my husband is away alot and i want time for the 3 of us to bond and establish breast feeding and to keep things calm. Her presence and loudness, flapping arms and this being "the forth baby she couldnt have" worries me and will send my BP sky high! Shes already said my dad (very low key like me) will have to pull her off the baby to go home. How she wants to move in for a Few weeks to help. Shes also bought a crib for her house and is turning my old room into a nursery. I just think she going to fly in take over etc, she will think shes mary poppins and being wonderful. But i think she will overwhelm me... any advice welcome

Nesski · 05/02/2021 22:21

@Fishingforhappiness all I would say is to be upfront and tell her exactly how you feel and that she will be allowed to come over when you are ready - you must invite her, plus she can still give you and the baby covid. Tell her she is going OTT and it's overwhelming you, so tell her to calm her horses!!!

TerryRose · 05/02/2021 23:19

@AlRRRR yup stuffy nose more so than ears but it's all common

TerryRose · 05/02/2021 23:22

@Fishingforhappiness @Lovethatjourneyforme @AlRRRR thanks for the advice re iron intake. I'm still struggling with food aversions so my diet has been very much the same for weeks now and I reckon that's what has done it also I'm eating more dairy and had started drinking tea which are both thinks that can affect iron, the spinach, smoothies and dry cereal sounds like something I can do so hopefully I can get it back up thanks again
