As the other thread was about to be full, I thought it made sense to make part 2!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
IamC · 24/11/2020 20:16

Got my GTT results today. I'm positive 😩

Anyone else part of the finger pricking club?

Safxxx · 24/11/2020 21:12

@IamC oh no...sorry to hear that. I've got my test next Monday 🙄
Did you have any symptoms?

IamC · 24/11/2020 21:21

@Safxxx no symptoms that I would have noticed, but about two weeks ago they picked up sugars in my urine so it was suspected then.

Hoping it's the diet controlled kind rather than the medication controlled kind. Hopefully after a bit of testing they'll know.

Hope your test goes well.

Safxxx · 24/11/2020 21:38

@IamC goodluck hope it is the diet control one....🤞
Hope I don't be positive...as I've got a very sweet tooth lol

Muriel84 · 25/11/2020 11:50

@Safxxx aw that makes me feel better, it’s not just me moaning and groaning each time I have to get up! Worried I might get stuck in the bath at some point cos the stupid tub doesn’t have handles.

I’m doing pretty well with buying essentials. Got a few more things in Black Friday deals. So handy being lent some bits by family. Saves all the procrastinating. Still debating which bed side crib to get.

@IamC soz to hear your GTT was raised. Do they need to do any more tests before they diagnose? I did the two hour fasting one in July with three blood tests, then had to do another one last Friday which was just non-fasting with glucose drink then bloods an hour after. Mine were ok fortunately. So hard to control what you’re eating when you’re pregnant, I’ve put on a shed ton of weight tho I was low bmi at 12 week scan so I put a lot of effort in! X x x

BattenburgBerry · 25/11/2020 12:18

No one has mentioned this glucose test to me, does everyone get one? I’m seeing the midwife tomorrow for 28 week appt.
And how much weight should I have gained by now, I’ve put on just over a stone so far but it’s increasing rapidly now!

And @Muriel84 I got stuck in the bath the other night, had to shout my husband to haul me out! I was so worried that I would fall over, it’s not worth the risk. So now he’s on duty each time i fancy a bath!

Muriel84 · 25/11/2020 13:00

@BattenburgBerry oh no! I worry about slipping too so only have a bath if my partner is here. Which tbf is most the time... I love being in the bath tho, it’s so soothing for all my aches and pains. And nice to have some bump time.

Last time I weighed myself which was 2 weeks ago I’d put on about 10kg. Which is way over a stone! 😬 I’m usually on my feet all day at work so working from home must be making a big difference. As well as stuffing my face all day long. X x x

Safxxx · 25/11/2020 13:40

@BattenburgBerry you will only get a GTT if your at risk.
My both parents got diabetes so I'm offered it. Xx

babydust2412 · 25/11/2020 14:09

@BattenburgBerry I also haven't been offered one and don't need one thankfully so I assume you don't either xx
I've gained about a stone and a half so far and am 30 weeks today x

Muriel84 · 25/11/2020 14:16

@babydust2412 30 weeks! Aww it’s flying by. I’m 29 today.

My hospital give everyone diabetes tests at booking and 28 weeks I don’t have any risk factors. Might be because they’re doing some research? I don’t think many hospitals do.

Anyone doing hypnobirthing? Think we’re going to do the positive birth company one. X x x

babydust2412 · 25/11/2020 14:38

@Muriel84 it really is going by so fast, only 10 weeks to go now 😊 xx
I'm going to some form of hypnobirthing I think because I plan to do labour and birth completely drug free, so think I'll do all the breathing techniques and put a hypnobirthing playlist on with the lights dimmed xx

Muriel84 · 25/11/2020 14:44

@babydust2412 wow! Would you have gas and air? I’m aiming for no epidural but open to other options. Really don’t want to be induced. I’d rather have a section.

I think hypnobirthing might be useful for the early stages too. Might try a tens machine for home. Hospitals are being even more rigid about not going in until you’re 4cm dilated cos of Covid so might be at home a while as I’m 36 and ftm! My mum had slow first stages with all 4 of us. X x x

BattenburgBerry · 25/11/2020 14:55

I’m aiming for the easiest birth possible, really don’t want a c section but I’m definitely not ruling out an epidural. Spoke to my midwife about them, you can have mobile one which blocks the pain but you can still move around a bit.

babydust2412 · 25/11/2020 15:10

@Muriel84 I'm not too sure about gas and air as I know it can tend to make some women really nauseous which I really want to avoid in labour, also I really want a water birth, that's my goal so to do that I need to have no drugs xx

babydust2412 · 25/11/2020 15:11

@Muriel84 I definitely don't want to be induced either that's one thing Im going to try and avoid xx my mum had a 25 minute labour when she had me and I was born on an observation ward so I have no idea how fast or slow my baby will come 😂 xx

Muriel84 · 25/11/2020 15:47

@babydust2412 that is quick! I guess we won’t all be the same as our mums. It’s exciting but scary. I’ve found the positive birth book by milli hill really helpful in feeling less terrified and more excited!

You can have opiates and gas and air in the pool. There’s some lovely pool births on you tube. I’m also hoping for one cos I love the bath and being in water. Also it’s meant to be good for pain relief in itself. Even if I don’t give birth in one I want access to one in the build up. X x x

Safxxx · 25/11/2020 15:55

I had my 3 kids only using Gas & Air (not too much) just towards the end when things got unbearable.
My advice to you all is if you can manage it and allowed it, then eat & drink as you need all your energy for that moment.
I always put some snacks in my hospital bag and hubby buys some sandwich and coffee from canteen.
My first labour was around 18hrs 2nd was between 7-8hrs and 3rd was around 5-6hrs
Hoping this one is shorter 🤞

babydust2412 · 25/11/2020 16:54

@Muriel84 ahh I'll have to have a look at that then! Xx
Yes I've watched so many on YouTube it looks so lovely, I'm the same even if I don't give birth in the pool ifs like it in labour for pain relief because I also love the bath for back pain and things xx

babydust2412 · 25/11/2020 16:55

@Safxxx wow amazing! Yes definitely going to bring snacks and sports drinks to keep energy up xx

Muriel84 · 25/11/2020 17:09

@Safxxx that’s so good to hear! I really want to aim for just gas and air. 🤞🤞🤞

Definitely going to bring lots of snacks and drinks. Made a list earlier today for hospital bag. I think most hospitals aren’t letting partners go to the vending machine even cos of Covid?! I know mine is being so strict. Active labour only then turfed our one hour after birth. One hour a day visiting on postnates 😱 it’s made me look into other options and I spoke to the independent birthing unit in east London the other day. Someone mentioned it on here a while back. Going to go and look around if everything’s ok on my 34 week scan🤞🤞🤞x x x

DaffodilsAndDandelions · 25/11/2020 17:19

Just joining the thread. I'm due 6th Feb but will most likely end up with elcs last week of January. Was hoping for vbac but my university are insisting I take 6 weeks off if I have a section so it's going need careful timing as they will also only let me miss 4 weeks of theory. Grr.

Safxxx · 25/11/2020 17:35

@Muriel84 oh no...hope we got access to cafe or vending machine...as my hubby only survives hanging around in labour with food/drink breaks with me 🤣🤣🤣

@babydust2412 pool birth seems so appealing, not gonna lie..wanted that previously too...but put it off as felt shy lol (I mean is that even a thing? Shyness in full labour when all is exposed anyway) 🤣🤣 but what I did do Is, filled the bath up and used that inbetween the labour pangs.
But it can be annoying as they hook you up to listnen to the heartbeat....when your trying to relax in bath,(without being hooked) their knocking on the door to check again 😞 but apart from that just using the bath is helpful too...although not pain free....it still flipping hurts 😢
I remember getting in the bath....then contractions start and I'm like "help me out, help me out"to hubby...then that wave passes I would get in again...

Goodness it's a very difficult time ladies, I'm not a screamer or shout loud...nurses would praise how calm and quiet I was during labour... I'll be like a storm inside but calm outside lol
I would hear other women screaming out and shouting. Midwife would joke were used to all that...but suprised at the quiet ones now 🤣🤣

babydust2412 · 25/11/2020 17:43

@Safxxx definitely birth comes with a lot of pain whether in the water or not I can trust you on that one 100% xx I felt a little shy about it too so what I'm going to do is wear a bikini top the whole time so I'm at least a little covered up xx I think in the moment I'll be too focused on the pain to focus on dignity 😂😂😂

Safxxx · 25/11/2020 17:43

@DaffodilsAndDandelions Hi is all well in your pregnancy? Why are they recommending a C-section? Xx

Safxxx · 25/11/2020 17:52

@babydust2412 💯🤣🤣
