As the other thread was about to be full, I thought it made sense to make part 2!

I am procrastinating over my bag! I really need to do it as I’m 35 weeks today and my braxton hicks are lasting longer so it keeps worrying me I’m actually going into labour, can I have an idea of what people have put in their bags in case I miss anything

jbx10 · 09/01/2021 19:32

@Safxxx I managed to sort all her clothes and bedroom but didn't quite get to the hospital bag! Hopefully I'll get that done tomorrow. I have put everything to one side that she needs so shouldn't be too much trouble. Thank you. I have heard a few people say their growth scans were not accurate and everything else is looking good so trying not to let it worry me. They are just starting to talk about induction, but I'm just thinking about if it is really necessary if the scans aren't that accurate!

@Char41zam some of the things in my hospital bag;
towels
Flannels
Breast pads
Large pads
Very big knickers
2 x pjs
Over sized t shirt
Disposable knickers
Going home outfit
Nipple cream
Usual toiletries - I packed all my faves as a treat!
Eye mask & ear plugs in case I'm being induced
Snacks (plenty of treats in there too!)
Lucazades
Slippers
Fan
Cooling spray
Camera

Think that's most of it! Xx

Char41zam · 09/01/2021 19:51

Thank you @jbx10! I have all of that on my list but the eye mask is a good one I didn’t think of, what kind of snacks are you thinking of taking?

jbx10 · 09/01/2021 20:00

@Char41zam no probs! So far I've got some sugary snacks so different packs of sweets. Thought I might need those to keep my bloods up! Then some cereal bars & crisps. Not sure what else to pack. What are you thinking? Xx

Safxxx · 09/01/2021 20:19

@jbx10 Eye mask and ear plugs are a good idea 👍🏼 when i had to stay a week i was going mad at the ward, while my baby was settled the rest were setting off crying one after another...i begged the nurses to give me my own room or let me go home lol after 3-4 days i was given my own room and i could finally get some sleep.

@Char41zam i'm yet to get my snacks/drinks...but some cereal bars, individually wrapped petit pain au chocolat(i rather call them chocolate croissants lol) all supermakets have them i love the ones from Aldi.
Pringles and some Medjoul dates (my fav as good for energy and yummy) some soft drinks and lucozade.
Now it depends on what happens on the day, if we get a chance i'll either make some sandwiches or buy some and get some bananas and grapes as can't just stay on snacks (my hubby will go mad lol)

Char41zam · 09/01/2021 22:39

Thanks ladies I will have to be careful with the sugars for my diabetes so will lay off lots of sweeties, pain au chocolate are a good idea and cereal bars will maybe take some crisps and fruit etc! Can’t believe it’s so close eeeeek

Muriel84 · 09/01/2021 23:14

@Safxxx thanks I will definitely pack it tomorrow! Well as much as I can. I’ve been collecting bits for a while so hopefully have most things. It’s difficult to pack clothes cos I barely have anything that fits and I’m wearing what does!

Have started collecting snacks too. Will head to M&S tomorrow to get some of my faves too.

I was going to take a couple of those pre made up formula bottles just in case (hoping to breast feed). Do you pour them into a bottle? Apologies if that’s a really dumb question! Just wondering whether to pack a bottle as well.

@jbx10 thanks for posting list! Eye mask is a good idea. What is cooling spray? For your bits? Is music for labour?

I’ve bought an extra long phone charger too. Wondering whether to take my iPad. It’s so hard not knowing how long we’ll be in. I’m wondering whether to pack a book!

I think I will end up with a cabin sized case for me, changing back pack for babs, my dressing gown separate and a bag of food. Might try and take a cool bag... cold drinks would be nice in labour?? X x x

Muriel84 · 09/01/2021 23:18

@Safxxx I’m planning on eating dates if the baby ever turns! There’s evidence that they reduce the need for intervention in labour. And good for getting bowels moving! X x x

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 00:33

@Muriel84 yes the pre made formula will need to be poured into bottles. Don't use up all just start with a ounce with each feed or as needed, if you pour it all in bottle will be wasted as they drink very little like half a ounce or so.
The cool spray is to spray around your face or body as can get quite sweaty around forehead, some use wet flannels , i have'nt used any in previous labour.
Dates are good for pregnancy and as a healthy snack they contain lots of nutrients and are a good source of fibre too...i've been eating it here and there, but since last week nearly every day ì had about 2 handfuls of dates and a raisin mix that included cranberries too, they actually helped with my constipation. (But the dreadful piles are still there)
In previous pregnancies i have always upped on eating Nuts/dates/fruit in the last month or so. Xx

babydust2412 · 10/01/2021 13:44

My hospital bag is all packed now finally 😂 still stressing over if I've forgotten something 😂 xx
Baby has dropped I think, bump is very very low today so he's definitely showing us he's going to come some time soon x

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 15:15

@babydust2412 thats good your all prepared...seems your very close now. I'm sure your due date is the earliest of us all? Do you still plan on water birth? Xx

Muriel84 · 10/01/2021 15:25

@Safxxx thank you that’s really helpful.

I’ve packed the baby’s bag and I think I have everything in there. My bag I’ve done as much as I can. Still need to pick up a few bits and waiting for bits to arrive. Need to do snack bag too. It’s hard cos I can’t pack stuff I’m using.

@babydust2412 that’s very exciting! Might sound like another silly question but are you packing bikini bottoms? My friend said the midwife suggested she cover up during the early stages (sure I will not be that bothered...).

So hard packing for a water birth and a c-section at the same time! X x x

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 15:38

@Muriel84 thats good, i'd say if your taking any items your still using then leave them till last minute...
I might opt for water birth due to pelvic pain as midwife suggested will be better option...not sure on bikini but will take some cover up for top and bottom lol
But knowing me i'll end up not going for it...well lets see what happens its between water birth or normal on the bed lol

babydust2412 · 10/01/2021 15:54

@Safxxx yes I'm due on the 3rd Feb but I'm not convinced he will stay in that long 😂 xx and yes I still plan on a water birth x
@Muriel84 I have packed bikini bottoms just in case I do want to be more covered up during early stages xx

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 16:26

@babydust2412 if hes dropped that low then yeah i also think he will come before due date 💜 hopefully you get your wish on water birth... when they drop down can be very uncomfortable for the back and pelvis areas...how are you doing?
I'm already uncomfortable i hope mine don't drop down till last stage. Xxx

Muriel84 · 10/01/2021 16:32

@babydust2412 @Safxxx water birth would be the dream for me. I’ve packed a bikini top and a thin v long black T-shirt. Just inspected all my body bikini bottoms and I will have to buy some new ones cos none of them are going to fit!

Just panic bought some loose clothing on H&M for after the birth. X x x

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 16:59

@Muriel84 Awe i hope you get your wish of water birth ❤
Anything natural will heal quicker, C- sections can take a while to recover.
Good idea for new clothes after birth as it can take some time to go back to shape...unless your the lucky ones lol

babydust2412 · 10/01/2021 17:08

@Safxxx thank you I hope I get to have my water birth too 💕 I'm doing okay, getting a lot of pelvic pressure and just general pressure down below now, and some lower back pain, so not very comfortable but just excited to meet him now 💙 xx how are you??

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 18:48

@babydust2412 yes thats to be expected when baby is engaged down.... but hopefully not long left now b4 you meet him❤
I have my good/bad days but getting by Xxx

jbx10 · 10/01/2021 19:03

@Muriel84 I've packed a cabin sized bag. I think I'll definitely pack the iPad if I'm getting induced just never know he long we'll be in there! A cool bag is a good idea!

I haven't got round to doing baby's bag this weekend but might try and do a little bit each day this week. Everything just feeling like a huge task at the moment. Had a hormonal day today feeling sorry for myself need to try snap out of it tomorrow. Xxx

jbx10 · 10/01/2021 19:06

@babydust2412 @Muriel84 hope you both get your water births. Think I may go for a water birth if that's possible since I feel as though I've lived in the bath this last few weeks I think I'd find it quite calming.

I ordered some bikini tops but had to send them all back - boobs seem to have grown more than I thought 😂 going to have to order some much bigger ones. Then like you @Muriel84 I've got a big oversized t shirt. I don't think I'll bother with bikini bottoms. I'm hoping to wait as long as I can to get into the pool xxx

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 19:47

@jbx10 i've had a few of them hormonal downs...don't worry it will pass...just focus on other things and keep yourself distracted. Stay strong ❤
After hearing you guys talk about water births...i went upstairs to see what i can find incase i have one too...so i found a long thin black t-shirt which covers my bottom too, so i've put that in suitcase...i won't bother with bikini bottoms as i will only use the water in last stages of labour.

jbx10 · 10/01/2021 20:26

@Safxxx sorry you've been feeling similar, it's awful isn't it. But your right - last few weeks we need to keep strong & focused ❤️ xxx

Char41zam · 10/01/2021 20:57

Must be a day for it, I’ve been feeling all over the place today

Safxxx · 10/01/2021 21:08

@Char41zam atleast we can all relate..this covid situation is not helping.
But lets stay focused and stay strong ❤
