As the other thread was about to be full, I thought it made sense to make part 2!

I bought pampers newborn nappies, bought them on offers so will last abit, previously i used them in the first few months and then switched to supermaket own brands. Pampers did leak but i found a hack, instead of strapping the sticky tape across, i would stick it diagnol down, so it would not leak thru the sides.
But other brands are much cheaper and good quality, so i will be buying them later on.
As for bottles, i've always used Avent and also Avent soothers. (They last longer and don't leak) bought on offer.
Also supermaket own brand sensitive wipes are good and better value.
I've also bought own brands of bath times (superdrug range) as had good offers last month...will get supermaket own range later on as needed.
I'm not a sucker for big brands, as over time it can be quite expensive, other brands are just as good and worth it in the long run.
So be open minded. Xxx

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 12:12

@OnNaturesCourse thats good things are settling. Xxx

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 12:25

@Bambino87 i don't get nausea but do get heartburn, unfortunately its that stage where its inevitable. Eat/drink small and regular, try some cold milk and some yogurt. No magic cures till these little angels are in our arms. So need to bear it all till then. Xxx

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 12:26

@Muriel84 Hey hows things? Any luck finding a new place to live? Xxx

jbx10 · 28/12/2020 12:57

@Safxxx great thank you for your tips. I ordered a few bits this morning whilst I couldn't sleep so hopefully they'll keep me going for the first few weeks.

@OnNaturesCourse glad your bloods have settled back down!

I'm soo glad to be off work this week going to have a totally chilled pamper day today making the most of these last few weeks of peace & quiet xxx

Muriel84 · 28/12/2020 13:15

Happy Christmas everybody, hope everyone had a lovely day.

@Bambino87 I’m 33+5 and first trimester symptoms are back for sure. Awful heartburn, particularly bad Christmas Day 🙄 and metallic taste in my mouth. Constant cold symptoms too. Slept for hours yesterday and last night. Feeling a bit better today but no motivation to do anything. Luckily not too nauseous, but trying to nibble to get rid of horrible taste but then feeling full and uncomfortable. Stupidly ordered a curry last night!

Does anyone who’s had a baby know how long afterwards the constipation goes away? Just trying to work out if I have enough movicol to get me through...

Planning on packing hospital bag later this week. I have a 34 week scan on Wednesday to check placenta, growth and position. Placenta was still low at 23 weeks and baby was either transverse or breech at 32 week midwife. X x x

Muriel84 · 28/12/2020 13:24

@Safxxx I’m good thanks. We’re waiting for some stuff to progress with the solicitors (first time buyer so fairly clueless) then hoping we might get a rough idea of the date for moving. But it’s looking like it’ll be around the due date! Giving birth and moving house at the height of a pandemic isn’t ideal! Not that stressed about it though, it is what it. My parents live 90 miles away also in tier 4 and we’re meant to be helping lots with move etc but not sure how that’s going to happen now. How are you and your kids doing? They must be getting very excited.

@jbx10 that’s a good attitude to have! I have the week off too but keep feeling bad for not doing stuff. Have baby clothes in bags in the bedroom I need to sort out but nowhere to put them as currently in one bed flat. Need to stop feeling bad for not doing much and enjoy the time to relax! X x x

jbx10 · 28/12/2020 13:41

@Muriel84 glad you've found somewhere & it's just a matter of waiting for the solicitors to finalise. If your going to be packing to move I wouldn't worry too much about sorting your baby clothes out maybe just get them washed so they're ready to use just in case but don't stress yourself about it!

My best friend got me my hospital bag as my baby gift - she's a midwife too so packed lots of little things I would never have thought about! But I'm going to wait to wait to sort out all baby's clothes when I finish work. I've made a flower wall I need to get finished this week for her room but I am well and truly taking this time to relax and enjoy some self care. Don't feel guilty- we bloody deserve it!! Xxx

Char41zam · 28/12/2020 13:53

@Bambino87 no but I have severe exhaustion I can’t stop napping, I think because I’m anaemic too but been on iron for a few weeks now so thought it would be better but I guess it’s just tiring at this stage anyway

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 14:39

@jbx10 i would love to have a pamper day, got all what i need but no energy lol
Bought lovely bathtime products and bath bombs, got face masks, feet masks etc..i wanted to pedicure my feet first, but i can hardly reach them 🤣🤣 its hard even putting on my trousers and socks without feeling uncomfortable.
Nevertheless will persevere with it as its much needed, hubby has offered to do my feet, bless him, rest i just need to make effort and get on with it. Enjoy your Xxx

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 15:01

@Muriel84 Awe i guess these things can't be helped, we had to redo our bedroom from scratch, my hubby did everything apart from plastering. Took over 2mths as he was working too. But finaly completed last wk and were settled in.
I've washed and ironed all of babies clothes/bedding, and neatly folded in hes own wardrobe.
Got all essentials at hand, just need to pick and choose what i'm going to take to hospital, so thats next on list packing a small trolley suitcase.
Kids are excited, can't wait to have him here.
About the constipation everyones different, but things should settle and get back to normal within a couple of weeks, usually i would get piles after birth, this time i've suffered it during. I'm so bad with taking lactose i got enough satchets left. I was told to take it regularly as thats why my piles are not easing off.
Luckily my pelvic pain has eased off. I do love a curry myself, but regret it afterwards lol. For the metallic taste luckily mines gone now, i used to take milk and ice cream for it that helped ease it off along with heartburn. Hope your scan goes well and placenta is where it should be. Xxx

wannabe123 · 28/12/2020 18:02

I am planning on starting my hospital bag soon but I feel clueless as to what to actually pack!
Also, what have people bought in terms of baby creams (nappy creams etc)?

OnNaturesCourse · 28/12/2020 18:28

@wannabe123 we use Metanium rash and barrier creams so baby will get the same.

I can't remember what I had in my bag last time but I do know it was too much haha.

So far my list is
Baby Bag:
3 x newborn - vests, baby grows, mitts, hats etc
3 x 0-3 - vests, baby grows, mitts, hats etc
Going home suit/coat and blanket
Pre made bottles/formula
All the muslin squares I can pack lol.

My bag :
1 box - maternity towels
Shower gel and shampoo etc (honestly post birth shower is the best thing ever)
Pyjamas
2 packs - M&S high rise black pants (size 12 and 14 for pre and post birth)
Comfy jogging tracksuit for going home / walking the ward in labour. (I will take two jogging trousers in case of leakage/waters etc)
Warm socks/towel slippers (ones that are disposable just in case)
Hair ties and brush
Charger for phone
Sports/drinks bottle
Nipple pads
Comfy sports bra / bra
Birth outfit (for me a sports bra and old ladies boxer shorts worked plus a baggy top/nightie)

Partners bag
All the food and juice lol
2 x boxers
Shorts (he gets too hot and I don't fancy him passing out and stealing my glory lol)
Clean t-shirt
Phone charger

OnNaturesCourse · 28/12/2020 18:29

Oh.. And obviously nappies and cream for buba lol

wannabe123 · 28/12/2020 19:42

@OnNaturesCourse thanks! Just made a start on packing and made a list of things I still need to buy.

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 19:44

@wannabe123 i will be packing mostly what @OnNaturesCourse has mentioned, just to add i will be taking clean sterilized bottles and soother too, also some cotton wool, nappy sacks, tissues (for me and baby, they seem to spit out alot of milk)
I will also take alittle baby wash bottle & towel incase i stay more then a day/night so i can give him a bath there.

Sudocream/ Bepathen/vaseline are all good as barrier creams. Xxx

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 19:50

@OnNaturesCourse do you live far from hospital? My hubby has never packed a bag for himself. Xx

wannabe123 · 28/12/2020 19:58

Brill! Thanks @Safxxx! I'm going to make sure my husband has lots of snacks so that he doesn't need to leave for food. The hospital cafe is closed and I think with covid, partners can't leave the hospital/ward.

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 20:11

@wannabe123 oh yes i forgot the hospital cafes will be shut, Men ehh 🙄 food/snacks/drinks are the only things that get them going thru our labour 🤣
Don't forget to take something for yourself too, as we need all the energy during labour. Xxx

wannabe123 · 28/12/2020 20:23

@Safxxx definitely won't forget food for me haha!

OnNaturesCourse · 28/12/2020 21:24

We are about 45 minutes away, without traffic. With traffic it can be about 2 hours give or take.

We lived closer when I had my first but I over packed as a first timer lol but glad I did as I was in near enough a week and he didn't leave my side once (had a side room, my anxiety was through the roof and hospital kindly let him stay with me - ie I threatened to discharge myself otherwise 😳)

Stef92 · 28/12/2020 21:51

I got bits for my hospital bag for Christmas, like a nightie (which I didn't previously own) etc so I've started putting it together.

I have my delayed 31 week appointment tomorrow, hoping that baby is now head down as we've suspected he's been that way the last week or so but he never behaves at appointments lol

Safxxx · 28/12/2020 22:17

@OnNaturesCourse oh ok, Awe bless him for not leaving your side ❤

@Stef92 goodluck for tmro, although at my 31wk check up with midwife the baby was positioned diagnol, she was'nt concerned said plenty of time to engage hes head yet. Xxx

OnNaturesCourse · 28/12/2020 22:58

I don't think he had much choice, poor sod. I wasn't pleasant the night I got admitted, I was a bubbling hot headed mess 😳

I feel more prepared this time so hoping I don't freak out on him (and the doctors!) again!

Muriel84 · 29/12/2020 06:02

@Safxxx thanks for advice. I’ve given up with the piles, have accepted they’ll be there till baby comes out. Have tried every cream/suppository going and nothings helped. Just on twice a day movicol to keep things soft. I’m sure it’s not helping the rank taste in my mouth!

@jbx10 that’s really handy having a friend who’s a mw pack you a hospital bag. I got some bits for Christmas for mine too like a button up night shirt. We’ve been given a nappy changing bag filled with essentials and all the stuff for bathing which is really handy.

My mum has washed an ironed all the baby things that aren’t new. I’m not washing new things cos I’m terrible at ironing and will likely ruin them all. Think I’m going to sort the clothes into sizes today and then pack them away. I hope we move before baby arrives.

I’m not sure if the baby is trying to turn or just beat me up. Been awake for a couple of hours. Between hip pain, baby kicking the crap out of me, blocked nose and heartburn bed just isn’t very comfortable. Hard to side sleep when it’s fighting the mattress. X x x
