@scrambledeggy just to reassure you that not everyone here is anxiety free, full of positivity and being all grown up about their pregnancy! This is my 3rd, I'm sick at even the thought of that, panicking constantly about money, telling people, how we'll possibly cope, life in general. It's normal to be worried about any/all aspects of it, it's a stressful time!

ECoby · 11/11/2020 18:31

Hi all. Bit of an odd one and definitely not a moan... is anyone else's hair falling out? I'm shedding worse than my dog! I have really thick frizzy hair so won't miss it, but its like two palm fulls a day! - I'm taking pregnecare, and I dont think it's nutritional and I know hormones do odd things to hair, but I thought in pregnancy it was meant to get thicker?!

Firsttimeconcerns · 11/11/2020 18:38

Hello all,

I posted this as a thread but thought I'd add here too. I am due end of June and was wondering if anyone has experienced any spotting?

Last Thursday (6 1/2 weeks pregnant), I went to the toilet first thing and noticed blood on wiping. The evening before I'd had stabbing pains (I've read online they are called lightning bolts?) On Thursday morning there was not enough blood to appear on pants. This continued throughout the day but only on wiping. I called the midwife who arranged a scan at EPAU on the Friday. A heartbeat was detected but they saw from the scan a bleed under where the yolk sac was. They said they would measure the bleed again at my 12 week scan.

Last weekend, the spotting continued but became much lighter and stopped Sunday through to today. I had my first midwife appointment yesterday and I thought all had stopped.

However, I have noticed pink/brown spotting again today. I am so anxious that this is going to lead to a miscarriage and can't stop overthinking ny symptoms. In my head they seem to be reducing but not sure if I am overthinking things.

I'd really appreciate hearing any similar experiences from people due when I am!

America5 · 11/11/2020 19:17

@Bs93 ah really, that's lovely & yes makes perfect sense I don't feel like I can get excited yet either - hopefully when you tell her you can feel slightly more excited yourself, Was you waiting until after your 12 week scan? Ah lovely care and support is just what you need right now🥰!! They were all really happy especially my mom and fiancé's mom they are over the moon but I can't help but feel like things have to be ok now because of other peoples excitement too it's a hard one. I just hope everything is ok 🤞🏼!! Yeah I have read a few & do feel quite protected by that but I'm still nervous although your manager being so lovely gives me hope as my team is a team of moms so they will all be so caring I'm sure😊

PinkPlantCase · 11/11/2020 19:50

@ECoby I think earlier on I was loosing way more hair than normal. I have curly hair and only brush it when wet and there were much bigger clumps than normal. Now at 10 weeks I’ve noticed I’m shedding much less than I did before pregnancy.

It’s an odd one isn’t it!

Dragonfly92 · 11/11/2020 20:01

Hi @Firsttimeconcerns. I'm due mid June so a little bit ahead of you but have had two lots of spotting. I completely get the worry you're having. It is so difficult to stay positive when you're in that situation.

The first was at 5 weeks. Only once when I went to the toilet. I rang midwife advice line and they said it was common and could have been implantation bleeding. Also your body can have 'phantom bleeds' when your period should have been.

Second time was 6+1 and this lasted roughly 24 hours with a small amount in my underwear. I rang the maternity clinic and they again said it is common and just to monitor it.

I did also mention it to my midwife in my booking appointment on Tuesday who said it is common.

Try not to overthink it all (I know that is so much easier said than done). I've read threads from people who have had heavy bleeds and gone on to have healthy babies. Spotting doesn't mean the worst. Make sure you get plenty of rest if you do have any bleeding.

curiouscat1987 · 11/11/2020 20:06

@maloney123

Hey Mommas Has anyone booked an NIPT scan? I’ve got mine booked in for this weekend (and NHS 12 weeks scan the following week), getting really nervous now! Thanks x
I've got mine booked for tomorrow along with private scan. Booked it purely to find out the gender really as nhs seems to be deliberately vague about whether they withhold the information or will give it if they have it!
Firsttimeconcerns · 11/11/2020 20:12

@Dragonfly92 thank you so much for taking your time to reply and share this with me. It's very reassuring to read this. I am just trying to keep calm and not overthink things ☺️

Dragonfly92 · 11/11/2020 20:30

@Firsttimeconcerns it was reading others stories that helped reassure me too, so I'm glad I can help even just by sharing.

It's hard not to overthink it and I was in tears the first time it happened but hearing from 3 different midwives that it is common really helped. Sending you positive thoughts 😊

Jen8888 · 11/11/2020 20:30

@Firsttimeconcerns I already have a 2.5 year old DS and spotting with his pregnancy - he's currently asleep in his "big boy bed".

Now pregnant again and spotting, although now stopped (due 5/6/21)

It comes and goes, sometimes triggered by something sometimes not.

Try not to worry, my bleeding has never meant anything bad.

Firsttimeconcerns · 11/11/2020 20:35

@Dragonfly92 and @Jen8888 thank you both. I will try not to worry then.

scrambledeggy · 11/11/2020 21:23

Oh no @Jen8888, the sickness must have been such a nasty surprise! And a bit of a nightmare with the childcare as well. On the bright side at least you know you can do this whole pregnancy thing, having already done it once Smile When is your scan?

@Garman Sorry to hear you're so stressed. I don't have a lot of mates with kids but sometimes friends of friends pop up on social media and they make pregnancy seem like one big happy photoshoot! Which is why it's reassuring to know it's not just me.

@Firsttimeconcerns I'm not due at exactly the same time as you, but last month when I was 6 weeks I had a proper heavy bleed, bright red and everything. I went to the EPU expecting the worst and they said everything looked fine, but they couldn't locate the source of the bleed. I continued to spot for over a week on and off. I'm now 11 weeks, having done a private scan at 8 weeks. Trying to stay positive and struggling, but that's more due to a previous MC than this bleeding, so please don't mind me! If you are worried, please call the EPAU back, mine were great.

Should I be having the NIPT? I hadn't heard of it before coming on Mumsnet, and I'm short on cash after paying for the private scan, so I'll struggle to afford it my area. I don't want to put my pregnancy at risk, help Sad

Jen8888 · 11/11/2020 21:32

@scrambledeggy waiting for my letter to come through, hopefully soon!

I also knew nothing of NIPT, only the "Harmony Test" and for early gender information.

Are there big differences beyond what the NHS offers?

Jen8888 · 11/11/2020 21:38

Hope this isn't too personal but how is people's weight gain compared to weeks pregnant?

I'm 10 weeks and have only maintained but this is undoubtedly down to my nausea/aversions.

With DS I started gaining pretty early so a little bit concerned

scrambledeggy · 11/11/2020 21:45

@Jen8888 I had lost about 5 kilos from pre-pregnancy weight when I was weight at 9 weeks, mainly due to sickness and loss of appetite.

The midwife told me that there's no point in worrying about weight in the first trimester, as you gain it so quickly from the second onwards. So I think it's probably fine.

On the other hand, I do feel self conscious because I've always been borderline underweight (no reason, I am a small person), and all those I know of my age who have had babies seemed much healthier weights to begin with. It sounds like a really normal worry to have, but I'm sure you can chat to your midwife or GP if you are concerned.

Seedofpoppy · 11/11/2020 21:52

Hey mums-to-be ! 👋 7 weeks today and first pregnancy. The feeling is yet to sink in as I hardly feel any different at the moment ! Hoping all of yours first trimester is going great 👍

Garman · 11/11/2020 22:08

My weight is the same as it was pre pregnancy, I'm nearly 8 weeks. It's pretty normal not to gain anything or very little in the first trimester I would've thought, not a whole lot of body change or baby related weight gain, just bloating and satisfying food cravings/aversions!

PumpkinEverything · 11/11/2020 22:39

Hi @Seedofpoppy I’m 7 weeks today too 😁 first pregnancy for me too, and other than my boobs feeling a lot fuller and sometimes sore, id never know otherwise! 🙈

I’ve been weighing myself every week. As I always did anyway, and I think I’ve put on 2.5lb since finding out, which I’d rather not have 🤦‍♀️ I’m already 6/7lb heavier from lockdown, and I’d never lost the 6lb I put on during my honeymoon this time last year. Bit annoyed at myself for not losing it beforehand, but nothing I can do now!

PinkPlantCase · 11/11/2020 22:51

@Jen8888 I’ve gained 2kg and am only 10 weeks Blush my BMI was only 19 though to start with so maybe I needed to put on a bit.

I don’t think I’ve been eating anymore than normal. Probably snacked less for a few weeks because of the sickness.

SarahTTC2020 · 11/11/2020 23:36

@Jen8888 my BMI is 31 and I've maintained so far (10 weeks) which I'm pleased with. I'm hoping to maintain as long as possible as I'm heavy to start with.
I think you cant really compare at this stage, all depends how you started 😊

Humpty11 · 12/11/2020 06:22

Sorry for the slow replies, @Jinglebells87 thank you, hopefully it starts to ease up soon then! 🤞🏼 I’m glad you’ve managed to avoid the sickness, it is not enjoyable 🤢.

@America5 hey, sorry I’m so slow replying! Congratulations 😍. This is my second baby, I’ve got a little boy who is nearly two. How about you? I’ve had nausea for a while now and the sickness has ramped up the past few days. I’m also much more tired this time around but I guess that’s what happens when you have a toddler to look after too 😂🤦🏼‍♀️. How are you feeling? Have you got your scan date through yet? Have you had any early scans?

scrambledeggy · 12/11/2020 08:26

Welcome @Seedofpoppy, wishing you a smooth pregnancy journey ☺️

Couldn't sleep because of heartburn (never ever had it before) and now I feel even more sick blehhhh

Dragonfly92 · 12/11/2020 08:33

@Jen8888 I've lost 1.5kg since I found out but I know I am not eating as much as I was pre-pregnancy mainly due to nausea. I've read it can be quite normal so not too concerned.

Seedofpoppy · 12/11/2020 10:17

@PumpkinEverything same pinch haha !! I am avouded weighing myself, will only add to my anxiety. Can't deal with all the negativity right now lol Just enjoy the journey and maybe we can take care of all that weight in 7 months' time (famous last words, eh 😋 )

Thank you @scrambledeggy. Awww, sorry to hear you feeling sick. Hope you feel better soon

Funnily, all the stories about nausea actually make me a bit anxious. I have been feeling quite alright (touchwood!) and thinking why am I not feeling anything !!! :/

Dragonfly92 · 12/11/2020 10:34

@Seedofpoppy I wouldn't worry too much about not having nausea and would definitely make the most of not having it 😊

Just got my 12 week scan letter through. It feels more real getting that. Excited and nervous at the same time. I'm probably one of the only ones here who hasn't had an early scan, but that's purely because my partner is still able to come to scans at the moment.
