I know it isn’t really pregnancy related but my kitten is being very cute this morning (hormones are making me find my kitten cuter every day I swear). It made me smile and figured we can all use things that make us smile during the first trimester

Have my booking appointment today (9 weeks) and honestly I feel like a bit of a fraud! Have barely had symptoms so have no idea if anything is even happening in there ... will any of the bloods they take today be able to confirm if HCG levels are high enough as they should be for this time? Or is it simply wait for the 12 week scan and hope for the best until then?

Gingergeek89 · 13/10/2020 08:59

@Em4815 good luck with the booking appointment. Some people have very few symptoms 😊 the bloods they normally take are for blood type, full blood count and infectious disease screening. Don’t think they normally test for HCG as the home pregnancy tests are so accurate, unless there is a potential loss in which case they do two tests 48 hours apart. It is hard isn’t it when you can’t see what’s happening

@Em4815 good luck! I said exactly this to the midwife last week when had mine...just totally felt like hmmm should I be here?! Sure it'll all be good tho!
Thanks for that pic @Gingergeek89 that is definitely needed today, cant help but smile:) how old is he or she?

Em4815 · 13/10/2020 09:33

@Gingergeek89 yes so difficult! After the stress of TTC I don't think I was prepared for the first trimester stress!

Ah good to know I'm not alone @leftitlate37! Hopefully we are just the lucky percentage with no symptoms! Can't help but worry though

Gingergeek89 · 13/10/2020 09:39

@leftitlate37 he is 6 months old. Talked DH into it and promised I would do all the hard work (we have 3 adult cats so know the hard work of a kitten) Then when he was 4 months old had to break it to him that because I’m pregnant I can’t touch cat litter 🤣

@ScottishLassie91 glad to hear about your scan.. congrats xx

@leftitlate37 my boobs definitely dont hurt much now than it was two weeks before.. it is just the rise and fall of hormones throughout the weeks I guess.. as long as you don't have terrible pain or bleeding no need to worry about it..

@Gingergeek89 Thanks for the pic Smile definitely a good way to start my day..

I have decided not to tell my workplace as my contract is getting over by this year end, and at the moment I don't know if they will be extending that or not - decided to drop the bomb when they extend the contract..

I think our parents have sensed that something is up here - we decided not to tell them until the 12th week, but they smell something from miles away. They have been making plans for me to come back home for delivery, because with covid it may not be possible for them to book a flight and come to the UK. I definitely don't have the 'glow' so not sure how my mum is bringing up the question every time I video call her Grin.

RustyCat · 13/10/2020 11:16

@Em4815 I had mine yesterday, felt the same as you like a complete fraud as I haven't had any symptoms really bar from the odd bit of nausea in the evenings, sore boobs on and off and a bit more tired than normal.

I had to book a separate blood test as my trust don't do walk ins for the blood test at the moment but I had mine today, they didn't mention HCG but they took 6 vials of blood to test for various things so we shall see!

They are even testing for glucose now, apparently that had stopped for some time.

The booking appointment was absolutely fine, loads of questions about medical history for you and the Mr but it wasn't as daunting as I thought it'd be!

Waitingforbabypage · 13/10/2020 12:44

Think it's safe to say the cravings have kicked in today. All I could think about were crispy chicken strips (the type you get in shredded chilli chicken from the Chinese takeaway) and stuffing balls with gravy 🤤🤤🤤 anything else made me feel nauseous.
SO HEALTHY!! 🙄😂

RustyCat · 13/10/2020 14:57

@Waitingforbabypage well as my midwife told me yesterday try your best with your 5 a day but if you can only stomach certain foods then eat those, no sense in making yourself sick if you can stomach and hold down some foods especially if your taking vitamins (I am so thankful my beige binging is fine 🤣)

UnicornAndSparkles · 13/10/2020 15:47

Hi ladies, just checking in. All fine here, still sick, achey and started showing now (second baby, plus...carbs). Im around 12 weeks and have my scan tomorrow.

We have kittens too! They're adorable, 5 months old, a boy and a girl. Also making DH do all the litter changes now that I'm pregnant. Poor love only shared the load with me for a few weeks before I was hands off! If all is well tomorrow I'll tell my boss. She is pregnant too, so that helps. We've already told close family and very close friends, again for the support network. We did around 7 weeks when we had a private scan.

UnicornAndSparkles · 14/10/2020 10:23

Hi all, had my scan this morning. All fine, measuring 12+1 and was allowed 3 photos and a video to take home to DH. Relieved! Due 27 April. Agreed to all the screening tests and had bloods taken again for some of those. Took around 50 minutes in total. My 3yo is besotted with the video and keeps talking to my belly! Very sweet.

RustyCat · 14/10/2020 10:46

@UnicornAndSparkles oh how exciting! Are you further along than you thought?

Really lovely news that they gave you soany pictures and a video!

UnicornAndSparkles · 14/10/2020 10:50

I wasn't really sure; our early scan wasn't v accurate as baby was curled up and so they couldn't measure v well; I was told due date was somewhere between 25th April and 2nd May but that I'd find out more at 12 weeks.

Gingergeek89 · 14/10/2020 11:00

@UnicornAndSparkles congratulations! I have my 12 week tomorrow and am very nervous but again they are allowing videos as no partners are allowed so excited to have that.

OP posts:
UnicornAndSparkles · 14/10/2020 11:08

It's not pleasant waiting by yourself @Gingergeek89 but I reasured myself that actually, partner or no partner, the outcome would be the same and I had no reason to think anything bad would be revealed. Apparently the miscarriage stats are reduced to around 3% by the 12 week scan so I found that reasuring. Of course its all dependent on a variety of factors, but that's the average. My nhs trust suggests having someone wait in the car for you and if its bad news they can come in then. Not ideal, and we couldn't do that as had DD at home, but better than nothing I guess. Could you have your partner wait outside for you?

Gingergeek89 · 14/10/2020 12:07

@UnicornAndSparkles thank you, yes chances are definitely in my favour, wish I could get it out of the way haha. Had found that if you have already had a heartbeat confirmed from an early scan and no bleeding that the chance of an MMC at 12 weeks can be below 1% with no high risk factors. Someone very close to me recently had a MMC so think it’s playing on my mind more than normal, but hopefully all will be fine 😊. DH has been put on a super rare course at work which runs until 3 tomorrow (typical haha - scan is at 2) so my parents are heading over to drive me so that he doesn’t miss out on the qualification.

OP posts:
RustyCat · 14/10/2020 12:44

@UnicornAndSparkles that's typical isn't it haha. Glad you got a really good measurement this time though so chuffed for you.

@Gingergeek89 I am in the same shoes as you, DH can't come to my first scan due to work he's got some special system release rubbish and work will not allow him out, so going on my one. He is going to book a private scan though so he can see baby himself on the monitor, not sure when he's planning on doing that though!

Gingergeek89 · 14/10/2020 13:04

Well it’s definitely going to be memorable going through pregnancy in a global pandemic.....remind me @RustyCat when is your scan?

OP posts:
RustyCat · 14/10/2020 13:36

@Gingergeek89 isn't it just! Story to tell them when they are older 🤣 they'll probably learn about it in history class when in high school.

Mike's on the 4th November so 3 weeks today! I'm sooo desperate to see what's going on in my tummy it's driving me bananas not knowing.

CMAYF11 · 14/10/2020 13:56

Is anyone else in this thread from Nottingham?

NRDoss · 14/10/2020 16:14

@UnicornAndSparkles Congrats on your scan! It is nice that they are allowing videos Smile

good luck for your tomorrow's scan @Gingergeek89

leftitlate37 · 15/10/2020 06:46

Good luck for your scan today @Gingergeek89!
Congrats on yours @UnicornAndSparkles.
Sounds like u cat owners are sorted well having to get partners to sort the cat litter;) gets them in good training for nappies?!
@Em4815 thanks for your msg, glad to hear u aren't suffering with symptoms too much but yes agree it makes u worry. My sore boobs came back yesterday but again woken up today and not bad. So taking heart of the advice that others found they fluctuate even during day and get worse by evening.

RustyCat · 15/10/2020 10:08

@Gingergeek89 good luck on your scan!!

Gingergeek89 · 15/10/2020 10:35

Thank you everyone. Will let you know how it goes this afternoon eeek x
