@manth84, just wondering how you are doing following your positive Covid test?? X

Manth84 · 15/10/2020 13:34

@PatchworkWellies aw thanks for checking. I'm still not 100%. I became full of a cold, and feel so so fatigued, legs like jelly, I've still got a touch of "the runs" (sorry for TMI) which could be pregnancy related could it? But also could be covid 🤔 basically tcovid stuff on top of regular pregnancy symptoms, I think has really taken it out of me. I've taken 2 weeks off work and I think I May also take next week off too!

Gingergeek89 · 15/10/2020 16:00

@Manth84 sorry to hear your are so under the weather, hope that you feel much better soon!

Scan went well this afternoon, baby was jumping round like a frog and then lying in awkward positions, took them 20 minutes to take the measurements they needed haha. Measuring at 11+2 so a couple of days behind what was expected, giving me a due date of 4th May 😊. Going to wait for the chromosomal abnormality screening results to come back before fully sharing the news but so excited the meet the active little monster

Hello again, so I did another clear blue and got a +3 so it's progressed from last week, still waiting to meet with a doctor 🙈 in Ireland, unless you go private, you can't get a scan until 12 weeks and even some private consultants I contacted it's 7 to 9 weeks for the early scan so jealous of you all and your NHS!

I don't have many symtoms apart from tiredness and boobs are bigger, nausea has stopped but I'm sure it will be back, so I'm looking forward to finding out how far along I am , by my calculations it's 8 weeks

Manth84 · 15/10/2020 17:13

@Gingergeek89 thank you!
Ah so does the chromosome screening happen at the 1st booking appointment or at the 1st 12 week scan? I've got my booking appointment on Tuesday but not sure what to expect! Do they take a urine sample? Do I need a full bladder? 🙈

UnicornAndSparkles · 15/10/2020 17:34

Congratulations @Gingergeek89!

Gingergeek89 · 15/10/2020 17:38

@Manth84 they will discuss the screening with you at your booking appointment however the risks are calculated using measurements from the 12 week scan and a blood test taken at the same time. If you flag as high risk for anything they will call you within a few days with my trust, otherwise you receive a letter within two weeks (would imagine this might vary a fair amount between trusts)

Yes you need to give a urine sample at the booking appointment but they don’t need a vast sample so as long as you can provide something you should be fine. Will probably also do weight, blood pressure and blood test for blood type, full blood count and infection disease screening if it is similar to my trust. Then lots of medical history questions
For the 12 week scan you are meant to have a full bladder but I brought up all the water I had drink in the hospital car park haha. Told them at the start of the ultrasound and they said it makes it more difficult but they can still normally get what they need.

Congrats on your scan @Gingergeek89

@Manth84 sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. Hope you get well soon x. My booking appointment is on Tuesday too :)

So, how long does the screening test results to arrive? I thought the blood work would be done during booking appt and on the day of scan they kind of look at our report and scan and tell us immediately? I guess that's my impatience making up these processes Grin

Gingergeek89 · 15/10/2020 17:50

@NRDoss the blood test has to be down between 10-14 weeks, hence why they do it with your 12 week scan. Then the blood test results are combined with measurements from the scan to generate your risk

Gorgeous kitten! Grin

I’ve got my booking appointment today over the phone. Glad your scan went well @Gingergeek89. How lovely they were active! @NRDoss, it normally takes a few weeks and you get a letter in the post with the result. I think the midwife gets them too and will contact you if it’s a high chance (higher than 1:150 iirc, whereas 1:150 and lower chance eg. 1:250 is seen as low risk). If they contact you, you then get offered other tests and can talk things through. Sometimes though, babies are classed as high risk but born very healthy with no issue, so they’re not perfectly accurate. Due to risk of loss, some people never proceed with further tests, but the screening means a paed consultant can be on hand at the birth for if the baby needs due to the higher risk.

(Can I be added to the Facebook group? I PMd with my name on Facebook, but maybe it didn’t get through or it could be my own Facebook being annoying? I had issues with it recently.)

Gingergeek89 · 16/10/2020 11:29

@MagpieSong good luck with your booking appointment today

Thank you! 😁

PatchworkWellies · 16/10/2020 13:16

@Manth84, sorry to hear you've been feeling rough, being pregnant alone is enough without the Covid on top 😕. @Gingergeek89, we are due date twins! I had my scan on Monday but baby was too small for them to do the checks so I have to go back again soon...

Gingergeek89 · 16/10/2020 15:17

@PatchworkWellies nice to have a due date twin! Shame you have to go back but at least you get to see it twice? When I told my husband the updated due date he say that that was Star Wars day. Was very confused until he said “May the 4th be with you”. Bless him it’s the most excited I’ve seen him yet even though he didn’t get to come in.

Thanks for explaining it clearly @MagpieSong and @Gingergeek89 :)

MagpieSong · 17/10/2020 12:25

Just an update on my booking appointment. Midwife was utterly lovely and very reassuring, she feels sure I can have a much better experience than last time and hopefully the home birth I’m hoping for (planned this time). Very relieved! Grin

MagpieSong · 17/10/2020 12:29

Ps, bless you, @Manth84, you must be knackered! Hope you’re feeling better soon xxx

selti · 17/10/2020 13:30

Hey all! Hope I can join I Found out I'm pregnant a few weeks ago. I haven't had a scan yet but I worked it out online and I'm due on the 25th. I'm 16 so Very nervous

MagpieSong · 17/10/2020 14:08

Hello @selti, congratulations! Don’t panic, everyone is nervous with their first. Do you have people around you who can support you, your parents or your boyfriend’s parents? I think you’re week 9 like me. It must be pretty overwhelming being in education and having the covid restrictions and being pregnant, bless you! Have you had many symptoms?

Gingergeek89 · 17/10/2020 19:35

@MagpieSong glad to hear that it went well!

@selti congratulations and welcome to the thread. It’s my first too and have found being able to talk through things here has been a great help.

To current mums can anyone recommend a pregnancy pillow? Currently having to steal the duvet from DH to put between my legs otherwise my hips are sore (silly hormones) and figured it was time to upgrade

OP posts:
choccychar · 17/10/2020 22:04

@Gingergeek89 I've got the same problem, had a really bad back from the start. I bought a pregnancy pillow but didn't get on with it, made no difference at all, so am using a spare pillow now between knee to ankle which has made a massive difference. I'm a side sleeper so for a few weeks I barely slept, so so painful even now. If you find a good pillow please share though ☺️

Gingergeek89 · 17/10/2020 22:25

@choccychar of course will let you know if I find a good one. Wasn’t expecting the hip pain so early on it is so disruptive isn’t it? If I stir to go to the loo early (about 5) can’t get back to sleep because of it. How far along are you?

OP posts:
choccychar · 18/10/2020 07:47

@Gingergeek89
No I didn't expect it so early either, it was the first sign and symptom for me. I had it bad last pregnancy but probably more after 12 weeks. Guess the muscles relaxed from the start this time!
I nearly went to see osteo but backed out as didn't want to mix, probably can't do anything anyway.
I'm 11w6days - how about you? Scan next week. Super excited!

Meomeomeo · 18/10/2020 08:03

I bought the pillow from Pharmadoc. It’s pretty decent. You could give it a go? My back normally kills me before pregnancy anyway but I think this one does help.
