In honour of our third trimester I thought we should start a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thank you everyone! Flowers

Recovery is going well, yesterday I felt really bruised and sore but today less so. My advice would be to wait it out at home for as long as possible. I went in thinking I would be atleast 5cm dilated as contractions were so strong. Unfortunately I was only 2cm! They decided to keep me in as I was in quite a bit of pain (baby was back to back). 5 hours later I was still 2-3cm dilated. DH was waiting in car the whole time and couldn't come in to help rub my back etc because of Corona rules and me not being in established labour. Thankfully the midwives were all really lovely and did all they could to keep me comfortable.

@FudgeFlies and @Anotherboy I hope it happens for you quickly and it's straightforward births.

@Ding123 Congratulations 🎊

Anyone having any experience how accurate growth scans are ? Do baby actually turn out close to the estimated weight?
Was hoping for a VBAC but being advised to go for C-Section as baby is more than 7lbs at 36 weeks as per growth scan

BonnieBleu · 04/11/2020 20:35

@Parentinfo
I've had regular growth scans since 28 weeks. They estimated baby to be 7lbs and 14ozs at 36 weeks.
My options seemed to be early induction or c section.
I've decided to go for an early induction so that I can try and give birth vaginally.
I'm 38 weeks on Monday and still don't know if they'll let me go through with that but I'm hopeful as I've said that is my preference for many weeks now.
I don't know how accurate the scans are but I'm also not willing to put baby at risk (in case they are accurate).

FilthyforFirth · 04/11/2020 21:17

My baby was estimated 6lbs12oz at 36 weeks. I am having a section at 39. DS was 8lbs6oz at 38 weeks so I am assuming this one is probably large too. Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate but not always so I think probably best to act as if they are just in case.

Parentinfo · 04/11/2020 22:52

@BonnieBleu, @FilthyforFirth Thank you for sharing your experiences
I sensed a bit of discouragement in my last consultation for Induction due to having a previous C section and chances for shoulder dystocia and bigger tear. Seems to be weighing more in favour of C section as of now. Looking forward to having more clarity in the next consultation!
Was there any particular reason shared with you for baby being bigger than average and/or any thing to watch out for ?

addler · 04/11/2020 23:27

I've just had my 36 week scan today, at 36+4 and baby is measuring 6lb 5, which plots me at just under the 50th percentile. Can a 7lb baby really be plotting that much bigger to need a c section?

Ding123 · 05/11/2020 07:45

@FilthyforFirth sorry I'm in full baby brain mode and missed ur post.
Oh love, do stay safe and try not to worry. I really hope baby gets engaged and arrives naturally. If not, it's okay and you know what to expect. My baby was head down and ready, deciding to turn to his side last minute. It was back breaking and distressing as I wasn't dilated enough to allow DH to join me because of current Covid situation. In all honesty I wish I'd had a planned CS than enduring hours of pain alone before being rushed to theatre for ECS, seeing DH visibly upset at a room pf of panicked staff for then baby to then start crowning and come naturally!

@Parentinfo thank you Flowers I had a growth scan last Thursday due to a 2 week period of suspected static growth. I was told baby is 6.5 lb at 38 +3. Baby born on 39 +2 weighing 6.8 lb. So with me I think it was more on the accurate side.

BonnieBleu · 05/11/2020 08:46

@Parentinfo
I do also have polyhydramnios so that may have something to do with baby being bigger (but they've not said that).

I've had gestational diabetes test twice in the last 3 months and been negative both times.

What I have been told is that essentially the birth plan is my choice. You can't be forced for have a c section or an induction. But they do need to listen to what your wishes are and go from there.

I had a consultant appointment on Monday and she said to me that we could have a c section if baby is too big, and I was upset but also very clear with her that I don't want a section and told her I want an early induction instead. I've also asked to be seen by another consultant and not the one who was so easily offering me something I've made clear I don't want for weeks.

I'd say, whatever you think is best for you and baby, is what you should advocate for. All consultants have different opinions xx

Happymama24 · 06/11/2020 08:05

Morning all, I'm currently waiting to be called for a c-section. Baby was breech and had a succesful ecv 2 weeks ago. After 10 days baby turned breech again. Tried another ecv and it wouldn't budge. This is my 4th baby and I have all vaginal births until now... I'm quite nervous about the section. 38 +5 today. Looking forward to meeting my baby

littlegem84 · 06/11/2020 08:15

@Happymama24 how exciting that you get to meet your baby today! Try not to be anxious - I've wanted a vaginal birth both times but ended up with c sections - planned ones are super chilled (the surgeons were dancing while they did mine 🤣) and it can be a lovely experience,

Happymama24 · 06/11/2020 08:41

Thanks @littlegem84. They said I should be called before 10am. I have been here since 6.30am... I will let ye know how it goes

Lobster21 · 06/11/2020 08:47

Been reading this quietly but never wanting to tempt fate by joining in! My baby boy arrived safely at 4.30am on 1st November. Today is my actual due date so it was a pleasant surprise as a ftm to be early! Very speedy spontaneous labour which meant I got to give birth in local hospital maternity ward. Such a relief! Congrats to all who've had their babies this week and good luck to the rest of you expecting this month Smile

wannabebump · 06/11/2020 09:04

@Happymama24 good luck today, hope you're not kept waiting much longer. You get to meet your baby today, how exciting 😀 x

wannabebump · 06/11/2020 09:05

Congrats @Lobster21 x

MoreGinPlease2020 · 06/11/2020 09:18

Parentinfo · 06/11/2020 09:20

@BonnieBleu Thank you so much for the information. Sending best wishes that you have the birth you have planned and wished for. Waiting for my next appointment to get more clarity xx

@littlegem84 : Many congratulations 🎊

@Happymama24: Best wishes & All the best for your C-Section.. how exciting you would start getting the warm cute cuddles from today !!

Parentinfo · 06/11/2020 09:22

Oops! I meant @Lobster21: Many congratulations 🎊

Anotherboy · 06/11/2020 09:26

@happymama24 good luck, you will be holding your little one before you know it!

@lobster21 congrats for your new arrival :)

Happymama24 · 06/11/2020 10:16

Hi everyone, all prepped and went down for surgery. They done a quick scan just to see the position. Baby has turned head down since the earlier scan this morning😂... So no section today... Happy about that but was really looking forward to seeing baby

FilthyforFirth · 06/11/2020 10:20

Congrats @lobster21!

I was just coming on to say elective sections are fine, but glad baby has turned for you @happymama24! Will they induce instead or just leave until natural labour?

Thank you for your kind words @ding123. I have been prepared for a section all along, so feeling ok about it. I just hoped I would go naturally earlier as still suffering with HG and beyond desperate for it to just be over. Am literally getting sterilised at my section as I cannot face being pregnant ever again..

FilthyforFirth · 06/11/2020 13:44

The skin on my tummy is incredibly tight and feels quite sore now. Does anyone else have this? I dont remember this at all in my first pregnancy. It literally feels like it might snap. I'm not having BH. It is just so so tight, like it cant possibly be stretched anymore...

Pinktruffle · 06/11/2020 13:54

I feel like that @FilthyforFirth, its stretched so tight it almost feels a bit numb in the middle. I had out it down to me being quite petite and a FTM, my skin just doesnt want to go any further!

FilthyforFirth · 06/11/2020 13:57

Yes @pinktruffle, mine is also feeling a bit numb. More worried about how actually sore it is. Only 37+2 so just under two weeks to go still...

Pinktruffle · 06/11/2020 14:02

I've been moisturising twice a day @FilthyforFirth which has helped a little but is the worst in the evening after I've eaten, I feel like I'm going to pop!

My section is booked in for two weeks today which is scary but exciting!
