Hello! So I'm 32+4 with my second, a girl this time 😊 the whole pregnancy has gone quick as been running round after my toddler, though now I know I'm almost there it's going so slowly! So looking for some buddies to compare notes and pass the time with! Though don't know why I want it to hurry up as I know too well the pain and sleepless nights ahead 🤣 just I think uncomfortable enough now to want her out! Everywhere pretty swollen already, hips hurt and wake me up, I pee all the time even in the night, tired and get some braxton hicks. How are others doing?

Dear lord the insomnia is hitting hard tonight! Woke up at 1.30am and not been able to get back to sleep since. Last time I had it this bad with ds was the night I went into labour - woke at midnight and started contractions at 3am, but not even a twinge so clearly not the reason today! Feel frozen in time, 37+4 and must have been 37 weeks for a year already 😂🙈 getting more moany by the day - sorry guys!

UserFriendly14 · 10/09/2020 04:42

Insomnia has hit here too. I went to bed with an annoying song in my head and couldn’t switch off from there. Now on the sofa and all I can hear is DS lumping above me. Scan is definitely playing on my mind and, mentally at least, I now feel like a beached whale. DH spoke to his sister today who’s a nurse and told her about the scan and she mentioned a section. I hadn’t even thought about that TBH and really am reluctant for one. Besides the actual surgery and recovery, I had an amazing labour with DS and was genuinely looking forward to doing it again. I think even if baby’s big, they’d possibly still induce before going for a section perhaps?

You do feel frozen at this stage I think. Especially as I kept saying I’m just over 38 weeks, but now I’ll be saying just under 38. I think this is a safe space for being moany and hormonal! Goodness knows DH is fed up of me moaning!

@Crumbsinthecarpet and @mistletoeprickles hope you both have settled nights.

Now going to try for a few hours sleep before DS is up fingers crossed

mistletoeprickles · 10/09/2020 05:58

@UserFriendly14 I think a section would be a last resort enless you were having an elective. From what I know (which isn't that much 😂) they would opt for an earlier induction before going that route. They always offer natural first enless there medical reasons not too. I was offered a 37 week induction first but that option didn't stick around for long when I told them I wanted an elcs again!

@Elly88 I hope you managed some sleep.

I choose the sofa bed last night so not to wake anyone if I did carry on but I slept happily until 5.30 😮. First night I've not got up to pee in weeks! I'm glad as I really have to attempt a supermarket today. All is quiet this morning, just niggly period aches but we'll see how the day goes

Crumbsinthecarpet · 10/09/2020 08:01

@Elly88 no progress here, no contractions overnight at all! I feel like I'm going to get frustrated if I keep getting these on and off and book for an elective section, I just can't decide. I don't want to be disappointed that I've never had a "natural" birth, and worried about recovery, but Im so worried that exactly the same thing will happen as did with DS, 24+ hours of intermittent labour, 24+ hours intense labour, 12+ hours post epidural on the drip and then face another section :( sorry to hear about your insomnia!

@UserFriendly14 good settled night here thank you, though I think I would have rathered be woken up by contractions 😂😂

@mistletoeprickles same here, let's get on that ball!

mistletoeprickles · 10/09/2020 10:15

@Crumbsinthecarpet in its frustrating isn't it? I've had another good clear out (tmi) this morning and I have alot of discharge which is new. I'm wondering if I'm actually in the latent phase of labour? When I had DD (10 years ago) it was very similar I think and that latent phase last 5 days before i hit 4cm.

The downside of not making my section date would mean my section becomes an "emergency" so I wont be able to be sterlised as is planned.

I have a growth scan and consultant appointment tomorrow. I'm sat writing a list of questions because I seem to lose the ability to think when I'm actually sat there. Normally DH does the thinking for me in those situations but hes not allowed to be there!

Elly88 · 10/09/2020 11:07

@UserFriendly14 I reckon they'd induce you first for a big baby rather than section but I'm no expert. Yes I feel I've been saying I'm due 'in a few weeks' forever lol.
@mistletoeprickles 5 day latent Labour sounds absolutely hideous!! Yes finally got a couple more hours though I'm always up to pee every hour or two, it's annoying and tiring! Plus I have to try and be super quiet and use the torch on my fone rather than turn the big light on to not wake ds 🙈 hope your shop is successful, crazy how any task is so exhausting at this stage isn't it! Ive taken ds to feed the ducks this morning and got petrol. Wanted to walk to the Post box but haven't gathered the energy... I've had a couple slightly painful braxton hicks this morning but still all quiet my end 😞
@crumbsinthecarpet I'm not surprised you're getting frustrated! I know what you mean though about the disappointment of not getting a nice natural labour and that feeling of accomplishment. Not that it makes us any less mothers if we have to have a section or other type of birth, just personal preference I guess! But there's only so much on/off contractions you can take living on the edge.
38 week midwife check tomoro with someone different. No idea why I look forward to them so much as I know nothing will have changed and I'll just be sent on my way to wait it out for another 2 weeks till the next check 😩 I know she won't be engaged otherwise I'd be begging for an early sweep.
Meanwhile DH thought it a good time to ask about doing overtime at work on Saturday - you can imagine my response. I just wish they understood how much each day is a struggle never mind with a toddler to look after and entertain! Men.

OP posts:
mistletoeprickles · 10/09/2020 11:16

@Elly88 I know what you mean about the overtime. DH is doing an extra hour a day currently, now I know it only an hour but at the end of the day I'm exhausted. Hes only doing it because my maternity has yet to be sorted 😡 so we're coping on just his income for now.

I managed the supermarket and petrol but I'm achy now. That'll be it until the school pick up for me I think. DS is quite happy playing today which I'm thankful for, hes such an easy child apart from his need to pee naked everytime!

If it is latent labour I'm on day 3 now, it's all started again this morning. I'm trying to do household jobs to keep it going but having to rest every 20mins or so because my hips really hurt. I just want all or nothing now!

Elly88 · 10/09/2020 12:04

@mistletoeprickles you poor thing! Well if it is, consider this at least hump day, and hopefully it will be a bit quicker than last time too! Glad your little one is happy playing, I'm quite lucky with mine too, I've been managing to still do things with him up until now all I can manage is putting Disney on!
A tmi update - seem to be also having a clear out but did have the in laws round for fancy meal last night so could be that? Tho I can't face eating much today and normally I'm starving. I definitely had one decent contraction/braxton hicks just now where I felt everything stretch open. Nothing since though. Except feeling cream crackered after rubbish sleep so am gonna try and nap when ds goes down!

OP posts:
UserFriendly14 · 10/09/2020 13:09

Still no word from hospital about a scan. If DH weren’t home, I think I’d have called by now to see what was going on 🙊 Definitely looking forward to a nap when DS does and I’ll muster the energy to take him to the park this afternoon, if I’ve not heard anything. Watch the call come at one of those times.

Thank you for all your reassurance RE section. It’s made me feel immensely better.

@mistletoeprickles I also did a big shop last night- just in case!

It’s so strange hearing everyone’s different stories RE contractions/BH etc. You’d have thought with childbirth that there’s not much difference there can be! I’ve not had so much as a peep here, apart from fanny daggers, but I know they won’t make my waters go.

Oh and I feel everyone’s DH overtime pain! He’s suppose to finish at 16:30 and by then I’m crying out for a break, especially at the moment. It’s usually 17:00, at least, by the time he finishes and then he’s out for his cycling hobby this evening.

MrsK89 · 10/09/2020 13:14

Hi everyone
Can I jump on this thread, I've just had my induction date 26th this month, I'll be 38 weeks with 4th baby
Feeling very crampy and exhausted today. Anyone had sharp shooting pain inside thigh after lower tummy cramp?

Crumbsinthecarpet · 10/09/2020 13:29

@mistletoeprickles it's v frustrating! 5 days sounds like hell, makes mine sound like a piece of cake 😂 if memory serves, contractions kicked off again about 24 hours after the start of the first ones with DS so hopefully will have more this afternoon... Just got back from a 5k walk to the ducks with DS in the buggy, not done that on my own for a few weeks and I forgot how big the hill was! I'm buggered now, also in the siesta club for this afternoon I think!

@Elly88 ditto with using TV as childminder at the moment haha, I'm sure he has more fun with the TV than with me at the moment! Was in floods of tears to DH about it this morning :(

@UserFriendly14 I say call! I'm so impatient 😂 just message my MW about potential sweep tomorrow, still waiting to hear back about it but not holding my breath think it might end up Monday as I know she is more free then and I am seeing her anyway.

Hi @mrsk89, cramps yes shooting pain no! Round ligament maybe?

mistletoeprickles · 10/09/2020 16:01

@crumbsinthecarpet dont feel guilty about the TV babysitter, it's ok to use it when you need too. Even when you dont! DS is sat watching some crap on YouTube whilst I'm doing dinner!
5k? Are you crazy? 🤣 I've just about managed the 5 minute waddle to school and back! Just makes my hips ache.
As for the 5 days, its was 10 years ago so I dont remember it so much. I do know i had 24 hours so total peace in the middle before it really kicked off, then when it did she was born 4 hours later!

@MrsK89 welcome to the thread. Not long for you to go. No pain in the thigh for me I'm afraid but I've had just about everything else!

@UserFriendly14 how havent you called? I'd be going crazy. Your obviously very patient.

Elly88 · 10/09/2020 16:33

Oh my word 5k?!?! How on earth?! I walk for 5 minutes and my legs, feet and back are in agony! If only I could walk that far, probably do some good!
No thigh pain her either I'm afraid.
Definitely got slight hopes up over nothing. Regret having a nap, only managed to very lightly sleep so feel more groggy yet now like I won't be able to sleep tonight even more! MIL took ds to the beach this afternoon which is great but gives me more guilt that I can't do anything with him and have to palm him off. I just want her out and here so I can get back to normal! DH got out of working the weekend but has to work super late on Monday. Also just seen were set for a heatwave Sunday - Tuesday which is just the cherry on the cake right now isn't it?
Hoping you're all having more luck than me of moving towards getting baby out, feel like she's gonna have to be dragged out.

OP posts:
MrsK89 · 10/09/2020 16:50

Thank you
Spoke to the midwife regarding partner rules around induction, seems like it's getting stricter again as she said partner only allowed during active labour.
She also hoped Ill have the baby before induction date so kind of stressing now lol

UserFriendly14 · 10/09/2020 17:26

Welcome @MrsK89 Flowers Do you know if you’re having a boy or girl?

Hospital finally called to say scan will be tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it won’t be another sleepless night. I’m really not the most patience person @mistletoeprickles but DH being around does tend to reign me in!

DS has been a royal nightmare since he got up from his nap this afternoon and not even a trip to the park has sorted him. It seems he’s teething. I think I’d rather be in labour and palm him off to the ILs this weekend if this continues. Just got to feed, bath and bed him and then I’ll breathe!

@Crumbsinthecarpet I’ve been there about crying because I didn’t/don’t feel like a top parent right now Sad Unfortunately I can’t see it getting much better when baby’s here and the weather gets worse.

@Elly88 I don’t think I can face a heatwave 😩 In fact I dug out all my winter jumpers last week when it turned a bit cold. DH would love it if baby came this weekend and he got to be off for the good weather!

Spark27 · 10/09/2020 18:28

Hi @MrsK89 🙋‍♀️. I finished work today. Yay. Well, WFH and pretending to work. Exciting, and weird. Bit more of an anti climax than last time.
I had a terrible nights sleep last night too. Really achy during the evening, then managed a couple of hours on and off. The baby was moving so much and really hurting me, and then DD decided to keep waking up from 0500 onwards. Fortunately she was at nursery today so I managed to chill out for a few hours, and achieve some stuff too.

I'm so uncomfortable in the afternoons and evenings now. It's just constant. And, tmi, but I've gone the other way and am a bit constipated. Got loads of discharged too. It's really thick and stringy. I was wondering if it's part of my plug, but I seem to be getting it every day over the last few weeks. x

Elly88 · 10/09/2020 19:44

I need to remember to ask re rules on partner at birth in different circumstances so we know.
Ah i miss DS being at nursery and not having to feel guilty and thankful to MIL having him! Even if I could afford to put him back in, they haven't space until November anyway 😒
@spark27 stringy could be start of mucus plug? I'm dying for any sign or symptom such as plug or show 😩

Off into my clary sage bath I go followed by pineapple snack!

OP posts:
MrsK89 · 10/09/2020 20:26

@Spark27 I'm getting a lot of discharge aswel, stringy and stretchy but Im not sure it's the plug, I'm sure the mucus plus is meant to be a lot more jelly like.
Currently bouncing on the ball

@UserFriendly14 having a boy! How about you x

Elly88 · 10/09/2020 20:41

Been expressing in my clary sage bath and now having decent braxton hicks so bouncing around trying to at least make them help do something to move baby down and my cervix if not bring on labour!

OP posts:
Spark27 · 10/09/2020 21:39

Yeah, it doesnt seem like mucus plug (or what I've heard/read it looks like) as it's not jelly like. Just really thick discharge. Glamorous!

Fingers crossed for you @Elly88. I'm still happy to cling on for another week or so, even with all the aches and pains. Cant bring my head around all the sleepless nights just yet. Even though I've got the insomnia I've still got the hope that I might get one decent nights sleep, up until baby arrives 🤣

UserFriendly14 · 10/09/2020 23:34

You’ve just reminded me @spark27- before DS was born I had 2 sleepless nights, one with insomnia and the other worrying about my induction. I then laboured throughout the following night and then had a newborn. I don’t think I slept more than a handful of hours in that week and certainly not more than 2 hours at a time. DS didn’t sleep through until February this year, so I’ve had a good few months of catching up and getting used to it again. Maybe I’m not so ready for the newborn stage again!

Oh and welcome to maternity leave @Spark27! Wine The wine is non alcoholic unfortunately! I was exactly the same- pretending to WFH while catching up on watching TV whatever needed doing.

@MrsK89 awww how lovely! I’m having a girl, after having a boy two years ago.

@elly88 keep bouncing- you’ll get her out one way or another 😂

Spark27 · 11/09/2020 00:17

After an hour of napping I'm already awake and fed up with tonight's insomnia. It's going to be a long night 😴

Elly88 · 11/09/2020 01:52

Awake here too. I gave up bouncing and went to sleep, seems to have unfortunately ended tightening but I keep feeling very nauseous and have one super active baby. Feel like things are slowly on the change perhaps so at least something!

OP posts:
mistletoeprickles · 11/09/2020 06:43

I'm sorry you ladies have had a tough night. 3 nights ago I moved onto the sofa bed and DH built me a pillow fort, I have on behind me, one in front of me and one between my knees and I've been sleeping so much better. I've been up by 5.30 every day but that's ok when I've slept so well.

@Elly88 I'm annoyed for you that everything stopped.

@spark27 my plugs havent been like jelly. More like a wet stringy discharge, very clear. DD's had a bloody streak in it but I havent had any bloody ones with this baby. Welcome to maternity leave Wine. I havent worked since being furloughed in March. I dont know if that's a good thing or a bad thing though. I've become a full time mum with schools being closed etc which I think has actually been a harder job than going to work Grin especially in lockdown!

@MrsK89 I think we are the only 2 having boys on this thread.

I have my growth scan this morning. Am i right in thinking they can view the cervix on a scan?

Elly88 · 11/09/2020 08:01

Oh I find the bed much comfier than the sofa, I do have a total pillow Fort lol. However it's not being uncomfortable that wakes me up, just pregnancy insomnia!
Yep all pains/bh gone though I'm still having a good clear out! Hoping last night at least pushed her down lower and means I'm closer to labour!
@mistletoeprickles good luck with your scan, not sure on cervix I'm afraid.
I have my midwife appt midday today but not expecting anything to come of it. If only I could have a sweep!!
