Ladies, is anyone else struggle with waiting for midwife appointments/scans to confirm things a bit more. Im hating not knowing how things are going and if everything is okay? I know im massively over thinking things xxx

@Kliz92 I know I will struggle due to my horrendous year I’ve had with losses so if all is week in my 6 week scan next week and they don’t offer me anymore reassurance scans I will be booking a private one every 2 weeks

glastogal · 28/07/2020 17:37

Hey there! Got my BFP today - baby #2 due 5/4 I'm thrilled but also a bit scared as this was a total shock, I'm 40 and had DS via IVF so was expecting to do the same again this time!!

Really looking forward to going through the highs and lows with you all. Congratulations to all you April mums-to-be!!

PeachesAndHoney · 28/07/2020 17:39

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say hello! I got my bfp yesterday and I think my due date will be at the very beginning of April. I had a c section last time and it was actually such a good experience that I'm hoping to have one this time, in which case I guess the baby may well arrive in late March.

This will be DC2 for me. Dd is 4. I had awful hyperemesis in my pregnancy with her so I'm anxious about that starting again. The GP has already prescribed me the anti sickness tablets so I can start to take them if/when the sickness hits.

My only symptoms at the moment are tiredness and sore boobs. They feel a bit like they do when your breastfed baby randomly sleeps through the night and you're desperate for them to wake up so you can feed them!

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you all. There is another thread over in birth clubs so we could try to combine the two in due course!

glastogal · 28/07/2020 17:48

Hey @PeachesAndHoney fingers crossed you don't get HG this time, or at least that it's not as bad as your previous experience.

Only symptoms here are a general feeling of bleurgh and the odd tummy clench. I had sore boobs and bloating last time by this point so it's already a different experience for me!

Kristy17 · 28/07/2020 17:59

Congratulations to all those with new BFPs.

@Kliz92 yes, it’s hard the not knowing. I had bleeding on and off with my pregnancy with my daughter so I’m super nervous. I have noW got a booking appointment super quickly though - called my doctors yesterday and got told to expect a call on 3-5 weeks but got one today and booking appointment has been booked for 3 weeks time when I’ll be 8 weeks.

tinatsarina · 28/07/2020 18:07

@KO045 it's not to bad just comes and goes but I never had it to bad with my other two so it's abit different.

Anyone had cravings or aversions yet?

Kliz92 · 28/07/2020 18:11

@2020wish i understand fully, it must be so difficult after going through all of that!!
@Kristy17 i havent heard anything from doctors yet. I told them a week ago over the phone and now just waiting to hear from the midwife xx

Lol @KO045 😂 treat yourself! You're pregnant after all

TGbsn · 28/07/2020 18:43

Hi girls,

I've also just found out two weeks ago that I'm pregnant so I'm 6 weeks just expecting my first. Yesterday I slept 12 hours, its insane, I felt so tired. I've read through your posts and feeling a bit of relief. I contacted my GP to inform them im pregnant and they told me to call the local antenatal team in the area so, called them and they told me I can expect to wait weeks for a midwife to call. Surely this can't be right! I haven't had bloods checked or nothing and could wait another couple of weeks. I've had no advice on what supplements I should be taking, just by luck my bestie fell pregnant before me and warned me to take Folic Acid!

TGbsn · 28/07/2020 18:46

@Kliz92 yes! I've been told I should expect to wait weeks! I don't think its acceptable but I might also be worrying too much as this is my first

2020wish · 28/07/2020 19:07

Ive just bit the bullet and self referred for my booking appointment eek...

Missyrogan8 · 28/07/2020 19:15

Hi everyone!! Hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread! I'm Due 3rd April 2021, got my BFP last week, currently 4weeks 4 days so says my app :)

I've been trying for over a year and had a miscarriage at 6weeks, 2 months ago, so praying this one sticks!!

Only symptoms so far is sore boobs!... (And 5 very strong postive tests :p)

Looking forward to going this roller-coaster journey with you all :D Xoxox Smile

Missyrogan8 · 28/07/2020 19:18

Oh also to add to your doctor /midwife comments .... I called my doctors and I got a telephone midwife appointment for the 20th August . I asked for an early scan (due to previous miscarriage) and they said I'd have to go private!! Xx

KO045 · 28/07/2020 19:24

@TGbsn Congratulations! i was told about 2 weeks to wait for my midwife to call, called within a week, got my booking appointment on the 20th august but wont get a scan date till after then and then get an appointment for bloods etc. i dont want to wait too long but i guess they are doing their best.

@Missyrogan8 congratulations! yeah i think if we wanted an earlier scan we would need to go private but DH doesnt seem to want to do that for whatever reason.

Im with you on the sore boobs! iv had to buy a bigger bra and im going to order a softer one for sleeping.

Fingers crossed for you this time! xx

glastogal · 28/07/2020 19:38

I have had to delay my holiday by a day (Cornwall) as the only midwife appt I could get was on the first day of our hols 😆 otherwise i was worried I wouldn't get my scan on time!

Also booked an early scan for 15/8, I'm too nervous to wait..

Farfaraway1 · 28/07/2020 19:54

@mrsmummy1111 love your thinking - you are right, what will be will be and there is no way we can change things. All we can do is hope for the best. Sometimes I think we know too much which doesn’t always help.. back in my mums day they never really had a confirmed pregnancy until they were around 3 months on!!!

@2020wish thanks lovely xx I’m so sorry for your losses too. Hopefully these ones are our rainbow babies!

@RasperryInAMelon I’m pleased I’m not the only gasey one!!! Definitely a pregnancy symptom... Confused ha

mrsmummy1111 · 28/07/2020 20:17

For all you ladies waiting for your booking appointments, I self referred myself earlier this afternoon and 3 hours later I got an email with a booking appt for 24th August and dating scan on 21st September. So if you're getting annoyed with the wait, just self refer yourself. I went through the GP with my first preg and they were so slow that all my scans were a week delayed - which when you're desperate to see baby is a long old week!

mrsmummy1111 · 28/07/2020 20:19

@Farfaraway1 - I agree! My mum is a bit of a hippy but she had 5 kids and never had a scan. With my brother who was born in 70s, she had a blood test at the doctors when her period didn't show, and got the results about a month later confirming she was pregnant! I can't say I'd like that, but suffice to say it was a lot simpler back then!

chrissagcat · 28/07/2020 20:35

@mrsmummy1111 scan on the same day!!❤️

Nottherealslimshady · 28/07/2020 20:42

@Kliz92 the wait is killing me! 😂

Spoke to the early pregnancy unit today, told me retest a week after the bleeding stopped (saturday) then ring to book in. I think everything is fine though tbh, feeling cautiously confident.

Serethiel · 28/07/2020 21:00

Each trust seems to be different with the self referral thing. My first pregnancy I booked an appointment with the GP thinking that was normal after I'd seen my friend do it. The GPs reacting was pretty much " so?...." I burst out crying and she changed her tone 😂 hormones! Anyway...I didnt hear anything for weeks (they dont seem to hurry themselves) eventually i got a letter and had a booking appointment at 9/10 weeks and a scan at 12+3!
By my 2nd pregnancy (march 2020) I had heard you could cut out the middle man and self refer, so I did as soon as I got my BFP. Within 3 days I had a letter with my booking appointment and scan date 👏🏼

So this time around, I did the same thing. My letter should be arriving by the end of the week :)

It would be amazing to get an email back confirming dates of the appointments though!

Have to say I am a bit bummed that the booking appointment won't be face to face. We have an amazing team of midwives and would be lovely to see them. Do you think our check ups will be by phone too 🤔

KO045 · 28/07/2020 21:00

@mrsmummy1111 it seems everywhere is different! I had to call the midwifes myself even after the GP confirmed my pregnancy, call within the week to arrange my booking appointment but that’s 4 weeks away still. I’ll be nearer 14 weeks or more by my guess by the time I get my scan date I think

Serethiel · 28/07/2020 21:00

Sorry for rambling! Ha

Also gas is a proper mood killer right now 😒😒😒

whiteolive · 28/07/2020 21:32

@Missyrogan8 congratulations! Your situation is near enough identical to me and also due on the 3rd. Crossing fingers for you!

There’s no self referring in my area and my GP couldn’t care less until I’m at least 6 weeks then they will book me a booking appointment around week 8/9... private scan I’ll book for week 8, praying it gets to that stage 🤞🏻

Also I feeling a bit annoyed that my fiancé has told a few close family members on Sunday about our news. I don’t know if I’m overreacting but they have all been speaking to me knowing I’m pregnant and I’ve been none the wiser!! Fiancé only told me tonight... I get he’s excited too but I just didn’t want anyone to know until we at least see the baby to make sure it’s ok.
