Morning everyone. As we are all in the newly pregnant can't really tell anyone phase, is anyone 'shielding'?? I'm being asked out for more socially distanced walks and outside 'coffees' etc but can't find whether the Gov guidance has changed since March or whether pregnant people should still be shielding.

Workingmama1 · 24/08/2020 10:51

Scan went well! Little heartbeat and measuring 7+2. I was so relieved I cried after getting bad news at this point last time round.

@bh2210 I think the advice now is to be extra vigilant with social distancing, but the guidance for pregnant women was never full of shielding (unless you had another high risk condition). Luckily I'm still able to wfh but I think as long as ypu can social distance its OK to go to work, meet friends etc. I'm in Manchester so because of the local lockdown basically can't see anyone anyway so it doesn't make much difference!

DMCCF · 24/08/2020 11:01

@bh2210 I’m still working as a dental nurse seeing patients which worries me to death! Not allowed to do anything that involves the drills and droplets though, I’ve kind of been avoiding seeing my friends etc as I can’t tell them the reason I’m being extra cautious so I find hibernating is the easiest way lol!

SabrinaGx · 24/08/2020 11:27

@Workingmama1 such a beautiful scan picture I am so so happy for you! Smile

supersonicginandtonic · 24/08/2020 12:58

@bh2210 the guidance was never for pregnant women to shield, unless they have underlying health conditions or certain heart problems.
I am seeing face to face clients and have been told by my midwife that this is ok. She says I can even carry out drug testing just not breathalyser testing due to the droplets.

VickiS86 · 24/08/2020 13:50

@Workingmama1 I'm so happy you got good news today. I bet you're so relieved :-) I'm still anxious about mine. I'll let you know how it goes

bh2210 · 24/08/2020 13:52

@supersonicginandtonic @SabrinaGx @Workingmama1 @DMCCF
Thank you! This was what I wanted to hear. I'm wfh anyway so not seeing any clients face to face and am therefore not out and about enough.
Will need to get out of evening drinks with people by saying I'm too busy with completions at work... may be the only way for the next few weeks!

@Workingmama1 great scan!

VickiS86 · 24/08/2020 13:53

@SabrinaGx that's so frustrating what 111 said. Have you called your GP to see if they can book you a scan? I really hope they'll be more helpful

megmcc93 · 24/08/2020 13:57

@Workingmama1 what a lovely scan, you must be so thrilled ☺️

@SabrinaGx did you ring your GP after? Hopefully they can refer you for a scan 🤞🏼

SabrinaGx · 24/08/2020 14:10

@megmcc93 @VickiS86 I rang my GP this morning and the receptionist didn't actually put me through to the doctor but just told him that I had had some brown discharge. She let me know the doctor said it was a threatened miscarriage and just to ring someone if i start passing a lot more blood or clots. I haven't had any bleeding so I just don't know what to think or do. I know if I'm miscarrying then I can't do anything about it but I just wish they would refer me for a check up or a scan or something Sad

SabrinaGx · 24/08/2020 14:12

Sorry i didn't mean to say "they told me to ring someone"

I meant to say they told me to ring them back or the emergency room if i get heavy blood or cramps!

SALICE42 · 24/08/2020 14:21

I am expecting around 10/11th April.
This is my second pregnancy, first unfortunately ended in MC at 9 weeks in Dec 2019 after TTC for 18months, so naturally extremely anxious about this one! I think I am around 7 weeks pregnant. I had an early viability scan last week Monday and they dated it 6weeks as it was 5.0mm in size with a heartbeat of ~150bpm, so I am hoping this is a step in the right direction (trying not to read up too much!)

I literally don't have any symptoms apart from a little bit of tiredness and bigger boobs but it comes and goes. No frequent urination, no nausea, aversions etc, so I am worried!

SALICE42 · 24/08/2020 14:23

Are you in the UK?
You should have access to an early pregnancy assessment unit (EPAU) You can self refer by phoning them with your symptoms and concerns and they can offer you a review / and or scan.

VickiS86 · 24/08/2020 14:51

@SabrinaGx I really feel for you right now. Have you had any contact from a midwife yet? They really should be supporting you better. I think you should call your GP back and insist on talking to your GP. The receptionist doesn't have a clue. When they ask you what it's regarding just say its pregnancy related and you want to discuss it with your doctor. If they still won't make you an appointment then call the EPU directly or just go to A&E like i did. I wish you all the best.

megmcc93 · 24/08/2020 15:00

@SabrinaGx that's awful, you should definitely speak to the doctors. Or go to a&e. I would just to be careful, are you still bleeding?

@SALICE42 I thought that but I was told to ring EPU on Sunday morning and when I tried to call they informed me it was referral only and I had to get referral from a gp!

SALICE42 · 24/08/2020 15:06

@SabrinaGx - bizarre ! I only had my scan last week through EPU as not having pregnancy related symptoms. I did not need a referral from my GP. In fact my GP was not even aware of the positive pregnancy test (will be now as EPU send them a letter).
Maybe different NHS trusts operate their EPU differently and have a different set of procedures. Ours takes self referrals.

SALICE42 · 24/08/2020 15:10

@SabrinaGx .
Can I ask where you are living ? Regardless of whether it’s GP or self referral, your GP practice isn’t being very helpful. I actually work in primary care and we would never just leave you to get on with it. Even in these unprecedented times we would see you that day and or arrange EPAU to find out what’s going on especially if you are concerned or anxious.

SabrinaGx · 24/08/2020 15:14

Yes im the same, I did ring the EPU in Birmingham and they said it was referral by gp only! I haven't had any red blood, just the brown discharge which comes and goes. This has been going on for about 6 days now i think. I did a clear blue digital as I just didn't know what else to do! When I found out I was pregnant it came up as 2-3 weeks, and now its saying 3+ so I'm just trying to stay as positive as I can. I hate the not knowing Sad

SabrinaGx · 24/08/2020 15:15

@SALICE42 I'm in Birmingham!

Workingmama1 · 24/08/2020 15:23

@sabrinaGx how frustrating that you've not been able to see anyone. I agree with @VickiS86, I would ring back the gp and either say pregnancy related and you want to speak to a dr or its personal and you'd rather not say. It seems to be such a postcode lottery on how you are treated. We all know they can't stop a miscarriage but the anxiety that comes with not knowing what is going on is horrible, which is why they should offer you a scan or bloods. Thats actually why (pre covid) they would offer reassurance scans after a MC as the easing of anxiety was better for maternal MH. But it is good news if you got a 3+.

@vickiS86 @megmcc93 @SabrinaGx thank you! I feel like a weight has been lifted but not sure how long until nerves creep back in!

@tiff94 I've asked to join the Facebook group 😊

SabrinaGx · 24/08/2020 15:55

I rang the EPAU once more and spoke to a really nice woman he said to ease my mind I should call back the gp and just say I want to be referred to the EPU.
I called the gp, explained what the early preg unit said and managed to speak to the doctor who did refer me. However EPAU have called me and said as bleeding and pain aren't too bad they want me to monitor and see how I go, if anything worsens I'm to call them or they will call me on Monday. Just wanted to update you all and will keep you updated as the days go on! X

DMCCF · 24/08/2020 17:13

@SabrinaGx I had pain and brown discharge and they said that because the discharge was brown that it was old blood and that it’s more worrying if it’s red blood but to keep an eye! That’s not good service from your GP which is a shame. Keep us updated xx

SabrinaGx · 24/08/2020 17:20

@DMCCF thank you for your message! How long did yours last? Did you have it a while ago? Mine seems to have stopped in the last couple hours and I seem to be quite dry but I'm not sure if it's because I kept going to the toilet and checking myself! I'll keep you all updated x
