Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

Footprints I think I see a boy bit ???

Is nausea a sign of pre labour ? #askingforafriend

Sheera1 · 21/08/2020 04:53

Oh lovely pic @footprintsintheslow. Honestly I can't see anything. Looks like any bits are on the other side of him/her and hidden. I keep saying "he" as we naturally avert from saying it, so maybe that is all she was doing. I think mine is a girl and I still seem to say he without thinking.

@@realladymarmalade oh could be. I never went into labour naturally so don't know.

I now have toothache too hence writing this now. Lost a filling at the start of lockdown but already have root treatment on it but it started to hurt and managed to get a temporary filling in on Wed but it is still really hurting. I am sure that means nothing good. Can't chew my food so feeling especially lousy. Moan moan 🤦‍♀️

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/08/2020 07:51

Oh god @Sheera1 nothing worse than toothache!! I've lost 2 teeth in the last year to infections and straight after losing each one either the tooth next to the gap or the tooth above started really aching (one needed a filling and one was hurting due to a change in my bite). Each one was awful and I spent weeks on painkillers. During lockdown I've also lost some fillings (I have terrible teeth - not my fault I look after them) dentist has finally agreed to an appointment on September 1st.

@Realladymarmalade I think practically anything can be the start of labour! 🤞🏼for you it is!

@footprintsintheslow lovely picture!! I wouldn't put too much weight on what the sonographer said. Has it made you want to know the sex now?

Frazzlerock · 21/08/2020 08:40

Aww lovely pic @footprintsintheslow!! I can't see the sex either and, like the others have said, I don't think the sonographer saying 'he' means anything at all.

@Sheera1 Sorry to hear about your toothache. Not pleasant! I hope all is okay.

@Realladymarmalade no idea about labour symptoms as I've also never gone into labour naturally. My only sign that things were imminent was my waters breaking like the Niagra Falls but that was all.

footprintsintheslow · 21/08/2020 10:00

I've never wanted to know the sex before but now I'm tempted as I feel we've kind of been told anyway.
But maybe we haven't been told after all. I'm happy with either, I was just in shock. I've got two girls and I've lost a girl so it didn't even occur to me I'd cook a boy in there!

This is what I thought I could see....

Took co-codamol after that message and managed to sleep a bit. I am hoping it settles down. @onlyreadingneverposting8 my teeth are awful too. Inhave only used original sensodyne my whole life as have an extreme aversion to mint and dentist worked out recently there is no fluoride in it! Prob been my issue.

@footprintsintheslow I can never tell anything but I think that could be a foot or the other hand? I would only manage with a view underneath looking at the bum and even then prob struggle lol. All I know is that the testicles are still inside so it is one wee willy and a girl is three lines looking like a burger. A boy would be lovely for you. X

AliasGrape · 21/08/2020 10:43

Hi everyone, I fell off the thread so wanted to check in. Hope everyone is ok.

@Realladymarmalade don’t know about the nausea- think it can be! Exciting! How are you feeling anxiety wise?

@footprintsintheslow that’s a lovely picture, I have no idea if the pic shows boy bits or not. I said he’s all the time and was sure it had been given away and we got a girl so who knows!?

Hope the tooth is better @Sheera1

@fool11 that sounds so tough. We’ve given up attempting to breastfeed/ express/ pump so I don’t have that stress, and I don’t have other children, so I’m not in the exact same boat but I’m also wondering how on earth anyone gets anything else done. My little one has decided she will not sleep or settle anywhere except in on one of us. It’s impossible to put her down without her crying. I try to give her to DH before he starts work and as soon as he finishes and do things like shower/wee/ brush teeth etc in that time along with stick a wash on or wipe the surfaces or something. Although he always tells me to go to bed for an hour and sometimes I have to take that option to keep from falling over with tiredness! But whilst he’s working I’m pretty much trapped underneath her all day. Which rules out sleeping when she’s sleeping! Or any form of housework or eating anything that needs more than one hand to prepare/ eat. I do have to let her cry for the length of time it takes to stick bottles in the steriliser and make a fresh one, but I’m not comfortable leaving her longer than that. I just keep telling myself it’s a phase and she’ll eventually be ok with being put down for a short time! One thing that does work sometimes is a walk in the pram - she’ll go to sleep and sometimes will stay that way for 20 mins or so when we get home so that can be time to grab a sandwich or something. A friend loaned me a sling but to be honest I’ve not had the time/ energy to figure out how to assemble and use it - wish I’d practised whilst pregnant now! I do think it might help give me two hands free though so I’m going to set a target of figuring it out over the weekend.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 21/08/2020 11:24

@AliasGrape that behaviour is totally normal! Please do not worry! You are right - it is a phase and will pass but it may take a number of weeks . If you haven't already google the 4th trimester!

Sheera1 · 21/08/2020 12:23

Yes I think I am expecting that will be the case when bubba is here. Although at the time I will probably be sobbing quietly.

Having a practive with a sling is a good idea. I have bought a few cheaply, the babasling which I used with DS, close caboo and I have the wrap from the baby box. I have also bought a joie swing 2nd hand and was given a fisher price one and a cheap bouncer with vibrate. I am hoping one of these things will give me some respite when the time comes, but think I need to prepare now that I will be tied to the couch.

I will be home educating ds who is 10 at the same time which is worrying but it can be so flexible and actually can probably have lots of time with him to do things while feeding or sitting and getting out for walks. Is it bad I am hoping he keeps me sane? He is great company and a good age to help get me a drink or a biscuit etc.

I am so not prepared for the tiredness though!

I am planning to try to breastfeed but I am not going to express this time. It nearly killed me last time. Formula is not the devil is my mantra. I was basically told by HV that is was so struggled on for 4 months with a very hungry baby either feeding or expressing almost constantly and sobbing throughout. Please remind me of this when I have forgotten that was my plan.

Sheera1 · 21/08/2020 18:39

Unboxed the pram finally. Really impressed with it. The space grey canopy looked lovely but practically speaking we are messy sods and with the dog it would get dirty so fast. DP preferred the sleek black anyway. X

Looks lovely @Sheera1! Can never understand people who get cream coloured prams - do they just not use them?? God you lot are organised! I just keep crocheting and thinking I need to pack the house ready for moving...

Viennoise · 22/08/2020 07:06

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I went to a specialist retailer recently just to hear what she had to say about the various models. She advised us to get a paler colour pram as baby puke and most snacks you give them to begin with are pale, she thought you could get by with washing a cream pram/pushchair less than a black one. I was sceptical and bought a secondhand bugaboo buffalo in black/petrol somewhere else anyway 😂

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/08/2020 08:29

@Viennoise I can see her point - really I suppose we all need at least 2 - one for the earlier days and one that doesn't show mud!

footprintsintheslow · 22/08/2020 09:16

As long as all the bits of the prams and pushchair are washable it doesn't matter really I'm sure. I'm forever chucking the seat liner in the wash and it dries over night.

My pram is black but inside is a furry seat liner that's gorgeous and cream! That's had all sorts on it. In summer I went fruit picking and when I looked my precious baby and seat liner were covered in cherries and juice. It all came out in the wash though!

But I personally wouldn't go for a light coloured pram.

You haven't got long then @78Helena!! 👋🏼 Looking forward Tim hearing the name you decide on. Some of my kids (this baby is dc 9) have quite unusual names - all Greek due to my heritage.

78Helena · 22/08/2020 15:21

We are lucky to have kids at all.

Our daughters were all conceived via ICSI

Isadora 2011 and twins Estella and Marisol 2015

This one was a total surprise, escpecially at 42, and was conceived naturally.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 22/08/2020 15:52

@78Helena was meant to be!!

@Frazzlerock latest make - quick and easy - you crochet with two strands of yarn from two balls at the same time. Picture doesn't do it justice!

Ethellsmum · 22/08/2020 17:26

Afternoon all - just popping in whilst trapped under a feeding baby!
She is 5 weeks old now - time needs to slow down a bit. She has outgrown the first size sleepsuits now.
We had the tongue tie appointment this week - we are still feeding with the nipple shield mainly but keep trying her without once she’s not absolutely starving and in a rage.
@fool11 it’s tough! I’m lucky that I have teenagers who are happy to hold baby for ten mins whilst I have a wash/wee/eat etc. I get stressed when I can’t get the housework done as I’m use to having a tidy house but I know this phase won’t last forever. I bought a sling this week in the hope it helps me get stuff done as baby hates being put down and hardly sleeps in the day.

Realladymarmalade · 22/08/2020 20:36

Hey 78 Helena wow -thats amazing with your kiddies ! only my first 2 DC are of Greek /Irish heritage . Went for more of the Irish in the end but one of their older half sisters is called marianthi. My mother on law , Aphrodite, was really pushing for aphrodite or aristedes . I nearly called dd Eliana. No such excuses with this one though still feeling settled on Zachary or Roman..

Anyway I've had an absolutely hideous day. Ds and dp have been up to get their covid test this morning. Ds has a cough. It's just a cold and very mild - but wanted to be sure. Dp had a slightly hoarse throat & no symptoms. So then my mucous plug started going, the movements were reduced and my dsis (dp not allowed due to unknown test result) had to take me to triage . Baby is fine but the midwife thought breech...cue another scan....he is not ..he is fine ! And actually she didnt think on the scan labour looked imminent. I just need to not go before our results are returned. Tomorrow morning we hope and pray.
Trying to lie down and rest but been very teary all day.

I live in tayside where we have 73 new cases due to a local chicken factory and a school closure 3 miles away. I'm now thinking of just self isolating with my kids regardless & taking them out of school till I deliver in the next week - induction next Saturday
WWYD ?

Realladymarmalade · 22/08/2020 21:10

Our covid results have been returned negative 😊😊😊😊

NaomiB79 · 22/08/2020 22:00

@Realladymarmalade that's good news! I grew up in Tayside around where the break out is so I know that area very well. It's a tough decision because although your results have come back negative now, there is still a risk of community transmission (probably most likely via the kids going to school) as cases are rising fast just now near where you live. For the sake of a week I'd be tempted to keep them off and all stay at home so you know you'll be fine for your partner to come to the hospital and be there in labour with you. Would your midwife be able to advise if you phoned on Monday morning?

footprintsintheslow · 22/08/2020 22:15

Pull the kids out of school @Realladymarmalade a week won't make any difference to them but you'll kick yourself if one of you gets it and dh missed the birth.

Sheera1 · 23/08/2020 00:23

I would pull them out of school @realladymarmalade. Last thing you need is a covid outbreak and a new born. Even for a couple of weeks. So risky. Sending you lots of hugs.

I have had a day and a half and can't believe I haven't had a bubble. It was close though.

Against all my better judgement we have come to Argylshire overnight for DP's sister's birthday. It is 100 miles and roughly 2 hours in the car. As you know I have been having toothache and starting to not like the idea of travelling but it is prob the last time we will come up now for a long time and decided I would be miserable at home with the tooth anyway.

So started out and the road was open after a landslide a few days ago. While on route there was another landslide and the road is fucked. We had to go a long way round. Traffic was a nightmare and took us 4 hours. 2 corners from her house the car struggled to get into gear and outside her house the clutch went completely. I had to reverse in one shot into a tiny driveway on a narrow road while everyone else pushed! My car is a ford and only just 3 yes old and out of warranty by a month!! The AA couldn't fix it. They can only tow to a local garage up here who are so busy due to covid my car will be stuck here for at least a month and a new clutch will be extortionate never mind the labour.

We have to get a lift back tomorrow from his younger sis who is a terrible driver. I am a nervous passenger already and shotting myself about it. It is a terrible road. I love her but she will be showing off.

My toothache has also got horrendous and I have only managed to eat two eggs this morning and two bowls of ice cream. Needed up calling nhs 111 up here and need to go to the dental hospital here in the sticks! It looks like an absess and no clue what they will do to me. I am terrified of the dentists. It is a wisdom tooth and they might need to extract but not sure they will at 27 weeks just in 3rd trimester?

What a shitter of a day. Wish me luck for tomorrow dentist and drive.

I was close to tears but as we are in company I managed to hold it together.
