Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

Welcome and congratulations @WutheredOut

Lovely news about your little boy @Viennoise

I’m starting to feel slightly more human again. Midwife is definitely on the case re PND. She got me a phone appointment with the gp on Thursday and is referring me to perinatal mental health.
Honestly I think it’s just early days still. I’m very tearful on and off but I’m fine in between those waves and actually yesterday don’t think I cried all day. I’ll see how things go and won’t turn down any support if needed but I do think I’m ok underneath!

We’ve not actually left the house with DD yet so planning a walk today which I’m looking forward to.

aliasgrape that's great you're opening up to your midwife /GP and they are on the ball. Could also be those few weeks post partum are quite a shock to the system hormonal and in terms of life change , and huge for a ftm . Plus the birth trauma you had. Do you know any new mums locally?

I had bad antenatal and post natal depression my last baby..I wish I'd done more about it earlier but the big part of the issue was an unhappy relationship falling apart and I couldn't confront that. The other issue is she wanted to refer me to the team I worked in (as I work in mental health ) lol so that to me was not an option ! I did arrange to get help out of area and accepted antidepressants when dd was 1. I guess the golden rule is keep talking about it and monitor it :)

sheera never apologise for moaning! The eating /gastro thing is horrible.

Had mildly sore lower back last night. You start to cling to hope that this is it but no !

Countingblessings · 15/08/2020 10:11

Morning everyone! Wow so much to catch up on!

Congrats to the new babies arriving and the gender reveals. All so exciting. Hope the new mamas are settling into the newborn stage ok. Well done for speaking up on PND @aliasgrape. Can be hard to do but so important and worth it. And welcome and congratulations @WutheredOut!

I'm totally taking on board everything that's getting said about monitors and prams. I'm not sure if we'll get a new pram which is a shame because I hate the pram we have Sad it's one of the VIB prams and I just remember my girl looking so uncomfy in it sometimes. It's fine for the carrycot stage. We've also got a much better mamas and papas one for when this new arrival is a bit older. Would love a new one but they can be so expensive! Might look into any second hand ones locally.

Does anyone have any good ideas / advice for telling a 3.5 year old they are going to be a big sister? Dont want to say too soon as it will still be a lifetime away for her but she will need time to get used to the idea. Got a couple of big sister books but not showed her yet. I'm 22 weeks and feel MASSIVE plus she keeps banging my tummy so think I'll need to say soon. Any tips? X

Realladymarmalade · 15/08/2020 21:41

counting blessings
I told my ds aged 2.5 he was getting a little sister when I was about 25 ish weeks. It was getting obvious! I read 'theres a house in my tummy' to him..He adjusted great to it all and has always loved being a big brother.
My 6 and 9 year old I told at 12 weeks via a scan picture and a birthday invite ..their reaction was priceless (dd- forensic interest; ds - tears of joy!) ..

Sheera1 · 16/08/2020 10:58

Yes much less full yesterday and today. That was horrible. Note to self, eat less. 🤦‍♀️😁.

I have tiny wee itchy blisters inbetween my toes and on the bottom of them. Googled it thinking it might be something infectious and it is Dyshidrotic eczema and apparently us preggers ladies are susceptible to eczema. The joys😁.

Aww that is a lovely reaction from your older kids @Realladymarmalade

@AliasGrape I think I had mild PND with DS looking back. I found things so hard. I remember the ward had three 18/19 year olds with baby girls and they were constantly changing their outfits like wee dolls. DS wore a plain short sleeved vest as I was terrified to change his clothes as I didn't know how. A sensible and practical 31 yr old. It was very hot and sunny and I sat inside on my sofa feeding as I could not work out how to get me, ds and a chair out my back door. It was really strange. I was really lucky to meet another mum about the same age and our babies teo days apart and we would sit and watch films on her projector while we fed and kept each other sane.

As I am home educating ds now I worry I won't meet anyone and hard to take a 10 yr old along to things esp one with additional needs. But I feel much calmer this time and hopefully less likely to put so much pressure on myself and DS is amazing company. And I have the dog.

Welcome and congrats @WutheredOut.

@Countingblessings I didn't buy a pram for ds. I had a hand me down I hated and then bought and sold about 4 different 2nd hand prams/buggies as didn't really like any of them.

Our travel system was the first think I bought this time and went with one that covered off all the things I hated on the prams 😁. Got a great deal on it and coming this week apparently. I hope I don't hate it too. Lol.

WutheredOut · 16/08/2020 16:24

@Countingblessings ‘there’s a house inside my mummy’ is the best book! It still makes me emotional 7 years after my last baby! I guess I’d best get it out again! 😳

WutheredOut · 16/08/2020 16:28

I am feeling really sorry for myself today, when not pregnant I suffer from properly debilitating migraines and having only just got our positive result on Friday didn’t have a chance to speak to my GP. I cannot take my prescription meds whilst pregnant and I currently feel like my brain is trying escape out of my temple. I hoped new exciting hormones might wipe out the migraines ... it seems not!
But pregnant so yay! 😂

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 16/08/2020 18:54

@WutheredOut sorry to hear of the migraine! I'm an occasional migraine sufferer but a couple of horrid ones in early pregnancy this time. Hopefully yours will abate as the pregnancy progresses.

footprintsintheslow · 16/08/2020 19:03

@WutheredOut oh god I live in fear of having a migraine whilst pregnant.
Does anything give you any relief?

WutheredOut · 16/08/2020 19:19

I have at least two full on migraines a month, once when I ovulate and another when I’m ‘on’

They only started after I have DC2 and I genuinely thought they would abate now....they obviously aren’t going to and it terrifies me if I have to go through the next few months without medication.

I had paracetamol and a ‘proper‘ coffee earlier which has given me a bit of relief but I’m in limbo until I can see my gp as neither of those are things I want to take on a regular basis!

My poor kids are bearing the brunt of it as I’m proper grumpy and they don’t understand why the pills haven’t worked 😂

God I sound so whingey! I’m not usually I promise 😂

Realladymarmalade · 16/08/2020 21:15

Oh lord sorry to hear about migraines ladies. That's strange that its brought on after your dc birth ? Pregnancy really wreaks havoc on us eh.

Also, I really do not want or need any unsolicited advice from others re how to get the baby out. I'm 42 and I've done this twice before....raspberry leaf tea, korma , walking, speed bumps, bouncing on a ball hide the saucisson.... I KNOW !! I do not need /wish to hear your birth stories 🤣🤣🤣
Amen.

WutheredOut · 16/08/2020 21:31

I always tell people DS totally caused my migraines.... Poor little chap!

In other news I was worrying about the migraine and I thought ‘I know! I’ll just take that other clear blue test I have hanging around as that will make it all real and I’ll stop worrying’

Except it’s come back with 1-2 weeks rather than 2-3 weeks like it was two days ago, so I’m either an idiot because I should have waited until the morning and now I’ll be panicking all night, or the little bean of wonder hasnt stuck.
I’m so cross with myself!

footprintsintheslow · 16/08/2020 22:39

Will you buy some more tests? @WutheredOut
It's such a vicious cycle to be in isn't it!

WutheredOut · 17/08/2020 02:59

I will test again in a few days but my boobs are no longer aching either....I’ve been here before so I’m not overly surprised bit until I found out I was pregnant I didn’t realise how much I wanted another baby but I don’t think it is meant to be and I think I am too old to try properly. I will hug my two DC even harder in the morning and remember that they are enough.

Wish I'd have known about this group when I was pregnant! I'm 40 in a few months. I have a 13 yo, a 10 yo (boys), and a 11 week-old baby daughter with my fiancé (his first - and last!)

I had a home birth and it was truly awesome Smile

Goos luck to all of you! x

Realladymarmalade · 17/08/2020 07:48

Hey nickname

Congrats on your daughter!

I think this wee thread is a good support post birth too so please stick around !

Like you I am expecting dc3 - this is my partners first and last also. I think there are a few of us here due to blended families. I'm due in less than 2 weeks and currently still having the omg back to baby stage fears .I have ds 9 and dd6. How are you finding it?

Frazzlerock · 17/08/2020 07:48

Oh @WutheredOut I so hope everything is okay, please let us know how you get on, I'll be sending sticky bean vibes to you xx

@Nicknamegoeshere We are very similar. I have children of similar ages and also pregnant with my fiance's first and last baby. I won't get a homebirth though Sad maybe another lifetime... Wink
Congratulations to you!

Frazzlerock · 17/08/2020 08:10

@Sheera1 I sometimes get that horrid full feeling too. I find if I eat smaller meals more often it eases it. Then I can go back to eating normally again after a week or so.
I've also had terrible itchiness, but on my hands, since day one. Especially around my engagement ring so I had to remove it for several weeks. GP gave me some special hand cream/wash called Dermol which has really helped and means I can wear my ring again.
Exciting news your pram is arriving this week!

@Realladymarmalade oh god, that was me 15 years ago when I went 12 days over with DS1. The daggers I gave people when they said "have you tried?" Angry So unhelpful! As if I would let myself go 12 days over and not have tried literally everything to get the baby out, especially in the heatwave that was happening (much like you've had to endure!) I hope baby is here very soon!

Oh @Countingblessings get a new pram!! You can get really good ones second hand and you can easily sell it on afterwards if you take good care of it.

@AliasGrape great news that midwife is on the case for PND. I so hope things are looking brighter for you xx

I thought I'd let you know that the monitor we chose (or rather DP found) is brilliant. It is the Vava one here www.amazon.co.uk/Monitor-VAVA-Display-Battery-One-Click/dp/B081YCRLFV?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
I was a bit Hmm as could only find it on Amazon but it had very good reviews and we've had a play with it and the screen and sound are fab. Not a breathing monitor but we also bought the Snuza Hero which is the only breathing gadget (I think) endorsed by the Lullaby Trust and that seems great too. Both came to just over £200. Bit better than the Bluebell I was hankering after with all the bells and whistles for £300!

And now I'm looking at bottles that will be easy to use and swap while BFing without any nipple confusion. So here we go again on the research.... Which ones have you used or are using?
I'm thinking Mam as people seems to rave about them and they are 'self sterilising' (??) but I am being seduced slightly by Nanobebe and Minbie. I'm sure I'm overthinking everything!

footprintsintheslow · 17/08/2020 15:55

@Countingblessings I have a fab second hand pram. I went to Mothercare to try them out and chose what I wanted. Then I went on Facebook market place and bought my immaculate Silver cross Pioneer for £120. It was still a limited edition current stock in John Lewis at the time and was £1000. I love it so much

There's some real bargains out there if you have time to look and wait

Sheera1 · 17/08/2020 17:50

Here for the bottles advice. I have some tommee tippee ones that worked well with ds. Might see how they go and swap if don't work. So many more out there.

My pram cam and I am raging. I got a DPD note at 9.27 that is was being delivered at 11.13. No notice at all.

I was going to be out so I immediately changed the delivery day.

I come home and the dick has dumped it in my drive in full view of anyone passing. It has pictures on the box of what it is. It has been torrential rain all day. The boxes are totally soaking and my partner is away so I had to move these massive heavy boxes 6 months pregnant.

He put on the app it was left in my sage space which is IN the blue bin (for small inexpensive items) or IN my shed. Never mind the fact I changed the day as neither was appropriate for a fecking expensive pram. I am so angry. The boxes are ruined and if something is wrong it needs to go back in original packaging. Wrote a big rant complaint!

Sheera1 · 17/08/2020 17:51

Can't even open it as DP is away working all week and think only fair we do it together. 🤦‍♀️

Sheera1 · 17/08/2020 17:52

Oh and DPD are now texting me saying it will be delivered tomorrow. Is it aye?

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/08/2020 18:01

@Sheera1 @Frazzlerock you're both getting so organised....I am....not 🤦🏽‍♀️
Had the WEIRDEST dream last night! Dreamt that my bump had this weird small thin bit where I could see through to the baby 😱 and I was worried about it splitting open but for some reason I couldn't get to the hospital for attention. Actually woke up thinking it was real!! Just chalking it up to another word dream as I have been getting loads of them!!

Frazzlerock · 17/08/2020 18:12

Oh my god @Sheera1 I'd be losing my shit! I hope you give them hell!
I don't know what is wrong with DPD lately. This morning they dropped off a couple of parcels. One for me and another I assumed was for DP.
When I finally looked at it it wasn't even addressed to us! It was for someone on the other side of the village, not our road not our door number nothing!
So the actual recipient received a photo of my doorway and my awful feet 😂 saying it had been delivered she put the photo in our local FB group asking who I am and can she have her parcel.
I was going to take it to her in my lunch break but I think she was panicking so DP drove it round ASAP.
He said she was really off with him like it was his fault.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 that is weird. I've had so many odd dreams in this preg.

@footprintsintheslow I've just had a look at that pram, it's really lovely. What a bargain!

I've just bought even more cloth nappies to try out. I feel like we're haemorrhaging money at the mo and baby not even here yet 😬
