Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

Which monitors have you bought/are you buying?

I was getting seduced by the Bluebell with all its bells and whistles but I think it might be a gimmick.

So DP has been looking and has said the two Smart monitors he has seen recommended are the BT Smart and the Kodak Cherish.

Or we could go for one with a movement mat like Angelcare...?

We deffo want a video one but both of us are stumped now Confused

They ALL have their pros and cons.

Sheera1 · 13/08/2020 17:25

I went with the angelcare AC5327 I think it is. Video and movement. I got it at a decent price. £150. Aldi baby event has the model down from that for £130 I think and it pretty much does the same things. I think the handheld is a bit different.

I had just the plain angelcare mat and sound for ds and was really happy with it.

I loved the look of the Bluebell but can see me either not bothering with the stuff or getting crazy obsessed and it is so expensive. X

My next appointment is in 2 weeks (28 weeks along) for daycare to find out how to do the daily clexane jags 🤦‍♀️ sob! And the Midwife checkup a few days after.

When I think I am probably getting a section a week early I have 13 weeks left and probably only 11/12 work weeks!!

Frazzlerock · 13/08/2020 17:55

Yeah I'm tempted by the Angelcare, I'll check out that model.

Oooh sooo close now! I keep forgetting about having a section a week early!

I hope the clexane jabs aren't too awful. I've also got my next appointment at 28 weeks. I've a scan that week and midwife as well as blood test for my dumb thyroid.

New wheels arrived this afternoon! Just spent ages putting it together but it's finally done and I'm really pleased with it. Feels even better than the old versions I used to use years ago. They've made some great improvements.

How's everyone today? Had rain yet? We had a storm and heavy rain for a bit but it stopped after about 30/40 mins. We need more

Fab looking pram @Frazzlerock. I've left the husband in charge of pram, car seat and monitor... . We have an old bugaboo donkey that needs replacing. We had an angel care monitor with movement sensor the last few babies but as I've said before....we got rid of everything baby (except the pram) last time we moved. Husband works in IT and is a complete tech junkie! No doubt the monitor will have more bells and whistles than needed and probably will be able to teach them the kids French if I know him! 🤣🤣

In crochet news - the jellyfish/octopus is finished. Just deciding whether to finish the blanket I've found hard going or start something new....

Frazzlerock · 13/08/2020 20:39

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I LOVE that jellyfish! Gorgeous!!
Why is the current blanket hard going? I finished this the other day but wish I'd bought bigger buttons:

Ah another Angelcare user! We are completely monitor blind now. Every time we read reviews there's loads of bad reviews for all of them so we're like, just bloody pick anyone, they're all the same. But then look again and go "hmm.. what about this one, no people are moaning about it..." ahh it's such a minefield and they're not cheap so want to get it right.
Mumsnet reviews rate the BT smart and Yoomoov but reviews elsewhere say otherwise

I like the Angelcare video, then DP said his friend has one and he finds it annoying as it goes off when it shouldn't 🤷‍♀️
So much conflicting advice.

I guess I should trust someone who's had several babies eh @onlyreading! 😁 do you remember which model it was?

Sheera1 · 13/08/2020 21:32

LoVE the pram @Frazzlerock. Love the Octopus @onlyreadingneverposting8 and the wee hood blanket Frazzle.
So impressed.

Yes the reviews are really conflicting. I think there seemed to be some issues with some models which is why I went with the most recent one.

I never had any problems with the monitor going off wrongly. It did once and we raced up but DS in a huge cot was lying width ways at the very top of the cot along the board end and the mat just couldn't pick him up there and went off. Can't fault it as it did its job.

People say stupid things like "it is annoying to have to switch off the sensor when you pick your baby up or the alarm goes off". Well duh! If the sensor is kn and no baby in there it will alert no movement. That is what it does. You flick a switch before you pick baby up. Yes you need to remember to do that and we have all done it in the middle of the night but you have to tell it there is meant to be no movement.

The video looks pretty good tbh. I wonder if maybe it would be better getting the best movement monitor/sensor and a separate one with a camera. Maybe better spec using ones focussed on one or the other but who has the money 😁.

I think some of the models don't have talk back which tbh I never used before but thought I may as well get one this time.

They also moan there are no lullabies on the angelcare ut who doesn't have a mobile that has a tune if you need one. Some have too many bells and whistles. It is a safety device first and foremost.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 13/08/2020 21:36

@Frazzlerock wow! That's beautiful- what stitch is it made with? Dunno why I'm finding this one blanket hard going I just am...I've started a small animaguri rabbit instead! And the 3 year old and 8 yr old have ordered a lion and a dog off me!

Re the monitor...eeerrr not sure that last one was probably just one of the near top of the range ones. I was in charge so it won't have been top, top of the range but we've always had one with a movement pad. It gives me some peace of mind otherwise I can't sleep. Been that way since baby one - the affect of a very traumatic birth, where just before the emcs they couldn't find her heartbeat and she'd already had a slow heartbeat for 2hrs - the incompetent midwife did nothing and blamed the CTG machine....whilst not getting a different one (baby was fine thank god!) It was us demanding a c section that finally resulted in a doctor attending- who agreed an emcs was needed.

Frazzlerock · 13/08/2020 22:50

It was a mix between double and triple crochet @onlyreadingneverposting8 You do a double, then triple in next stitch, then skip a stitch and repeat.
I love that your DC are placing orders! 😂

Well we've gone completely maverick with the monitors and gone for a Vava something or other and after reading the Lullaby Trust website have gone for a Snuza Hero as well (for the peace of mind).
Angelcare was very nearly purchased though!
I'll let you know how we get on with those, probably both crap 😂

Bloody hell that does sound traumatic. So pleased all was well in the end but I can't imagine how you must have felt at the time 😢

@Sheera1 I agree with you re the lullabies. I didn't want them as they all sound a bit freaky! Don't need one on a monitor.

Frazzlerock · 13/08/2020 23:04

Just realised it wasn't completely maverick as @Sheera1 was the one who suggested maybe buying two different gadgets! Good call I think 😁

Viennoise · 14/08/2020 12:53

Hi all,

We’ve just had a scan at 17 weeks and we are definitely having a boy. He wasn’t interested in showing his face, too busy doing headstands. Everything seems fine so now he’s just got to keep on growing 👨‍👩‍👦

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 14/08/2020 13:30

Lovely news @Viennoise - ours kept hiding her face at both the anomaly scans I had (one private so my husband could be there). Both sonographers had me turning on my side and used the scanner probe to wobble her so they could check for the nasal bone and cleft lip etc 😬🤣

Frazzlerock · 14/08/2020 13:39

Lovely news @Viennoise! Such a relief isn't it

Realladymarmalade · 14/08/2020 14:03

Congrats viennoise
Another mum having a little boy here!

38 weeks and miserable. I have nothing good to say , other than jelly babies and milk appear to be good indigestion fodder.

And that no man should ever tell a n overheated pregnant woman in pain to calm down 🤣🤣🤣.I think hes learnt his lesson...do...not...mess !

dufferedup how are you ?
Wanna join my pity party?

Frazzlerock · 14/08/2020 15:36

Oh @Realladymarmalade your man is BRAVE! (assuming it was your DP and not a stranger!)

Yes to Jelly Babies and milk. I actually had a large pack of those this week after I finally went to Sainsburys with DP last week (not been since pre lockdown) so got to pick lots of naughty stuff Grin He does usually bring home lots of chocolate but when you're actually there you can really get stuck in can't you so I brought back so much crap!
I am loving milk too, nice and ice cold.

I'm 99% sure I will also be in the boy brigade. Lots of testosterone already in this house so what's one more lot? Grin

Anyone ready to give up work now? I've still got just under 14 weeks left but I'm so done now.

DufferedUp · 14/08/2020 16:30

I've just finished work! Had a lovely virtual goodbye with my team and they surprised me by one of them turning up in my garden with gifts. Very sweet of them.

Realladymarmalade - I'm in full on pity party mode already! Back to vomming daily, reflux keeping me up at night and a constant need to be eating something to stop the sicky feeling. No signs that anything is moving anytime soon either.

NaomiB79 · 14/08/2020 17:16

@Frazzlerock I hear you on the work front. I plan to finish up 10 weeks today and it can't come soon enough! No easing into it for me though we're coming up to a really busy time on the project I'm working on and they still haven't decided who is replacing me!

NaomiB79 · 14/08/2020 17:18

@DufferedUp how lovely of your team to do that, I really would like to see my team (for lunch or something) before I finish up just not sure it will be possible with all the Covid restrictions etc

WutheredOut · 14/08/2020 17:20

Hello
I’m just sneaking in
I’m 44 and I’ve found out that I am just over 4 weeks pregnant.
I have two DC 9 & 7 and thought I was menopausal 😳 my cycles are around 23 days - I only just realised I was 9 days late!
Ive had two mmc (pregnancies 1 & 4) so everything crossed this one will stick.
I’ve had a quick peruse of the thread but can anyone suggest to me when I need to see midwife as a slightly older hopeful mum to be and what to expect testing wise.
I literally only poas an hour ago so I’m still in a little bit of shock.

Ethellsmum · 14/08/2020 19:18

@WutheredOut congratulations, I also have
A 9 and 7 year old (along with a 17 & 15 year old plus a 4 week old). I had my booking appointment with the midwife at 10 weeks and had to ring the midwifery base at 7/8 weeks to book the appointment.

Baby girl is 4 weeks old today and we’ve finally been discharged from the midwife as baby is finally past her birth weight - she is now 6lb 15! So tiny compared to my others who were all 9lb+ at this age.

WutheredOut · 14/08/2020 20:11

@Ethellsmum thank you and Congratulations on your newest arrival 🥰

One of mine started at over 9lb - I’d be very grateful if this one was a little under that!

Realladymarmalade · 14/08/2020 20:21

Extends socially distanced pity hug to
duffered I hear ya!!!

Lovely of your colleagues ! We braved a lunch at an outdoor restaurant with just 3 close colleagues. It was amazing. I felt like I missed out on the :'normal' experiences of pregnancy being hermitted away at home , it was lovely to have a lunch & gifts .

Congrats wuthering!!! My DC are 6 and 9 , I'm 42. Good gap! I also thought perimenopausal and had all but given up.

Interesting thread someone saying that ttc now in a pandemic is crazy. I had to get on my soapbox. When time isnt on your side, or like some ladies here you have had extensive IVF the comments were a bit insensitive! I do think though that there are going to be drops in maternity care standards each time we have an outbreak.

footprintsintheslow · 14/08/2020 22:24

Welcome along @WutheredOut it seems to me each health board is different so maybe ring your GP this week and see what they want you to do regarding seeing a midwife.
I'm in Wales and I was seen face to face at 6 weeks.

Sheera1 · 14/08/2020 23:04

Oh man I feel about to burst tonight. So u comfy. Think ate a bigger dinner than I should have. Belly feels so stretched. Just here for a moan. That is all! 🥰

WutheredOut · 14/08/2020 23:17

Thank you @Realladymarmalade - it’s a Somewhat sizeable gap isn’t it but I’m so happy. This is totally an oops baby, we were on holiday and relaxed and I totally thought I was way past it!

@footprintsintheslow I think I just needed someone to say that, I recall not needing to see the midwife until ten weeks before but I was younger and fitter! So I’ll give the surgery a call on Monday. Thank you x

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 15/08/2020 07:51

Hello and congratulations @WutheredOut I'm also 44 (and a half now 😳). 25.5 weeks along.

@Sheera1 hope you're feeling a bit less full now! I've noticed that I can't eat very much in one go in the past 3 weeks. I didn't eat enough yesterday and ended up almost being sick again with nausea. Stress around eldest sons A level results hasn't helped either!!
