Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

Congratulations @stairgates!! How lovely!

I think we need a list update don't we?

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 11/08/2020 11:01

Many congratulations @stairgates

Not much to report here - sleeping is difficult and it's hot, hot, hot!! 🥵 I'm headachy, which I'm pretty sure is the heat - checked BP on decent home monitor (upper arm cuff as recommended) and it was fine. I feel worn out most of the time but at the same time bored...keep telling myself not to wish the pregnancy away....whilst wishing the pregnancy away and wanting it over!! 😬🤣

Frazzlerock · 11/08/2020 11:38

I'm the same as you @onlyreadingneverposting8 Just want to get to the end and meet our little one but as this is my last ever pregnancy I don't want to wish it away!
I LOVE the heat usually but its a bit too much now I think. I had a cool bath last night with Radox and bath salts which did help quite a lot. Baby enjoyed it too as he was wriggling around Grin

We just received our first trial batch of cloth nappies. Is it weird that I'm stupidly excited about this? Grin
I've thought of nothing else the past week or so and have been researching like a mad woman and even joined a group on FB. I may be bordering on obsessed actually Grin I just hope we get on with them!

Ooo @Frazzlerock I am also using reusables!!! Love those wraps with the foxes and the bees!! - so pretty!! I have the yellow totsbots giraffes on too. It's pretty addictive- I've used cloth in the past but fallen by the wayside due to life!

Will hopefully have some crochet to show by the end of tomorrow too - a large jellyfish - that the kids all say is an octopus! 🤣 Went to hobby craft at the weekend and bought quite a bit of yarn 🧶 - this is also addictive!! 🤣🤣

@Frazzlerock @onlyreadingneverposting8 we are a cloth family too. I say that but actually we are a naked family at the moment with the toddler getting a 50% success rate with the potty.

Frazzlerock · 11/08/2020 14:10

Oh brilliant @footprintsintheslow and @onlyreadingneverposting8 I don't feel quite so bonkers then! I get the feeling its going to be an expensive hobby, a bit like the crochet really...
I need to try and buy some random nappies second hand so I can find ones we like and then buy new maybe. Otherwise we could be in a lot of debt trying and testing! Although I know I can sell the ones that don't work for us.

Talking of the good old crochet. @onlyreading I copied you with the playmat. Accidentally went a bit bigger than yours and ended up using 5 and a bit balls of that yarn! So spent more money than I'd planned to but I do love it in the Omni Pop and really pleased with the result so thank you for the idea. I love the C2C stitch.

I'm now creating a baby hooded sleeping bag that I found on Lovecrafts. I'll post it when I'm done if its any good. I dread to think how much I've spent on yarn since my obsession began at the beginning of lockdown. Buying these items in shops would have been a lot cheaper!
My friends keep saying I should open up an Etsy shop but who wants to buy a playmat for over £60 with hours put in as well? I wouldn't.

AliasGrape · 11/08/2020 14:31

Congratulations @stairgates !

We have ‘eco friendly’ biodegradable nappies, wipes and bags from a company called beaming baby for now. I figured I’d get through the first few weeks with those as a compromise then get my head round cloth. The same company does cloth nappies too. Although I thought we’d somehow run out, ordered a load more, then found the massive stash I’d already ordered in the wardrobe.

Im a bit gutted that DH is going to register birth on his own tomorrow. I’d thought it would be something we’d do together but Covid restrictions say only one parent allowed if you’re married and therefore don’t need both of you there. Plus you can’t take the baby and we can’t leave her with anyone yet either - she’s not met anyone apart from the midwife anyway! There was no rush except we want to get it sorted before DH is back at work.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 11/08/2020 14:34

@footprintsintheslow naked family 🤣🤣 Think they all go through a stage where clothes become surplus to requirements- I never mind...cuts the washing down! 🤣🤣.

@Frazzlerock post a pic of your floor mat - would love to see it!

Frazzlerock · 11/08/2020 14:51

Oh @AliasGrape I can understand that. It IS disappointing you can't all go along Sad Make sure he knows the spellings of the names! Can you imagine? Grin
I'm going to have a look at that website you mentioned, we will probably do a mix of disposables and cloth to begin with while we get the hang of it so they sound great!

Frazzlerock · 11/08/2020 14:53

@onlyreadingneverposting8
Here it is
I was finishing it off in the blistering heat yesterday. That was not fun! 😂

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 11/08/2020 15:24

@Frazzlerock gorgeous! Love the border! Yes the yarn is really warm isn't it?!! Be great for the floor in Winter though.

@AliasGrape I usually send my husband alone to register the birth...can't be bothered with the trekking about with a young baby tbh! He did have to phone me once in front of the registrar to check the spelling of Marguerite (my grandmas name, which is one of the middle names for our girls). 🤣

Frazzlerock · 11/08/2020 15:29

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I think the border really sent me over in the yarn quantities too.
I would struggle with Marguerite too! Pretty name though!

AliasGrape · 11/08/2020 15:32

@Frazzlerock @onlyreadingneverposting8 I’ve written her full name out very clearly for him (he sniffed I know how to spell my OWN surname) but I told him best to be safe Grin

I think I had imagined doing that then going for lunch etc, wasn’t factoring Covid + c-section recovery + really very tiny baby into the picture when I was imagining it though. We still have loads of time but DH is the type that if he knows something needs doing at some point he’ll harp on and on until it’s done so easier to just let him go tomorrow. It’s really early too as they’re only doing very limited appointments- far rather him than me having to get ready and out for that time.

Sheera1 · 11/08/2020 16:45

Hello @onlyreadingneverposting8 and @frazzlerock. Think we are at a boring bit of pregnancy. Are either of you thinking of shielding sort of from 28 weeks?

I am in Scotland and not so hot here which is good. My house is 1 and a half storeys so bedrooms in the roof and it can get so hot. I have a fan on and it is 21 degrees where which is super for Scotland 😁.

Just reading the birth registers. We should have been married but aren't due to Covid so do we both have to be there to register the birth? I plan on going nowhere after my section for a good few weeks.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 11/08/2020 17:56

@Sheera1 heck...hadn't really thought about it! I've got a scan and hospital antenatal at 28weeks so I think I'll ask the doctor what the current thinking is. Seriously thinking about whether I should ask for a c section....I've had one emcs and I have avoided one since then but it's been pretty close to needing another emcs on a couple of occasions since. I'm worried I'm not going to cope well/push well and I've got loads of varicose veins down "there" now, which apparently can be a bleeding risk if you tear...second thought was to immediately ask for an epidural but I'm frightened of them as it was after having the epidural with my first that everything went pear shaped so I've refused to have one since...I know what the doctors will say...almost hope that baby decides a transverse or breech position is her preferred option and takes the decision out of my hands!!! 😬

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 11/08/2020 17:58

@Sheera1 oh for 21 degrees! It's 33 here and 29 in the downstairs of the house 🥵 We are 3 storey and the girls bedroom was 32 last night!

AliasGrape · 11/08/2020 18:30

@Sheera1 Maybe different in Scotland but here you have 42 days to register (this has been extended due to Covid though) and if you’re married then just one parent can do it (and in our city they’re saying only one parent allowed in this case) but if not married then the mother has to go and the father has to be there if you want him on the certificate. Which is a bit of a ball ache but you don’t have to do it for a good few weeks. We’re only doing it early because like I say DH gets a bee in his bonnet. Plus I want the birth certificate to register her (and me) with a local GP as I’m currently really out of area as I liked my old GP and my sister worked there. They won’t let me stay on with the baby though in case she needs home visits etc.

footprintsintheslow · 11/08/2020 18:46

It's been 36 degrees here in South Wales, it's still 26 here now. I've also had the oven on baking gingerbread men with the toddler and the dehydrator going all day as I found a bag of near dead onions. It's been hell here in the heat.

Not sure I can stomach crocheting but I do love those c2c blankets. It would have to go in the queue as I have a hat and two blankets to make to other people first.

Frazzlerock · 11/08/2020 21:04

@Sheera1 yeah it is the boring bit isn't it. I've been pretty much shielding since day one so no change for me from 28 weeks.

DP and I are getting worried about him not being able to visit when the baby is born. We especially liked the hospital we chose as it has private rooms and partners are often allowed to bring an air bed and stay over. But it's not looking likely now 😢 I just feel so shit for him. He's missed so much already.

I'm also getting worried about BFing because of my hypoplasia and IGT. My two boys practically starved while I was so determined to give them something I just didn't have. I'm reading Making More Milk and as I've said before, I've a great lactation consultant, but I'm just worried no matter what I do/don't do, it won't make a difference l. I honestly hate my crappy body and what PCOS has done to it and all the trauma it's caused over the years.

Maybe I'm just being hormonal. But fuck me I'm fed up with it all. I've spent my entire adult life trying for babies (and mostly failing) battling with excess hair (no laser will ever be able to fight) weight, and shit for boobs. Almost looking forward to the menopause so I can put it all behind me.

Stupid hormones 😂 Probably the heat too making me grumpy.

I've no idea how hot it is in this house. But we have three storeys and the whole house is an oven, even with ALL windows open. I'd say it's about a bazillion degrees, or thereabouts.

MOAN MOAN MOAN 😂

Realladymarmalade · 11/08/2020 22:09

18 degrees today in Dundee . Currently biblical downpours and thunder storms. Its lush ..just hope it stops before the morning when school resumes 🙏🙏🙏.

Stay cool ladies! X

Realladymarmalade · 11/08/2020 22:13

stairgates congrats!

My dad spelt my name wrong at my birth registration. So it's one way on some official documents but as far as I am concerned it's another way* the true way- on my banking , employment, daily use. Its caused a ballache every credit check . Yes important to be 1000% sure !

footprintsintheslow · 12/08/2020 16:53

Top tip for us pregnant mams:
Buy a cheap small paddling pool now (you will need it this time next year anyway for the baby). I know this sounds daft but I didn't realise how cool you get from dunking your feet I'm cold water.

NaomiB79 · 12/08/2020 17:58

@footprintsintheslow good idea! I bought a spare basin a week ago and have been using that at night to put my feet in cold water to try and reduce the swelling but it does also help with reducing my overall temperature.

Frazzlerock · 13/08/2020 07:51

@footprintsintheslow I put our paddling pool out several days ago and have been paddling in it everyday. It really is lovely! Although it is looking quite sad now with its slow puncture and several bugs floating in it Grin
Need to buy a new one I think.

Where is the rain!!?? We have just had a small drizzle, I was expecting biblical storms Hmm

I am very excited today as our pram is being delivered! I've had it on the baby list for 4.5 years and every time I get pregnant I look at it online and look forward to taking our little one out in it, so I can't quite believe we're finally going to be able to put our baby in it this time Shock Just seems like one of many huge milestones.

Also have the midwife this morning for a check up and a listen to the heartbeat.
