Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

@AliasGrape I'm just an incredibly inpatient person who's had to learn to be patient! 🤣🤣 married to someone even less patient than me! When I was induced with my 6th I left my husband at home until I was in established labour because he's a pain asking me whether I'm in pain yet and can I get on with it (in a jokey way). That time he only just made it though - arriving 20 minutes before she was born! God knows what he'd do if I had a really long labour though. The longest he's had to do is about 5.5 hours!

Countingblessings · 28/07/2020 21:06

Oh @AliasGrape so excited for you!! How are you doing? Any twinges? I get the hospital anxiety thing although I've not experienced anything like you have. You're a strong mama. I'm just a born worrier Blush

Thanks all for your advice on movements. Reassuring to hear folk experiencing similar concerns. Definitely think I felt little thumps today so I'll try hold off for my scan next week. I feel so huge and uncomfy for only being 19 weeks. Dreading what state I'll be in by 39!

Look forward to hearing your news @AliasGrape. Keep us posted!!

Sheera1 · 28/07/2020 22:17

@countingblessings I was really freaking out about movements the last two days. I am on holiday but still in Scotland and started to consider going for a listen. They seemed very infrequent and very light. Today though I have been thumped loads and really high up on my bump now above my belly button. I think I have just been busy or mayne just moved somewhere I couldn't feel. It is a scary time. X

Sheera1 · 28/07/2020 22:19

Also meant to say Aldi have a baby event just starting. Can't work out if the prices were good and can't be bothered checking. Was up for some cellular nlblankets and muslins but no clue if they are cheap or just a nornalish online price. Will google tomorrow.

fool11 · 29/07/2020 07:07

Thanks @Sheera1...one boy told her that she will get £20 if her tooth come out..some parents have more money than brain..I can do £2, might push it to £5 for the first tooth 😬..

I had severe headaches during this pregnancy around week 27&27, so bad I had to lie down , couldn’t even sit up..told my consultant, they did usual check ups and said I’m all good 😬..I ha bf Eva very low blood pressure (like 70/46 etc) so I think when it drops even more I feel weak and get headaches..

How are yuh doing @AliasGrape? Hope all is well .

fool11 · 29/07/2020 07:18

How are you doing @PregnantPorcupine? Your official due date is today, isn’t it?

Realladymarmalade · 29/07/2020 10:07

Hello ladies

aliasgrape I'm thinking of you !

I love to hear good induction stories fool. I was told a balloon and not a pessary when I get mine in one month today! Think if rather a pessary.

pregnant porcupine
Happy due date ! Going to look at those blackout blinds ..

sheera in heading up to Tesco's today gir kids school uniform and baby gear and will relay if there is any good baby stuff..

I had my feet paraffin wax pedi yesterday..also brows and a shellac manicure..I feel like a new woman. Just the hair on Friday for me then a couple of lunches before I revisit hibernation..Liking this lifestyle but I've bloody earned it.

Will be watching this thread for our two new mammas to be xxx

Realladymarmalade · 29/07/2020 10:10

Clarke1 congrats on the boy!
Also team blue here. My second son, also have a daughter.

Who else is having a boy ? Name choices?

I still love Zachary but have also fallen in love with Roman. Hos surname begins with R ..I don't think it's an issue but my DP is unsure but other than that loves the name. But think itll be baby Z tbh.

Sheera1 · 29/07/2020 11:54

I love the name Zachary. I love Harrison and Harvey but both names are out because DP's sort of estranged dad is called Harry and his boss also just called his son Harvey.

I also like Alexander, Nathaniel (Nate), Elliott, Roran. DP has vetoed all but Alexander lol.

I think we have settled on Adyn if it is a boy.

DP felt baby kicks for the first time today. Normally he puts his hand on and it stops but we were listening to KISS and he felt 4 big thumps in a row so he was really pleased.😊

PregnantPorcupine · 29/07/2020 12:21

Hi all, yeah, due date today and... nothing. No twinges/cramps/backache..think my bump might have dropped at last but I don't think that really means anything. Not too stressed yet.. keep telling myself that the date is just an estimate and I was 2 weeks late myself.

I really like Zachary.. Also think that alliterative names can be quite cool though. If we go with our top choice of Cora, and if DP and I ever marry, ours will have initials CC. Both big ifs of course 😂

Also really like Adyn and Alexander!

What's a paraffin wax pedi @Realladymarmalade?

Hope all is going well @AliasGrape!

Frazzlerock · 29/07/2020 15:31

Hey all,

Sorry for radio silence. Work seems to have become busy lately. Bloody work getting in the way of my social life! So rude.

Ooh @AliasGrape this is very exciting, Can't wait for updates!

Re name choices (@Sheera1 absolutely use Emi if you like it I'm not precious with names at all! It's very pretty Grin)
I still really love Seth for a boy and kind of have my heart set on it if I'm honest. DP doesn't seem averse to it either. Seth has a bit of a coincidental meaning too. He was the third child born after Cain and Able as a replacement for one of them who died (or something) - not that this little one will ever be a replacement for our lost babies but almost seems right, you know? We are very much atheists though so not sure how much attention we should pay to that!
DP did mention Rowan a couple of weeks ago. So maybe Seth Rowan...

I have always love Jago but I don't like 'jay' for short. Other boys names on my list are:
Rufus
Gabriel
Jasper
Bear
Guy (which means 'warrior' so pretty fitting for this one really)
Rafferty - which I LOVE but DP thinks is highly pretentious Grin
Rocco
Xander
Reuben
Theo

Ahh @sheera1 how lovely your DP got to feel baby kick! And funny after listening to KISS Grin That's awesome! How do you pronounce Adyn? Is it A-dyn or Ay-dyn?

I managed to film my tummy jumping around just after the big thunderstorm we had on Monday morning. It's like Alien!

Better get back to work. sigh...

fool11 · 29/07/2020 16:05

I didn’t need an induction @Realladymarmalade...I had a sweep with my first and she was born next day and now I had a sweep again at 38w and it worked too..when I had a sweep I was already 3.5cm dilated so balloon wS out of question..it would fall out I was told 😬, and it was too late for pessary too..they apparently do ballon for first time Mums and also for those had had c section previously.
I felt brave today to give him a bath and he did a poo in the bath and then in the towel too 😭...joys of newborn..but so cute I don’t mind extra work..
My belly is still quite big my nephew asked if there is another baby! 😂

AliasGrape · 29/07/2020 16:29

Thanks for good wishes everyone.

Well I started quite soon after we got home last night with pain/pressure in my lower back, into my bum and pelvis. Went to bed at 9 as shattered but it was too uncomfortable to sleep so I got up to pace the floor a bit and my waters went all over the new bedroom carpet! Phoned triage and the asked me to go in to be checked, which I did naively thinking popping a maternity
pad in my knickers would catch any drips. Bloody hell why doesn’t anyone tell you how much water there is? I flooded husbands car, created another puddle outside the hospital door and dripped my way down the corridors. My clothes were utterly soaked by the time I got to triage. Husband wasn’t allowed in with me and it was all quite stressful at that point I was soaking, embarrassed and really uncomfortable on the bed for monitoring. Anyway baby’s trace was fine but cervix still far back and closed so they gave me the option of staying in or going home and I just wanted to get home and clean and dry at that point.

They asked me to go back to ward at 1.30.
So we did today after a night of on off contractions but nothing that wasn’t manageable (not possible to sleep through them but otherwise bearable). Got there today and they didn’t have a bed and said I might as well go home again till 11. So here I am.

So much for being so dangerously ancient I’d need an inpatient induction and constant monitoring Grin I’m not complaining though, happier at home for now. Had enough of the going and froing but determined that next
trip in I won’t be coming home again without my baby!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 29/07/2020 17:05

@AliasGrape annoying with the forwards and backwards to the hospital but it sounds like you're going to do this without too much forcing! Lots of walking and I'll bet that baby will be out in no time!

footprintsintheslow · 29/07/2020 18:50

@AliasGrape how very exciting!

Frazzlerock · 30/07/2020 08:47

Oh @AliasGrape that sounds annoying! Are things progressing now? Any news?

How is everyone else today?

Baby kicked so hard last night he/she almost threw DP's hand off! I'd not had much movement at all yesterday afternoon/evening but he/she decided to to practice some MMA by late evening to make up for it.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 30/07/2020 09:57

Morning! Not too bad here - it's my 20th wedding anniversary today...I'm being taken out somewhere that's a mystery. Not sure we will get a meal out - mainly because I'm still only able to bland/beige non tasting food! I'm able to tolerate chocolate now though so at least that's something! Nausea - like with my other girls seems here to stay for the duration 🙄.

I'll have a couple of crochet makes to show later - a little short sleeved cardi and a floor blanket/mat for the baby.

Frazzlerock · 30/07/2020 12:21

Congrats to you @onlyreadingneverposting8! I'm glad you have the taste for choc back, very important! Grin

I'm looking forward to seeing your latest crochet projects. I'm almost finished making the spotty baby blanket and also made 4 pairs of socks but I feel we'll need lots more as they always lose them don't they. I'm planning on making a mustard yellow cardi once this blanket is completed.
What else can I make!?

Sheera1 · 30/07/2020 13:10

@AliasGrape 😂😂😂 you had me o the floor with your post about your waters breaking. They broke mine with ds and I swear it was like someone had failed a huge bucket of warm water and poured it over me. It was immense. I had a wee gush up in the ward and thought that was it. Lol.

Hope you are doing ok and the night went ok. I reckon you will be back in hospital now. They were funny with me an I fections once my waters went slightly and I had to be in labour suite from then on. Times have changed. I think being home is def more comfortable as long as not too far away from the hospital. Shame about the new carpet and the car though 😁.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 congrats on the anniversary and yay on the chocolate. Hope nausea keeps away for you.

@Frazzlerock that is fab on the big kicks. Need to get DS to try and feel mine today.

@fool11 tee hee on the poo. I remember being in the bath with ds and he had an explosive poo and I was sitting in it holding DS out of the water yelling for my husband at the time. So so funny and gross. Glad things are going well. It is getting closer for me and exciting and scary too!

Sheera1 · 30/07/2020 13:14

@Frazzlerock loving your boys names. I like Alexander but would shorten to Xander. Thank you for the Emi steal. If it is a girl that is the name for us. DP loves it too. Have never heard of it.

I was pronouncing it A-din. But I quite like Ay-din too! There is def something about a slightly different spelling that appeals me to a name. Aiden is nice but for some reason when spelled Adyn, I love it! Same with Katelyn. I don't like Caitlin as much even though said the same.😂

NaomiB79 · 30/07/2020 21:36

@Sheera1 my cousin just had a baby girl called Emmie, same name I think just a different way of spelling it. I hadn't heard of it either but it is a lovely name x

AliasGrape · 31/07/2020 04:49

Hello everyone, writing this from my hospital bed after having our little girl!!!

She was born by emergency c-section in the end, at 5.25 yesterday weighing 7lbs 1.

Despite all my work/efforts on having a positive birth experience it was quite dramatic and a bit traumatic too in the end. I’m not sure how I feel about it to be honest, there’s a bit to work through and I might see if there’s someone I can have a bit of a debrief with before I leave hospital. But then again we received sick kindness and care from most of the midwives and doctors and she’s here and safe so it’s hard to be anything but elated right now. (And delirious with tiredness probably, not slept in days and feel like my body has forgotten how - hence updating here now instead of being asleep whilst she is!

We’re calling her Iris I think.

OP posts:
AliasGrape · 31/07/2020 04:50

*such kindness that should read.

OP posts:
Realladymarmalade · 31/07/2020 07:16

Omg Aliasgrape I am so utterly thrilled for you !!!!!! Love the name Iris too. Unusual and pretty. Well done!!! Such a huge a achievement, childbirth itself and it takes a while for the adrenaline to settle. You are both safe and healthy , but having had a difficult and lengthy first birth I hear what you are saying & give yourself time to process . I hope you can rest while you can. I also remember being too exhausted but wired to sleep.

Well done ! :)

PregnantPorcupine · 31/07/2020 07:40

Oh congratulations Alias! Well done! Fantastic to hear that she's here and you're both safe, and a beautiful name xxxx

Sounds like a good idea to have a debrief before you leave, and/or maybe schedule something in for a while later when you're more able to process what has happened. And of course you can chat about anything on here xxxx
