@LadyB90 yep, definitely prepping us for sleep deprivation I think! 😩

@SamK93 I am really craving takeaway coffees but I switched to decaf when trying to conceive and haven't gone back. I eat tons of chocolate though which also has caffeine in it, so don't worry too much as you're allowed up to 200mg per day which I think is two strong cups. Plus it's only really the first trimester it's an issue!

Do I remember someone recently saying they had to get loads of Chinese takeaway?! I have randomly had to order some duck and rice tonight and I never crave Chinese 😂

DressingGown87 · 07/07/2020 19:27

@SamK93 I drink 2 cups of coffee a day and decaf in between. Without it I would be a nightmare to live with (myself) 😂. Midwife says 2 cups is fine. I would love a Starbucks Latte 😢

@Freddie1987 I’m the chinese culprit! I’ve had two in the space of a week! Would love duck and rice right now. It’s weird what we are drawn to. I really want a fillet steak with peppercorn sauce cooked by someone.

Is anyone else getting funny flutters in their ear? Like vibrations of the ear drum intermittently. I Dr Googled it, and it’s says it can be caused by a hormone surge. Started my Antental classes today, doing it over 12 weeks in small sections. Today it was going through my birth options, to discuss with my consultant Thursday.

There's going to be a news story at some point of someone labouring in a b&q isn't there ?
@SamK93

Jaffas22 · 07/07/2020 20:52

@DressingGown87 I’m having such issues with my ears!! I don’t know why but throughout my pregnancy I cannot stand my ear being on the pillow, my heads totally still but it’s as though I can feel a rustling and it keeps me awake. Iv tried changing the types of pillow and everything but it’s driving me insane!!

Danini · 07/07/2020 21:32

New to the thread, due 31st Oct Smile

DressingGown87 · 07/07/2020 21:36

@SamK93 it’s so true! Hopefully things will start to change.

@Jaffas22 from what I’ve seen it might be hormones and increased blood flow, rattling / vibrating the inner drum. It’s irritating when trying to sleep, has been on and off now for a few weeks. Do you just get it when led down?

@DressingGown87 I keep getting times where one ear is blocked when I wake up and it takes ages for the pressure to right itself. I'm totally deaf in that ear when it happens and I've not heard my alarm a few times 🤣 thank goodness for working from home!!

@Danini welcome 😊

Freddie1987 · 07/07/2020 21:57

@DressingGown87 haha the cravings are so precise aren't they, you're making me want steak and peppercorn sauce now! 😆

I've also had the humming in my ears, have had it a lot through anxiety before though so kind of used to it. Sometimes it's helpful to listen to white noise or a sleep meditation before bed if it's distracting you.

Which antenatal classes are you going for? I'm trying to work out what classes might be good online without paying for NCT. Nothing against it, but don't think it's for me as I feel like you can get all the info much cheaper elsewhere and by reading, then make friends through mums and babies groups etc. Am I being silly?! It's hard to know how much guidance you actually need to pay for and how much you can learn for free...

Freddie1987 · 07/07/2020 21:58

@Danini ahhhh welcome and congrats! ☺️

Danini · 07/07/2020 22:19

@Freddie1987 @SJR86 Thank you! Smile

Mc3209 · 07/07/2020 22:36

@Freddie1987 I've decided not to do NCT. But I've got lots of colleagues who are pregnant at the moment (5 from my department - there is a running joke that pregnancy is more contagious with us than coronavirus..).

@Danini welcome :) we have same due date. How are you keeping?

Danini · 07/07/2020 22:44

@Mc3209 Thanks Smile Oh that's cool! Doing fine so far, but feel slightly less supported than I thought I would be. Only had two phone calls with two different midwives, I guess it's due to Covid but still I feel a bit forgotten about. How are you doing?

Freddie1987 · 07/07/2020 23:30

@Mc3209 oh really, are you doing anything instead? Hah, it's the same at my work! 5 people on mat leave already then me! 😆plus pretty much everyone is having boys. It's weird.

@Danini I feel exactly the same to be honest, two different midwives. Think the continuity of care idea has gone out the window this year for most trusts...have you got your 25 week appointment booked in? X

Mc3209 · 07/07/2020 23:33

@Danini it's a weird thing being pregnant during a pandemic. If the pregnancy is uncomplicated there is not much happening usually appointment-wise, other than scans, until later on I guess.
Yesterday I actually ended up going in with reduced movement. The kid very quiet all afternoon and wasn't doing his usual kicking and wriggling, so I called the triage mainly for reassurance and they saw me for a Doppler (of course the little beast started kicking the moment they put the probe on the belly, all was fine). It was good to know that if there is a problem/suspected problem you will be seen.
Is it your first?

Mc3209 · 07/07/2020 23:42

@Freddie1987 I am not too bothered about antenatal classes to be honest. I know I want to give birth in a hospital, and I am game for whatever gets the baby out safely. I am hoping lactation team will help out with any breastfeeding issues afterwards. One thing I would recommend is paediatric CPR, that's probably the scariest thing a parent can face and it's good to know what to do in those situations. I am sure there are courses on that around that don't cost an arm and a leg.

DressingGown87 · 08/07/2020 08:54

@Danini congratulations and welcome.

@SJR86 that sounds irritating, wonder what could be causing it. At least your getting a little bit extra in bed because of it’s

@Freddie1987 I’ve hardly any appetite, but then I think of something and that’s all I want. I get my ear flutters during the day too, when I’m working, cleaning. They just start randomly, will try some white noise. Hope the chinese was good!

I’m doing my Antental courses with the Health Visitor, Midwife, and a lady from the perinatal team . With my MH I struggle to decision make, as I question if I’m doing it right (all the time), simple things like did I leave my handbrake on in the car (it’s automatic handbrake) I have to check. Lock the doors twice. It’s like I’m getting OCD with my anxiety, which in turn is making me loose confidence. So the course is just trying to build that up, and letting me build knowledge so I feel confident to make decisions on my own. But every baby is different, and there is only so much these courses can teach you, I suppose like with most things in life you learn on the job.

@Mc3209 aww glad your ok and baby is still kicking away, and good that you got seen. Is it down to position? I think it’s always good to get checked if your worried. The movements back to normal now?

Mc3209 · 08/07/2020 09:43

@DressingGown87 all back to normal now, he was probably in a weird position. Was impressed at how well oiled the triage machine is! And midwives were lovely.

1990shopefulftm · 08/07/2020 09:52

I hadn't realised till I checked this morning, how long child benefit applications take, I d assumed it d only be a month of processing time not up to 3 months.

ChlOeWh · 08/07/2020 10:03

Hi ladies!

Call me thick but is this a thread for the women due in late October? ☺️ xx

Freddie1987 · 08/07/2020 10:09

@DressingGown87 Chinese was actually a little bit 'meh', oh well, on to the next craving! 😂

Ahh I totally get where you're coming from, funnily enough I've actually been getting online counselling for mild OCD that has developed this year (pandemic + anxiety anyone?!) and totally understand the decision making thing. It's great that you're getting such close support from the team, I keep thinking I need to tell my midwife about my treatment. You've spurred me on to do it at my appointment next week! I think you're totally right as well, there's only so much of a 'course' you can take on something as individual as raising a child...

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 08/07/2020 10:11

@Danini hi, I'm due on the same date too

1990shopefulftm · 08/07/2020 10:30

@ChlOeWh yes it is :)

ChlOeWh · 08/07/2020 10:31

@1990shopefulftm ah that's brilliant ☺️
I'm due 22nd October! Xx
