@FirstSurprise001 yay finally, I love the sofa!! It looks so good and fits so well, I don't blame you for nearly crying, enjoy a nice cuppa on it now 😂

1990shopefulftm · 06/07/2020 11:25

@SamK93 sorry that your friend was suffering for so long but glad her baby is safe.

@FirstSurprise001 that is a lovely sofa, hope you re going to have your feet put up on it.

Hit the 24 week mark today, finding it's taking me longer to get out of bed so I m looking forward to mat leave next month so I won't need to be up as early.

SamK93 · 06/07/2020 11:29

@1990shopefulftm thank you.

I'll be 24 weeks on Friday and totally share your pain, I start work 6.30 and finding it really hard now especially getting up to go to the toilet a couple of times a night and then not falling back to sleep, then to be up for 5.45 it really gets to me during the day. I start maternity 9th August and cannot wait!

1990shopefulftm · 06/07/2020 11:34

@SamK93 I ve been lucky in that I need to get up once a night at the moment, but it really throws you off getting back to sleep doesn't it.
Have you made any plans for maternity leave? All I m thinking at the moment is buying a few books and doing lots of baking.

FirstSurprise001 · 06/07/2020 11:55

@1990shopefulftm @SamK93 thank you! I’m so excited for a good movie night snuggled up 🥰

I’m super jealous of you both starting maternity leave next month! I’m 25 weeks on Wednesday and with you both on not getting much sleep. Never seem to get comfortable, not falling back to sleep after getting up to pee and feeling SO hot regardless of windows open/covers on.

SamK93 · 06/07/2020 11:59

@1990shopefulftm that's good, I haven't made any plans but I've got my 8 year old DD and 4 year old DS to keep me busy! I'm sure they'll be glad to have me home. I haven't even started getting bits for baby yet, so that will keep me busy. Also fingers crossed my mum can come, she lives in Glasgow I haven't seen her since Christmas.

1990shopefulftm · 06/07/2020 11:59

@FirstSurprise001 any luck with trying a pregnancy pillow and a fan at night?

1990shopefulftm · 06/07/2020 12:04

@SamK93 I d say we ve got 90% of things we wanted for baby so won't be needing to do much shopping on maternity leave. Hopefully you can have plenty of time with your family :)

FirstSurprise001 · 06/07/2020 12:13

@1990shopefulftm I have a pregnancy pillow but it’s so big and DP tends to just steal it half way through the night so 😂 I swear I wake up with him spooning it every night! We got a fan at the weekend so that’s helping a little 😁

Good book recommendation if you haven’t read it yet is Clemmie Hoopers ‘How to Grow a Baby and Push it out’ 🥰

1990shopefulftm · 06/07/2020 12:18

@FirstSurprise001 Amazon has these reasonably small pregnancy wedges, I ve found mine quite helpful, could be worth a try so your DH can't steal it.

I loved that book :)

KitKatKit · 06/07/2020 13:04

@SamK93 That's great news for your friend, poor lady having to go through all of that!

@FirstSurprise001 Your new sofa looks suuuper comfy! I have also been really uncomfortable at night, didn't sleep last night at all (and we're sleeping with a thin 3 tog blanket) and a fan on all night.

Has anybody else had a really runny nose/ congestion? I do get mild hay-fever but the last few days I feel like my nose is a tap, even during the night (which hasn't ever happened pre pregnancy).

@1990shopefulftm Ooh maternity leave starting early sounds fab Grin

1990shopefulftm · 06/07/2020 13:10

@KitKatKit have you tried a sterimar spray? It well I would describe it as burns a bit when you initially use it but it's helped my congestion a bit

Mc3209 · 06/07/2020 13:26

@FirstSurprise001 loving the sofa! Looks fab!

@KitKatKit yeah, I get randomly runny nose where it just starts running out of nowhere, and occasional stuffiness. I am blaming this on pregnancy rhinitis.

I am back at work with amended (now desk based) duties. One thing that really, REALLY bugs me is that everyone constantly commenting on my shape. I've been back for a few weeks now, so the novelty of 'ta daaa, here is me with a bump!' has worn off. However I can't walk down the corridor without someone (colleagues) commenting 'oh, you just keep growing!'. I know it comes from a good place and more often than not just a friendly small talk, but I am getting so fed up of it. I want to get my decaf instant coffee from staff room without having my physical appearance discussed. Every. Single. Day. It's getting soooo irritating. Cannot wait until 28 weeks so I can work from home again (provided the current policy doesn't change). I don't think I can carry on nodding and smiling for much longer 😩 but I don't want to offend people either. Anyone else facing the same issue?

DressingGown87 · 06/07/2020 13:47

@SamK93 glad your friend and baby girl are doing ok. I’m sleep with my duvet scrunched between my legs and under bump, means I can alter it to how hot am I. Could you possibly try a separate duvet?

@FirstSurprise001 Love the new sofa! Lots of tea breaks, movie nights and rest now.

@KitKatKit yes I feel bunged up first thing in the morning. I second the spray.

@Mc3209 that must be irritating every single day. What do they expect, your growing a baby. Hopefully it wears off soon, and you can get your coffee in peace. I’ve not really seen anyone for comment since I was 7/8weeks!

@1990shopefulftm and @DressingGown87 Thanks for the spray recommendations, I'm gonna hunt some down!

@Mc3209 Sorry to hear you're also struggling with this runny nose issue, but more annoying about your work colleagues! I don't think you're being unreasonable about the constant comments, I've been fortunate to still be WFH so nobody has seen me as I've grown, but it would drive me potty! I think people generally think that pregnant women's bodies are a free for all. All I can suggest is a nice deep breath and count down to the days you can WFH! Easier said than done, I know... Smile

GhostWorld · 07/07/2020 10:52

Is anyone else struggling with the not sleeping on your back concept? My body does just not agree with it and I wake up throughout the night on my back (or my DP wakes me up turning me over)! I've even got a pregnancy pillow and I just wake up on my back squeezed inbetween the two sides! Part of me thinks that if it was really bad my body wouldn't let me do it, but I could do with some reassurance, I feel quite anxious about it

LadyB90 · 07/07/2020 11:07

@GhostWorld
I'm exactly the same. Feel uncomfortable on my side so I think that's why I turn over onto my back whilst sleeping. I'd like to think that if it was dangerous to the baby it would make us feel sick and dizzy and we'd wake up and move. From what I've read you should try and fall asleep on your side as then you're most likely to spend the most time in this position and if we do wake up on our back just turn over. My pillow doesn't stop me either, I'm really struggling with finding a comfortable position atm!

SJR86 · 07/07/2020 11:44

@LadyB90 @GhostWorld I'm really struggling to sleep on my left side, just can't settle to sleep that way! I'm sleeping on my right most of the time.
Could you use a pillow or wedge next to the pregnancy pillow so you can't fully get onto your back, but still get the support or feeling like you're on your back?
It's ridiculous how used you get to sleeping in a certain position isn't it!
I think you're right though if you are starting to cut off the blood supply to a dangerous level you would wake up.

EmmaA96 · 07/07/2020 12:16

Agreed!! I’m trying my best to fall asleep on the left but I just don’t find it comfy, the more I try and make myself do it the less I actually can 😩

DressingGown87 · 07/07/2020 12:26

@sjr86 I sleep on my right side, but always have done. I don't think there is any harm either way.

I've no suggestions sorry, but like you said I'm sure if you was doing harm your body would tell you. Hope you both managed to get a decents night sleep soon.

Freddie1987 · 07/07/2020 13:19

I've been having these worries too, along with the 'will I squash baby if I'm over on my side too far' worry! I think the left is optimum but it doesn't mean that the right side is bad at all, so if that's comfy then stick with it and try not to get overly anxious about sleeping in the perfect position. I've definitely woken up a lot on my back and quickly rolled on my side, but I've read that it's only dangerous if it's for most of the night - which it won't be with us being so vigilant! One thing I've found helpful is using a few pillows to sleep more upright. It's only when you're flat on your back that the weight of your growing belly could constrict the vena cava artery so if you're back is more elevated it takes off the pressure.

LadyB90 · 07/07/2020 13:49

@Freddie1987
I have the same will I squash the baby too far on the side worry as well! It's so hard isn't it and affects sleep cause I wake up in a panic so much. I guess it might be a long time before we get a good night's sleep again haha.

SamK93 · 07/07/2020 17:19

I start on my left side, end up on my right and then when I wake up in the middle of the night I'm on my back! My sides start hurting a lot at night so I just use two pillows instead under my head and sit them up a bit and sleep on my back so I'm not totally flat on my back I'm a bit higher at the top.

SamK93 · 07/07/2020 17:21

Any of you ladies coffee drinkers? I've cut down really i used to have 2/3 a day before pregnancy because of my early mornings and really long days. I've cut down to just the one in the morning before work, don't drink it on the weekend. I always feel guilty about it though even though I know we're allowed at least 2 cups a day.

Mc3209 · 07/07/2020 18:19

@SamK93 Before pregnancy couldn't live without coffee, would usually average to 3-4 cups per day. I've gone completely cold turkey since getting pregnant though (it was mainly first trimester anxiety and then I just carried on without it). I am getting by on instant decaf coffee, but I do have occasional Coke.

In Canada, you are allowed up to 300mg of caffeine methinks, so one cup of coffee is absolutely fine.
