For those buying a travel system - are you bothering to buy a foot muff straight away or waiting a few months?

I’ve been thinking about it and the baby is likely to either be in the carry cot or car seat until 3/4months. Which puts us to January/February - do you think I’m tempting fate by waiting until then to buy one?

Same with a parasol...

1990shopefulftm · 29/06/2020 14:04

@FirstSurprise001 the one we've bought comes with a foot muff, it's got a decent hood so thinking we ll hold off on a parasol for now

DressingGown87 · 29/06/2020 14:13

@roarfeckingroar I’m sure we will be waddling and waffling soon 😂

@SamK93 I think it’s dependant on trusts and risk factors. My dad and grandparents are diabetic so I’m due to have it. But my friend in another trust, has no risk factors and had to have it with her second.

@1990shopefulftm hope you find something that helps your wrists.

@FirstSurprise001 I’ve got the Uppababy and it has a built in sun shade. But I’m getting a foot muff as I plan on using the pushchair side of it for a few years, and in the north it’s cold most of the time 😂

Is anyone waking up in the night at a set time each night? Mine is 3am, and I struggle to get back to sleep, and then If do it’s 7am (Max) that I can sleep until. Wondering if this is my body preparing me for a 3am feed.

@DressingGown87 I'm with you with the 3/4am wake up...every night for about a week!

Freddie1987 · 29/06/2020 18:04

@DressingGown87 yep same! About 3:30/4am most nights. I'm pretty sure it's hormones but also nature's clever way of preparing us 😳

HanPanPeg · 29/06/2020 18:11

Loads of weird dreams here and struggling to stay asleep later than 6am 😩

Mc3209 · 29/06/2020 18:49

Pretty much every night it's a off-the-wall dreams night, but I do manage to stay asleep lately until alarm clock goes off.

Daft question about reusable nappies - where do you keep the dirty ones until laundry time? I would imagine it's a stinky business until the wash..

Flora20 · 29/06/2020 19:24

@roarfeckingroar Waffles... I've got a waffle iron somewhere, really need to dig it out now! Thanks 😂

@DressingGown87 I wake up about 3/4 then stay awake until just before 6, when my toddler wakes up. Having said that I've had full blown insomnia for years so I'm used to it! Definitely helps to prepare for baby though...

@Mc3209 Nope - get a couple of large wet bags, ours hold about 3 days worth of nappies. Had a bucket to begin with but that took up more space and did cause a slight smell - sweaty plastic I guess! There's no smell at all with a bag. Ours is just in our bathroom x

DressingGown87 · 29/06/2020 20:50

Glad it’s not just me, can always rely on you ladies for making me feel normal It must be a surge in hormones, as it’s only started a week ago, like you @SJR86. But also think it’s our bodies preparing @Freddie1987. I just love my sleep! Fell asleep after lunch today, my boss called and woke me up and I was so lost with day / time. 🙈

Mc3209 · 29/06/2020 21:50

@Flora20 thank you for further demystifying the reusable nappies!

1990shopefulftm · 30/06/2020 08:37

got my 25 week appointment booked in at 26 weeks as the week before is fully booked.

I think i would then be able to have one at 28 weeks if they've got the availability but that doesn't seem like much of a gap, do they do bloods or any other tests apart from bp and urine at that point?

DressingGown87 · 30/06/2020 09:18

@1990shopefulftm from what they have said they do blood tests for iron etc, at 28weeks. Offer the vitamin d, iron, etc if required or if there are any other risk factors. Measure the bump and check the baby’s position, so they can start the chart. Urine and BP. Glad you got your appointment booked in.

1990shopefulftm · 30/06/2020 09:22

@DressingGown87 in that case hopefully I can have the 28 week one on time (the midwife does one afternoon a week at my surgery and it's not a small one) , my iron levels were very good when I last had them checked but I ve had a vit D deficency before so it d be ideal if they could get that checked.

FirstSurprise001 · 30/06/2020 10:29

Argh my bump is so itchy this week/today!! Anyone else suffering? I’m guessing he’s just having a growth spurt...

roarfeckingroar · 30/06/2020 12:35

@FirstSurprise001 I haven't had the itchiness yet Are you moisturising every day? That should help.

I have another day of glamorous pregnancy symptoms; I can't work out whether I've pulled muscles across my groin doing yoga birth squats or whether my hips are just saying "nah, sorry mate, no more long walks for you". I'm also really nauseous and have my Whooping Cough jab this afternoon to look forward to. And work is mental. I've replaced wine wine wine with whine whine whine.

SamK93 · 30/06/2020 13:02

@FirstSurprise001 I've been itchy this week too, Palmers Cocoa Butter is the only thing that helps me.

I went and had the NIPT test done today, just going to try my best not to worry for two weeks until I get the results.

FirstSurprise001 · 30/06/2020 13:12

@roarfeckingroar moisturising twice a day at the moment and it’s not helping! Good luck with the whooping cough jab this afternoon, other than a dead arm for 2/3 days I didn’t have any other side effects so hope you don’t either!

@SamK93 I’m using the Palmers Strech Mark moisturisers which seems good. Amazing how many bottles of different moisturisers and oils I’ve got through so far 😂 Everything crossed for the results of the NIPT being good for you 🥰

WaveStreet · 30/06/2020 13:51

I've been so busy lately haven't had much of a chance to post! Been reading and keeping up with everyone though, @SamK93 glad for your own peace of mind it'll hopefully help to know the results so you can prepare for whatever the outcome is, i find the unknown more worrying - thinking of you.

I notice i get itchy before a bump growth spurt but i am liking the palmers stretch mark cream, using it at least once a day and think i will buy some bio oil to use as well.

We've been looking for a travel system lately, i have no idea what to buy. I think its coming down to whether we go for something that has the potential for carrying 2 children in case we end up having another close together. I know what will happen, if we future-proof I'm worried I'll be stuck with a heavy travel system and not need it for two but if we buy a single we'll end up having a second surprise 🙈🤯 I'm such an overthinker!

parks11 · 30/06/2020 14:56

@WaveStreet 😆 I know what you mean, I think we are going to try and have another child straight after if everything is ok this time. However, I have bought a one child travel system as I thought I might jinx it if I bought a double-I know illogical 🙈😂

I wondered if anyone had hay fever at the moment and what if any medication they are taking? I am suffering badly, and the pharmacist doesn't want to give me anything because of the pregnancy x

1990shopefulftm · 30/06/2020 15:24

@parks11 I m using a sterimar spray, you can use certain antihistamines in pregnancy according to NHS advice (loratadine and chlorphenamine if I remember correctly) but pharmacy's won't be comfortable selling them as their not licensed and I m not sure there's many studies that have been done to show the effects of them on pregnant people whereas you might get them on prescription.

WaveStreet · 30/06/2020 15:26

@parks11 no I'm totally the same! Especially as this one took 15 months to conceive it could go either way.

My midwife said piriton was fine to take but sent DH to the chemist to get it and they wouldn't sell it to him if it was for me, so he went to another and said it was for him. I use eye drops and if its really really bad I'll have a squirt of Beconase just to ease it.

DressingGown87 · 30/06/2020 16:38

@roarfeckingroar Hope your jab went ok, and you feel ok afterwards. I'm the same, sometimes I get twinges and aches, and can't decide if its stretching or my body going 'stop doing this.'

@parks11 I also use the sterimar spray, they gave it me on prescription.

@WaveStreet I was like that with gaviscon, MW told me to take it and pharmacist was like NO! I have bought the uppababy travel system, which can be used for two. However I don't foresee me having another, but thought it would hold its value better than the MP Ocarro, with it being adaptable.

I use a combination of the Palmers and Bio Oil, everyday after my shower. But going to increase to two application daily from 28 weeks. Stupid question, but where do you all put it? I do my boobs and bump, but is there anywhere else?

Also does anyone else have a name? and talk to bump using the name? I don't talk in the daytime (live alone, everyone at work) they've told me to start talking to bump, and using her name. But I'm scared my neighbours are going to think I've cracked up / go off her name. (Over thinking)

@DressingGown87
Boobs, bump, hips and bottom!

Mc3209 · 30/06/2020 17:52

@DressingGown87 well, I am using BioOil on my boobs, bum, and hips. I have another cream for my legs/arms/back which is rapidly absorbent (I don't like putting BioOil on places I don't have to) and for the belly I use Secret Saviours creams (gel in the morning and cream at night). Sounds a bit insane, but I got used to doing it this way now 😂

I play music to the bump every evening (earphones on the bump style) and when I don't feel lazy I play a bit of piano, but that's more for myself, the beastie is an involuntary audience. Need to start talking to the belly, but didn't quite get around to it yet.

FirstSurprise001 · 30/06/2020 18:12

@DressingGown87 yeah boobs, bump, hips and bump. I read somewhere to do the tops of your legs too. I already have stretch marks on the tops of my legs from dieting when I was younger so hoping it’ll help them fade a little!

I wouldn’t worry what your neighbours think! I talk to the bump all day every day when home alone, to the point I was explaining on a dog walk last week what we’re going to do when we get home and had a woman look at me like I was crazy 😂
