SammySN · 27/06/2020 16:10

Hi everyone, not been on here for a while, hope everyone is OK. Just wondering what people have bought for baby already? This is the first time I've had to do this and it's such a minefield! I don't even know where to start! Any tips on how to compile a list?

Chl00 · 27/06/2020 16:23

Hi guys haven’t commented on here in a while, I’m 22wks and nearly bought everything already.. have I gone overboard or are some of you as crazy as me😅😂

1990shopefulftm · 27/06/2020 16:53

@Chl00 we've got nearly everything already, its just small bits left now.

Mc3209 · 27/06/2020 17:11

I am about half way through baby shopping.
@SammySN perhaps break it down into sections: feeding, clothing, transport, sleeping and take it from there.

DressingGown87 · 27/06/2020 17:29

I’m would say I’m 50% done, got most of the larger items. But they are on long delivery so won’t arrive until end of July / aug.

@SammySN I made a spreadsheet, separated into groups; Sleeping, Feeding, out and about, bathing, Health, Clothing, nursery, Misc and that helped

@SJR86 glad your appointment went well, and they are keeping an eye on you. Can’t beat retail therapy, which travel systems did you try?

Hi ladies! Hope you are all keeping okay.
So although I am happy with everything the consultant said the other day and the fact that I'm low risk in his opinion, he did say I can just call them back at fetal med and have a NIPT test if I wanted to if I was still worrying. DH didn't want to do this as he's happy with everything, but I think I just want the extra reassurance. I'm thinking of giving them a call, I know DH won't be happy... but maybe I won't tell him? Am I being silly for just wanting that extra reassurance? I always declined screenings with other two pregnancies too at beginning because of DH too. What do you ladies think?

BS9790 · 27/06/2020 18:32

We've decorated the room and have bought quite a bit now. We waited until 20 weeks to decorate and for ordering any "big stuff".
Except the pram which I got a bit sooner as it was a good deal 😂

I've also bought way more clothes than he will ever, ever be able to wear Blush oops!

SJR86 · 27/06/2020 18:38

@SamK93 if it helps to lower your anxiety levels then I would go for it if I were you, if your getting stressed and anxious then it's not going to do you or the baby any good, but can appreciate how you must be feeling if DH is against testing.

@DressingGown87 we've gone for an Uppababy Vista, I'm 5 foot and DH is 6'4" so it gave us the best range of handle height for pushing etc! Plus it can be used for occasional overnight sleeping which is a bonus.

roarfeckingroar · 27/06/2020 18:40

DP assembled the super fan I ordered and I've never loved him more. Of course, it's now cooler.
I've done two online yoga classes this morning and been for a long walk because I have some actual energy. Long may it last!

DressingGown87 · 27/06/2020 18:41

@SamK93 I think it’s great that the Consultant was positive, but you need to to what feels right to you. Anxiety And worrying will drive you insane in my opinion if that’s how you feel, and that’s your body and mind natural way of processing things, although you know that you would be happy with any outcome. Maybe try and speak to your DH again?

DressingGown87 · 27/06/2020 18:42

@roarfeckingroar glad your feeling upbeat! Have you had the storms down south to make it cooler?

@SJR86 that’s the pram I went for! If you find a good deal on a matching foormuff let me know, they seem to be sold out everywhere.

Mc3209 · 27/06/2020 18:42

@SamK93 of course you are not being silly at all for wanting a bit more definitive answers. NIPT may put your mind at rest. If I were you I would tell DH that you would like to do NIPT and call the clinic. He cannot unilaterally take decisions on these things, you are very much part of the equation too, in fact you are doing all the hard work in pregnancy.
And if he is not pleased, well, now it's his turn to compromise.

roarfeckingroar · 27/06/2020 18:43

We've bought almost everything now. Just need a baby bouncer, more nappies and wipes, nappy cream.. everything else is good to go!

roarfeckingroar · 27/06/2020 18:45

@DressingGown87 yes we had some heavy rain and it's fresh in London once again.

watersintheclouds · 27/06/2020 19:31

It sounds like we’re definitely a bit behind on the shopping front. We’ve got the car seat and one pack of muslins as they were Aden + Anais in the sale. We’re waiting for a big John Lewis to reopen in London and then we’ll do a personal shopping trip to make final decisions on things. We’ve been narrowing down a few options for each of the big items online so hopefully we’ll tick lots of things off in one trip.

SJR86 · 27/06/2020 19:48

@DressingGown87 yes will do!

SamK93 · 27/06/2020 20:15

Thank you @SJR86 @Mc3209 I'm so glad that I can come here whenever there's anything on my mind and you ladies give the best advice/reassurance.

@DressingGown87 you're right, although I don't mind, I just feel I would rather know for sure and be prepared for the outcome. It would just make me feel more at ease about things, although the risk is low there's always that what if it does though, that plays around in my mind all the time.

Chl00 · 27/06/2020 20:53

I’ve got to decorate my room and the baby’s room before he comes so I thought might as well buy everything now 😂 my DP made me write a list of all the things I got because I was worried we still had loads to buy but we really don’t..

Do any of you lovely ladies know which baby monitor is the best? I don’t mind about the price just want the best one available

Freddie1987 · 27/06/2020 21:08

@Chl00 I'm on the verge of getting the Snuza hero. Seem pretty swayed by the reviews and the way it's used clipping on to the nappy. Personally I think we'll wait to get a video/audio one once they're in their own room.

Chl00 · 27/06/2020 21:10

@Freddie1987 yeah I think I just want a video one as he will be next to me until he goes into his room so I didn’t even consider the other forms

Glooorb · 28/06/2020 09:46

@SamK93 I’m glad to hear that the news is positive so far. I completely understand your wish to test further, to get more confirmation. I personally think NIPT is a good idea if it will help you to alleviate some of your anxiety. Since it’s not invasive, it feels to me that it is mostly without disadvantages. Hope you can come to an agreement with your DH.

@Chl00 we got the Nanit. The breathing monitoring without any electronics sold it to us. It’s a patterned swaddle that you wrap around your baby and the monitor checks whether your baby is breathing well. It helps with the anxiety around SIDS I think. No actual monitor - you get the feed on your phone but you can hook with an amazon fire echo to be the dedicated monitor if you wish.

BS9790 · 28/06/2020 10:56

@Freddie1987 I think we are going to go for a snuza hero too, to use from birth.

We've bought a Motorola video monitor in the sale for when he goes into his own room further down the line.

We originally bought the tommee tippee video monitor with sensor mat, but we thought it was crap so returned it!

roarfeckingroar · 28/06/2020 15:08

I feel fat and knackered today. Anyone else? I want my body back :(.

KitKatKit · 28/06/2020 15:45

@roarfeckingroar Amen sista. Not only huge, but generally uncomfortable, and sooooo tired. I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and think the little squirt is having a growth spurt.

Also woke up with nausea...what fresh hell is this?! I haven't seen that old friend since week 12 ish. 😭
