when it does happen they nod sagely and go 'oh yes.. this happens to 1 in 100 pregnant women'

(and why is it always 1 in 100)

I am awaiting your opinions before posting the bizarre things that occurred during my otherwise totally healthy pregnancies

I can remember being a bit worried when my bellybutton started to stick right out. I had visions of it popping out and coming undone and all my stomach contents falling out.
got to clean all the fluff out of it thou.

Never had any of it with all 3 PGs apart from the Carpal Tunnel with the 3rd which was agony but short-lived! Had superbly easy births too,so I know I'm lucky.

Just had to say thank you ladies so much for making me laugh, just what I needed!!

CatIsSleepy · 21/09/2007 09:03

Almost forgot- I had loads of little red patches on my upper chest and arms, and a few on my face which looked like burst capillaries. Did anyone else have these?

I was quite upset-looked like I had measles! was thankful it was winter so I could keep most of them covered up. They began disappearing the day after I gave birth.

Ecmo-I also had the ridiculously sticking out bellybutton thing! Found that rather embarassing too. As you say though, easier to clean (every cloud...)

At night it felt like I could hear my heart beating...felt like a whooshing sort of throbbing in my ears...I put it down to all the extra blood my heart was having to pump around...

Lucyand2 · 21/09/2007 09:18

Eek, where to start. I was allergic to my pregnancy hormones in the last couple of weeks and itched all over. Apparently this is rare. Then I was allergic to my breastfeeding hormones - great, another rarity. Luckily it eased after a couple of weeks.
My nips, which stayed pink last time, have gone a horrible shade of dark brown and they're itching this time. They look awful (and gigantic) and I'm only halfway through.
I also seem to be very allergic to insect bites, I've still got some swollen up from a month ago.
No leg cramps yet, last time they happened lots and I even got one during labour.

sarahloumadam · 21/09/2007 13:21

Enormous poos (yes I managed to block the loo )

Weird pigmentation marks under my arms and above my top lip (looks like dodgy lip liner).

Brushing against my bellybutton makes me want to barf.

Braxton hicks and foot cramps after orgasm (kind of ruins the moment really)

Will have to change username now

Vulgar · 21/09/2007 13:55

Lots of the same symptoms as everyone else but the worst ones were the mental problems.

getting agrophobic and not wanting to go out.

Being scared of old people and children.

I was WEIRD!

back to normal the day after i gave birth.

WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD!

BellaBear · 21/09/2007 19:28

just thought of another one:

the way my bump is bigger in the evening than the morning, then shrinks again overnight.

MarchMum · 21/09/2007 19:49

dropping everything i pick up

my head snapping when i hear a baby cry in public or on the tv

dry nose (opposite of wet nose reports!) and not caring if i pick my nose in oublic bc it hurts so much!

learning the term 'fanjo' - thanks for that!

miniegg · 21/09/2007 20:10

sleep orgasms - interested to hear others got these too! i'd wake in the morning and think i dreamt it!
terrible leg cramp in the night - yelling out in pain.
until around week 16, an unbelievably dry mouth at night. I mean so dry I felt i'd been in a desert for a month.
and snoring. loudly enough to wake myself up!

tiredandgrumpy · 21/09/2007 20:10

Weird dreams - dreamt I gave birth to a kitten (scrawny, soggy fur etc) and woke up in horror when I dreamt it had sharp pointy teeth as it was about to breastfeed.

No orgasms during sleep for me. Got nightmares instead.

Sufi · 21/09/2007 20:18

Ah I'm loving this thread! It's making me me totally normal! Mad pregnancy things for me:

Hating chocolate (I know! I used to love it!)
Hairy belly
Enormous, really dark nips - my baba is going to have NO problem finding them...
Fluctuating belly button (sometimes it's in, sometimes it's out)
Craving very very very cold fruit juice and very very very cold melon
Itchy boobs, from day 1 (I'm now 32 wks)
Taking against my brother-in-law's cooking - all of it!
Sleep orgasms and being horny all the time
The baby sticking his bum out and making my tummy go lopsided

You know, I'll miss it when it all goes back to normal... er, maybe!

sarahloumadam · 21/09/2007 20:23

Just thought of another one - becoming addicted to Mumsnet! Never thought I would love online messaging so much!

my husband gave m he nickname of 'trufflepig' with my dd as I snored so loudly during my pregnancy, especially towards the end....

j20baby · 21/09/2007 21:54

night sweats (waking up 10 times a night, thinking my waters have broke, but no, i'm just sweaty!)

increased cm (a lot)

piles

carpal tunnel

terrible pain in my cheekbone that comes and goes(think its due to water retention pushing on a nerve!)

shooting pains in legs

beforesunrise · 22/09/2007 12:07

orgasming in my sleep (good) while dreaming about horrid male colleagues whom i can never look in the face again (v bad).

dreaming my baby was abducted by an illegal adoption ring and replaced with a hairy middle aged man, whom i bfed for 3 days before realising it wasn't my baby (i woke up screaming).

my belly button going black

my eczema getting totally out of control

carpal tunnel

spd

waking up from the most horrid leg cramps ever

and now i am doing it again... help me god...

3Ddonut · 22/09/2007 19:58

I got a funny dry, red patch of skin on my big toe that comes back most summers, doesn't bother me, I wouldn't know it was there if I couldn't see it, which I couldn't for a while whilst carrying ds!

systemsaddict · 23/09/2007 17:54

I got MANY of those mentioned with ds 1 - snoring, dribbling at night (hugely and horribly), bunged up nose, itchy hypersensitive skin, night orgasms (hadn't made the link these were a pg symptom till now!), piles (urgh), skin tags, hairy tummy (urgh again), insomnia (unheard of for me), extremely sensitive sense of smell, foods tasting weird, wine tastes like toxic waste ... The weirdest thing was dp had sympathetic symptoms - nausea, fatigue and Braxton-Hicks. Two weeks ago he started feeling exhausted and craving strange foods - I was out at nine pm buying him hot lime pickle. We joked he must be pregnant - then this Friday I got BFP.

Hoonette · 24/09/2007 16:12

Not strictly on-topic, but something they never told me: when you dilate during labour, you bleed!
Almost had a heart attack when I looked down and saw all the blood

susiemj · 24/09/2007 16:21

I've become incredibly clumsy. I drop EVERYTHING I possibly could. Plus, I cannot keep a top clean through a meal. Have new found sympathy with DH, who is clumsy too. I used to blame him a bit, but now I know what a dork you feel.

My best friend says it's to get me in training for picking things up after DC for the next 20 years!

Bouquetsofdynomite · 24/09/2007 16:26

Oh yes, hugely swollen bits below, cramp after orgasm combined with a rather exhausting sex drive in my case. DH was happy obviously.
I LOVE my grown-up nipples that appeared at 5wks pg, so pleased they stuck around for good. Previously had pretty much invisible little nips on my DD boobs, bit strange really.

susiemj · 24/09/2007 16:37

Hoonette - as a first timer I need more information on this! I thought you'd bleed during delivery... How early does it start?

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 16:39

I've got a skin tag too!! It used to be a mole at the top of my leg but has now turned into a really big skin tag that i just cant help but twiddle with. I wonder if it will shrink when LO arrives??

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 16:40

Oh and realising that trying to turn over to face DP was alot easier if i just got OUT of the bed and got back in it the other way around.
