No heartbeat detected at ultrasound

Hi all,
I went for a private scan yesterday thinking I was approx 7 weeks + 6 days. It’s been measured at 6 weeks 5 days and no heartbeat has been detected. Has this ever happened to anyone else, and has anyone ever had a successful story? I’m confident it must be a missed miscarriage. I’ve had no symptoms but my tender breasts have eased a lot now too. ☹️

@BC11 It sounds like you're within range for things to just be a bit behind and look okay at the next scan, so I hope it all works out for you.

I had a missed miscarriage that was only detected at 11 weeks and measured at 6 weeks, so that was a much clearer case where development had stopped.

VenusStarr · 09/05/2020 17:55

It is such a headfuck @BC11. This is easier said than done, but try to keep your mind of things until Monday. I found snuggling up and watching box sets that didn't need me to engage my brain helped xx

BC11 · 09/05/2020 17:57

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. It’s absolutely awful, especially when I’ve had no symptoms and it’s still inside me not knowing. ☹️ Xx

I’m sorry for what you’re going through.
Situations like yours are exactly why I completely disagree with private scans and think they should not be allowed.

BC11 · 09/05/2020 18:30

@onlyjudgecanjudgeme Yep. But at the same time, if she is right then I guess I’ve found out early. I don’t know I’m full of all mixed emotions ☹️

Very glad your at epu Monday atleast you'll know abit more/get an answer. I've also had both outcomes. Miscarried twice it really is the worst thing but now have a happy healthy 1 year old xx

hermionelodge · 09/05/2020 19:16

I had an early scan due to bleeding at what I thought was 6 weeks, the scan showed a sac but no yolk or fetal pole. The sac was measuring 5 weeks. I was convinced the baby had stopped growing as I was adamant on my dates. They booked me in for 2 weeks later and there was a heartbeat! I was measuring 7 weeks so still a week behind according to my dates. By my 12 week scan I was measuring a week ahead again and dates bang on as to what I thought. Sometimes the baby just develops slower but still catch up. Have everything crossed for you as I know how worrying it is

Cosyblanky · 09/05/2020 19:19

Hi OP, I had a scan when there was no heart beat detected following lots of bleeding. The next day an internal scan was performed and the heart beat was detected. A normal delivery then happened. I don't think want to give false hope but it is possible. I'm sorry you have to wait till Monday.

ApricotExpat · 09/05/2020 19:20

I had exactly the same. I went back a week later and there was a heartbeat. He's now 14 years old!
Good luck!

BC11 · 09/05/2020 19:27

It really does mean a lot to hear all your successful stories. I don’t want to get my hopes up :( she was just so adamant yesterday that it was a miscarriage. On the report she had put ‘single sac, yolk sac and embryo present, no heartbeat pulsation found’ X

BC11 · 09/05/2020 19:30

I’m so sorry Op. I’m sending a little prayer and hand hold your way. Fingers crossed for your scan on Monday. Xx

sor3 · 09/05/2020 19:56

My first experience didn't have a good outcome I had spotting from when I should have been 7+5 and had a scan at the epu and couldn't find a heartbeat, I then had to go back 2 later, I naturally miscarried in weeks between the two scan so knew exactly what the second scan was gonna say. My second experience I had a a bleed a at 7 + 3 and this time it was a good outcome! Thinking of you @BC11

wonderrotunda · 09/05/2020 19:56

I just wanted to send you lots of love OP Flowers

Thank you all 😭 it’s so nice to have so many nice thoughts and nice wishes. Just wish it was a better situation ☹️ x

I went for an early scan when we were, we thought, 7+5. Fetal pole only measured 6 weeks, no heartbeat. Had to wait 2 long weeks for a rescan. He’s 3 and a half now, I’ve just put him to bed after a day spent running round the garden!

BC11 · 09/05/2020 20:06

@fenellamaxwell aw that’s such a lovey outcome. Do you remember how many mm it was measuring at? X

FenellaMaxwell · 09/05/2020 20:21

I’m so sorry but I don’t.

FenellaMaxwell · 09/05/2020 20:21

I even had spotting around 6-7 weeks, and it was all ok.

BC11 · 09/05/2020 20:23

@fenellamaxwell thank you! Hopefully I’ll find out more Monday. Was yours a scan from the NHS or private? X

OP posts:
FenellaMaxwell · 09/05/2020 21:22

It was a private one at the fetal medicine centre on Harley st. It was actually really reasonably priced and when they said I had to come back in 2 weeks, they didn’t charge for the second appointment. I don’t know where you’re based but they were lovely if you want a second opinion or anything?
