@Freddie1987 we're going for a woodland theme too, with a soft grey wall and the rest of the room chalk white. I'm hoping to get creative and hand paint a chalk white tree on the grey wall. Just waiting for my scan on Friday so we can get cracking with it!

DressingGown87 · 01/06/2020 16:58

Thank you everyone. Scan has taken over a hour, as I must be growing the most awkward human ever! Everything looks fine, but they still can’t get all the information they need, so now having to sit on the labour ward. Now they’ve said I’ve got to come back in a few days, as they are all going home.

Don’t know if feel like I can’t start ordering and stuff now!

SamK93 · 01/06/2020 17:31

@DressingGown87 ohh noo I've not heard that happen before, at least you know baby is okay and all looks fine so far? Don't worry though at least they're being thorough it will be worth a few more days wait I'm sure x x

WaveStreet · 01/06/2020 17:32

@Glooorb no problem! What are you planning to buy?

@DressingGown87 ah no sorry to hear that! Was baby moving around too much? Hopefully everything is fine, although i get what you mean about not feeling ready for shopping until you're past this milestone.

1990shopefulftm · 01/06/2020 17:41

@DressingGown87 i'm so sorry that's awful, hopefully it's just them being through. would it help getting a private scan done?

DressingGown87 · 01/06/2020 17:43

They have sent me home, I’m booked in anyways next week, so they’ve rebooked my scan. There is one measurement at the bottom of the spine which they can’t get. Tried tipping me upside down, all fours, lying on my side, walking, having a wee, but she wouldn’t budge! Was wide awake covering her face and sticking her tongue out.

MW on the labour ward sent me home, said that she is fine, happy, healthy, and obviously awkward.

For those worried about movements she said don’t worry until 24 weeks, that’s when they will start monitoring them.

@SJR86 that sounds beautiful, can imagine the tree being like a silver birch tree...I'd love to paint something free hand and put my creative degree to good use but I'm too much of a perfectionist and I'd probably hate it as soon as I've finished hah. Might do something crafty like a mobile instead though. Or I've seen people doing big rainbows in muted colours on the wall which looks lovely and happy.

@DressingGown87 crikey, what a long day!! Great to hear it went well other than that though ☺️

LadyB90 · 02/06/2020 07:45

Hey everyone!
I haven't posted in ages but been keep track of how you are all doing and glad everything is going ok for you all! Good luck to those of you who have scans this week.

I had a private scan yesterday at 19 weeks as found a nearby clinic that was allowing partners. Relieved to find out that everything is good with baby and also found out that I am having a little girl 🥰.

Just had a question for you guys, my NHS scan is booked for Monday next week, and I can't decide whether to cancel it or not. Now that I know everything is ok I'm not sure I need to go but what would you guys do? Also, does anyone know whether we get given the whooping cough vaccine at the 20 week scan/has anyone had this yet?
Thanks!

SJR86 · 02/06/2020 08:02

@LadyB90 I had to book my whooping cough vaccination separately through my GP surgery.
Was your private scan just to look for gender? I personally would still go for the NHS one as it is where they do the really big check that all the vital structures are ok.

LadyB90 · 02/06/2020 08:06

@SJR86
Ah thank you I might call the midwife and ask about the whooping cough then and how to book.
It was a thorough anomoly scan (we were there about an hour) and she gave us a detailed report at the end.

Clalou83 · 02/06/2020 08:07

@LadyB90 I'm a FTM but surely the NHS need to have on record that they have done their checks with it being quite an important scan. I've had a private one but they don't check as thoroughly as a medical one although they would say something if they saw any signs, when I went she said they don't specifically look at organs in detail at private scans.
I'd also make the most of having as many scans as I can Smile.
Can't wait for mine next week. I still feel I need peace of mind even though I saw them at 17 week. I feel like the NHS scan is more official x

Lolllyf · 02/06/2020 08:18

@LadyB90 I had 12 week scan as part of a package at the Fetal medicine centre and it was very detailed but I decided to go to the NHS one too. Honestly it wasn't really necessary to have both. If you go somewhere that are doing proper detailed scans not just reassurance scans then I would imagine that is fine. There are people who will not use the NHS and have their scans done privately. But there is no harm in having an extra scan!

1990shopefulftm · 02/06/2020 08:25

@LadyB90 I believe some GP's will do the whopping cough jab still.

I've had cardiac tests done before privately and the NHS still insisted on doing it themselves so it could be they'll specifically want the anomaly scan done still.

1990shopefulftm · 02/06/2020 08:37

Actually, i've just called my gp and their still offering the whopping cough jab and i believe the hospital antenatal clinic can do it but only for those whose gp's have had to cancel their clinics.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 02/06/2020 08:45

I saw my midwife yesterday for a face to face check up and she said I could either have whooping cough jab at my 20w scan or at the gp surgery.

DressingGown87 · 02/06/2020 08:55

@LadyB90 Aww congratulatiosn on your scan and little girl! Personally I would also have the NHS scan, as they mark all the critical measurements in your notes, in case you have to have any future scans. Might help with the MW measurements too, when these start.I also got them to tell me the gender again, for clarity!

I didn't get my whopping cough vaccine yesterday at my scan, but then again I didn't really see anyone after it. But my GP surgery called me, and booked it in for this Friday, just incase they didn't do it, so will go to that appointment.

LadyB90 · 02/06/2020 11:53

Thanks everyone ❤️ taking into account everything you've all said I've decided to go to the NHS one on Monday. I called my GP too and booked the whooping cough vaccine.

Excited to continue to hear about how all your scans are going in the coming days 💗💙

SamK93 · 02/06/2020 11:56

@LadyB90 congratulations on your little girl. Personally I'd still have the NHS scan as it will be on record and they really look into detail at the measurements of the brain, kidneys, genitals, limbs, hands and feet, face, the umbilical cord and so much more that I can't remember lol. You also get to see your little girl again too

Clalou83 · 02/06/2020 17:54

Had anyone experienced a tight sore feeling near their belly button? It's not constant just every so often. Felt very tight everywhere today 18+5 today feel like my belly grew over night lol

SamK93 · 02/06/2020 18:55

@Clalou83 I'm 18+4 today I've had a tight pressure feeling for a few days now and I've had on and off cramps but I've been reassured it should be nothing to worry about as it's the only symptom and nothing else worrying is happening along with it and they do say at this time everything is pulling, stretching and growing. If you are concerned just call your midwife x

DressingGown87 · 02/06/2020 19:03

I’m feeling very full today, like someone / something is weighing me down. Got a dull pain / tightening in my lower abdomen, which hurts when I get up. I’m hoping it’s just stretching, and from the pressure of the scan yesterday.

Mc3209 · 02/06/2020 19:12

I've just made a decision to start eating healthier, effective immediately. For the past 2 days I've been shovelling so much rubbish into my mouth I am worried I will be huge by the time due date rolls around. I am already 5 kg up at 18 weeks.

OP posts:
1990shopefulftm · 02/06/2020 19:50

@Mc3209 I've been trying to be healthier in the second trimester by keeping fruit in and i chuck frozen veg in with everything. DH is on a diet so anything sweet I end up making for myself for the most part and try just to have the one packet of biscuits in so i find that's helpful to not over do the unhealthy stuff.

I know my weight gain is about 5kg at 19 weeks but i m avoiding weighing myself too often as I used to struggle as a teenager seeing what was on the scales despite the fact I had a borderline underweight BMI at that point and i don't want to go back to that mindset at all.

WaveStreet · 02/06/2020 20:43

I don't normally weigh myself so I daren't in pregnancy! Definitely craving more sweet things so trying to satisfy them with fruit etc. Once I've thought about something I know is in the kitchen I can't stop thinking about it sitting there waiting for me 🙈

Clalou83 · 02/06/2020 21:25

@SamK93 Yeah been similar myself today. Still not heard from the midwife for my 18wk apt phoned today and yesterday but still not called me back. Hay ho.

I'm loving having all this time off, and really enjoying eating healthy, I do anyways but been having a good variety.

A good snack for hot weather by Joe wicks the frozen Greek yoghurt snack and you can put what ever you like in it ie nuts berries honey even a sprinkle of choc then keep in freezer take out when you peckish.
