@Freddie1987 @justtb I had a home birth with my first, all went to plan and it was an incredible experience. Every single midwife I saw during my pregnancy supported it and was experienced in hb, I had been worried that I'd have to fight for it but it was the complete opposite! There is also a midwife led unit which would have been my backup. Definitely find out what the statistics are for hb in your area, it'll help you find out how supportive they are as a team.

@1990shopefulftm I’ve had my 24 week appointment through and it’s with the obstetrician. This one looks like it’s at the hospital, unlike my 16 week phone call this week

@SamK93 the only reason I’m doing private scans is because I suffer form anxiety so I like the reassurance of regular “your baby is fine”. The added plus is my partner gets to come along to the private scans. But if you don’t get stressed waiting 4 weeks should fly by!

@roarfeckingroar that’s the crib I like too, it looked the nicest of the bedside cribs. I’m trying to hold off until the third trimester to buy though (not sure the reason haha)

My partner decided we should find out the sex today as we’re struggling with boys names and he’s hoping it’s a girl! I’m quite excited to maybe finding out of Friday

I haven’t been told anything about my placenta position or Papp-A. Is it something I need to ask about?

Sls668 · 13/05/2020 20:45

@DogCatDex we’re the opposite. We’ve got a boys name picked and I’ve got tonnes of boys names that I love but not a single girls name, I just don’t like any at all!!!

DogCatDex · 13/05/2020 20:54

@Sls668 we should exchange notes!

justtb · 13/05/2020 21:27

I'm not going to find out the sex.. well I say I won't 😂 might give in at my 20 week! Got a girls name picked that has literally been in the works since I was 16! I'm so set on it I just hope if I do have a girl she actually suits her name and I'm not back to square one 😂 no idea on boys names - I'm destined to have a boy I'm 110% certain! So many names I love but my DP seems to hate them all!

Freddie1987 · 13/05/2020 21:38

Thanks all, yes I'll have to do more research on Leeds offerings. My best mate that is a midwife said they shouldn't have an issue if you're low risk. I've been thinking about it and I think what I actually really want is a water birth and I'm worried I won't get the option of a pool at hospital.

The name thing is a tough one isn't it. I've got a unique name because it's foreign and would like to have something relatively uncommon for my baby (I've always liked being the only one with my name growing up), but then you have to make sure it sounds good with the surname, doesn't have easy, horrible nicknames, doesn't remind you of anyone you dislike, your partner likes it...etc etc

60sPony · 13/05/2020 22:15

I think there are so many lovely girls names but find boys names so hard. Also as this baby is #2 have to make sure it suits with my sons name. There is a girls name I’ve always liked but when paired with my sons name they are a famous murderous couple...so that’s out! 😳

DressingGown87 · 13/05/2020 22:17

@1990shopefulftm Thank you, that seems a great deal, I've added it to my comparison list which I've started for the crib and pram.

@BS9790 Don't worry every pregnancy is different, and everything happens at different stages. If it wasn't for my midwife being with me when it happened, I would have not realized.

@DogCatDex Aww good luck on Friday, hope they behave! I have my girls name, and had that from the start, so just hope she suits it. I didn't have any boys names.

Has anyone started thinking about when they will start their maternity leave, and how long they will have off work? Spent all day playing with dates and finances on a spreadsheet. Which is probably going to end up pointless, as I will prob gives birth in September but trying to think positive! PS I have done this around napping (again), so if anyone finds my energy which I lost at 17 weeks, please return it.

justtb · 13/05/2020 22:38

I'm getting a weird stabbing pain just under my left breast and behind my rib cage.. for a fleeting second I thought it was the baby but I know baby is in right position from scans. Is this just my organs moving about? Sounds a bit gross when you think about it, doesn't it?

UpsyDaisy1234 · 14/05/2020 05:24

I'm really glad everyone is faring well except for some flutter & bump worries. Don't worry ladies, in few weeks time, you'd be getting a lot more than flutters, your babies are trying to get their tiny fists & feet just a little stronger the kicks. Lol. Also, ftms don't usually show early as much as 2nd pregnancy & subsequent ones.

I'm jealous of those that have their scans booked for this weekend. Mine is 4weeks away & it feels like ages ahead. Lets see how many girl & boy we are adding to the numbers. I think boys are winning at the moment

I'm pretty sure that my hospital & a couple of others around are still offering & supporting home births. It's one thing i've always desired but can't experience because i'm always high risk when pregnant. So as long as you are low risk, you might want to consider it, so many women swear its an awesome experience.

Can see the cots & prams shopping already done for some here & many are awaiting scan before they jump in the queue, very impressive & exciting. I'm so lucky I have everything from both my son & daughter. I just need a few sleepsuits,

vests, & muslins. I have just bought some spare parts for my electric breast pump, few extra bottles, & new teats. The only major buy this time is a bigger car which we are having a look at daily, we are thinking of replacing one of our cars (mine) to a 7seater. I need some recommendations from you all...a decent & not too expensive car pls.

This is our 3rd & last baby. We didn't find out gender for my 1st, we did with my 2nd & we want to keep this one a suprise as we already have one of each, so wouldn't mind any one. Besides am not planning to redecorate any of the kids room until a couple of years time, if its a girl, then my son gets a room to himself, & the girls will share a room with a bunk bed. And the other way if its a boy.

I envy all the sweet treats being talked about here, i almost drooled when someone mentioned magnum ice-cream the other day. With my GDM, i can only eat low-GI diet throughout pregnancy. The only good about it is that i don't gain alot of weight. The frustrating part of it is that i prick my fingers 6 times in a day monitoring my blood sugars and i give myself injections on the stomach 4times in a day for novarapid & 2 times in a day for insulin & there's just too many daily tablets to take. Lol

I'm so glad this will be my last baby. #phew!

Sls668 · 14/05/2020 09:15

@DressingGown87 I’d love to stay off for the Summer on maternity leave but I don’t think that’ll be an option for me. I work for my family’s business so I’m super lucky that I’ll be on full pay but I don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage. I think I’ll do 5 weeks of 2 shorter days (Keeping in touch days) starting in May then start back properly. I work 5 days 8-6 now so am going to request 4 days with one early finish, I’m more than happy to be flexible with returning hours week by week. Baby will come to work with me as it’s a nursery so I’m lucky in that sense too

Sls668 · 14/05/2020 09:18

@UpsyDaisy1234 my scan is 4 weeks away too, it feels like a lifetime! I’m hoping the shops reopen soon as I really want to test out any big things that I buy. I’m already dead set on having a Bugaboo but feel like I should take my boyfriend along to test drive one so he feels like he’s made the decision too!
We also desperately need a new car, mines a 3 door mini and it’s seen better days! Ideally I’d like to have the car before buying car seats etc so we can try everything together before committing to any big buys

1990shopefulftm · 14/05/2020 09:41

Really undecided about when to take my mat leave, if I can carry on working at home until then, then I would start in September but if we have to go back into work I feel like with some guidelines suggesting you should be more careful with social distancing in the 3rd trimester that maybe I should take it earlier even if DH is back in the office himself.

DressingGown87 · 14/05/2020 11:00

@UpsyDaisy1234 Hopefully the 4 weeks fly by. I think boy numbers are winning too, just 2 of us with girls due on the same day. Alot of people I know have Ford C-Max 7 seaters and they say they are good, and reasonably priced. I test drove a Audi Q7 which was huge.

@Sls668 The bugaboo Fox 2 is at the top of my list for prams, but also want to test drive it. I have booked an online appointment with a mamas & papas sales advisor, which is a video call. So I can talk through prams, cribs etc, without trawling the internet for hours. At least then if I don't get to test drive I have better idea / shorter list.

I have sorted my maternity and spoke to my Employer this morning. I'm furloughed until end of June, then going back 2 days per week but working from home / part time furloughed. As I'm high risk pregnancy anyways, with health conditions. I start my maternity leave on 12th October, with two weeks of holidays before then. I will take 6 weeks unpaid at the end of my SMP period, and 2 weeks holidays, and return on the 6th September, at 3.5 days per week. I just fear putting a young child in a large nursery, who may be premature. So I just want this to be as near to their first birthday as possible.

justtb · 14/05/2020 11:37

Just had my 16 week phone appointment.. went quite well, had a list of questions. I'm normally not very good at getting myself across over the phone. My 20 week scan is 4 weeks today too! Will try exercise patience and not book a private one for before then 😬😬

EmmaA96 · 14/05/2020 13:18

@UpsyDaisy1234 I am also looking on a bigger 7 seater car, I have my eye on the Vauxhall Zafira but I want to make sure there I can fit 3 car seats in the back and my eldest in the very back!

So lovely seeing everyone starting their baby shopping! I am looking for a decent breast pump as didn’t try with my first 2, does anyone know if the medela is any good?

We had our fetal medicine scan yesterday and our first appointment with the midwife at the twin club. All is well and I’m back in 2 weeks for another scan!

We booked a private scan last night for my partner to finally see the babies and got some lovely pictures and found out we are having girls 💗💗

DressingGown87 · 14/05/2020 13:55

@justtb glad your 16week appointment went well. Hopefully the 4 weeks will fly by, until your scan!

@emmaA96 aww congratulations on your little girls! 💕 are they identical? Glad your scan and appointment went well. That’s what we struggled with, the twins and their brother all needed car seats, and we had to try fit them all side by side. Hence why I now have a big / wide car!

EmmaA96 · 14/05/2020 14:04

Thank you @DressingGown87 yes they are identical! Two sacs but one placenta.

Yeah it’s a hard task!! We’ve currently got the Joie 360 for the girls and they are so wide there is a tiny gap on the middle seat! So I will have to replace both, one that fits in the middle seat between the group 0 car seats and for the boot seat as they aren’t isofix! Definitely my biggest worry at the min 🤣

BS9790 · 14/05/2020 14:14

I spoke to my midwife today, my next appointment will be in July (24 weeks) and she thinks that this will still be over the phone. She believes that maternity services won't lift restrictions for a long time.

UpsyDaisy1234 · 14/05/2020 14:22

@Sls668 I hope our 4weeks comes around quickly. Are you going to find out gender?

@DressingGown87 I also think the Audi Q7 is huge. A family friend drives it. I'm having a look at the Ford C-max right now with Dh. Thank you

@EmmaA96 we will have a look at Vauxhall zafira. Thank you.

Medela is amazing. I have the medela swing flex. And its lasted me for years now. You could have a look on that or because you are expecting twins, double breast pump might be best option for you, would help you express more with less time.

Lolllyf · 14/05/2020 14:22

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday. Checked urine, bp and listened to fetal heart with the doppler. I suppose it would have been fine over the phone but I was quite glad to have gone in. I made a 24 week appointment with the midwife instead of gp, she asked if my gp practice was only doing video calls (I think they are from a message I got) and said the 24 week one should be in person to check bp, urine etc and they start measuring fundal height. So she was happy to book the 24 week one with the midwife team.

BS9790 · 14/05/2020 14:57

@lolllyf seems like it's different rules in different places. Rather frustrating and actually quite unfair I think!

DogCatDex · 14/05/2020 15:54

Anyone booked in their whooping cough vaccine yet. I just tried and the nurse said I have to wait for 20 weeks... I thought it was just after 16?

DressingGown87 · 14/05/2020 16:24

@EmmaA96 aww! I’m sure you’ll find something practical which squeezes them all in.

@BS9790 think every trust is running different policies. I know they said mine would be in person, but all mine have been due to high risk. Seems unfair if you miss out

@dogcatdex I initially got told 16 weeks, then they told me at 16 weeks, it would be done after my 20week scan

DogCatDex · 14/05/2020 16:41

@dressinggown87 at least messaging is the same
