@Tropicana1 never heard of an Anibal (sounds like a Yorkshire person (me) saying Hannibal!) what is it?? I don't wanna google coz then I'll also get ads on insta!

purplefig · 24/09/2019 16:52

@MrsEG ahhh it's nice they offered in the end! They do sound tricky though!

@BostonFern @MrsEG @ELW85 @MrsR16 thanks for the well wishes!

Well lads, after all my fuss and excitement...they couldn't tell!! The baby had it's legs firmly crossed and, as if that wasn't adequate protection, the umbilical cord was covering it's bits too. I actually burst out laughing!! The good, and main, news is that they look perfectly healthy and everything is developing as it should be. Do you know, it was really strange. They went through all the health checks (which took bloody ages because my little prude was very wriggly - but also amazing because I got to see them sucking their thumb and giving us a wave) and then he was like "right, let's have a look between the legs." And I think I felt so relieved knowing everything was OK, and so I felt this tide of almost...apathy wash over me. So when he said he couldn't tell, I 100% didn't care and I'm now genuinely looking forward to a surprise. It's totally shocked me as I am (used to be?!) a total control freak and wanted to know everything, but the thought of getting another scan just doesn't appeal. So we're going to wait and see in February instead! We got home and DH, who was so looking forward to finding out, told me he was incredibly proud of me and presented me with a packet of Percy Pigs (my pregnancy snack of choice) and a journal so I can write letters to the baby to give them when they're older. Gahhh! Oh would you look at that - even when I don't have any actual news I manage to rabbit on for a novel. Right, I'm off to potentially take a pre The Capture nap as my 4am wake-up time is catching up with me...have a fab evening all x

MrsEG · 24/09/2019 17:21

@purplefig Oh the little spoilsport haha! How fantastic everything is lovely and healthy and perfect. Don’t rule out not knowing at all though; all the girls at my pregnancy yoga are having third tri growth scans so you may yet have one where baba has legs akimbo to find out!! Or have you decided now you actually don’t want to know and want the surprise? DH sounds fabulous - how absolutely lovely. My DH told me today I looked a bit like Peter Griffin. Could he have a word?

@BostonFern I know what you mean! It’s kinda why I wanna get all the shopping done so I have no late surprises and can do a bit of saving before Jan!

Re: preggo glow my skin actually cleared up!! It’s never been less greasy! I’m bloody loving it.

I have just logged off from a VERY busy work day today so going to take the dog out for some fresh air then tonight iiiiits Bake Off time!

OP posts:
purplefig · 24/09/2019 17:31

@MrsEG I know!! It was hilarious just how much they were not playing ball! It's a weird one...I don't think I do want to find out now. And I never would have predicted that. I thought I'd be straight home and on the phone to book a private scan Grin. Oh dear....Mr EG, no no no!!! You go and enjoy your lovely dog walk and Bake Off and revel in that pregnancy glow.

PippaPug · 24/09/2019 17:37

@purplefig - So glad your scan went well and although you didn’t find out, your have a wonderful surprise soon enough! Your DH sounds lovely ☺️

@MrsH497 - My Skin hasn’t always been great but in the last few years it’s been better but it’s flaring up a bit atm, but randomly spots on my chest/back 🙄 not loving it but what can I do?!

@LokiCat - I didn’t have my glucose test done with the midwife (although that would of been easier) so was a trip to the hospital for it, but it didn’t taste as bad as I thought and I’m really hoping it’s all fine! Are you still On a post scan glow? I was for a few days afterwards!

Seeing the consultant tomorrow and midwife have asked for me to be scanned again, so I’m hopeful I will see them again! This will be the 5th scan if so ☺️ Still just as special as the first time.

Tonight Bake off 🎉 and DH and I watched the capture which we really got into, but he is home late tonight so we will watch it over the weekend.

Had my haircut today, and then walked to a independent shop selling all things related to babies....and they have been there for over 100 years so lots of experience! I said I wasn’t buying anything but the woman was so lovely I ended up chatting with her for over 90 mins and I think I have decided what car seat I want - plus the shop offers twin discount 🎉 so I’m over the moon, you can order the car seats in and pick them up when your ready as they have a storage room and will fit your car seat into your car too.
I told my mum where i want today and she said my Nan got my dads pram from there, and my parents got my pram from there so I’m hoping we will also follow suit too.

Have a lovely evening everyone!

MrsEG · 24/09/2019 17:44

@purplefig Ha, I love that baby was just like ‘Sorry mum, not today!’ I think a surprise sound so lovely. I like to think I’d have done that if I was just having one (but realistically I’m such a control freak there’s just no way haha!) Did you still manage to get some good scan photos?

@PippaPug that shop sounds fabulous!! And a twin discount too! Which car seats have you gone for? Why have they called you for another scan; is all okay? I hope so! Enjoy seeing your little babas again x

Tropicana1 · 24/09/2019 17:45

@BabySquid I hadn't either. It's basically a balloon type thing attached to a pump. You put it just inside you and pump it a bit then do a series of pelvic floor exercises to practice relaxing your pelvic floor with something there and gradually over 4 weeks increase the size of the balloon to a bit smaller than baby head size. Sounds quite intense, BUT does seem to have actual scientific evidence base behind it reducing tears by up to 60% or something. Apparently causes no long term stretching or dilation either. As you can tell I fell down a rabbit hole on their website 😂😂😂
Not at all convinced it's a route I even want to think about going down haha but it was definitely interesting reading / watching of the demo schematic video. Although I have increased my targeted ads by about 10 fold now

@purplefig yay glad your little one was all good at the anomaly scan 😊

@MrsEG I've recently taken up pregnancy yoga too - it's a lot less yoga / lot more hip swaying than I was expecting 😂 but I am actually really enjoying it so far!

ELW85 · 24/09/2019 18:11

@MrsR16 - thank you, today has been ok, just need to get DH through tomorrow 😊

@Tropicana1 - we had a look at the Occarro in Mothercare and love it! Thanks for the tip on the discounts!

@purplefig - so, so happy for you that the scan went well! I totally get that as long as they’re healthy, the desire to find out the sex totally dissipates. And what a lovely DH; so considerate!
I hope your tactical nap for The Capture has worked (Napture?) and you have a lovely evening!

@PippaPug - good luck for your appointment tomorrow, I’m sure all will be fantastic!
We’ll catch up on GBBO tomorrow as can’t figure out how to get it on All4 😂
Your shopping trip sounds great!

PippaPug · 24/09/2019 18:43

@MrsEG - I’m swaying towards the Joie spin 360 or the I-spin 360 (but more towards the spin 360)

The spin 360 has a wonderful newborn insert which has a cushion to support the nape of the neck so there isn’t a gap and the padding round the whole of the seat was thick and therefore if we were in a crash - it will protect their bodies especially their heads more.
It can be reclined into 5 positions and it’s extended rear facing to 18kg which roughly is around 4 years old which is so much safer. Also came with a summer car seat cover which stops them going to sweaty/over heating/heat rash during the summer months (also can be used if they have been sick/nappy leaked on the other cover!)

The iSize was great - and it has auto activated side impact protection (two prongs as such come out of the car seat and if your in a car they would take the first impact if you were hit on the side) and it had 6 recline positions, but the padding wasn’t as thick, it didn’t come with a Summer cover and although it came with the newborn insert - it didn’t have the nape of the neck cushion (not sure correct terminology!) which would really help during impact) want my husband to see them first but that’s what I’m heading towards currently.

All ok - I’m seeing the consultant tomorrow just because I’m having twins, and midwife has asked in my notes to scan me again as she didn’t do any measurements - it was just a look and see them scan (I think because she doesn’t ever see twins!) and another midwife wanted me to have a scan to confirm heart rate - she said she was pretty sure she was getting two different heart rates but just wanted to check, but I went to EPU on Saturday and both were fine so They may not scan me tomorrow, who knows!

What week is it this week for bake off? You all seem to know before me!

@ELW85 - no idea how to use all4! Aha good luck!

Fivebyfive2 · 24/09/2019 18:59

Hi all! Midwife apt was good, in and out in 15 mins but heard the heartbeat again 😀

@ELW85, I too will be watching bake off tomorrow as telly box is broke and can't work out how to watch live on more4/all4 🤔

@PippaPug, enjoy your scan tomorrow! That baby shop sounds ace! Xx

@purplefig, so glad all was OK at your scan! That made me chuckle about the baby closing their legs 😂 Glad you weren't put out by it, it's a really good attitude to have! Xx

We're still deliberating about the bedside crib conundrum!! Might set up the moses basket and stand (which we got for downstairs, from Aldi! ) and see if we think that could work. It was only £30 so could even get another one for downstairs to save carrying it up and down... If that doesn't work, we may be splashing out on a snuz pod bedside crib!

Hope every one is staying cosy and dry this evening! Xxx

MrsEG · 24/09/2019 19:01

@Tropicana1 I absolutely love pregnancy yoga - totally agree so different to usual yoga but it’s fab! It’s pretty much all I do now, but I have signed up for a aquanatal swimming class starting in october :)

@PippaPug Spin 360 is the one we’re leaning towards too! I think it looks fab, spent about half an hour watching videos of it on YouTube yesterday haha!
Ah that makes total sense - when I had my 16 week she warned I may need a follow up scan if there had been any ambiguity with the heartbeats but she could tell right away it was two different babies as they have slightly different heart rates! Hope it all goes fab tomorrow :)

I have just watched episode 1 of the Capture after reading so much about it haha! I’m intrigued... wondering how many episodes I have to catch up on though!

OP posts:
MrsEG · 24/09/2019 19:02

@PippaPug Oh and Bake Off is 1920’s week tonight - whatever that means!!!

OP posts:
LokiCat · 24/09/2019 20:00

Hi all 😊 The rain was horrendous over here! Luckily managed to stay dry during my commute to and from work.

@BostonFern thanks for the tip re discount code, I'll have a look! Think DH is working that weekend unfortunately, so may go with my mum instead!

@thumper59 I love the way a bassinet looks and there's some great parks here for walks so I'll probably get one in the bundle deal as well!

@MrsEG how lovely of your friend to share all that with you and a muffin on top, would make my day! So sweet!
Tonight is the fourth episode of the Capture, so you're not too far behind!

@MrsH497 my skin felt like it was at its greatest just before getting pregnant and now I have so many breakouts and my face feels so rough! Trying not to use too many products in case it makes it worse 🙈 wonderful world of pregnancy hormones!

@ELW85 so sorry to hear you've got a difficult week ahead. Like you've said being open about it and remembering all the great memories is the best way to think about it. I hope your DH is okay tomorrow as well. Lots and lots of hugs ❤️

@Tropicana1 thanks for the discount tips! I can't wait to go to the shops and actually try it out.
Glad all went well at your appointment today and measurements were on track. People like to comment on everything, without thinking how it may make the other person feel. I feel like I'm going to have to come up with some stock phrases when people need to make a comment about something!

@purplefig oh how funny that the legs were tightly crossed and the umbilical cord was in the way! Crazy how things end up turning out. But I'm so glad everything is healthy and it must been so lovely to see your wriggly baby again (especially sucking its thumb and giving you a wave, how cute!). What a great outlook you have and your DH sounds brilliant as well! So happy for you, it'll be a wonderful surprise for you both in February 😊

@PippaPug ah okay, I hope all comes back fine with the glucose test. Also that all goes well with the consultant tomorrow and you get to see little babies again. I don't think I'd ever get tired of seeing the scan, it's so exciting every time!
Yes I'm still on a post scan high Grin keep opening up my photos app to look at the scan photo. It's so crazy!

I'm having a little rest in bed waiting for The Capture as well. I don't realise how much the day takes it out of me until I finally crash in bed when I'm home. Sometimes it's so warm and toasty under the duvet that I don't want to leave. Feel like such a lazy bum since getting pregnant 😂

Have a brilliant evening all x

LokiCat · 25/09/2019 06:55

Morning all :)

So my plan failed last night. I think I fell asleep probably half hour after sending that message 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Hump day thankfully! Weekend always seems so much closer when Wednesday arrives.
Have a great day 😊 x

BabySquid · 25/09/2019 07:18

@purplefig I'm glad you're happy with happy a surprise 💛 in my opinion it's the only true one of your life as no one has anything to do with it who already knows about it!! So no chance of spoilers!

@PippaPug that shop sounds the best, and happy hair cut! I need mine doing but it's the longest it's ever been and I can't face it!

@Tropicana1 yeah I don't think I'll be buying one of those, just stick with the peri massage.

@LokiCat I know what you mean about being in bed, I try spend as long as I can here in the mornings then regret it when I'm setting off late for work and don't get a decent parking space haha

Happy Wednesday all

MrsR16 · 25/09/2019 09:01

Good morning all you wonderful ladies! @LokiCat definitely right, Wednesdays seem ten times closer to the weekend than Tuesdays! 😂

I'm officially in my third trimester today! Super scary...

purplefig · 25/09/2019 09:25

@PippaPug yeah I can't believe how un-bothered I am about finding out to be honest, we both were desperate to know...and suddenly we're just not?! Weird. Yeah, DH is pretty great! How amazing you can get a twin discount at your local baby shop, that's fab. Sweet your family has so much history there too - you don't get that at the likes of Mothercare. All the best at your appointment today - it's just magic getting to see them.

@MrsEG I remember you saying you weren't planning to find out...and then it was twins! Grin we got some fab photos, I'll attach one here. Aqauanatal swimming sounds fab!!! Ooo enjoy The Capture...intriguing is exactly the word I'd use.

@Tropicana1 Thank you! I hadn't been too worried in the lead-up, but that morning I had some classic 'scanxiety' and it was a huge relief to know everything was ticking along as it should be. Pregnancy yoga is great isn't it?! Although our teacher makes us squat and hold for 90 seconds doing 'golden thread breath' to practice for contractions. Cruel but hopefully worthwhile Grin

@ELW85 Thanks lovely, yeah it was weird - that need to know just totally went out the window. Not long until you get your results now hopefully! I didn't end up having a Napture (just brilliant wordplay!) but I did stay up for it - totally worth it. That ending!!!!

@Fivebyfive2 Glad your midwife appointment went well - it's incredible getting to hear the heartbeat isn't it?! Yeah the baby really wasn't having any of it - I said to DH I kind of like their obstinance...though remind me of that when they're a 'willful' toddler Grin. We're going for a Moses basket and a normal cot. Like you say, if it doesn't work out or you need something else you can always get it once they're here.

@LokiCat It's been bizarre weather down here too - one minute it's absolute chucking it down and then yesterday morning we had glorious sunshine! Love that you fell asleep...the dangers of Napture, eh @ELW85?1 Thanks for your kind words too, it was fab and I'm surprised and happy by our reactions haha. Far more chilled out than I thought I'd be, but I think you're right in that getting the news they're healthy is really all that matter.

@BabySquid You're having a surprise too aren't you?! I've begrudgingly, and then weirdly excitedly, joined the club! I also met someone in the waiting room who had our due date!

@MrsR16 Oh my goodness - how exciting! Is that 28 weeks?! How're you feeling?

Here's a pic of our boy or girl from yesterday! Grin

Catching up with TTC #1, thread 7!
BostonFern · 25/09/2019 10:27

@Tropicana1 glad your bump is measuring well, I know what you mean in everyone wanting to comment on bump size too!

@purplefig really pleased the scan went well, what a cheeky monkey keeping their legs crossed! That's a lovely scan photo too.

@PippaPug hope your appointment goes well today. That shop sounds amazing, a twin discount is fab too!

@MrsR16 I can't believe you're in your third trimester now too!

DP batch cooked a stew yesterday, another 3 litres of food frozen and ready for the newborn haze. I'm a lucky lady having him do all this preparation already.

MrsEG · 25/09/2019 10:31

@LokiCat Naps are dangerous especially in the first trimester, I slept like a cat!! Just go with it; your body is doing so much and needs to recharge! I watched another episode last night so I’m two episodes in - intrigued and confused is my current state haha! I’ll catch up on the rest this week :)

@MrsR16 Third tri! Woohoo!! Did you wake up singing ‘It’s the final countdowwwwn!’?

@purplefig What a fabulous picture!! Yeah I really do think we’d have gone for a surprise before it was twins, and then I just had to know. I’m glad we did in a way too as we are just being given so so soooo much stuff; I think if we were going down the surprise route and we were being passed girls clothes etc too the house would be fit to burst!!

Did anyone watch the Bake Off!? I loved the show but was not happy with the result at all!

I have my preggo yoga tonight and am really looking forward to it as I’ve started getting aches in my inner thighs and butt. Kinda like I’ve done a heavy leg workout but all I’ve actually done is walk the dog. It’s not much fun so I’m hoping for a good stretch out!

OP posts:
cupcakesandglitter · 25/09/2019 11:43

@MrsEG I've not watched bake off yet!!! I've seen a few people say they were disappointed though 😩 sorry to hear about your poor legs and bum, hopefully yoga helps you out later x

@BostonFern omg good on him!! Glad he's looking after you x

Ahh @purplefig glad everything looked great yesterday - and how lovely that it'll be a surprise too! Lovely picture too 🥰 x

@MrsR16 third trimester?! Where is the time going?! How exciting!!! Xx

@LokiCat story of my life 😂 first tri is exhausting!! X

Sorry if I've missed anyone, yesterday was a bit of a blur - I had my 12w scan, was in there for half an hour because the baby would not stop moving 😂 we watched them do a somersault, a handstand, rolling over, kicking with their hands behind their head and wiggling their bottom - was so fantastic to watch but the sonographer couldn't get a proper measurement so I've been given an EDD of 4th of April (but I'm pretty sure I'm a few days ahead of that).

Was feeling super happy until a nurse walked up to me after, in front of everyone, and said I'm Rhesus D negative, handed me a booklet and left me to it for an hour?! I ended up seeing a Dr yesterday who explains what it means and although I understand it I can't help but worry - my anxiety has been horrible since I've found out. Just waiting for the results to see whether the baby is positive or negative and then taking it from there ☹️ I'd post a picture of our scan photo but honestly it's the worst one we've had 🙄 adding my name to the list...

purplefig · 25/09/2019 12:12

@BostonFern I know - it did make me laugh. They were clearly determined to keep it a surprise! Oh how lovely of your partner, that freezer is going to be well and truly stocked by the time the baby gets here. Out of interest (because I'm planning to do the same), do you have a big double fridge/freezer set-up or have you got a separate freezer for this purpose? I'm trying to decide what to do. I'd like to upgrade our fridge to a big one, but they are so expensive and there are so many more pressing things to buy at this stage! Thinking it'd be far cheaper to just get an extra chest freezer and whack it out the back in the gym.

@MrsEG thanks! The level of detail between the 20 week scan the 12 week one is just incredible. We got to see so much more this time...even things like the spine was just so detailed! DH has put them all up on the fridge and it's cute looking at the 8+4 one where they're just a little blob. God our bodies are incredible! I'd definitely want to know with twins too, you've got enough to be getting organised with. At the mo we've got all our friends old baby stuff and they've had boys, but none of it is overly gendered (well, I don't consider blue gendered, or things like animal prints / stripes etc.) so I think we'll just go with it. We've decided to just get clothes up to 6 months, and then we can stock up once they're here. I've got to say, I used to love Bake Off but ever since it came off the BBC I've given up. I watched the first series, and it just wasn't the same. Was 1920s week interesting?! Oooo I'm envious of yoga tonight, that'll be great for stretching out and easing muscles. I find a good stretch + a bath magic makes me feel like a new woman.

@cupcakesandglitter thank you! Glad your 12 week scan went good with your little wriggler - they are fascinating to watch when they move around aren't they!? Although not so good at posing for pictures! Sorry the nurse wasn't great at explaining Rhesus D negative to you, that's really insensitive of her. Did she explain how severe it is? The NHS website says: "Around half of all cases of rhesus disease are mild and don't usually require much treatment." (Source: www.nhs.uk/conditions/rhesus-disease/treatment/). Could your ring your midwife for a chat?

cupcakesandglitter · 25/09/2019 12:24

@purplefig really fascinating! May have shed a little tear, I was just happy that the baby was happy 😭🥰 the doctor kind of did - until we know what little bubba is we won't know about next steps, it's more the fact I guess that I felt myself relax a bit after hitting 12w and then this is another thing to add to make me worry about I guess.

BabySquid · 25/09/2019 13:06

@purplefig that pic... that brain 🧠 I love how clear scans are now! I'm going to go against all your guesses and say girl 💖
yeah we're also having a surprise, I'm hoping it'll make me more willing to push haha

@BostonFern I'll be jumping on that batch cooking wagon come January, won't be able to afford take out most nights!

@cupcakesandglitter wow 12 week scan! That seems to have flown. Cheeky monkey not letting them get a proper measurement.

I'm having a very slow day at work today and it's making me feel so tired! On the plus side I'll be watching bake off tonight, followed by baking of my own ready for Macmillan coffee morning on Friday at work, I'm making lemon cupcakes and choc orange cupcakes.

MrsH497 · 25/09/2019 13:18

@purplefig what a beautiful scan!! So detailed just incredible. We don't think we are going to find out the sex.

@cupcakesandglitter omg you're 12 weeks already! Naughty baby not playing ball though. Hope you're ok.

Well I'm almost at the point we lost baby last time and can feel my anxiety creeping in, a week until my booking in appointment which I'm looking forward to.

Tired again today - one of the girls at work is seriously pissing me off today now with hormones going around I wouldn't test me

MrsR16 · 25/09/2019 13:32

@purplefig that's a beautiful scan picture!! Much better than my 20 week scan pictures haha! And yes, 28 weeks today! I'm feeling ok, bit tired and achy hips, but in the grand scheme of things, I'm good! Baby is wiggling around like a good un which is just wonderful 😊

@BostonFern it doesn't seem like 2 mins ago that I was POAS finding out! Aw, your DH is on the ball!!

@MrsEG you literally just made me lol in the middle of my office! 😂 I haven't watched Bake Off yet - that's a job for this evening while DH is making dinner!

@cupcakesandglitter I'm honestly so excited but also petrified as well! The time is going so quickly and I have so much to do! My HR manager's not responding to my email double checking when I'm actually allowed to go on leave... that's not overly helpful! Don't worry about being Russia negative - loads of women are! Just means a couple of extra jabs to make sure you can have more babies in future 😊 my mum is negative, and I'm positive, so she had to have everything with me! It's brilliant to hear baby's such a wriggler though - I'd rather that than them being super quiet!

@MrsH497 goodness, a week to go till your booking in appt! Even that time has flown by... sorry to hear you're getting pissed off at work! That's never much fun... I have one person here who just annoys me! They genuinely haven't got a clue what they're doing and it frustrates the living daylights out of me!
