Pregnancy after Miscarriage

Starting a new thread for all of us that find ourselves pregnant again after one or more heartbreaking losses. I know it is really hard to join a pregnancy thread after miscarriage and we all fear the worst will happen again, but let's go on this journey together and hold hands along the way.

This is a safe place for all the ladies on the first pregnancy missed miscarriage thread and for any newcomers who want to join - you are all most welcome! All of the ladies on here have suffered one or more miscarriages and most of us have had particularly difficult losses, such as mmc and other complications. You don't need to be pregnant again to join - you are also most welcome if you have had a loss and are trying again. But we will be sharing scan photos and details of the new pregnancies, in case anyone might find that to be triggering.

Tagging @Catconfusion @Amanda81 @Kiki061190 @3204ECL @Babypending @Ginmonkey84 @MrsMGE and please add anyone else I may have left off. Without further ado, let's start the roll call.

About me: Age 31, trying for my first baby. Previous mmc at 12 weeks in February (hb stopped at 9+4), this turned out to be a partial molar pregnancy and I was monitored by CX hospital for three months. CP in March.

Now 9 weeks, EDD in March, if I make it that long. Oscillating between hope and extreme anxiety every day!

@bananamonkey Congratulations on the scan and the results! You must be so relieved ♥️

Amanda81 · 11/10/2019 12:21

Great news on the results @bananamonkey - these are all good results xxx

bananamonkey · 11/10/2019 13:18

Ah thank you all, it’s so nice to finally feel positive about it. Thanks for everyone’s support along the way, it’s been a lifesaver x

Catconfusion · 11/10/2019 14:16

That's great news @bananamonkey and as the others have said good numbers. We'd decided we'd have the NIPT if risk higher than 1 in 500. I'd be happy with your numbers. Appreciate you may have had lower with DD and others on the thread had lower but still highly unlikely anything is wrong. You could ask the midwife what the blood results were out of interest. Presume you already know the Nuchal measurement. I hope you can relax a bit now. Xx

bananamonkey · 11/10/2019 15:15

TBH I can’t even remember what they were last time and if this was the 1st pregnancy I’d probably not worry, just everything making me paranoid this time! Nuchal measurement was 1.8 so all fine. I’ll try not to give it many more thought Smile

Catconfusion · 11/10/2019 15:42

@bananamonkey sounds like you have a good attitude. That's a great Nuchal measurement. Apparently the majority of the three trisomys are picked up based on a high Nuchal fold so that alone is reassuring. X

sadtoday21 · 14/10/2019 11:34

Hey ladies! How is everyone doing?

@Catconfusion did you have your scan already?

@Kiki061190 only one more week to go now!! How are you feeling? I'm terrified for next Monday!

@3204ECL hope you are well and enjoying the second trimester! How many weeks are you now?

@bananamonkey hope you can relax now that you have your results. Are you planning on doing any more scans?

@Amanda81 thinking of you! How's your little girl doing? Hope both of you are well and enjoying the third trimester!

I'm 18+4 today and still not feeling any movement :(. Starting to get a bit worked up again, particularly with the anomaly scan a week from today. I was just really hoping for at least some flutters before the scan. Trying my best to stay positive, but feel the anxiety really creeping back in.

Kiki061190 · 14/10/2019 12:18

Hi @sadtoday21 I know it’s hard but I would try not to worry about movement. A family member off mines never felt a thing until 22 weeks. I’m a little anxious for the scan in case something has happened to baby but have found spending time away from online to be helpful. Just hoping it’s good news next week!

bananamonkey · 15/10/2019 14:19

Hi @sadtoday21 sorry you are feeling anxious again, as Kiki said it's entirely normal not to feel anything till after 20 weeks with anterior placenta, I didn't till week 22/23 but I know it's so hard not to worry. Only 1 week till your scan which will be so lovely!

I'm not planning an extra scan at the moment but we'll see. The relief of last week was lovely but doubt starts creeping again when I told work and booked my next MW appointment yesterday, I feel like a fraud which is crazy. My bump is massive now though so there's no hiding it! I let myself order some new maternity clothes as I'm desperate for some jeans so that'll be nice when they arrive.

Also booked my flu jab, they only had 1 appointment left for the rest of the year, really early on a Saturday morning next month, apparently the over 64 slots take priority. I've booked it but may look at going to Boots instead.

Hope everyone else is doing OK :)

Catconfusion · 15/10/2019 15:28

Hey @sadtoday21 not long now until your scan. It is frustrating not to feel baby but I'm sure you'll feel it soon. I'm only 14 weeks but wish I had that extra layer of security that movement brings. My last scan with EPAU is at the weekend so I'll ask where my placenta is as I don't know. Just hang on in there! Xx

@Kiki061190 it's a good idea to limit online time. I've been doing the same although I've got more busy. I'm finally feeling quite a bit better so I've been out catching up with friends I haven't seen due to the sickness. Not long until your scan and hopefully the screening. I'm sure it will be fine. Xx

@bananamonkey I hear you about the maternity clothes. I've had to order a load of new things as my bump is big too. Nothing fits. Xx

I got some amazing flared maternity jeans from Topshop reduced to £15 if anyone is interested. I ordered a 10, 12 and 14 as I know Topshop can be small. I ended up with the 10 which surprised me as I'd say I'm more of a 12 due to pregnancy weight gain so a little generous.

Catconfusion · 15/10/2019 15:29

Kiki061190 · 15/10/2019 18:49

@Catconfusion @bananamonkey My bump is very small so I can still get my regular jeans on with comfort which has surprised me! I have bought maternity jeans but they are too big round the middle for me just now so they’re stores away until I need them. I’m still waiting for my nausea to die down so I’m still not eating as much as I would like. Very nervous for the scan on Monday, just hoping baby is ok.

Amanda81 · 15/10/2019 19:03

Hey @sadtoday21 - the movement is ever so slight with the first baby, and with your anterior placenta, it's going to be difficult to feel much. Try not to worry. It's great that your MW is letting you listen to the HB to help ease the anxiety. Not long now until the scan!

I do find that time offline is a good way of managing the anxiety. It's strange, as when we all had our hard times we probably found MN a reassurance and a place of safety as we were all searching for answers...but now that we are all heading in the right direction MN can build anxiety. I still find this thread a lifeline and really like catching up with you all and hearing your updates.

As for me, I'm 29+4 today. It's getting very real now! On Saturday just gone I think I experienced some serious body slides for the very first time...the feeling was very strange almost as if she was doing the jive in there 😂😂 the movement is so much stronger now that she is bigger. My U shaped pregnancy pillow has been absolute saviour for sleeping, PGP is so much better and it's helping the numbness in my hips and shoulders. I've started buying nappies and all the odds and ends (bath stuff, cotton wool etc). Getting very exciting. She still isn't feet down, but there's still plenty of time for her to move into position🤞🏻

Xx

Hi Everyone,

Kinda new to mumsnet in that I have been reading for a little while but rarely post.

I’ve just gotten a faint positive pregnancy test (think I’m 13 DPO) after having a miscarriage at 6 weeks in mid June this year. Also have an almost 2 year old.

I’m really nervous now and wondering if I should call my fertility specialist to see if there is anything different I should be doing now to try to prevent another loss or if I should just wait and see what happens...

I don’t really want to tell anyone other that my husband about the pregnancy for a while just in case we lose it again, so will be good to be able to share on here Flowers

TRex28 · 15/10/2019 20:42

@sadtoday21 congratulations on your pregnancy!

I miscarried in May at 5wks. I felt silly to feel so sad as we’d only known for 6days when I started bleeding but the heartache was real.

We decided to start trying again and this morning we tested positive!!! My job is very stressful but I’m going to try my hardest and take it easy. I feel nervous but also happy. I’m too scared to tell anyone in case I jinx it. I knew I was before I done the test.... going off chocolate and tea!!! Was a huge give away xxx

Catconfusion · 15/10/2019 21:02

Welcome @Montii and I'm sorry to hear about your previous loss. In terms of prevention you could see if the doctor will prescribe you progesterone as some ladies mc due to lower levels also baby aspirin if the doctor thinks it's appropriate.

@TRex28 welcome to the thread. It's not silly at all to be upset or even traumatised after an early loss. It's shocking and a very difficult time to navigate emotionally and physically.

Congratulations to you both on your pregnancies. Take each day as it comes and I hope you have healthy babies. Your odds are very good as recurrent losses are statistically not very likely. Xx

sadtoday21 · 16/10/2019 13:01

Thanks @Amanda81, really appreciate the handhold! I know its supposed to be light at first, but I just feel its non-existent? It seems like everyone on MNs has felt at least flutterings by 19 weeks, which I will be at tomorrow. Hate the idea of going into the scan on Monday without the reassurance of even a little movement. DH was ready to book a private scan this morning as we are both getting each other a bit worked up unfortunately. Just feeling worried :(.

That's so lovely that you are at 29 weeks already! Which pregnancy pillow do you have? Hope its helping a bit with the PGP. What was the first thing you bought for her? Are you having any more scans now or just waiting until the very end? Thinking of you!

@bananamonkey thanks so much for telling me about your experience with movement - did you also have anterior placenta? I've been trying to find the average time movement starts with anterior placenta, or at least a range, but not been able to. As for flu jab, I definitely recommend going to Boots! I got mine a few weeks ago, flu season is terrible here with all the students. Sorry to hear the reassurance from the scan is wearing off, it does tend to do that unfortunately. I highly recommend a private scan at 16 weeks, if that's an option for you.

@Catconfusion best of luck for your scan this weekend and thanks for the jeans rec! I've got some great ones from JoJo Maman Bébé now, but haven't actually worn them out yet! Still, fit is great, just like my regular jeans with a nice elastic at top. Bump is big enough now that they stay up :).

@Kiki061190 sending you a virtual handhold as we count down the days this week! I agree with you about keeping busy and keeping offline as much as possible, sometimes easier said than done unfortunately. My best anxiety free days were when we were traveling and I wasn't too fixated on the pregnancy. Worst days are when I'm just at home working in front of my laptop and MN is too tempting! I also find it gets a lot harder to distract myself when the scans get closer. Hoping Monday comes quickly with good news for us both! Xxx

Thanks @TRex28 and congrats on your pregnancy! Welcome to you and @Montii both

@sadtoday21 Yes girl almost Monday now! The anxiety has taken a hold of me and I’m just so worried that baby isn’t ok. Trying to keep busy until Monday. Thankfully I have a busy schedule until then to keep my mind elsewhere. How are you feeling?

Catconfusion · 17/10/2019 08:39

Thanks @sadtoday21 and not long now for you. I really hope it comes quickly and you can get some reassurance. It must be frustrating not feeling anything yet but seems normal for a first and with anterior placenta.

I have to say I've found decent maternity jeans hard to find so thought I'd mention Topshop as very comfortable.

So I've been really ill over the last 24 hours. DH brought home a sickness bug. I've never known him to be ill like this. We've both been really ill. I've struggled to keep even water down so feel utterly exhausted today. The worst seems to have passed but I am a little worried about baby. Everything I've read seems to suggest stomach bugs are not dangerous. I've kept fluids up best I could and took paracetamol when I felt like I had a slight temperature. It has made me a bit more nervous about the scan on Saturday though. Xx

Catconfusion · 17/10/2019 08:40

@Kiki061190 not long now for you until your scan. Hopefully we'll all have happy news next week! Xx

sadtoday21 · 17/10/2019 13:07

@Catconfusion sorry to hear you've been so ill, that sounds terrible! I would be worried about fever as well, but you've absolutely done the right thing in taking paracetamol to bring it down and I'm sure baby is perfectly fine in there. Hope you feel better soon! And best of luck for Saturday, not long now Xxx.

@Kiki061190 I know, I totally get it. Feeling much the same as you. At least the weekend is coming fast! Sending you hugs!

Hello Everyone
Just reaching out! Wanted to talk to people who understand! I have my first pregnancy and first MC back in July and I am pregnant again! I couldn't believe it was so quick-- happy to know it can happen again for us
Super excited but nervous... this time feels different- trying not to give hopes up- but we are happy! I feel less worried and more of putting faith into God and whatever happens- happens -We didn't expect it - last pregnancy at 6 weeks my HCG was 19,000 and progesterone was little low 9. MY breast hurt SO MUCH last time and I had crazy cramping- and my emotions were all over the place I was a mess honestly.

With this pregnancy it is very early only knew because I missed my period, slight acid in stomach, hungry, some cramping here and there, nipples feel weird, almost no breast pain.. yet.... can anyone relate? WE want to be super happy--- but we know we need to wait and see how it goes.... any advice....

Catconfusion · 17/10/2019 17:21

Welcome @EPSpartyof3 and I'm sorry about your loss. All you can do is take each day as it comes and as you say hope for the best. Symptoms vary so much between women and between pregnancies. Some ladies feel no different and others feel horrendous. Both can mean a healthy baby. Are you able to book an early scan? I would maybe ask for progesterone pessaries if this was a problem before. Good luck! Xx

EPSpartyof3 · 17/10/2019 19:06

@Catconfusion I booked an appt with the midwife friday the 25th for a blood test that way they can judge the levels and we will talk
This time I’m not doing a scan until 8 weeks.. I want to try and let my body do what’s its going to- not that the transvaginal at 6 weeks last time had anything to do with the MC but I guess they are waiting ... thank you for responding - hard not to worry but I want to be happy

Kiki061190 · 17/10/2019 19:25

@Catconfusion Yes! How long until your scan? I’m trying to remain positive ♥️ Only 4 sleeps!

@EPSpartyof3 Welcome! What amazing news ♥️
