Starting a new thread for all of us that find ourselves pregnant again after one or more heartbreaking losses. I know it is really hard to join a pregnancy thread after miscarriage and we all fear the worst will happen again, but let's go on this journey together and hold hands along the way.

This is a safe place for all the ladies on the first pregnancy missed miscarriage thread and for any newcomers who want to join - you are all most welcome! All of the ladies on here have suffered one or more miscarriages and most of us have had particularly difficult losses, such as mmc and other complications. You don't need to be pregnant again to join - you are also most welcome if you have had a loss and are trying again. But we will be sharing scan photos and details of the new pregnancies, in case anyone might find that to be triggering.

Tagging @Catconfusion @Amanda81 @Kiki061190 @3204ECL @Babypending @Ginmonkey84 @MrsMGE and please add anyone else I may have left off. Without further ado, let's start the roll call.

About me: Age 31, trying for my first baby. Previous mmc at 12 weeks in February (hb stopped at 9+4), this turned out to be a partial molar pregnancy and I was monitored by CX hospital for three months. CP in March.

Now 9 weeks, EDD in March, if I make it that long. Oscillating between hope and extreme anxiety every day!

Hey @bananamonkey sorry to hear the fatigue is bad. Work sounds tough so hopefully you'll feel better soon. Not long until the scan! X

@3204ECL thanks I hope so too! X

Hey @fringeandtrainers Sorry you find yourself here but rest assured there's lots of support.

I guess for tough dating go from the day the mc happened. I think if you're moving I'd register with the new doctor and ask for a referral for a reassurance scan. Say you're anxious and unsure of how pregnant you are. The new GP will tell you what to do regarding the MW. X

The anxiety is very hard and I've come to realise it is what it is. Just take each day as it comes and remember your chances are very good. It's a completely new pregnancy. Good luck. X

@Kiki061190 I hope we are low risk but it's more common for older ladies to come out high. Also the sickness can skew the results. We're prepared though and more often than not a high risk result doesn't mean there's a problem. I've felt it important to prepare so I don't freak out X

Kiki061190 · 29/09/2019 17:51

@Catconfusion I know I’m not sure what to prepare myself for next Thursday. If it’s bad news I’m not quite sure how to take it, but I know I should be prepared for both. Quite a few people I know have had children at your age and some have went on to have a second after and they have had no issues ♥️

Catconfusion · 29/09/2019 18:06

@Kiki061190 I'm sure you'll be fine. Chances are very good. I'm fairly sure I'll be fine too. I just know the nhs tests are renowned for giving false positives for ladies over 40. I know it's pretty unlikely we'll actually have something to worry about but just want to be prepared. I've read a lot about it and I feel like I can stay calm until we've had the Harmony and know for sure. I know quite a few ladies who have had babies late too so I'm sure we'll be ok. The screening tests are just that little bit more nerve wracking because the risks do really jump up at 40. Xx

fringeandtrainers · 29/09/2019 18:38

@catconfusion thank you! Going to have a little research around GPs in the area!

Catconfusion · 29/09/2019 18:41

@fringeandtrainers no problem. Sometimes the GP specialisms are listed on the website. If you can find a gynae or obstetric specialist you might have more luck.

Kiki061190 · 30/09/2019 08:50

@Catconfusion Oooh I can’t believe our scans are this week! I’m getting ready for work and I’m a mixture of excitement and nervousness for this week!

Catconfusion · 30/09/2019 08:56

@Kiki061190 I know it's so exciting. I'm now 4 sleeps and you're 3.

So my sickness has improved now I'm back on Ranitidine but I've been up in the night with a sinus headache. My nose is sore and blocked. It's not a cold. I am prone to sinus infections so I'm hoping it's not that. I've had to keep putting my head over a bowl of hot water. Anyway other than that I'm excited about Friday now! Xx

Amanda81 · 30/09/2019 10:40

Good luck for your scans this week @Catconfusion and @Kiki061190 x

Kiki061190 · 30/09/2019 13:20

@Catconfusion Glad the sickness is better! Fingers crossed that’s the worst over for you. I know 3 sleeps ♥️

@Amanda81 thanks! It’s so exciting and nerve wracking!

Catconfusion · 30/09/2019 13:50

Thanks @Amanda81 ❤️

@Kiki061190 I spoke too soon. I've just spent the last hour vomiting. It's just so exhausting. I really hope it starts to ease soon. Maybe the tablets aren't helping. Xx

Kiki061190 · 30/09/2019 14:06

@Catconfusion Awwww so sorry you’re sick again. I still have waves of nausea but it’s definitely improving. I’m looking forward to eating an entire meal again!

Puppymum · 30/09/2019 16:52

Hi all, have been a bit quiet trying to just get through the weeks but have been following your stories.

I had my booking appt today, and cried the whole way through. I felt like an utter mess, the anxiety was just overwhelming being there all over again. There is only one midwife in my area and tbh I don't like her very much, but not entirely sure why! She did make me go through all the details of all my miscarriages which wasn't enjoyable. I guess it's necessary though. Now I'm just waiting on a 12w scan appt but I'll be 12w next week and she said there is unlikely to be any appts in the next few weeks. I was hoping she would refer me for another scan in the meantime but she said there is no point as all my early scans were fine.

How many weeks are you all actually going to be at your scans? Apart from the obvious miscarriage issue, is there a problem with having a later scan?

Catconfusion · 30/09/2019 16:54

Thanks @Kiki061190 it just came from nowhere. Luckily I'm feeling a bit better now. I bet it will be lovely to finish a meal and stop having waves of nausea.

I've not been able to get dressed properly in a few days as I've felt so rubbish. Today I got dressed and I'm a little shocked at how big my tummy is. I'm quite petite and about a size 10 normally. Thank God for maternity jeans! Xx

Hey @Puppymum I'm sorry your MW appointment was so traumatic. You could ring the hospital directly and see if they can fit you in. My letter got lost so mine was only booked two weeks ago. I'm 12 weeks today and my scan is on Friday.

I've had early scans at 4, 7, 9 and 11 weeks. The first was booked for another reason but found out I was pregnant just before. The others were at the EPAU. I'm really lucky I got offered fortnightly scans. They will see me again at 15 weeks as well. We might pay for a gender scan before the 20 week one.

What I will say is if you don't have your dating scan before 14 weeks they won't be able to do the combined screening tests for Downs Syndrome, Edwards and Pateau. Post 14 weeks they can do a different test but it's a bit less accurate. You could always pay for an NIPT privately now if you're able to. It's the most accurate and not available on the nhs. All depends on how concerned you are with screening. Xx

So12345 · 30/09/2019 17:50

Hi guys
Sorry you’ve been so unwell @Catconfusion. And sorry lots of you are waiting on scans anxiously.

Just a wee update, I went to the docs today. I had a nice lady doc who was very understanding. She felt there wasn’t any use giving me Progesterone, she felt it wouldn’t benefit me. She has referred me for an early scan though (6 wks), so now it’s the waiting game for me too. I’m glad I’m getting this scan.

I am feeling sick today, but I am also still spotting which is freaking me out. I just wish I had a crystal ball.

Can I ask @Catconfusion, what would they expect to see at 4 wks? I’ve always understood that 6 wks is earliest, but it must have been different for you? Please feel free not to answer if that’s too personal.

Everyone I’m also looking for advice. What should I be doing? I have to go to work, but at home should I be gently exercising, or resting...? Or is it just at this stage if I’m going to MC then there’s nothing I can/can’t do?

Catconfusion · 30/09/2019 18:10

@So12345 it's a shame about the progesterone but I guess go with what the doctor says. It's great she's referring you for a scan.

I had a scan organised at 4 weeks for something completely different. I had a suspected cyst on my ovary luckily ovaries were fine. I just happened to find out I was pregnant just before. In my case they could see the pregnancy sac had attached in the right place and my lining had thickened. It was good to know not ectopic but other than that there isn't much to see early on. At 6 weeks in most cases there is a heartbeat, fetal pole and yolk sack. Sometimes the heart hasn't quite kicked in at 6 weeks but by 6 and a half weeks should definitely be there so you might want to go in for the scan for just before 7 weeks.

As for preventing mc there isn't much you can do. Just go about your normal routine. If you're tired rest and eat as healthily as you can. If there is something wrong it's in most cases there at conception so unavoidable. Just take each day as it comes and try and relax when you can. Remember it's a different pregnancy and your chances are very good! Xx

Catconfusion · 30/09/2019 18:11

@So12345 oh and gentle exercise is fine. Some people carry on with their usual fitness routine but that's up to you. I personally felt more comfortable taking it a bit easier than normal as I was really tired. Xx

So12345 · 30/09/2019 18:30

@Catconfusion Thanks for your advice and all the info. I’ll see about holding off on the scan a weekish. What a waiting game! I’m glad to be at work. I’m a teacher, so I’m kept busy all day every day so I can’t dwell too much during the day.

3204ECL · 30/09/2019 18:38

@Catconfusion lovely bump 🤗

Kiki061190 · 30/09/2019 18:41

OMG @Catconfusion what a beautiful bump! ♥️ You are slim tho so maybe that’s why you’re showing earlier. It’s all a fab sign! I can’t wait to have a bump, just hoping Thursday is ok.

@Puppymum So sorry about your dating scan. I never understand why some areas require you to attend the booking app before sending a scan letter. I got both mines together in the post. I hope it gets sorted ASAP for you.

@So12345 Sorry you have started spotting. My midwife said this can be common in early pregnancy but so glad you are getting a scan. I had a scan at around 7 weeks for pain and I saw a heartbeat which all looked good. It’s so hard when it’s early to see much.

Cazzy198 · 30/09/2019 19:48

Hello,

Thank you so much for starting this thread.

I had a delayed miscarriage in May this year with my first pregnancy that absolutely devastated me and I struggled at work as a front line response police officer afterwards. I found out I was miscarriage a day before my nuchal scan and had just told all my friends and family which made it worse.

I have now found out I am pregnant again and I'm approximately 7 weeks. I feel unable to get excited about this pregnancy until I pass the 12 weeks. I have booked an early scan in 2 days time to try and put my mind at ease.

As if that wasn't enough, I also found out my mum is terminally ill with a maximum life expectancy of 1 year.

I'm trying to relax but I'm petrified my stress and fears will affect my pregnancy and I honestly dont know how I will cope if this one fails again.

Any tips to relax?

Puppymum · 30/09/2019 21:15

@So12345 if it is any reassurance, this pregnancy I spotted from the day my period was due for 3 weeks. Had a scan in the middle of that and all was fine. Had another scan a couple of weeks ago and still fine. There is never a guarantee but you really are unlikely to miscarry again.

@Cazzy198 welcome. And so sorry to hear about the horrible time you've been through a and are still going through. Everyone's story here is different and yet we share such similar feelings.
In terms of relaxing, the only thing I've found to genuinely work so far is a dog walk, or crap TV. Anyone else?

Catconfusion · 01/10/2019 08:09

Thanks @Kiki061190 and @3204ECL I just can't believe how big it is. I met a friend last night. First time out in the evening in 6 weeks. A couple of people asked how long I had left. I look about 6 months. Anyway I had a nice evening but was sick when I got home which wasn't so nice.

Not long now @Kiki061190 only two sleeps for you and three for me! Xx

@Cazzy198 I'm so sorry this happened to you and about your poor Mum. What's helped me is focusing on the things I do have control of. It can feel chaotic when traumatic things happen for no apparent reason. But there are lots of things we can control. I'd say get plenty of rest and find ways to relax. Can you take time off work? Might help just until you're a bit further along. I can imagine your 12 week scan will be triggering but once you're past that point you'll probably feel a bit better. Anyway I hope you're feeling better soon! Xx

Kiki061190 · 01/10/2019 12:15

@Cazzy198 Welcome! I also had a missed miscarriage in May also and I’m now 11 weeks pregnant. I completely understand as I’ve also struggled to be excited about this pregnancy. Will you have an early scan?

@Catconfusion 2 sleeps! I know it’s crazy!

Kiki061190 · 01/10/2019 12:16

Also @Catconfusion I can’t believe someone asked how long you had left!
