Pregnancy after Miscarriage

Starting a new thread for all of us that find ourselves pregnant again after one or more heartbreaking losses. I know it is really hard to join a pregnancy thread after miscarriage and we all fear the worst will happen again, but let's go on this journey together and hold hands along the way.

This is a safe place for all the ladies on the first pregnancy missed miscarriage thread and for any newcomers who want to join - you are all most welcome! All of the ladies on here have suffered one or more miscarriages and most of us have had particularly difficult losses, such as mmc and other complications. You don't need to be pregnant again to join - you are also most welcome if you have had a loss and are trying again. But we will be sharing scan photos and details of the new pregnancies, in case anyone might find that to be triggering.

Tagging @Catconfusion @Amanda81 @Kiki061190 @3204ECL @Babypending @Ginmonkey84 @MrsMGE and please add anyone else I may have left off. Without further ado, let's start the roll call.

About me: Age 31, trying for my first baby. Previous mmc at 12 weeks in February (hb stopped at 9+4), this turned out to be a partial molar pregnancy and I was monitored by CX hospital for three months. CP in March.

Now 9 weeks, EDD in March, if I make it that long. Oscillating between hope and extreme anxiety every day!

@OddshoesOddsocks I had an NHS scan at 7 weeks because I had some pain and saw a heartbeat but if I’m completely honest it has not eased my anxiety in the slightest! I saw a heartbeat in my previous pregnancy at just over 6 weeks and it did not develop past 8 weeks. Early scans can be great though because they can show you if the pregnancy is developing at the right rate!

sadtoday21 · 03/09/2019 11:19

@OddshoesOddsocks I had my first scan at 7 weeks and you should see a hb by then. Maybe wait until 7+5 if you can, just to be sure. As @Kiki061190 said, the scans only ease anxiety for a day, but I don't think I could have stopped myself from doing it every two weeks! For me, if something is wrong, I wanted to know sooner than later. Obviously you can't scan every two weeks for the whole pregnancy, but its what a lot of ladies do until they feel movement. I'm pretty sure I will break down and scan at 14 and 16 weeks, but I'm trying my best to hold out until 16. Xxx

@sadtoday21 How are you feeling today? I woke up feeling awful today, felt dizzy in the shower and then threw up this afternoon for the first time! Feel oddly better since throwing up!

sadtoday21 · 03/09/2019 15:01

Wow! Sorry to hear you were sick @Kiki061190, but that's really great that the morning sickness is finally kicking in! How many weeks are you now? The research says that as long as it kicks in before the end of 8 weeks then it signals decreased chance of mc. I'm really jealous! I've never had this symptom, don't know what's wrong with me, but just eating a ton and feeling absolutely fine. I hope that baby is ok for both of us!

Thanks for asking after me, it's day 2 of wait-for-the-test-results. Going a little out of my mind, if I'm honest, but doing my best to carry on with work. I only spent an hour researching NT measurements this morning ;).

@sadtoday21 I’m 7+5 today and having cramp as well! I feel better now though so might have been a one off! Your results will be absolutely fine I know it! ♥️♥️♥️♥️ We can’t help but worry though can we?

@Catconfusion How are you today?

Catconfusion · 03/09/2019 15:44

Hey @Kiki061190 I’m still very ill unfortunately. I’ve started the medication as I felt so down although it hasn’t done a thing this afternoon. DH and I had our 40 year old nhs check today and I had to sit with a sick bowel in the nurses room. The good news is I am very low risk for heart attack or stroke. Also definitely not diabetic although she did say there’s a small chance that could change as the pregnancy progresses. DH was very low risk too. My Dad has a heart attack at 44 and DHs dad died of a heart attack at 42 so we feel pretty relieved.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve not been well but it it helps ease anxiety it’s good. Sometimes it’s such a relief if it’s been building up for a while. I hope if it comes back it’s manageable. I’m feeling a bit desperate if I’m honest. xx

@sadtoday21 I really hope the next couple of days go quickly for you. I’ve got a feeling too it will be just fine. xx

Kiki061190 · 03/09/2019 15:58

Sorry you’ve been so unwell @Catconfusion! Great news about the results though, you must have been relieved. When is your next scan? I feel fine after being sick once. Unsure what brought it on!

Catconfusion · 03/09/2019 16:10

Thanks @Kiki061190 I need to ring up and book but probably early next week. I just can’t wait to make sure all is ok. Xx

OddshoesOddsocks · 04/09/2019 08:26

Thanks everyone! I’ll hold off for a bit I think, you’re right, they only ease anxiety for a day!

Bit of an odd one today. I’ve been getting brown spotting for over a week, I know that brown is old so should have minimal worry attached to it however this morning I passed a clot. No bleeding, no cramps and had a ‘clean wipe’ since... anyone had any experience?

Catconfusion · 04/09/2019 10:23

@OddshoesOddsocks I would go see your GP and get an emergency scan just to check all is ok. Your EPAU should see you if over 6 weeks and a heartbeat should be detectable. I’ve not had any bleeding but I know some ladies do and all is ok, even sometimes with clots. It’s worth knowing for sure to ease your mind. Good luck! Xx

Kiki061190 · 04/09/2019 10:41

@OddshoesOddsocks I would definitely call the EPAU and see if they can scan you. They are usually quite quick with this! You just want to make sure everything is ok!

@Catconfusion Are you any better today? I’m currently doing housework as the weather is miserable! Need to start packing for my holiday on Friday as well 😖

OddshoesOddsocks · 04/09/2019 11:29

Can I go if I’ve not been to the dr yet? I don’t know when I’ll be able to get there tbh, I don’t drive and it’s not accessible by bus!

Catconfusion · 04/09/2019 11:52

In my area access to EPAU is via GP referral. I’d call and speak to the GP. Say you’re pregnant and bleeding and can you have a referral to your early pregnancy unit for a scan. Failing that call the early pregnancy unit and tell them the situation. My unit will call the GP on my behalf if any problems with a referral. I wouldn’t bother with the midwife. In my experience they are reluctant to refer and don’t have as much power as the GP. I really hope you can get a scan to ease the worry. Xx

Catconfusion · 04/09/2019 11:52

Sorry forgot to tag you @OddshoesOddsocks

OddshoesOddsocks · 04/09/2019 13:39

Thanks @Catconfusion, the thing is that I’m not bleeding, no cramps, nothing! Ive had the brown blood when wiping for about a week, a little this morning with the clot and nothing since. I’m wondering if the clot was the source of the brown blood and now it’s out that’ll be the end of it. My symptoms are still here and I feel fine. There wasn’t even blood with the clot it was literally just a dry hardish clot on the tissue.

I’m hoping it was just a clot that was the source of the brown blood and nothing more sinister. I’ll ring the dr this afternoon and get booked in and see what they say x

Catconfusion · 04/09/2019 14:26

@OddshoesOddsocks technically it’s blood even if old blood. My EPAU said any kind of bleeding even when wiping should be investigated. I’m not saying there’s something wrong but you’re more likely to be seen if you describe it as bleeding or brown blood when wiping with a one off clot. I’m sure the chances are it’s just some old lining coming away to make way for baby. I hope they see you soon so you can relax a bit. Xx

sadtoday21 · 04/09/2019 14:31

@OddshoesOddsocks hope you get some insight into what's going on! As others have said, I would probably just go for a scan if I were you.

@Catconfusion how are you feeling today? Is your next scan coming up?

@Kiki061190 any more nausea?

@mommato3 how are you doing now that you must be nearing the end of the first trimester?

@3204ECL hope you are well! Feeling any more movement lately? How many weeks were you when it first started? And do you remember you nuchal fold measurement? You are at a very exciting point in the pregnancy!

@Amanda81 how's the pregnancy going? Any more preparations? Thinking of you xxx.

Day #3 of 4 here...2.5 hours to go until it's done.

Hey @sadtoday21 well done. You’re nearly there. Fantastic news and I can imagine highly unlikely you’ll get a call now.

A bit better thanks. I’m still feeling pretty nauseous though. I’m taking Cyclizine before bed and when I wake up to get me through the night and morning. I’m feeling pretty groggy when I come round though so holding off during the day. I’ll have a scan early next week so I’ll be 9 weeks by then. To be honest I can’t wait as the anxiety is creeping in again. Xx

Kiki061190 · 04/09/2019 15:19

@sadtoday21 no more sickness! I’ve been feeling pretty good today and have managed to get a lot of holiday prep done so I’m chuffed. You are past the hard bit of the wait, that phone ain’t going to ring! My OH cousin had a baby boy yesterday and she’s been posting pictures. He is just the sweetest! This has made my OH super excited for our baby but I’m still just trying to remind him this might not be our time. He’s so excited I think it’s going to hit him hard if it’s another mmc 😳

sadtoday21 · 04/09/2019 15:31

Glad to hear that @Catconfusion, although it still sounds a bit rough. The anxiety really does start to creep back in at 9 weeks! It did for me, anyway. And of course its close to your 10 week milestone, which probably doesn't help. I'm sure all will be well though, your chances are good now! Thinking of you xxx.

Aww @Kiki061190 I know what you mean all too well. DH is also super excited and constantly touching and talking to my "bump." He understands the risks and worries just as much as I do, or at least almost as much, but I can tell he already loves this baby after seeing her move around at 8 weeks and particularly since the 12 week scan. I hope we both make it through this time!

3204ECL · 04/09/2019 17:00

Hi @sadtoday21 I'm still only feeling flutters, sort of like the feeling when you get a twitch in your eye. No real pattern other than most mornings when I wake up! We're on holiday so routine has been a bit all over the place and I've been nicely distracted! They weren't able to take the nuchal fold measurement at our 12 week scan as baby wouldn't keep still, that's why I've had to have the downs test later at 16 weeks. Did they share the measurements with you on the day or do you get them as part of your results? Only one more day of phone watching, how are you doing other than the terrible waiting?

@Catconfusion so sorry you're having such a hard time but good news you've got a scan in for next week.

@Kiki061190 glad you are feeling better and hope you have a lovely holiday!

xxx

Kiki061190 · 04/09/2019 17:14

@sadtoday21 I know it’s so hard and I just don’t want to see him go through any more disappointment with it even though I know it’s not my fault.

sadtoday21 · 04/09/2019 17:17

Oh that's right @3204ECL, I forgot! Sorry about that. Did you get your results yet? They gave me the NT measurement of 1.5 mm, which is in normal range, but it doesn't mean much without the blood test (only 70% accurate until you add blood results, then accuracy goes up to 90%). Other than the waiting, I'm doing ok, thanks for asking! Just hungry :). Hope you are enjoying the vacation and staying nice and distracted! Will be so amazing when you feel those kicks starting in earnest, I think the flutterings generally start around 16 weeks and become kicks around 20ish, from what I've read. Xxx

OP posts:
3204ECL · 04/09/2019 17:34

@sadtoday21 yes it's seems quite varied on when people start feeling the movement. I have anterior placenta (at the front) as well so that can mask the kicks, certainly from being felt by DH for longer. Our letter didn't arrive before we came away but it should be there by the time we get home. I know the feeling on being hungry! I had no appetite in the first trimester and since about 13 weeks I've been hungry alllllll the time! We're on holiday in Italy and I've eaten some serious pizza and pasta! xxx

Amanda81 · 04/09/2019 18:21

Hey @sadtoday21 - thanks for asking after me. Not much to update on really, other than i saw my bump move this week from her kicking...it's great! I just love feeling her move. My PGP is getting a little better as I have found some things which help manage reduce movement in the pelvis...so that's good. It does flare up when I do too much. We bought some nursery furniture at the weekend which should be arriving in a few weeks!!! There's no hiding being pregnant now! My bump is growing and has moved up. Her kicks are higher and around my belly button as opposed to low in my pelvis. Getting very exciting!

You won't be getting a phone call...a measurement of 1.5mm is a good sign. Still, I can see why you would be anxious as you just want to know for sure xxx

Good to hear everybody else is coping and there are no major anxiety slips...thinking of you all @Catconfusion @3204ECL @Kiki061190 xxx

I would agree with the other ladies @OddshoesOddsocks - call your GP to see if you can get a referral. I had a scan at just over 6 weeks at the EPU and there was a heartbeat and feral pole. Any bleed should be investigated to rule out anything sinister and to ease any worries.
