My 34 week appointment was very similar - wee, blood pressure, quick bump measurement and heartbeat (which were then not recorded in my notes) and I was on my way. Luckily I managed to get hold of my normal midwife and get a consultant appointment next week so I'll hopefully be a bit better prepared (too much fluid + elective c section means I'm higher risk).

Snowflake9 · 17/07/2019 10:43

My midwife just isn't very friendly. I am going to call the surgery to ask if there is another midwife available. She just dismisses anything I say.

On another note. One of DHs acquaintances have named their little boy what we were going to call ours if it is a boy. Livid. We don't really hang out with them but they are in the same circle of friends.

DH brother is close to them, so know that if we call ours that it will be a huge thing.

Lexyness · 17/07/2019 11:46

Grrrr - at all of your responses - kinda glad it’s not just me but it’s still sh1tty for us all to be in the same boat tbh!
My notes say purpose of routine 36 week app is as follows:
Antenatal visit, CO monitoring, home birth risk assessment (I’m not allowed a home birth due to being high risk BUT at 34 weeks she agreed that a home birth kit would be my plan b because I live so far from hospital and have quick births), birth plan, living situation, family and friends, GBS, MRSA and re-weigh!
I had none of those things at my app, just the usual urine dipstick, bp and fetal heart rate and felt my stomach (I don’t get measured due to growth scans) then sent on my way! It’s frustrating because I have seen the same mw every fortnight since 16ish weeks and she has always been lovely, but this week seemed to be the important week and I felt dismissed 😞

Also @snowflake9 what a shame about the name situation - I had the same with my first and girls name - so glad he turned out to be a boy! xxx

PhoebeBear · 17/07/2019 12:53

@Lexyness I didn't even get a 36 week appointment 🙄 and it's my first!
I feel the same about my midwife though- she's lovely! So kind and always really down to earth

Lexyness · 17/07/2019 13:38

@PhoebeBear madness! Does your set of notes have a list of what appointments you should be offered? My notes say 34 & 38 week apps are standard but 36 week one as above. All the other non standard appointments have gone just as stated in my notes (bloods, vaccination etc)
It’s equally frustrating for me because I had to start my new medication today (previous meds nationally out of stock 😡) so we have no way of knowing how my body will take to these new ones - if I don’t cope with them I could end up needing to have this baby before I see MW next (fingers crossed all will be ok though!) would nice to be a little more prepared though just in case! x

BarryBarryTaylor · 17/07/2019 14:33

I’m so sorry to hear all your poor MW experiences. I won’t get too political but I think it’s down to NHS cuts.
My best pal is a midwife and I have been texting her non stop. She has been an incredible support.
My midwife is pretty good. I can call/text her whenever. We did birth plan at 34weeks and it was a fairly thorough appointment. My only gripe is that I have low iron and after a month of taking iron tablets it’s not improved but no one seems to know why or what to do about it, so it’s just being left...I brought some over the counter iron syrup so hopefully that helps.
My hospital do 36weeks scans, don’t know if that’s the norm everywhere, but that was really helpful. It was great to see baby again and the sonographer was really happy with everything.

I have another appointment at 38 weeks but I don’t think they will take my blood again at that one.
Hoping for a smooth sailing water birth.

kittytiggy · 17/07/2019 15:12

@BarryBarryTaylor - my big sister is also a midwife so I've been calling her just about everyday Grin. Let's just say she started off sympathetic and slowly lost patience.

Snowflake9 · 17/07/2019 20:21

Packed my hospital bag tonight! Do I need to wash all of baby's clothes? I am thinking yes but don't know if I am being over the top...

BarryBarryTaylor · 17/07/2019 20:40

snowflake I never did but I know that goes against advice

Xyzzzzz · 17/07/2019 20:52

I’m 36 weeks and find out my induction date on Friday! I have GD so need to go in early.

I washed all my baby’s clothes last week as I just wanted it done with.

misstime · 17/07/2019 21:09

Hi all,

I'm 35+4 today, due 17 August. Can't quite believe how quickly it's coming round! Some days when I'm too hot and comfortable I think it would be great if he came at 38 weeks but then I panic that is only just over two weeks away!

Any other FTMs still not quite taken it in that they'll have a baby soon?! Argh!

PhoebeBear · 17/07/2019 21:19

@misstime yes! I'm very impatient 😂 since I'm classed as term now I just wish he would come already, still feeling VERY huge and I can't wait to just get out of bed on a morning now without getting DP to roll me over haha

Snowflake9 · 17/07/2019 22:43

@misstime I am in complete denial!

I have had a pretty rubbish day. Can't wait for it to be over with.
@phoebebear that is so funny! My husband braces himself if I roll over lol.

Lexyness · 17/07/2019 23:39

@snowflake9 I can’t remember pre washing anything with my other 3 but this time the midwife actually asked me if I’d done it and looked horrified when I said no, so my mum took all the newborn stuff and washed it for me! I have since washed my pram covers (second hand) blankets, towels but I’ve not done the 0-3 months things because they look huge and I have small babies (although this girl feels and looks like a monster size compared to my others 😳)
@misstime all I’m getting from family and friends since the weekend is “anytime now” and as much as I’d love this baby out sooner rather than later I still can’t see her shifting for a while yet despite what they say! Only 36+1 though!
@Xyzzzzz I have consultant app on Friday too - last time it was all left up in the air as to elcs/induction etc! Hoping to be better informed this time! Fingers crossed in 48hours we will both know when these babies are coming lol!
@PhoebeBear I literally cannot roll over in bed now without holding onto the top of my headboard and pulling myself over, and getting out of bed is just as difficult! DH stood on my feet and pulled me up last night Cos I was like a beached whale and needed the loo 😳🤣 I think I need a crane nowadays 😝

kittytiggy · 18/07/2019 11:34

35+2 - due in 1 month and 2 days :) how is everyone?

BarryBarryTaylor · 18/07/2019 11:38

37 weeks today.
I’m hot and bothered. My husband is irritating me no end 😆
I feel like I need to finish work earlier than planned. I’m finding I have lower back pain regularly and I break a sweat just from walking to bathroom.
I also really want a cold glass of Prosecco and some stinky cheese. 😂😂 moan moan moan hahaha

Kathryn19 · 18/07/2019 12:00

34+6 and having a bad day after a really good week. Baby has been moving and attacking my ribs like mad, my bump and back are sore and I've barely slept. One of those how can I do 5 more weeks days... sure after some rest I'll feel a lot better though!
@BarryBarryTaylor I so want a nice cold glass of wine or G&T at the end of the day... not a big drinker but honestly could murder one these days!

BarryBarryTaylor · 18/07/2019 12:58

I am not either and I’m not a massive cheese eater. You just want what you can’t have! 😆

thepartysover · 18/07/2019 13:00

Hello all.

36 weeks today and starting to lose it. I don't remember being this uncomfortable in my other pregnancies. The thought of 4 - possibly 6! - more weeks if this is incredibly depressing. Especially as everyone takes one look at my bump and cheerfully declares "can't be long now!" Confused

Msd2416 · 18/07/2019 13:25

Currently 34+1 and i feel like a completly different person ive got so much energy this week ive reorganised the entire house and cleaned top to bottom. Still not sleeping so cleaning through the night as i find lying in bed is the most uncomfortable thing in the world!

kittytiggy · 18/07/2019 13:49

A pint of guinness would do my just fine Grin Not looking forward to my shift today Sad

@Msd2416 you go girl! Unfortunately can't relate

BarryBarryTaylor · 18/07/2019 13:57

I was hoping for this rush of energy you speak of...it hasn’t happened and I’m 37 weeks now so can’t see that it will 😂
I need to pack my hospital bag now.
I also need DH to put together the crib and the wardrobe.
Also need to figure out a name. Baby boy isn’t really suitable Grin

Lexyness · 18/07/2019 14:40

@thepartysover 36+2 here with dc4 and yup, agree with you entirely! Hoping the consultant tomorrow will say I can’t go past due date but who knows!

@Msd2416 yay, sound alike you’re nesting - totally can not relate to that at all 😭 housework has completely gone out the window in my house! Cleaned 1 bathroom this morning I’m between work shifts - nearly killed me, came home this afternoon & cleaned the other, sat on sofa and fell asleep! Dc1 just came home and woke me up! School run in a minute yet I feel I need another 12 hours sleep!

thepartysover · 18/07/2019 14:51

@Lexyness Here's hoping! I don't care whether they're old wives tales or not, come my due date I will be trying everything to get labour started.

Those of you without a name yet: I was known simply as "baby" for the first six weeks of my life. Probably not recommended, but there is time...

kittytiggy · 18/07/2019 17:21

I think we are going with Saskia but then I also like Lilia so I'm a bit Confused
