Hi!!

This week I have taken 4 pregnancy tests, all positive. I’m afraid to get too excited because it is so early. I’ll be 5 weeks tomorrow. I have no other signs of pregnancy so it doesn’t feel real yet. Anyone else in the same boat?

First pregnancy, so many questions but I can’t ask friends or family yet.

@mininionsteve how are you feeling this evening?

@Verity1989 what a great scan!

BirdIsland · 27/04/2019 20:32

@Verity1989 I bought some bands today, not sure yet if they're working or its my constant eating carbs/drinking Pepsi that's working! Going to keep trying them but I can't wear them at work as I don't wear long sleeves and they'll prompt waaay to many questions! Good to know they're working for you though, anything is worth a try.

mininionsteve · 28/04/2019 08:12

@ducksandacorns thanks for checking in. I'm still feeling really edgy. Guess I've just convinced myself of the worst. No more spotting or pains so that's a good sign. My first pregnancy ended in a mmc so I think experience is not letting me hold out much hope. Going to see the dr on Monday and try to get an early scan, although I may pay for one if I have to it will just ease my mind to know either way.

How is everyone doing today?

mininionsteve · 28/04/2019 08:19

To add tmi to my last message I just wiped and more brown tinged gunk. Sad

ducksandacorns · 28/04/2019 08:44

@mininionsteve I've had it too, how many weeks are you?

Pip231018 · 28/04/2019 08:47

@Verity1989 Ahhhh. That's a good picture! I am so pleased, 2 days isn't too bad. Better than 2 weeks early. I hope it was reassuring. Have you had your booking in app yet?

I am 7 weeks today and I told my parents. I've asked for silence until I reach 12 weeks. Walked in to my living room this morning and my mum is telling my auntie on FaceTime. This is where I get my inability to keep secrets from.

My mum is only in the UK for 3 weeks so thinking of booking another scan so she can see the baby, will be 9 weeks so going to have a collection of poor quality pictures of the tiny human. 😀

December2018 · 28/04/2019 08:52

@Verity1989 that's a very clear lovely little scan... looks like a little jelly baby 😍

December2018 · 28/04/2019 08:53

@mininionsteve if it's not bright red then I wouldn't worry hun, but if your really worried I'd get yourself checked out just for piece of mind

Tillyitshappeningagain · 28/04/2019 09:03

Congratulations to everyone on their BFP. Sorry for the long post...So on the 15th of Feb I had a medically managed miscarriage, we lost twins. It was my 5th miscarriage, we hadn’t been trying, myself and DH had decided before that pregnancy that we weren’t going to try anymore, we had a good life, we were going to carry on living it, so to discover a twin pregnancy was such a shock. I completed a Pregnancy test 3 weeks after medication and got a negative and was thankful that I could move on in my life and I didn’t have retained products (I’ve had that previously) anyway 50 days later no period, I tested and got a BFP. I contact EPU as I was worried that it was retained products so they scanned me early on 15th April and said I was early but had a new 5 week pregnancy!! I go back tomorrow for another scan and should be 7 weeks so should see a heartbeat. The thing is I’m totally terrified about tomorrow and almost don’t want to go. I’m just scared I’ll be told no heartbeat, even though I’m trying to not get excited a little part of me is. Im not sure about symptoms and am giggling everything. I have tender breasts and DH says terrible breath which I never normally have, I also feel like I have excessive saliva but no morning sickness, can you believe that I’m praying to be sick!!! I’m just so confused o have an interview on Tuesday for a secondment promotion at work it’s until April 2020, I really want it but don’t want to mess them around if I happen to be pregnant and leave it after 6 months as it wouldn’t be fair to the staff

Verity1989 · 28/04/2019 09:24

@Pip231018 your mum is like me haha. I'm pretty sure my mum has told people too even though I've sworn her to secrecy. She always rings me up and is like 'don't tell anyone this, it's a secret' and then she continues to tell me some random thing I don't care about about some random person I don't have any connection to. I'm like, yeah mum, I'm going to blast it over Facebook. And then she screams 'noooooo' at me down the phone. I don't even know these people! But yes. I'm sure my mum has also told people when I told her not to. And thankfully I'm sure my dad will be cross with her! Where does your mum live usually? I literally got my letter for my midwife appointment yesterday. 8th May! It says allow 2 hours for it. The only thing I'm dreading is the blood test. Last time they couldn't find a vein and were poking around for AGES.

@December2018 thank you! We thought it looked a bit like a monkey nut! The lady was very nice about it but had to do an internal scan in the end to get a nice clear picture. She was proper scooping around down there. Made me need a wee! Grin

Verity1989 · 28/04/2019 09:27

@Tillyitshappeningagain congrats on your BFP! And about the promotion! I'd say still go for it. So what if they have to get maternity leave cover for you, it's your right to take it and they can't deny it and it's unfair for you not to take your promotion just because you're having a baby! You go girl!

Verity1989 · 28/04/2019 09:35

@Enwi I'm about to email you re the Facebook group :)

mininionsteve · 28/04/2019 09:37

@ducksandacorns 7wks +1. My first pregnancy went down hill at 7 weeks although nothing was confirmed till around 9 and then I finally lost it at 11.

Clearly 7 is my doomed week!

Pip231018 · 28/04/2019 11:41

@Verity1989 My mum is the same. She was caught red handed and still didn't think she'd done anything wrong. She lives in France and she is back here as my sister is 39 weeks and ready to pop! Then here I come like 'Hey guys! Guess what?!'

Eurgh, I had my app this week. The midwife was super laid back and didn't tell me off for being overweight, she was so nice. I didn't eat before hand cos I was worried about my weight not really realising I was giving blood. So 2 attempts later, we just about managed to get some. My arm is an array of colours now. I did almost faint though, I was routing around in my bag and all I had was a spilled box of tic tacs. Lesson learnt, eat and don't be so worried all the time.

I'm now waiting for the 12 week scan letter, she already booked me in for my 16 week app to listen to the heartbeat so that is cute.

I am considering the Iona test after 10 weeks, it's just whether or not I can justify spending £400. I might see what the combined test comes back as and if it's worrying then do the Iona.

X

Verity1989 · 28/04/2019 12:03

@Pip231018 ahh bien sur! I'm super jealous of her not living in England!! Haha. I imagine she had a lovely surprise learning that you were pregnant too!

I'm also overweight. I'm just making the conscious effort to choose healthy options and smaller portions than usual. I've weighed myself last week and I'd lost 1kg! I see it as there's nothing I can do now apart from just try to eat better and go for more walks and drink more fluids!

I don't know if I would go for the Iona test. I guess it's just something I'll have to chat with my midwife about. I hope mine is nice too! I'm sure they deal with loads of nervous women! I've been reading up on how to make a blood test easier...keeping the arms super warm, drinking lots of fluids to be hydrated mostly. I think last time I had a blood test I had bare arms and the hospital had super cold air con! That's what I'm blaming haha

Pip231018 · 28/04/2019 13:16

@Verity1989 It has its plus points, free holidays, lots of good bread and a steady stream of French favourites with each visit. But then it has its downsides, I miss them and I worry if anything happens because I'm about 12 hours away (they live in the middle of no where so even flying isn't a quick option).

I am sure the midwife will be just as lovely, wear a thermal vest (even if we do be happening to have a heat wave) and take an emergency tic tac, ha! I'm still doing slimming world, except since Wednesday I've eaten all the wrong things, but I will be good again from tomorrow. Where are you? I'm in Manchester. X

IHD83 · 28/04/2019 14:36

Laying down in the stretcher at midwife’s room could help when she’s taking blood. I think I will ask if it’s possible in my next appointment...

jenningzx · 28/04/2019 16:01

Hi all. I'm new here. Got my BFP last week, only been TTC since end of March so super stoked. No symptoms as of yet apart from peeing a lot and backache.

Verity1989 · 28/04/2019 18:20

@IHD83 that's actually quite a good shout. I think I'll ask to do that.

@Pip231018 I can imagine it would be quite difficult being so far away. I moved away from my parents this year. first time I've ever not been about 10 mins drive from them. Although I'm still only 30 mins drive away from them but still! My mum used to pop in every day which could be quite annoying. Now I miss that. My husband doesn't though! I'm in Hertfordshire, in Stevenage having just moved from north London in December. I've never been to Manchester before! My friend used to live there and I still didn't visit! I actually always carry a cereal bar in my handbag because sometimes I can get really hangry. It's best for everyone haha.

Verity1989 · 28/04/2019 18:21

@jenningzx congratulations! The symptoms are great...not! My advice out of a very limited pool of advice is to get some travel sickness bands, they are really helping me!

badfurday · 28/04/2019 19:29

I'm having some brown spotting and thinking the worst 😕 had sex a week ago so hoping it may be that? Hopefully nothing worse. Can't go through another m/c.
Hope everyone else is good

EmeraldRubyShark · 28/04/2019 19:33

Brown spotting is scary, but when I asked my GP about spotting (I had red blood) he said that it’s totally normal and not a problem unless it becomes like a period/continues to develop. He said that it is no indication either way as to the health of the pregnancy or the chances of miscarriage! Hope you can get some medical advice and reassurance badfurday, are you gonna go see someone?

mum2DDB · 28/04/2019 22:05

@jenningzx Congratulations!! How far along are you? I had no symptoms and now 6 weeks 3 days, struggling with all day nausea and occasional sickness..so I’m assuming there is something growing inside me lol.
Don’t worry, the symptoms will definitely creep up on you!
Got my first appointment tomorrow, so now it can officially feel real, if that makes sense Hmm x

1990carey · 28/04/2019 22:09

@jenningzx congratulations! Yah I started off that way, back ache and peeing so much! Slowly over the last few weeks I've been getting very nauseous and I've gone off all my favourite foods and I'm so so so tired!!!!! Luckly no morning sickness, I dont think I'll get any either, my mum never did so fingers crossed I take after her lol

Ferii · 29/04/2019 07:42

@Tillyitshappeningagain OMG what a rollercoaster of emotions for you, I'm not surprised you feel so anxious about it. Conratualtions!

I think definitely go for the promotion, why wouldn't you? Being pregnant isn't messing anyone around. Your pregnancy wouldn't stop your partner from going for a promotion and so it shouldn't stop you either. I really would discourage you from mentioning at the interview though, I've had two friends denied promotions just for being pregnant - their bosses straight up said it and one of the bosses was a woman with kids! Unbelieveable.

Congratulations all round, I look forward to hearing about the interview and your pregnancy. :)
