Hiya peeps,

DP and I have once again had a discussion over spelling of LO's name...when he gets here lol.

We have settled on Konor Michal, Konor is my way of spelling it but dp says if it being spelt with a K then we should spell it Konnor, I say Konor.

Michal he won't even attempt to judge me on as it was my dads name....pronounced Mehal it is Polish.

Which way would you choose? I prefer Konor and dp Konnor...

I am abit of a bugger for changing spellings of names.

dd1 is Tegan but the correct spelling is Teagan and dd2 is Sidney but the correct spelling for a girl is Sydney.

Every name I choose I change the spelling to make it easier for when they are at school. If a name doesn't need the extra letters why have them?

type konnor in there, you'll see it's only really been in existence in even America since 2003 and is shooting up in popularity.
personally i wanted to check that my dd's name was unpopular rather than popular, iykwim? it's an old standard, no flashy mis-spellings.
go on Michal is totally cool and stylish.

JeremyVile · 07/07/2007 11:12

Oh ok, i stand corrected.
Its not actually you thats making it up, its already been made up by Americans.

Whooda thunk it?

Aitch · 07/07/2007 11:12

These days, if you want your child to have a unique name, you should something like John or Peter.

NKF · 07/07/2007 11:14

choose something

SoupDragon · 07/07/2007 11:15

Connor or Conor! It is indeed going to be a PITA for the rest of his life explaining that it's not spelt the usual way! It looks ridiculous spelt with a K (whereas Karl is a more legitimate spelling I think rather than just made up)

Oblomov · 07/07/2007 11:31

Ds's(3.5) new bf is called Billiye. Not Billy, then ? No one spells my name right. It is the PITA. And it is a completely normal name. Why do people do this to their children ?

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 11:32

The Mild, yes he did go out with my friends and I and still does. I don't have a problem with it, they don't and he doesn't. My friends involve him in the conversation and i don't see a problem with that...but as it has been said many times each to their own.... my way of living is not going to be everyones idea of right just as other peoples ways are not my idea of whats right. We are after all alljust people who do things our own way.

Oblomov · 07/07/2007 11:33

Michal is cool. And becasue of your dad. Forget the silly K thing.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 11:35

Oblo, i decided when I first found out i was pg that i would call him Konnor, and always spelt it with a K, Again it is down to personal choice. the original question was 1 or 2 N's not whether people thought it was stupid. I like it and I am keeping it.

He's going to have to spell his name for everyone for the rest of his life - it matters not whether it has 1 N or 2. I hope for your sake that he appreciates having to do that as much as you do. It does make you look ignorant, even if you say that you've done it deliberately. You are assuming that your son will feel the same way as you do, and that your feelings about wanting a unique name should override any inconvenience/ridicule that he will suffer.

Still any DIL will know what she has in store!

I think if you're hoping for a unique name, then Konnor, Konor, Connor isn't the way to go. It has a slightly trendy feel to me.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 11:47

People said the same when I chose Karl instead of Carl it hasn't made a whole heap of difference to my ds. He is used to saying Karl with a K. I am not alone in having a child with different name spelling. Heck some of the names I have seen are bizarre....i know of one child called "mercy of our lord jesus" she is known as Mercy, another is a boy called Miracle, another is Duran, Wolfgang,......and I was worried about 1 or 2 N's

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 11:49

NKF, I am not looking for a unique name. I like the name Connor but I like it spelt with a K. Not a major deal really...was just a choice between 1 or 2 n's nothing else.

OP posts:
NKF · 07/07/2007 11:49

Sorry, I thought you said you were looking for something a bit different.

BecklePhoenixBird · 07/07/2007 11:51

If you must spell it with a K then give the lad 2 N's.

Although I think spelling the name the common way is easier on the child. I was forever having to spell my surname out until I got married and it is a pain and my niece has an unusual spelling to her name and everyone pronounces it wrong (and she can never find a cup/pencil/piggy bank with her name on it - these things are important to kids)

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 11:51

NFK, i said

"I like names spelt differently."

Not that i wanted a unique name

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 11:52

ooppss meant nkf
