Hiya peeps,

DP and I have once again had a discussion over spelling of LO's name...when he gets here lol.

We have settled on Konor Michal, Konor is my way of spelling it but dp says if it being spelt with a K then we should spell it Konnor, I say Konor.

Michal he won't even attempt to judge me on as it was my dads name....pronounced Mehal it is Polish.

Which way would you choose? I prefer Konor and dp Konnor...

Good for you Ladyevenstar!!!
Now what about if the baby is a girl.....
Good Luck, and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!!

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/07/2007 11:15

Purple,
If by some miracle he turns out to be a girl then her name will be Lili-Mae after my nan. But scan says a boy.....

"I still stand my ground if I am sure it is what I want therefore making me the better person."

It's not about you though, is it? It's about your son being lumbered with a name spelling that will make him a laughing stock. Konnor is just... awful. Sorry, but it is. I'm not attacking you personally, I'm sure you're a lovely person and in all other areas of your life exercise very sound judgement.

As I see it, the function of a discussion board is not for everyone to say nice things all the time. You mention the "faceless" aspect of a discussion board - in my opinion, that's a good thing. It means people are much more honest than they would usually be. Sometimes, yes, honesty turns into meanness and that's a shame, but there you go. You might not have asked for opinions about the K spelling, but you don't get to decide how people are going to respond to your posts. That's kind of the point in a place like this.

with a name spelling that will make him a laughing stock

Why on earth will it make him a laughing stock? It isn't as if he will have to introduce himself as Konnor with a K all the time is it? he will be Konnor pronounced the same as Connor.....Hey its not my fault if some people are extremely small minded. As for it being an awful name so are many other names but people still call their children by their choice of names. I could understand all this uproar if I was going to call him something totally unusual....however I am choosing to change ONE letter in the spelling not make up a name completely. And as other posters have stated at the end of the day it is MY choice.

As i tell my son "IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL"
Seems some on here need to put that train of thought into practise......Would love to know some of these posters names and their childrens names....am sure there are some which I wouldn't like.

I stopped reading the thread half way through as way too long...

Definitely prefer Connor, which is a groegous Irish name. Konor sounds like a made up name.

Michal is lovely - similar to the Gaelic pronunciation
(Me-hawl).

NKF · 09/07/2007 12:51

LES - you have had a drubbing haven't you? Not really fair. I have to say I do not understand the name queries on MN. They're easy to take part in it because anyone can have an opinion on a name. But I can't see how the original poster - in this case you - can get anything out of it. As you say, you don't know anyone, nobody is part of your family, so why should their opinions regarding one N or two matter? Just out of curiosity, why ask?

MrsScavo · 09/07/2007 13:49

Blimey, I can't beleive this thread is still going!

If everyone in the world thought Konnor was the most fantstic name ever, than all baby boys would be called Konnor and it would be a confusing world.

I really don't see why people think it's so wrong to call a child Konnor. Having read this thread, I've got used to it. Infact I prefere it to Connor, as it doesn't remind me of Des O'Connor.

Choosing a persons name is really exciting, yet daunting experience. I know, I've done it three times. The last thing a pregnant woman needs is people telling her she will be burdening her unborn child.

Good luck LES!

MollyCoddle · 09/07/2007 22:04

Well said MrsScavo and Hatrick. I hereby declare this thread killed. Tis my speciality y'know.

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 13:41

Are you gonna pronounce it Kahn-ner then rather then Con-nor?
And yes, whoever said it before, Karl is the way you would spell Carl in Germany

TheMuppetMuggle · 23/07/2007 13:42

I'd have Konor - just for the fact its different

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 13:42

Oopps Mollycoddle
someone had let to this thread on another and I didn't end up reading the lot, lol....

Artichokes · 23/07/2007 13:46

Malfoynomore - Change your name. Pleeeaasee. I assume it is a spoiler and it is not fair on those of us who don't know what happend yet. Pretty please?

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 13:53

Artichokes...I ahve no idea if it's a spoiler though...because, well, i never read the book....my usual name is 3andnomore...and when choosing a HP themed name I added Malfoy to nomore...as I don't liek the character....

Artichokes · 23/07/2007 13:57

OH OK. Sorry. I just assumed it was a reference to the demise of Malfoy. V sorry to accuse an innocent!

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 13:59

lol...I can see how it mihgt make people believe it is a spoiler...if they don't know that they deal with 3andnomore, lol...

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/05/2008 00:24

Just so anyone interested knows I ended up calling him Zachary lol

OP posts:
mags98 · 22/05/2008 01:11

Now that is so much a better choice!

Nice name, congrats on little Zachary!

ZacharyQuack · 22/05/2008 06:44

Congratulations. Lovely name.

Perhaps you could get a puppy and call it Konnor? (Maybe a bitch, in honour of this thread )

Buda · 22/05/2008 09:06

Wow! Was wondering why this thread was resurrected!

Zachary is a great name.

finallypregnant · 22/05/2008 09:22

Say bollocks to everyone and go with what the 2 of you want but I'd still say Connor. As other posters have said it looks like you've mispelt his name with going with a K.

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/05/2008 09:47

Buda lol I had too much time on my hands last night anyone wants to see Zachary Charles Michal his photos are on my profile. he was a month early and was 5lb 15oz and sooooooooo tiny lol. he has made up for it now though!!!!
