Hiya peeps,

DP and I have once again had a discussion over spelling of LO's name...when he gets here lol.

We have settled on Konor Michal, Konor is my way of spelling it but dp says if it being spelt with a K then we should spell it Konnor, I say Konor.

Michal he won't even attempt to judge me on as it was my dads name....pronounced Mehal it is Polish.

Which way would you choose? I prefer Konor and dp Konnor...

Miaou, its not so much of a problem for me.... Ds always spells his name for people because when he or I say Karl they assume it is spelt with a C not a K.....

Ruby, i have an unusual first name and surname so am always having to spell it...guess I just got used to it at an early age.

WJ noooo not at all rude, don't worry.

I guess I will have to relent and accept 2 N's as I want the K lmao unless anyone can convince me that it does look ok with one N

I can't type what I really think of your spellings without offending you. Sorry. Don't do it.

kittywits · 07/07/2007 09:31

Sorry it looks stupid, it makes you look ignorant.

Miaou · 07/07/2007 09:32

SHR - me too! There was never anything with my name on when I was a kid and I got pretty miserable about it

I have nothing against unusual names btw - dd2 has a very unusual name - but like "Vaunda" people generally ask how to spell it rather than automatically misspelling it as they do mine.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:32

SHR,
I have had that prob all my life, and its not that much of a big deal. My ds has it as well as rarely do I see Karl spelt with a K on any personalised items....but thats ok as I have them made for him via these catalogues that do them.

Miaou · 07/07/2007 09:33

And in answer to your OP question - finally - I would go for Konnor if you absolutely have to have a K

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:33

Kitty why does it make me look ignorant to do something slightly different to everyone else?????

the single n lenghtens the vowel sound. Double N shortens it...
Konnor/Connor = Con-nor
Konor = Cone-nor

Spell it Connor.....

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:34

Miaou, thanks for the pleasent non rude reply lol..... I have to have the K just cos i want to lolol (thats the spoilt brat side of me) but ok I will go with the 2 N's

OP posts:
popsycal · 07/07/2007 09:35

Karl is a real name though...

cece · 07/07/2007 09:35

It makes it look like you can't spell.

I know children who have a known name with a made up spelling, people always snigger behind their backs about their parents ability to spell.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:35

Pops, it will be spelt Konnor....only changing one letter but I like it

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:36

CeCe, then that shows other peoples ignorance at not being able to accept something different from the norm doesn't it.

OP posts:
cece · 07/07/2007 09:38

I'm just saying what happens. But if you don't mind that then go for it.

popsycal · 07/07/2007 09:38

I once talk a 'Micheal'. I typed that correctly!

cece · 07/07/2007 09:40

do you mean taught pops?

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:40

Michal, is the way my dads name was spelt. It is Polish and pronounced MeHal the C is silent. So thats spelt correctly as well.

OP posts:
cece · 07/07/2007 09:41

Ah now if you are Polish and that is Polish spell it then that is different.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:43

CeCe, thats where my name is from as well.

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 09:45

Oh and just for those who say it shows I am ignorant....

cece [ yes

Evenstar - wasn't even referencinh your Michal (had forgotten about it tbh) - This boy was Michael (but 'Micheal')....

popsycal · 07/07/2007 09:50

Ah - so it is pronounced KAHN-er

bookwormmum · 07/07/2007 09:53

Spell it the way you like but don't be surprised if you get a few variations on cards and so forth! I like the name Connor but spelt the usual way - sorry.

My surname is another one that is frequently misspelt (even when I spell it for people), my middle name is hyphenated but rarely is on official forms and the name of the road I grew up in has that nasty English trick of silent letters and a different pronounication to how it looks. But he's your baby so you choose .

unknownrebelbang · 07/07/2007 09:54

Sorry, another vote for Connor. Spelling it with a K "looks" like you can't spell iykwim.

I don't mind unusual spellings generally, my name is an unusual spelling, some say naff, lol.

If you want a surname beginning with K, how about:

Kane
Karsten
Keanu
Keene
Keegan, Keagan
Keaton
Keith
Kelan, Kellan, Kellen
Kelsey
Kelvin
Kendall
Kendrick
Kenneth, Ken
Kent
Kenway
Kenyon
Kerry
Kerwin
Kevin, Kevan, Kavan
Kiefer
Kilby
Kilian
Kim
Kimball
Kin
Kingsley
Kingston
Kirby
Kirk
Kit
Kody
Konrad
Kurt
Kyle

(I realise you've made your mind up, but thought I'd spout my opinion anyway)
