Hi all,

Starting this thread in case anyone else whose early on with their first baby wanted to chat, and share experiences so far...

I’m having my first baby, and I’m 5wks +1, so early days! I’m having some symptoms (extreme tiredness, sore boobs, new hatred for prawn crackers 😂, headaches and terrible bloating). I’m an absolute nervous wreck about losing the baby, to which my husband tells me I have to try and think positive (and he’s right) but it’s such a worry! I take a test every 4-5 days to check (even though I know that’s not going to help)! We’ve booked in for a private early scan at 7+1 to check if everything’s okay.

Has anyone else booked in for an early scan? It feels like the wait to 12 weeks is totally unbearable!

How are all your symptoms & how are you all feeling?

X

I have sympathy @Laura1609 - I had no symptoms for a while and it just didn't feel real.

I now have a full checklist of symptoms. Nausea, fatigue, cramps and pinching, and as of today, constipation (lovely!), which may be my least favourite of all. Try to enjoy it! Some people just don't get sick.

Laura1609 · 28/11/2018 20:01

Thank you @RMarieClaire. How far along are you?

It’s so silly isn’t it? I’m sat bloody wishing I felt worse. Having said that this stretching feeling has got very uncomfortable tonight, need a hot water bottle!

Itsjustme55 · 29/11/2018 21:48

I’ve had positive and negative results but the doctor said if I am I would be 4 weeks.. today (5 days over due of period) I have had some dark red bleeding which was kind of stringy which has reduced to a smaller amount of light red blood.. anyone else had bleeding in early pregnancy? 🤞🏼

Frenchie6 · 30/11/2018 08:15

Can anyone give me some advise please. Who has had the flu vaccine and who hasn’t? I’m hearing really mixed reviews about it and I just don’t know what to do for the best?
I’ve read that it is linked to MC if you have had the vaccine more than once, but also read that if you don’t have and do get the flu or can cause birth defects!! Wanted to know everyone’s thoughts/knowledge on this please

RMarieClaire · 30/11/2018 08:49

@Frenchie6 - I was also wondering about this. I have a midwife appointment so I'm going to ask her. Will let you know!

I think the MC risk is negligible and unclear, but you could wait until after first trimester if you're concerned.

I'm on the fence as I've never had the flu and I'm generally a very healthy person, but I know this is no ordinary winter.

RMarieClaire · 30/11/2018 08:49

*i have a midwife appointment tomorrow I meant to say

Frenchie6 · 30/11/2018 09:05

@RMarieClaire good I’m so pleased I’m not alone with this. That would be great if you could relay what she says, I just don’t know what to do for the best!
How far along are you?

RMarieClaire · 01/12/2018 20:00

Hi @Frenchie6 - midwife said absolutely get the flu jab in first trimester. No risk. Then Whooping cough after 20 weeks.

HayleyHaystack · 01/12/2018 21:09

Hi @laura1609 my scan is also on the 20th! I had a 9-weeker at the EPU a few days ago after a bit of a bug (and paranoia). My symptoms come and go - I’ve felt fine all day. Like I’m not even pregnant. Terrified for the 20th. X

Itsjustme55 · 01/12/2018 21:21

Hi all!

I’m extremely confused! I was due on 7 days ago (which would make me 5 weeks today) I’ve had positive and negative tests, started bleeding 2 days ago, one doctor says I’m miscarrying, another (gynae) had a look and said my cervix is closed so not miss carrying.. I’m having major heartburn , hot flushes and found a small lump on my cervix yesterday.. feeling s if pulling also in my pelvis and lower belly... I have a ultrasound end of next week (seems like forever away!) anyone else had similar?! Thanks!🤞🏼

Laura1609 · 01/12/2018 22:08

@HayleyHaystack me too! I really want to be excited especially we’ve made the decision to share the news with immediate family and they’re all excitedly talking about it. I really hope it’s a lovely early Christmas present for both of us! x

HayleyHaystack · 02/12/2018 08:47

Oh me too @laura1609 ! It would be the best way to spend Xmas day. We haven’t told our families yet just because of a previous MC in April plus my family are massively OTT ...! Feel like I need to deal with my paranoia/worries before I can properly enjoy it - whenever that will be.. Have you had your booking in yet? Mine is Tues X

Laura1609 · 02/12/2018 09:20

@HayleyHaystack Mine is on Wednesday, not really sure what to expect.

Frenchie6 · 02/12/2018 10:20

RMarieClaire thank you for getting back to me with the outcome 😊

Youseethethingis · 02/12/2018 10:47

Can I join this gang? I just found out yesterday I’m 6 weeks pregnant, although with the mood swings, heartburn, constant urge to pee, nausea, sore boobs etc. I sort of half expected the second line at that point! We weren’t “trying” as such, just decided to take our chances. 3 positive tests so far and don’t really believe it’s real Confused would it be OTT of me to buy a stack of tests and test, say, thrice a day every day for the next 2 or 3 months? Grin

mrsof20118 · 02/12/2018 21:18

Welcome @Youseethethingis

farfromhome24 · 04/12/2018 00:33

@Frenchie6 @RMarieClaire I was wondering about the flu vaccines too, I'm still contemplating. When do you think is the "flu season" exactly? Is it worth getting it if we're past or half way through the "flu season"?
Ps: I'm new in the country

RMarieClaire · 04/12/2018 09:32

@farfromhome24 in the UK it's just starting, and runs through till March/April. There's lots of advertising for it at the moment so now seems a good time.

YorkieGirl18 · 04/12/2018 10:26

Hi, I'm a bit late to the party but hope you don't mind me joining in? I'm about 8 weeks with my first confirmed pregnancy and I'm a nervous wreck! We were casually TTC but have been for 2 years so it is all a bit of a shock.

I got a positive test last Thursday and booked in on Friday for an early scan as I panicked and the doctors and midwife didn't want to see me for a while. They looked at the dates of my last period and thought I was 5 weeks, even though I told them that it hadn't seemed like a proper period and I suspected it was longer. The scan confirmed I was 7 + 4 weeks (ish). But now the midwife is on holiday until the 10th so I feel like I'm in limbo.

I don't have many symptoms at the moment, other than sore boobs and the odd bit of cramp and twinging. Is that normal?? I also get really itchy on a night but I'm not sure if that is just central heating making my skin dry and I am reading too much into everything.

I'm scared and I keep bursting into tears at random things. (Damn David Attenboroughs Dynasties!!!)

Also I'm worried as I went to New York for a long weekend at about 5 weeks with the girls and more than a couple of cocktails were had. Obviously I had no idea I was pregnant and it didn't occur to me to check, like I said it had been 2 years with nothing, so it didn't even cross my mind! Should I let the doctor know and is there a test that they can do to check if that has had a bad effect?

Finally, we were meant to be going to abroad for Christmas (leaving in 2 weeks) and I just happened to come across Zika information which says not to go if you are pregnant, so now we are trying to rearrange to go somewhere else or risk looking all of our money - We run our own business so holidays are few and far between and this was a big thing for us. Obviously it is worth it but it is still a bit disappointing that we cant go at all. And it means we have to come up with an excuse to friends and family as to why we aren't going when it will still be too early to tell people!

Sorry this is really long but I don't have anyone else to offload to!

RMarieClaire · 04/12/2018 16:29

Congratulations @YorkieGirl18 - but god that sounds stressful. Don't worry about drinking you did in first couple of months. It happens. I got trollied the night before I got my bfp.

I do think changing your Christmas holiday is probably a good idea. Would insurance cover it?

Winona1 · 08/12/2018 10:27

Hey everyone! Need some advice... I'm going out for food and drinks Boxing Day with the girls. I'll be 11 weeks by then but don't want them to know. What excuse can I use for not drinking? Before becoming pregnant I drank and smoked so I'm finding it so difficult to hide and sick of avoiding events... TIA xx

Jummynbean · 08/12/2018 16:27

First of all congratulations! And secondly it sounds like were experiencing the same things (luckily I haven't had any head aches) only thing is I haven't had any scans or tests at all, so I actually have no idea how far along I am! Belly is getting bigger although I'm sure it's just bloating. Feels really odd that no one official has confirmed it yet though xxx

Hi Winona1,

I’ve had lots of things happening this month (being the Xmas party season) so I have pretended to have a water infection and there for am on antibiotics so not able to drink. This has gone down fine and no one has questioned it. Also have used the excuse of driving, or just haven’t made a big thing of it and gone to bar to order my own soft drinks so they are not aware. (Once they have had a couple they won’t even notice!)

RMarieClaire · 09/12/2018 20:57

@Winona1 I am having a similar panic about my work Christmas party this Thursday. I had a party two weeks ago and used driving. I now feel like if I say antibiotics or similar it will raise more suspicions.

I have told one friend in the team so hoping she'll be an ally and I can just say I'm not feeling well and pretend to be drinking slowly. We'll see how that works.

On Boxing Day, you could just say you're seriously hungover? Maybe have a Virgin Mary to start with and pretend it's bloody, then say you can't stomach it?
