Hi all,

Starting this thread in case anyone else whose early on with their first baby wanted to chat, and share experiences so far...

I’m having my first baby, and I’m 5wks +1, so early days! I’m having some symptoms (extreme tiredness, sore boobs, new hatred for prawn crackers 😂, headaches and terrible bloating). I’m an absolute nervous wreck about losing the baby, to which my husband tells me I have to try and think positive (and he’s right) but it’s such a worry! I take a test every 4-5 days to check (even though I know that’s not going to help)! We’ve booked in for a private early scan at 7+1 to check if everything’s okay.

Has anyone else booked in for an early scan? It feels like the wait to 12 weeks is totally unbearable!

How are all your symptoms & how are you all feeling?

X

@CLSMammy - congratulations. I know how you feel. I remember being surprised how the positive was slightly anticlimactic because I just couldn't stop thinking about how long the first trimester is and how common it is for something to go wrong. I think that's normal - we just have to get through it

MrsB19 · 09/11/2018 21:11

@CLSMammy I’m just the same. I’m 5+2 and every time I go for a wee I check in case I’ve bled, even though I know spotting is normal in pregnancy. I’m testing every few days to ‘check I’m still pregnant’ which I know is unlikely to tell me if I have a MMC or a CMC, at least not immediately. I’m so nervous about losing it and it’s on my mind a lot, one thing I’ve learnt pretty quickly is that google can scare you sh*itless about pregnancy that I’m trying to avoid researching too much, just being aware of the basic stuff for now. You shouldn’t feel like a fraud, it’s wonderful news and in some way pregnancy is rapidly feeling like a what will be will be part of life. I’ve heard a phrase on another thread, ‘today I’m pregnant and I’m happy’ and to some extent I’m taking that approach and taking every day as it comes. I’m also going for a scan at 7 weeks in search of some reassurance, there’s no way I could wait til 12 weeks! I’ve actually told my husband and my parents, my view was that I would want support no matter what happened, but that’s not right for everyone.

Thank you so much for the support! It has made me feel much better! I'm booked in for a scan at 6+6 as I carry a genetic disease and need to know my dates so we can get an early blood test. This makes everything even less certain, but at least I get my early scan! Good luck with everything!

RMarieClaire · 11/11/2018 20:15

Now 5+4 and getting a bit of nausea while at the same time getting bouts of crazy hunger - not a good mix! How's everyone else?

I have first midwife meeting tomorrow, when I'm guessing they'll take blood tests. We've also booked a verification scan for two weeks today. It's going to be a long two weeks!

MrsB19 · 11/11/2018 21:44

@RMarieClaire exactly the same as me (5+4). Strangely had no nausea yet (waiting on that to dawn on me) but lost appetite and the taste for anything sweet. We don’t have our midwife appt til 8+3 (30th Nov), but do have an early scan on 21st Nov, which I’m counting the days down too! Feels like forever. I’m not great with needles so dreading blood tests at the booking appt, best get used to it fast! Not sure what else to expect at the midwife appointment!

I'm 4+3. I've just seen some blood when I wiped. It's like the start of my period. When should I be worried about this?

RMarieClaire · 11/11/2018 22:15

Oh @CLSMammy that must be scary. However everything I've read suggests spotting is normal. So long as it doesn't increase in heaviness. Everything crossed for you.

ithinkillstayhereallday · 11/11/2018 22:22

Hi can I join?
I'm 6 weeks 4 days :-) I've had a mc at 12 weeks and 6 weeks already this year so I'm very anxious. Trying to focus on being pregnant today and making myself small targets! I am even a bit worried I've jinxed myself by joining this group :-( got a scan on Thursday :) and first midwife appt on 21st!

RMarieClaire · 12/11/2018 11:58

Hi @ithinkillstayhereallday - so sorry to hear about your MCs - hope this is the one for you. I know what you mean. OH and I haven't really spoken about the fact we're having a baby for fear something goes wrong, though we've looked at our financials which was terrifying (nursery is how much!?). I think this will be the longest 12 weeks of our life and it doesn't help I got my bfp at 9dpo so just extended time between then and the second trimester. Fx it's happy Christmas knees for all of us x

ithinkillstayhereallday · 12/11/2018 12:04

@RMarieClaire thank you :-) yes it's all so terrifyingly expensive isn't it! We looked at car seats the first time round.. £200 for a semi decent one!! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Anyway plenty of time for saving :-) time seems to stop once you've found out doesn't it 😂😂 I've just started reading online again about my babies progress in attempt to stem my fears :-)

CLSMammy · 13/11/2018 09:43

I'm pretty sure I've miscarried. The bleeding increased and is now like a totally normal period. My Mam says she bled like normal during her pregnancy, but I think I'm clutching at straws. Test is still positive but I know it will be for a week or so. I've booked in with GP for serial hcgs as I'd rather just know that wait and see. I spent all day yesterday inconsolable but feeling a bit better today now that I've had some sleep. Optimistic for next time and having to get the "everything happens for a reason" head on.

RMarieClaire · 13/11/2018 11:38

Oh @CLSMammy I'm so sorry to hear that. Sounds like you have absolutely the right attitude. You are at your most fertile after an MC, so hopefully you won't have to wait long and this will be meant to be.

CLSMammy · 13/11/2018 11:46

Thanks @RMarieClaire. I've still got the positive tests on the windowsill of the bathroom and can't face throwing them out yet. I hope so much that our time comes soon. I so enjoyed being pregnant even if it was only for a few short days.

TakingtheLeap · 13/11/2018 18:49

Hello all! I'm 8+5 - and I agree, the first trimester feels endless! I've had some queasiness but by far and away the strongest symptoms for me have been hunger, sore boobs, and lots of mood swings! I can cry at just about anything these days. Hmm

@Delilah7, I'm so glad to see you here! How is everything going? I remember you from TTC boards - you gave me some very kind reassurance when I was fretting about TTC taking a while. Got my BFP after 8 months of trying! Grin

RMarieClaire · 13/11/2018 19:55

@TakingtheLeap ah yes, the hunger has surprised me. I can swing from being close to being sick to being ravenous in a matter of seconds!

I'm also shattered. I'm usually a pretty active person: I go to the gym or for a run at least 5 or 6 times a week, but right now I'm struggling to just walk around. I know it's hormones so hoping it'll pass!

Delilah7 · 14/11/2018 07:34

@TakingtheLeap hi darling!! How exciting for you congrats! I'm very happy to be here. 6 weeks and 1 day. Furthest I've been! But only been pregnant twice including this time. Feeling VERY sick this morning. Just got in work made some toast and got some grapes. Took one bit of the toast and pretty much heaved.... hoping this is a good sign 😂😂xx

purplestar9 · 14/11/2018 13:28

I feel like maybe I'm a little too far along to fit into this thread, but I do like to keep up with you cause this is my first too.
i had my 16 week midwife appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat :)

Delilah7 · 14/11/2018 13:52

@purplestar9 yay!! How exciting zz

Sparkles1992 · 14/11/2018 22:27

Yes @Delilah7 seen a lovely strong heartbeat straight away. Attached my early scan pic x

RMarieClaire · 15/11/2018 10:18

Ah that's so lovely @Sparkles1992 - is W have a scan in 9 days. I'll be 7 weeks. Terrified and excited in equal measure. I so hope we see a heartbeat

Delilah7 · 15/11/2018 13:11

Measuring 4/5 weeks. Had a cry. Go back in 2 weeks.

farfromhome24 · 15/11/2018 14:42

Hi everyone! I'm 5+2 and it's my first time. I feel nauseous at the thought of food but get really hungry at odd times (an hour after lunch🤭). Really sore boobs and sometimes painful nipples. Getting teary eyed at everything, feeling nervous and lonely. I don't see my mw until after 8 weeks and also I'm in the middle of moving. Lots going on😖

RMarieClaire · 15/11/2018 15:38

@farfromhome24 that sounds familiar. The only way I can describe it is that I'm hungover 24/7!

ithinkillstayhereallday · 15/11/2018 17:00

Hello! Had my scan today (7 weeks ish!) and baby looked good and saw the heartbeat :-) very pleased but trying not to get toooo excited as I've had losses before :-) hope everyone is enjoying their morning (all day!) sickness ;-)

ithinkillstayhereallday · 15/11/2018 17:02

@Delilah7 just seen your post are you okay? Crossing my fingers for you that you either have a slow starter or maybe dates are slightly off with low implantation etc. Sending you hugs either way as I know from my past history how shit this bit is (sorry for swearing but sometimes it's the only way to describe these things!) 💐 xx
