Hi all,

Starting this thread in case anyone else whose early on with their first baby wanted to chat, and share experiences so far...

I’m having my first baby, and I’m 5wks +1, so early days! I’m having some symptoms (extreme tiredness, sore boobs, new hatred for prawn crackers 😂, headaches and terrible bloating). I’m an absolute nervous wreck about losing the baby, to which my husband tells me I have to try and think positive (and he’s right) but it’s such a worry! I take a test every 4-5 days to check (even though I know that’s not going to help)! We’ve booked in for a private early scan at 7+1 to check if everything’s okay.

Has anyone else booked in for an early scan? It feels like the wait to 12 weeks is totally unbearable!

How are all your symptoms & how are you all feeling?

X

I was exactly the same 😂 I thought oh dear god how long does this last?! Every time I'm sick I try to think it's a sign baby is healthy 😂😂😂😂

RMarieClaire · 25/11/2018 17:17

@HayleyHaystack ah yes, welcome to your life for the next few months. I've never felt so hungover! I had planned to allow myself a small glass of wine on special occasions or when it is hard not to, but I couldn't touch a drop without throwing up now. Really worried about the many Christmas parties for work ahead. Think the old antibiotics line will need to be played!

RMarieClaire · 25/11/2018 17:18

@Ithinkillstayhereallday congrats. I also had my early scan today - measuring a bit small based on LMP but about right based on when I think i ovulated. And a little heartbeat. Feel so relieved 😍

Ithinkillstayhereallday · 25/11/2018 17:34

@RMarieClaire oh that's great 😁 so nice isn't it! I'm nearly 9 weeks now 😁

llwynogbach · 25/11/2018 18:20

Got a positive test result today so about 4weeks 2 days, very early days! Very sore boobs and feeling sickly, other than that lots of wind 💨.

We're very excited as we were just about to start the IVF journey.

jodierobson · 25/11/2018 18:36

Hi! Hoping it's okay to jump on. I found out I was pregnant a week ago yesterday with my very first. GP says I'm about 6 weeks. To say I am terrified is an understatement. Every little twinge or feeling I get I'm scared it's a mc. I worry 24/7 I want more than anything for everything to be okay, as we all do! I've just booked an early scan, I'll be 8 weeks when I go for it, for the same reasons, just to ease my mind. I know me worrying and stressing is not going to help baby but I can't help it. Does anyone else agree that with your first your midwife appointment should be earlier? I have so many questions and worry's cos I've never gone through this before and my appointment isn't until the 18th dec so I have to sit with all these questions till then. Good luck to you all 💖😍👶🍼

mrsof20118 · 26/11/2018 07:03

@RMarieClaire so pleased the scan went well for you.

I took another clear blue digital weeks yesterday and it had gone up to the 2-3 weeks so it's given me some reassurance that things are progressing ok x

mrsof20118 · 26/11/2018 07:04

Hi @jodierobson and welcome. Agree about the first midwife appointment. It's a scary time and we are lucky to have these groups for support as you are just sort of left in limbo until then.

mrsof20118 · 26/11/2018 17:56

Had my second lot of bloods today for hcg so should get results tomorrow. Very nervous still

RMarieClaire · 27/11/2018 10:49

Good luck @mrsof20118 - hope the results go well for you.

I know a few of us are the same number of weeks - I'm week 8 today. Just wondered if other people are feeling as horrendous as I am!

Hello ladies please may I join? Congratulations on all of your pregnancies. I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and so far have felt pretty rotten! I can't stomach any hot foods or drinks so salads and water it is! First midwife appointment booked for the 6th. This is my first pregnancy so I have no idea what to expect - hence coming here to learn from all of you! We are waiting until 12 weeks to tell family and friends! Xx

RMarieClaire · 27/11/2018 13:52

Congrats @CleoLane1 - not long to go now. Will be a lovely Christmas present for your family!

toritori · 27/11/2018 18:44

Hey this is my first post on here. I know I’ve kinda missed the bus a bit but I just needed reassuring that I’m not going through this alone.
I’m 6+4 and 30 years old. I have no friends really and I’m a self employed dog walker so I barely have human contact. I just feel so miserable and not full of joy and happiness like I expected I would be. I have the most crippling nausea which lasts 24 hours a day and I’m realllly struggling to eat anything at all, which makes it worse.
I wish I could be sick so I could have some relief!
I struggle with anxiety which, when bad, controls my food intake and I can go weeks without a single crumb (bad I know but I’m well accustomed to the feeling). I haven’t felt particularly anxious since being pregnant but the sickness is seriously effecting my ability to function on a day to day basis and my energy levels are so drastically low I literally can’t lift my head off the pillow.
Has anyone else felt this rough and will it pass cause I am SO fed up already xx

mrsof20118 · 27/11/2018 19:19

Results look promising. 15dpo 585 and 19dpo 2118

HayleyHaystack · 27/11/2018 20:54

Hi @Toritori Smile firstly, congrats! So sorry about the Nausea - there’s so many posts on here about it, you will pick up some great tips and you’re definitely not alone. Have you had a chat with your GP about how you’re feeling? I fully understand the ‘not being filled with the joys of spring’ bit - I’m almost 9 weeks and feel only worry no excitement. But there are some areas you’ve mentioned where I think I’d would be beneficial to talk through with your GP or a midwife. Your surgery may have antenatal clinic.
We’re all in this together, please don’t feel alone. Have you told your partner how you feel? X Flowers

RMarieClaire · 27/11/2018 20:58

@toritori firstly congratulations but I'm sorry to hear you're struggling.

In terms of symptoms, I'm similar. I feel close to throwing up for most of the day, but I have a seriously strong stomach - thanks to years of bad white wine I suspect - so I've not been sick. Please try to eat if you can. I find that eating makes me feel better, even if my mind thinks that's crazy.

I had a private scan on Sunday and It really made it all feel real and the sickness worth it.

Can you talk to the baby's father or your family about your feelings? Hopefully there will be a localism NCT group to you and that will give you an opportunity to meet people in a similar situation to you. If not, I find the Mumsnet network really welcoming and supportive.

HayleyHaystack · 27/11/2018 21:00

Hi @cleolane1 Smile Sounds like I’m pretty similar to you, I’ll be 9 weeks tomorrow and my first midwife app is the 4th. Second pregnancy but I didn’t make it this far last time so feeling very nervous. Second scan tomorrow at the EPU. We are also planning to tell family at Christmas! My 12 week is the 20th so fingers crossed for happy Xmas news for us

CleoLane1 · 27/11/2018 21:05

@hayleyhaystack congratulations!! and good look for your first set of appointments! I am sorry your last pregnancy didn't work out. Little Christmas present for our families eh! Hope you're feeling ok xxx

Frenchie6 · 27/11/2018 22:02

Hi all,

I’m currently 5+2 and keep getting these stomach cramps that wake me up in the night and get me to the point where I think I’m going to be sick but I’m not.

They only tend to last about 5 minutes then go away again. Some days it will happen a couple of times and some days it won’t happen at all. I wondered if anyone else is experiencing this? This is my first pregnancy and can’t help but think the worst when they come on!
When reading up on morning sickness it doesn’t seem the same as this, so wondered if anyone has had this and it’s turns out to be morning sickness.

Thanks all x

RMarieClaire · 27/11/2018 22:52

Hi @Frenchie6 I've not had this but I have had cramps, which my gp.says is normal. And this week a real sense of my stomach muscles tearing when I move in certain ways.

Worth mentioning to your dr but FX all normal!

mimixvx · 28/11/2018 04:59

Hi, I'm 8+4 and found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks!

This is my first pregnancy and honestly never thought I'd feel this sick so early. My "morning" sickness has been terrible especially when walking around I have to stop to be sick.

I've had a threatened miscarriage and ectopic so have been given an early scan but turns out everything was ok but it's very scary with every pain and feeling you've never had before it makes you worry so much :( hoping the sickness subsides so I can eat as I'm hardly having anything in my system.

Has anyone got any tips to lower the sickness and build my appetite?

RMarieClaire · 28/11/2018 07:00

Congratulations @mimixvx! I feel you with the sickness. I'm trying to have small meals 6 or 7 times a day, as opposed to 3 normal meals. I have also found that if I eat when I begin to feel a bit ropey, or before I'm due to travel, that helps.

Also get as much sleep as you can. The more I sleep the better I seem to feel, though easier said than done during the working week.

versace · 28/11/2018 17:13

@RMarieClaire thank you you've put me at ease a little! It's such tiring work haha.
My doctors have put me on codeine and it just knocks me out but I'm constantly tired it's the worst :-(

Laura1609 · 28/11/2018 18:54

Hi all

I’ll jump in too. I’m around 9 weeks (not sure exactly as ended up falling pregnant without having a period after coming off the pill in July). I had a scan at the local EPU last week and all was well. That hasn’t stopped me worrying of course; my symptoms are so minimal, no nausea, tiredness or food aversions. The only thing I’ve had is sore boobs but even they have calmed down now. This week I’ve had some sharp pulling pains in my pelvis and abdomen which my midwife told me is the uterus stretching but I’m still convinced I’ll go to my 12 week scan on 20th December and hear bad news. Anyone else finding experiencing no symptoms? I feel like I’m wishing for them so I can feel pregnant because right now I’m feeling pretty normal! x
