@Buttercup53 I've already got a lot of baby things. Try looking on Facebook marketplace, saved a small fortune on there so far. And for clothes I've found car boots to be really good value, there's one about 30 minutes away from me where a charity sells nothing but baby clothes, you might be lucky to find something similar.

Buttercup53 · 17/07/2018 20:36

@cryptonaut I think I was really naieve thinking we’d be able to buy everything new. Thankfully my parents are being extremely generous but it’s not like they’re wealthy, they just don’t want us to go without. I’m just gonna have to realign my expectations (like I have for the rest of the pregnancy!) and accept that if you’re not rich you have to buy used! It’s just another case of expectation versus reality!

FirstTimeBumps · 17/07/2018 21:10

@cryptonaut are you definitely going to find out? I just sort of assumed by OH would want to know too but then he was like no a surprise is better. Talked myself into going along with not finding out but then discovered that apparently not finding out can make labour slightly easier (probably psychologically) because there's a surprise waiting at the end of it. Had my 16 week appointment today (at 15+6) and midwife let us listen to the heartbeat even though apparently they're not meat to in our area anymore, something about unnecessarily worrying if they can't locate it but she said she had been doing it for years and would be able to. I kept getting confused as to why everyone was talking about scans but I've just seen that everyone pretty much has a late Jan due date. I'm due January 2nd after having mine brought forward from the 7th at my 12 week scan. Hoping to go late or early, jealous of everyone else's not-around-christmas-and-new-year due dates Smile

purplestrawberry2 · 17/07/2018 22:23

My due date is 19th Jan but huge possibility twins will be induced /csection early - bang on Christmas time! My timing is terrible Grin
We have bought a few bits and bobs and a cot second hand - basically we had no money anyway and finding out its twins has really changed our plans on what we can afford. Im basically scouring facebook marketplace for bargains!

FuckMyUterus · 17/07/2018 23:14

cloud that's a girl ❤️

FirstTimeBumps · 17/07/2018 23:44

How does the nub theory work. I don't even know what to look at. I was convinced my 12 week scan sort of shadowed that part!

purplesmiler · 18/07/2018 03:35

On to my second cold of this pregnancy, thought it was hayfever initially but really struggling to sleep tonight. Sat drinking blackcurrant before I try to sleep again and feeling lousy.

I'm going to be buying some things second hand we have a good charity shop near by. Our financial situation changed quite a lot a few months ago so even more of a bargain hunter than I was before.

Thamantha · 18/07/2018 06:18

@FirstTimeBumps my husband and I agreed that we will wait until birth to find out whether our kid is biologically a girl or a boy. We hope it will not make any difference to how we raise them. I do not know if we will manage to resist the temptation to find out everything we can about our baby though.

jennac · 18/07/2018 06:39

@FirstTimeBumps aw that's amazing that you got to hear the heartbeat!!! Bet that was so nice. I have my appointment next week (due 1st Jan) and I really hope my midwife does that! What else happened at the appointment?xx

FirstTimeBumps · 18/07/2018 07:03

@purplesmiler I had a cold a few weeks ago when it was ridiculously hot and was fuming. Got into work yesterday to find the girl I was taking over from was ill. Spent 45 minutes disinfecting everything! Not doing that again.

@Thamantha think we're settled that we won't find our. I can't bare the colour "lemon" and green is not really great either so I'm going with neutrals. My auntie asked what colours we would like, felt a bit weird saying neutrals and coffee colours for an baby haha.

@jennac just checked a water sample for protein, blood pressure, and talked about future appointments and classes to book into. It's worth asking if they don't offer to check to see if they can hear heartbeat but just remember they don't always find it this early. Hope you get to hear it though. My MW said there's too long between scans and with there being no kicks yet, it helps reassure mum's to be so she can't understand why they've stopped it x

purplesmiler · 19/07/2018 13:49

Gosh found the thread 3 pages down this site moves so fast.

How are you all doing ladies?

I'm hoping my cold is on it's way out I've had two rough nights sleep and really tired. Think I've had some stretching today as felt like a stitch and the odd bit of nausea. Symptoms calming does worry me in some ways but scan is getting closer.

Buttercup53 · 19/07/2018 14:38

I wanted to ask you guys about ‘heavy lifting’ during pregnancy. First thing my mum said to me was ‘no more heavy lifting’ and work (office based) is being really strict about me lifting or pushing anything (if my HR person even sees me near a door she opens and holds it for me - they are quite heavy). I’m just wondering what actually counts as being too heavy? I still carry my handbag every day, and I have to lug my large laptop and stuff into work. My husband carries the main shopping in from the car, but I’m still picking up top up shops which include large cartons of milk etc., so it makes one singular fairly heavy bag. I’m just worried about messing up my back (it hurts now after bringing some shopping home) and also if heavy lifting can do any other damage - would it just be to me, or could it harm the baby, too? Feel like it’s another thing I don’t have a clue about which sounds basic but isn’t! I basically don’t want to be a wuss and ask for help when I don’t need to, but also don’t want to make a wrong judgement.

purplesmiler · 19/07/2018 14:57

@Buttercup53 my understanding is the advice is not to heavy lift due to issues it can cause for your back which already has the extra strain. My DH doesnt let me carry anything when he is with me and My Mum is also quite clear that she will carry any shopping bags etc. The reality is when I am on my own like you I have to carry heavy bags, this morning I had about 4 big bottles in a bag along with some other bits. I do only walk very short distances when I have bags though. I think as your pregnancy progresses you will need to ask for support re your work bag/laptop so you arent moving it around daily for distances.

FirstTimeBumps · 19/07/2018 16:56

@Buttercup53 I think there's also an issue with the hormone relaxin having an effect on other ligaments not just muscles around bump and making you more prone to pulled muscles.

Buttercup53 · 19/07/2018 17:10

Thanks guys, I’m glad it’s not something that can effect the actual pregnancy. I’ll try to avoid lifting what I don’t need to but will stop worrying about lifting anything!

TheCag · 19/07/2018 22:04

@cloud9889 looks very much like a girl!

purplesmiler · 20/07/2018 07:30

Another rubbish nights sleep for me this cold is lingering around too. I noticed my boobs were crazily veiny yesterday and the tenderness has come back.

Buttercup53 · 20/07/2018 13:08

@purplesmiler I’m sorry you’re still suffering, I read that pregnancy can cause swollen sinuses as well so you might also be experiencing that, I keep waking up thinking I’ve got a cold but thankfully it wears off after a few hours.

So so fed up of feeling sick! Stomach keeps rolling and then getting really acidic. Thought I’d be out of the woods by now. Think I need to get serious about what I’m eating as I’m sure some food is causing it. I’m normally very healthy and cook quite well, but the tiredness, heat and sickness makes me just want to eat quick and easy meals, which unfortunately causes an endless cycle of feeling crap. Can anyone recommend any pregnancy cookbooks?

sexnotgender · 20/07/2018 13:19

Hello! Sorry been AWOL, been crazy busy and basically got my husbands whole family staying with me, it’s utterly hideous Sad
I’m exhausted and have had a few little breakdowns as I’m struggling to cope.
I’m an introvert and need time and space to recharge and there’s literally someone in every fucking room I go into. Add on 2 children who SCREAM morning, noon and night and I’m ready to run away.
Anxiety is through the roof.

Sorry for the moan but totally demented.

sexnotgender · 20/07/2018 13:21

Not pregnancy specific buttercup but I love Sabrina Ghayour’s cookbooks. She is British/Iranian I think and cooks delicious food.

YourHandInMyHand · 20/07/2018 13:34

Hi everyone please can I join the thread? Smile

I'm due 9th Jan, though maybe slightly earlier I think as will be having a C-section.

I'm starting again totally from scratch, my first child is now 13! Shock

I'm shocked at how big and tired I feel so early on. My first couple of months were taken over with hyperemesis so I was very poorly and in and out of hospital. I now seem to have a good meds combo keeping that under control though thank god but the chunk of time I've been laid up has left me feeling very weak and feeble.

I'm also feeling rather plump. Wasn't skinny to begin with and my boobs have gone up at least two sizes, and people keep saying I'm showing, which I'm finding embarrassing as I think it's more fatness than baby ha ha.

sexnotgender · 20/07/2018 13:40

Welcome yourhandinmyhand, my other child is 14.5 she I knew how you feel!

chickita04 · 20/07/2018 19:53

Hey...
So I've had a really shity day today.
Was up most of the night which is nothing new as I haven't slept in weeks. But had a horrendous migraine through the night and most of today. Obviously being pregnant you can't take much. Work was very difficult to get through not sure how I did it! But I work from home and was with my last client when I heard my partner pull up which was such a relief cuz I needed a cuddle allllll day! Got back in the house and he'd gone to the pub with work friends... 😭 I'm so emotional it's frustrating! Just wish I could have one good nights sleep and feel a bit more human .....

Anyone else suffering with migraines?

Wowthisisreal · 20/07/2018 20:40

Ladies I have woken up today with horrific back pain it's mid to upper back (not lower, which I might have expected) and it is 😫😫😫. It hurts to carry things, pick things up, to walk - even breathing hurts!!

I'm struggling to see how it can be pregnancy related - but apparently everything can be connected in some way. I've taken some paracetamol and tried to sleep on it this afternoon / evening but no improvement.

Could it be Pregnancy or have I just slept on it badly?

Wowthisisreal · 20/07/2018 20:43

@chickita04 I did earlier on and I feel your pain!! Paracetamol, water and sleep! It's rubbish but it's the only thing you can do.

One of my friends suggested ice packs in the bed for an hour or so before you get in. Game changer!
