@purplesmiler omg the headaches! I thought it was because I’d gone back to work and was looking at a screen continuously but I’ve had a headache every day for the last 7 days, and it’s so draining! Drinking water constantly, but nothing other than sleep seems to help. So wish I could take ibuprofen because it’d clear it instantly, paracetamol just seems to give me reflux and that’s it.

I have my scan on Wednesday and I’m actually quite excited. I’ve found this pregnancy extremely difficult so far, not really enjoyed any of it tbh as I’ve found it all very overwhelming, so to find myself excited about this is actually a really nice feeling. Not looking forward to downing a pint of water by 8.30 though.

Jigglyjugs · 02/07/2018 09:39

This heat is so intense, I usually love it but can't stay in it at all. I just feel headachy and dizzy - glad it's not just me but at the same time, totally wish I could enjoy it and not feel so rubbish!

@buttercup53 I wish could take it too, ve always found paracetamol has always been quite hit and miss. So exciting to have your scan this week! Oh Yes, the full bladder thing .... I need to pee every 5 seconds as it is!

Sunnybuttercup · 02/07/2018 10:13

Thanks @InDreamland, @Janefx40 and @purplesmiler – I’ll just wait a bit for now, and give the student midwife thing a bit more thought…but oh lordy, Janefx40 – three junior doctors all crowding round to peer down your speculum does sound a little awkward!! Hehe, thanks for sharing that

cryptonaut · 02/07/2018 11:42

Currently sat on a plane waiting to take off for a work trip. Not looking forward to it. Had a really hard day emotionally yesterday, it's a very very long story but I'm still very upset and feel like the mood isn't ever going to lift. Ended up crying myself to sleep last night, woke up this morning feeling like it was all a bad dream but unfortunately not. Really hope I can cheer up soon, going to be really embarrassing if I suddenly break down in tears when giving presentations to customers over the next few days.

Wowthisisreal · 02/07/2018 12:16

Hope everything is ok @cryptonaut?

I'm kind of glad I am not the only one suffering with headaches. I'm also having crazy disrupted sleep. Waking up at 1/2/3 in the morning for no particular reason and then struggling to get back to sleep.

How has everyone approached / will approach telling work? I'm 11 Weeks on Friday. I'm worried it is really obvious to my colleague (who I work with in an office on our own on client site) but if I tell her I need to tell manager and then they will need to tell the client. Im also concerned she will let slip to the client. I'm also friends with a few colleagues on social media - although I don't think that's an issue yet.

purplesmiler · 02/07/2018 14:05

@cryptonaut sending hugs hope you start feeling better.

@Wowthisisreal I wake a number of times too. The heat doesn't help but with me it's often when I change position as well as the additional toilet trips.

I seem to have been really loose at the toilet the past few days which has made being out and about a challenge.

Jigglyjugs · 02/07/2018 14:37

@cryptonaut that doesn't sound like a great weekend, I hope the rest of your day has been a bit better! Hopefully you'll get a good chance to rest between presentations?
@wowthisisreal I told my boss on Friday as I had just received my scan date and would need the morning off and as I'm the only employee, I thought I'd be nice and let them know well in advance to sort it out! Plus what with this heat and feeling so tired, I've got barely any energy to be running around after the kids, so thankfully he was lovely and assured me that if there is anything I can't do then it's fine! And to just make them do it Grin
Yep, I don't think my toilet trips have been anything normal for a good few weeks, really quite annoying! Although I don't think my cheese and carb consumption are helping Hmm

purplesmiler · 02/07/2018 14:44

@Jigglyjugs oh yes carbs and cheese have been a must for me too lol trying to ensure I get my veg/fruit too but dont always get the balance right.

Janefx40 · 02/07/2018 15:24

@cryptonaut I'm so sorry to hear you've had such a tough time. Hoping the work trip ends up being a positive distraction and not too draining.

It is reassuring that everyone seems to be headachey - tho I'm sorry you are suffering too - I was promised I would have fewer headaches in pregnancy but doesn't seem that way.

@Wowthisisreal My boss has known from day 1 because I did IVF so she was aware of the whole procedure - it was very odd having to confide something so personal with your manager! I even had to talk about my bloody menstrual cycle because it affected all the timings. I work in a very supportive organisation tho and a supportive sector in general so it has been ok. Good luck with having the conversation

cryptonaut · 02/07/2018 16:53

Sat in my hotel room now. Resting up for the first presentations tomorrow. Had a few teary moments on the plane, some screaming kids and a large rowdy group of holiday goers didn't help.

Also been having headaches which has been worse in the heat. Been drinking as much water as my body will allow especially when in the sun but it's not preventing them.

@Wowthisisreal I told my boss the Monday following finding out/telling DH/seeing the doctor. He's the only one at work who knows so far and the reason I told him is because of the nature of my work (all the travel, customer meetings etc) and I needed him to understand ahead of time if I had to refuse anything, luckily I haven't needed to so far. I didn't beat around the bush about it, I just told him I needed to speak to him then just said it. I have my scan next Monday, I decided to just use a day of holiday for it, after that I will let HR know and start the paperwork they require etc. I will also speak to my boss again to ask how he wants to approach telling my colleagues as it will soon become very obvious (12 weeks today and starting to show a tiny bit).

InDreamland · 02/07/2018 17:10

@cryptonaut hope you're ok, sending you lots of virtual hugs! If you feel you can talk about it on here we are all here to support you.

@wowthisisreal I had to tell my boss earlier than i wanted to because I felt so awful and felt faint and light headed a lot so was worried about passing out in the office etc. Sworn to secrecy though so will tell a few select colleagues after scan then the rumour mill will do the rest for me.

Sleeping is hopeless, can't get comfortable, then need to pee amd eczema is so sore and itchy. Feeling miserable.

Fruity ice lollies have become my go to snack they do seem to make me feel better in the heat.

InDreamland · 02/07/2018 21:29

Sounds good @purplesmiler.

Hey January Baby Gang!

So we had a bit of a shock in Tesco about 5 weeks ago. We'd been out for dinner with friends and I had a 'feeling' something was different. I bought a test and really needed and wee... so though 'why the heck not' and did it there and then.

Silly me. It was positive.

I walked out into the supermarket, stick in hand, and said the 'F-word' veeerrrry sloooowly and loudly to my husband. Then went and bought folic acid.

I'm 10 weeks. We saw baby's heartbeat at around 5 as we thought I may be miscarrying - luckily all was OK. Sickness has been horrible, I'm bloated like crazy, nothing fits me and I'm obsessed with sofa naps.

How do people make pregnancy looks so easy?

And did anyone else find out in a supermarket toilet? Grin

purplesmiler · 03/07/2018 06:19

Welcome @MotherTT and congratulations. That supermarket will always be special for you both Smile.

I have taken to having a nap when I can sometimes it's just 20 minutes but feels needed.

I don't seem as bloated this week but get the sicky feeling at points throughout the day usually as I need to eat or have a snack.

My back is so achey at the moment and making it even harder to get comfortable.

sexnotgender · 03/07/2018 07:29

Busy busy couple of days but now I’m on holiday Smile 6 more days of relaxing!

InDreamland · 03/07/2018 08:22

Enjoy your holiday @sexnotgender.

Having great fun this morning. Severe delays on tube line, packed platform but I'm only one away from front, empty train comes and love how everyone pushed past me to get the seats. Was goung to have to stand for 45 mins but one bloke kindly let me sit down. People are so rude and selfish. I've always let a pregnant lady on first, especially when she wears the badge so she doesn't get barged and stands a chance of sitting.

OP posts:
purplesmiler · 03/07/2018 09:28

Have a great break @sexnotgender

@InDreamland what a rough start to the day some people are so rude I'm finding my patience is less recently for example getting barged in the supermarket with trollies I keep saying things like manners cost nothing out loud and it may get worse lol.

InDreamland · 03/07/2018 16:29

@purplesmiler I'm the same, my tolerance levels are getting to pretty much no tolerance at all. I hate being barged when not pregnant but being pregnant makea it so much worse and I don't have the energy to get my elbows out either. I'm just so grateful to the young man who jumped as he was about to sit in the last seat (priority seat) when he saw me and the badge otherwise I think I'd have just got off the train and waited for the next one and hoped for a free seat there.

Is anyone finding their coccyx getting a little umcomfortable when they sit?

OP posts:
cryptonaut · 03/07/2018 16:48

@InDreamland I do find my coccyx uncomfortable if I'm not sitting correctly, otherwise it's fine. But my glutes are killing me! I can feel them burn as if I've been to the gym and they feel bruised when I sit.

You're lucky to have had someone notice the badge let alone pay attention to it, whenever I've worn mine no one has batted an eyelid. Here's to hoping that people are more mindful when there's an obvious bump.

InDreamland · 03/07/2018 17:39

@cryptonaut that sounds painful. I do find myself fidgeting to get comfy when i sit.

People don't always see the badge and sometimes just stare then ignore it. I've had mixed reactions and probably been offered a seat about half the time. Some people are just absorbed in themselves, others see but too selfish and others genuinely not feeling great themselves so it's a toss up between being nice and offering a seat but suffering themselves.

OP posts:
cryptonaut · 03/07/2018 19:15

@InDreamland it's more uncomfortable than painful (I'm kind of used to it from all the workouts I used to do).

I guess people don't really understand what you're going through which is why they don't seem to care. Unless you've been through it yourself or been close to someone who had an awful time with the symptoms then it's not possible to understand the changes your body is experiencing. I certainly didn't until a couple of months ago. It's certainly been an education.

m4rdybum · 03/07/2018 22:25

Evening all - I had my scan this morning and all is well. I'm actually 12+4 and now due a little earlier, on the 11th Jan.

DH was great and very shocked at how much it looked like a baby. He's convinced himself its a boy, as he has a "strong profile" Grin

purplesmiler · 04/07/2018 07:19

That's great news @m4rdybum and so exciting.

My back ache made getting to sleep last night a challenge seems to have got more painful the past few days. My DH commented that he noticed my belly seemed a little bigger and firmer when he was cuddling me last night. I'm a larger build anyway but myself when I turn in bed it feels like I've more around that area of that makes sense.

Buttercup53 · 04/07/2018 11:08

Just got home from my scan, went well! I’m 13 weeks and 5 days today, which puts me waaay further on than expected, due 4th January! Got some cute pictures as well, just waiting for the blood results to come back and then if it’s all low risk we can finally tell everyone.
