A question for the formula feeders - have you worked out what brand yet? I'm planning on having some to hand just in case needed (there are no 24hr supermarkets near me and guaranteed I need it at 3am) but there's so many different ones!

GreenGooner · 22/08/2018 12:24

@another we're going for Aptamil. This is just on recommendations from my friends but believe it could be trial and error 😬 we live close to a 24 hour supermarket so will be relatively easy for us to pop out.

wimbler · 22/08/2018 12:37

I read something somewhere which I thought was a good idea - it said to check what brands your closest shop stocks and use that. That way, if you do ever need an emergency supply, you can easily get it. Obviously small local shops aren't likely to be open at 3am but thought it was a good point.

ReiofHope · 22/08/2018 13:21

I got a phone call today and I have gestational diabetes. I don't have a proper clinical appointment with a professional until Friday. I'm confused and upset and feel like it's my own fault since I got pregnant while obese.

I don't really know what I'm doing or what to do. Anyone else in the same boat?

AnotherOriginalUsername · 22/08/2018 13:31

@ReiofHope absolutely not your fault, it's just something that happens to some people. My perfectly-in-the-middle-healthy-range-BMI colleague had GD with both pregnancies.

Try not to worry between now and Friday, if they were concerned they'd have you in sooner. I've got my GTT on 4th September and baby on the growth scan last week has a big (95th centile) waist measurement so wouldn't surprise me if I get a similar result (or it just takes after both parents Hmm)

ReiofHope · 22/08/2018 13:42

@another thank you for the support and words of comfort. I've been very upset and confused all day.
I still don't know what to do. I'm feeling scared to eat. I know there's almost nothing good in this house to eat. I'm bad at looking after myself and now I have to find a way.

Liz3891 · 22/08/2018 13:54

I'm planning to breastfeed if at all possible. I'm not buying bottles/spare formula because I've heard that having them there makes you more likely to give in when the baby is crying at 3am. If you don't have them, you're more likely to persevere and ultimately succeed. Bottle feeding early on can apparently make it a lot harder to establish breast feeding later. I know how I am so I think it's best not to have it in the house. Of course if problems persist, I have no issue at all with formula feeding (I was formula fed and survived after all!).

AnotherOriginalUsername · 22/08/2018 14:15

@ReiofHope you have the biggest motivator sitting inside you right now Smile If they were concerned you'd do yourself any damage they'd have had you in before Friday. Friday they will give you all the info you need, maybe you could plan to do a food shop on the way home? If you're really worried though and it's going to cause you nothing but stress until then, maybe see if you can contact your midwife. I've heard of a good Facebook page for GD if you're on Facebook, I couldn't tell you what it's called though, but could find out.

Italianshark · 22/08/2018 14:32

Yes, my job is to research (fun) and I have researched baby forumla to the depths and back, and pretty much its all the same! So my advice would be to see whats in your local shop. We was going to use SMA but its not in our ASDA or TESCO so sticking with Cow & Gate. I had said to my OH about Aldi one as research shows its almost exact to Aptimil but hes a bit of a "brand twat" haha.

Italianshark · 22/08/2018 14:34

Whilst im talking about brand twats and research - ive also looked into nappies and the Aldi Mamia ones are the most durable, almost more so than pampers so if you have a local one - stock up! It took me having to prove this to my OH before he agreed that £4 vs £9 on nappies which are much better, was a no brainer haha.

GreenGooner · 22/08/2018 14:52

Haha my DH is like this!! Takes all of my might to get him to go to aldi... he was impressed when I got some nappies for 89p the other day and chucked 4 packs in 😂 I'm not sure it's worth it for how much he moans while in there though 🙄

shallen · 22/08/2018 15:16

Same with my husband with Lidl, used to refuse to go in there, till I dragged him in to do a big shop once, he nearly fell over when he saw how cheap it was.... now loves it!

Italianshark · 22/08/2018 15:30

Yeah we did our first Aldi shop Monday and yesterday OH was saying "Oooo the cherries in my lunch today were the best ever" haha.

GreenGooner · 22/08/2018 16:04

I made the mistake of taking him when hungry. I've never spent so much in aldi 😂 it was literally double. It's not the products it's more the experience. He thinks shoppers get the "aldi rage" 🙄 the panic when we were going through the checkout and they were scanning so quickly, was comical 😂

dw23 · 22/08/2018 16:20

I'm in the same boat, when we first got together my husband wouldn't even consider Asda! I'm total opposite, can't resist a deal and he's come around now, we're obsessed with home bargain and B&M, I even picked up some really cute baby vests in Poundland (like £1.50 each I think)! Haven't managed Aldi yet cos we don't have one near but every time my sister passes she buys two packs of Mamia nappies so we're definitely going to be stocking up on them soon. Which is good cos we're going to use Water Wipes which are really expensive!

Emma198 · 22/08/2018 16:46

While the conversation is on nappies... we have 140 size one. Then I read that some babies are in size 2 by the time they're about 2 weeks old 😂 we're going to stock up on wipes instead x

ReiofHope · 22/08/2018 17:12

We have started stocking up on the Aldi nappies, we have 220 size 2 and 168 size 3. We haven't gotten any tiny ones yet since I'm having growth scans all through my third trimester we'll have a good idea how big our baby boy will be closer to our due date.

GreenGooner · 22/08/2018 17:16

I've got 6 packs of size one but no others yet. Finally brought some sleep suits and ordered the next to me crib. Going pram shopping next week and then it's just the little bits. My friends kindly did me an essentials lists so I'm grabbing something every time I go shopping. Starting to get a bit real now!!!

dw23 · 22/08/2018 17:44

@Emma198 Shock Shock You can send any you don't use my way, I don't mind! Grin That's amazing though, fair play.

dw23 · 22/08/2018 17:47

I'm feeling very disorganised now, but we do have our pram at least and the next 2 me crib which I absolutely love and makes everything very very real.

shallen · 22/08/2018 17:53

God I feel really unorganised now too!!
So far we have bought 3 cardigans, couple of sleep suits, some vests and some hats!!

We know where our travel system is coming from though so halfway there and we are getting the family crib. That's all we have sorted so far!

Panicked the other day so made a spreadsheet of what we needed, made me feel slightly better!

Emma198 · 22/08/2018 18:12

@Shallen I had a panic the other day and pulled all the clothes out we have and wrote everything we have so we can figure out what else we need.

@dw23 size one go up to 11 lbs so I thought we'd be safe for a while! Then I read all those people saying that theirs were in them for no time at all. The very top line of my growth chart says she'll be 10lbs if I go to 42 weeks but I'm hoping that doesn't happen 😂

hammeringinmyhead · 22/08/2018 18:37

We've got the pram and car seat, Tutti Bambini bedside crib, Ikea cot bed, some clothes and 2 sleeping/gro bags but it's all still tagged and boxed up in a half-painted room! I'm more bothered about sorting out myself with some loungewear for mat leave and hospital bag stuff at the moment with 12 weeks still to go.

Melaniesunflower · 22/08/2018 21:57

I'm feeling very unorganised after reading some of these posts..... but on reflection I have ordered the pram, have a Moses basket, bouncy chair and baby bath. As for nappies I have a pack of size 1 that was a free sample from Lidl..... we still don't have a moving date, so don't want to buy too much stuff, just to have to move it all, but we can only wait so long.....

orangejuicer · 22/08/2018 22:02

If it helps anyone currently feeling disorganised- we have still bought absolute zero Hmm
