This damn baby! Usually starts getting active at about 5am and stays active all morning. Got to 8:30 this morning having felt absolutely nothing. Finger literally hovering over the maternity triage number in my phone and now it's doing the flipping Charleston in there Hmm

Italianshark · 23/08/2018 11:36

@dw23 awww were the same. We only have the pram and ordering our next to me crib this weekend! Woohoo!

I haven't bought a single nappy yet. I, however, cannot keep myself out of the baby sections in the shops.

hammeringinmyhead · 23/08/2018 11:42

I do kinda hate all the baby movement scaremongering. I don't feel mine for hours at a time, I assume because the anterior placenta is in the way, but I don't know what's normal and what isn't because there's no pattern. But I only had my last appt on Tuesday and he was fine.

HungryN · 23/08/2018 12:10

I’m trying not to get too caught up on irregular baby movements. Of course I am taking it seriously but I can imagine getting myself into a state analysing every tiny movement.

I spoke to the midwife at my last appointment on Monday about it and she said the advice isn’t to count kicks anymore but just to notice it’s pattern. She also said to monitor things over a 24 hour period which I thought was good advice, as if it isn’t doing it’s usual dancing at night that doesn’t mean something is immediately wrong and more likely than not it will be dancing in the morning!

Mine has a definite routine of being very active in the morning until about 11, then goes quiet for an hour or so and then gets going around lunchtime until about 5, then gets going again once I settle down for the evening at about 8pm

Italianshark · 23/08/2018 15:29

My movements differ from day to day though. I feel there is no routine whatsoever. One day she can be moving all day with some fierce kicks all over my belly, then the last 24 hours I've not had any fierce kicks. Some rolling overs I think and some "wriggly" feelings low down, but like I said - some days the kicks are stronger than others.

Anyone else?

Emma198 · 23/08/2018 19:40

Midwife told me that at this point I should be noticing she has spells of movement a similar number of times a day. Not individual kicks. Mines been a bit quieter today but I've felt her with fair regularity so not worried.

I think there's such a careful balance between making sure you know to look out for signs of something being wrong and what to do, and making people worry.

Sometimes mine is already moving when I wake up and sometimes not. Last week I was being kicked hard under my ribs and now all the movement is lower down. It's incredibly hard to judge but I'm hoping now I'm 28 weeks that there might be a pattern soon.

shallen · 23/08/2018 21:36

I'm 24 weeks and can go for a few hours without feeling anything then she seems to wake up and wiggles about like a crazy thing.
But usually 1st thing in the morning, then goes quiet till about 9.30 after breakfast then goes quiet till after lunch then kinda wriggles about through the afternoon then again after dinner!
Basically she just really likes food!

li15 · 23/08/2018 22:37

I am literally going through the same 'concerns' at the mo. Last week I felt quite prominent kicks and movement. Since Sunday however it's not been as active (in my 30th week) and I assumed that it should be getting more not less active. I was considering contacting midwife but thought I'd try to encourage it by lying on my left side and having a cold drink etc etc. All the usual advice. And It seemed to work and I am feeling movement on and off so I am hoping that some is better than none. I have my midwife app on Tuesday so holding out til then.
I was talking to my mum and of course in her day they had none of these scares or talk of monitoring movement. She said she hardly felt me but it wasn't even brought to her attention like it is nowadays and I turned out ok!
So hopefully none of us have anything to worry about 😁. 24hr monitoring is good advice. I'll see what my midwife says x

shallen · 23/08/2018 22:54

@li15

I do find I have busy and quiet days, the last 2 days I have felt her move but nothing for hours on end and then when I do, it's quite faint, then today she is kicking the crap out of me.
Almost like she has tired sleepy days some days.
When I was worried and went to hospital a couple weeks ago, they said sometime it's like she is sitting a bit further back in my pelvis so the kicks don't feel as strong. Dunno how true that is though.

If you are worried, go and get checked out, better than worrying. X

li15 · 24/08/2018 07:47

@shallen thank you! That seems to make sense! I felt quite a big kick just after I wrote my last post (typically!) So I am not worried now 😁 glad all ok with you x

orangejuicer · 24/08/2018 08:24

Hey all. It's so difficult isn't it. I think they definitely do have quieter days. Mine has been relatively quiet since last night but has been moving. I think he might have moved around as I had a couple of kicks by my ribs. My DP is starting to worry that I am getting obsessed Smile

In other news I have permission to break self imposed rule and start buying things Grin

Has anyone thought about names yet?

Italianshark · 24/08/2018 11:34

I did go to maternity unit after a night of drinking tea, fizzy orange at 3am, laying on my side etc as I had a bad back last night and then nothing all night and nothing after my morning cuppa, which is unusual. Drove there feeling empty, heard the heartbeat and I was crying and laughing at the same time (beaut). Typically then after whilst waiting for DR she moved and my dress was bouncing off my bump (hasnt happened in over 24 hrs).

The only negative was sitting in triage whilst a poor woman was in early labour and her baby pooed Sad... very traumatic scenes.

Emma198 · 24/08/2018 12:10

Glad all is OK Italian. Woman in early labour and baby pooing sounds awful, how did you know it pooed?! Is that a daft question?

OP posts:
Italianshark · 24/08/2018 13:29

@Emma198 She was in the toilet in the waiting area and her husband said about the sanitary towel being brown to the midwife and she took it away. Then a few minutes later she came back and told them it was the babies poo and she was being taken down to the delivery ward. Before that though they were about to send her home and to me she looked in agony!

Scary!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 24/08/2018 17:43

Don't talk to me about names!

orangejuicer · 24/08/2018 18:33

Glad you're ok italian

I take it that is a yes another Grin

Emma198 · 24/08/2018 18:38

Ohmygosh I didn't know they pooed before they came out! That's grim!

We chose names right at the beginning, one for a boy, one for a girl. Haven't kept them secret, haven't deviated or even considered anything different. We still don't know what we're having although not through lack of trying to find out.

Sister in law is currently in labour and has decided to use our boys name.

shallen · 24/08/2018 18:54

@Emma198 they shouldn't, can be quite dangerous for them as can cause infections etc, my friends baby did it and was quite unwell when she was born. Few days in hospital and she was ok though.

shallen · 24/08/2018 18:55

@AnotherOriginalUsername oh no! How annoying!!!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 24/08/2018 19:00

Really disappointed with them to be honest @shallen, and husband is very upset. This is what he's always wanted to call a son if he has one. BiL has suggested using it as a middle name so they may change yet but it's not looking hopeful. We've told them we will be using the name either way, we've never had an alternative, so it depends how they feel about 2 boys within 3 months of age in a very close family having the same first and last name Hmm

hammeringinmyhead · 24/08/2018 19:13

Ugh. At least you have told people the name so it's them who look like assholes.

Who decides in labour anyway? Most people decide in advance or after they've met the baby.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 24/08/2018 19:15

I think they probably decided a while back, BiL has been very persistent in asking if we have found out the sex
