I get the same thing, some days it's massive kicks I can see through my jumper, other days it's just little wriggling movement that I describe as like having a ferret in a bag! Some days I don't get anything really noticeable for hours.

I also find guidance to be really confusing and never actually answers the question on the definition of reduced movement. Is it actually a reduction, or stopping totally!

When I went in they said If baby is facing a different way they can be kicking back into your body rather than out the front, so it doesn't feel as strong.

If at all concerned ring the mat unit or midwife, even if it's just to get rid of those niggling doubts so you can enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

dw23 · 02/09/2018 12:50

My baby hasn't ever really kicked much, she's more of a wriggler, constantly moving and rolling around, as long as I feel movement regularly I'm pretty assured everything is fine. I've been pretty lucky (yet exhausted) in that she's a very active baby but I've had no really painful kicks or under rib kicks yet (@30+3 weeks).

Good luck with your scan @AnotherOriginalUsername! Good on you for sticking with the name too regardless, shocking behaviour on the part of your family. 😬

orangejuicer · 02/09/2018 12:57

Thanks shallen. My movements are like that as well.
I'm just fed up of the anxiety. He's kicking me now and has been moving regularly through the morning (with little breaks in between). LIke I said, I have no reason to worry at the moment, it's just the advice is so unhelpful generally and I have a tendency to over-think (and this is a miracle baby and I had a shitty year last year and I generally push the PANIC button).

shallen · 02/09/2018 12:58

Bless you @orangejuicer honestly if you are at all worried get checked out, It's worth it just for a little bit of peace of mind. They were so good when I went in and said any time I'm at all concerned, not to worry about ringing them.

I also feel like I have no idea what I'm doing; never really spent a lot of time around pregnant people or little kids so spend half my life googling random symptoms I have to see if it's normal! Your midwife may be able to allay your fears.

Hope you are ok.

Emma198 · 02/09/2018 13:04

@Orangejuicer I understand entirely. We're still waiting to celebrate, there's always something to feel cautious about. Overwhelming likelihood at this point is that everything will be fine, no one can blame you for worrying. My Mum has said she wishes I'd be more like she was, not a worry in her head from beginning to end, I said there was clearly less to read when she was pregnant! As much as I've found Mumsnet to be a valuable resource there's always someone that the absolute worst has happened to who are all too ready to tell you about it.

@Another I obviously don't know your in laws but I reckon they've thought that because theirs was here first your hands would be tied and you'd be forced to back down. I saw a thread the other day about a woman whose colleague chose the same unusual first and middle name as she had a year previous, and when people have said it's bizarre she's told them that the OP essentially stole her idea a year in advance. Some people just don't have boundaries!

@orangejuicer when are you due to see your midwife next? I'd really recommend discussing your anxiety with him/her. I definitely believe that the moment you know you're pregnant, your anxiety as a parent starts and never ends from there on in(!) but it shouldn't be affecting you to the point where you can't enjoy your pregnancy.

Baby's movements will change as he continues to develop. I'm pretty sure we're around the same point, and at this stage they're developed enough to be rocked to sleep whilst you're walking/driving etc. so that'll make patterns and habits change again.

orangejuicer · 02/09/2018 13:06

One thing I have learnt through all this is baby does not like it when I have a carvery! He goes very quiet and then wakes up once my food has gone down.

I think I'm just after some reassurance and I can't ask my mum as she's no longer with us. She would absolutely have adored this baby.

I have my GTT on Tuesday at my local antenatal unit so I may ask them for general advice then (but obviously ring if anything changes).

Thanks all. I really am a mess of hormones and I've temporarily moved out this weekend so OH can get on with messy DIY. So I'm on my own being a bit pathetic.

shallen · 02/09/2018 13:10

Mines the total opposite with food, she loves it and does a food dance after I have eaten (like me).

AnotherOriginalUsername · 02/09/2018 13:14

@Emma198 has a point about reading too much. I'm pretty much the most laid back person there is, about everything. I skydived from 15,000ft (highest possible without oxygen), landed and my reaction was "is that it?".
I negotiate people back from suicide attempts. My most recent success ended up with armed police outside someone's house and the police negotiators requested I carry on rather than them taking over. This isn't my job, I do this for "fun"!
I've been first on scene at fatal accidents on the motorway more than once and have given and organised first aid, sorted emergency help, controlled the public etc. so calmly that I've been asked more than once if I'm off duty police (I'm not, I tried but they wouldn't have me, I failed the medical!).

....But I won't read the MN pregnancy board. That's too eye opening and stressful!

Emma198 · 02/09/2018 13:16

Mine moves a lot with snacks but not after a big meal, must be a bit squashed in Grin

I had my GTT last week and I'd been a bit concerned as I've not gained any weight at all. My own midwife was dismissive but the lady who didn't GTT was more attentive about it. GTT itself not bad and nothing to worry about. Worst bit was the seat I had to sit in for 2 hours wasn't very comfy. But it was in the reception of the birthing centre and I got to see so many worried/excited/shellshocked daddies go backwards and forwards with bags, car seats, breakfast from the hospital canteen (which is amazing and super cheap), made me so emotional!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 02/09/2018 13:22

My GTT is on Tuesday and I'm pretty sure it's going to come back positive. Baby's head and leg measurements are right on 50% and waist is at 90%! I either have GD or baby takes after both parents!!

orangejuicer · 02/09/2018 13:26

Thanks all Flowers I've just called OH for a pep talk as well so feeling better now.

another I know what you mean. I have found some threads to be useful though, I just steer clear of others. You sound like superwoman!!

emma198 that sounds great Grin I've stopped watching OBEM because the opening credits make me bawl everytime.

Emma198 · 02/09/2018 13:29

My first growth scan is on Tuesday Grin. My GTT was negative. Had my 20 week scan at 20 weeks and 2 days and it had:

Head circumference at 20 weeks
Abdominal circumference at 21 weeks 2 days
Femur length at 20 weeks 5 days

Didn't get any percentages but it looks like small head longish legs and big belly. No one raised any concerns at that point. We'll see what happens on Tuesday!

@AnotherOriginalUsername I have decided you are actually superwoman!

orangejuicer · 02/09/2018 13:34

You guys are awesome.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 02/09/2018 13:38

@shallen I'm nothing special, just seem to have some weird cortisol deficiency! (they have actually checked it as part of my cardiac investigations and it's normal!). Pretty sure it's my years of therapy for anxiety that's just been done way too well 😂

shallen · 02/09/2018 14:11

@Emma198 do you get a growth scan because you haven't put any weight on?

I weighed myself this morning, first time I have been weighed since my booking in appointment as my midwife doesn't do it (is that normal?) put just over half a stone on at 25 weeks, no idea if that's normal or not, I don't look like I have put much on the rest of my body, other than melon up my jumper.

Emma198 · 02/09/2018 14:34

Mine hasn't weighed me once, I think we all put on such differing amounts of weight it doesn't mean too much! I asked if I could weigh myself on her scales last time I went because mine were showing either a small loss or about the same.

I'm getting growth scans because my BMI was 31 when I got pregnant, cut off is 30. I've visibly lost weight from my face arms and legs. The point I made to her, is that I'm classed as higher risk because i was over that cut off at the beginning, but there'll be women who were under the cut off at the beginning who are now a lot heavier than me so technically surely should be higher risk than me now?! But don't get extra monitoring. I'm grateful for the extra monitoring it just seems a bit backward really not to monitor it throughout pregnancy too.

I'd be comfortable with half a stone. My midwife didn't bat an eyelid at staying the same at my 25 week appointment. Some women have put on several stone by now. Don't think there's any right or wrong unless or losing or gaining extreme amounts, then I guess that would cause concern but given they don't weigh us, we'd have to tell them I suppose!

Emma198 · 02/09/2018 14:35

Hasn't weighed my once since my first contact appointment at six weeks I mean! X

AnotherOriginalUsername · 02/09/2018 15:08

I've got growth scans coming out of my ears - what's the "standard" amount for increased BMI? Is it 28 and 32 weeks? I've got one every 2 weeks now Confused

AnotherOriginalUsername · 02/09/2018 15:39

Currently sat waiting for scan. 90 minute journey, baby doing acrobatics. Get here....fast asleep!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 02/09/2018 16:02

Team blue! 💙💙💙

orangejuicer · 02/09/2018 16:12

Congratulations!! Grin

Emma198 · 02/09/2018 16:31

@Another congratulations!!

I have growth scans 28, 32 and 36. Then the midwife the alternate 2 weeks.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 02/09/2018 17:18

So the 4D scan was interesting! Bizarre to see baby on the screen and see AND feel the kicks at the same time. True to form, we have to go back next week to finish it off!
