@marie122018
Hi there! That's post was me! Pleased to report it is getting better slowly over the last few days, just need to hope it keeps getting better. Swimming seems to help once I've got over the pain of climbing down the ladder!!
Hope yours isn't too bad? I debated buying a doughnut to sit on for work, but was put off by the fact that everyone in my office would immediately think I have piles!!!!

shallen · 27/07/2018 20:46

Ps @marie122018 we are almost at the same stage, I'm due 13th December with a girl too!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 27/07/2018 21:15

Popped into Asda after work, needed something quick for dinner after finishing late (2x stray dogs 15 minutes before closing time....with heatstroke 🙄)

Came out with dinner, a multi pack of water wipes (the price of which made my eyes water), a snowsuit and more first size vests and sleep suits than I'll ever need...and £100 lighter!

Hi everyone! Mumsnet newbie here.

Currently 22 weeks pregnant, due 29th November, and found out at our anomaly scan (which i had at 19+5) that we’re expecting a baby boy. Like a couple of others have mentioned, I’m glad we decided to find out as I doubt we’d have been able to deny or ignore his boy-parts!
OH is absolutely thrilled its a boy, and has almost perfected his “I told you so” dance. I was hoping for a little girl, being an older sister myself, but I’m just ecstatic he’s healthy and growing all the necessary parts. I now just cant wait to meet him!

Been feeling baby move and kick for about 4 weeks now, and OH started being able to feel around 2 weeks ago. We feel him every day now (except for one day, which resulted in a panicked call to the midwife and a visit to triage!).

We’re not the highest earners, so we’ve been trying to buy some things as we go to spread the cost a little and make the most of any bargains we see - eBay for our Cosatto Giggle2 travel system (in toodlepip), Mamas and Papas have our deposit for furniture which they price matched for us, the M&S sale sorted us out for some cute little outfits and Amazon Prime day we got a steriliser, GroEgg room thermometer and a breast pump. I feel I might have gone a little overboard!

Looking forward to keeping up with you all over the next 4 or so months! Xx

Emma198 · 28/07/2018 09:51

@EL332 sorry I didn't realise, I thought you were on compassionate leave and they'd put you on unpaid. That is a big difference, speak to your boss and HR to see what their thoughts are and which pay packets they take for your qualifying period.

@another I was thinking the other day about needing a snowsuit! Didn't know anywhere would be stocking them. And a sleeping bag, are you planning on using a sleeping bag? The price of water wipes makes me want to throw up haha.

@Barker welcome! Sounds like you're well prepared. We've settled on the Mamas and Papas Ocarro pram in Mulberry due to how easy it fold up, and I love the colour!

I got this one from asda www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.direct.asda.com/george/baby/coats-pramsuits/white-cloud-print-hooded-quilted-pramsuit/GEM548083,default,pd.html they had the smaller sizes in stock in the store

Emma198 · 28/07/2018 12:51

Oh that's lovely! When are you getting scanned again @another? X

dw23 · 28/07/2018 13:10

@BarkerBump, Hello and congratulations! :) I'm curious to know what kind of steriliser you went for, I've been doing a lot of research and thinkI like the look of Tommee Tippee closer to nature microwave one, it seems to convenient and not too pricey but I'm not sure on what type is best, this is all such a huge learning curve. We also have the Cosatto giggle2, I love it so much.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 28/07/2018 13:43

@Emma198 - in about 2 hours!

@dw23 - I'm going shopping tomorrow and going to get some bottles (planning on breast feeding but want some on standby as I live in the arse end of nowhere and eventually plan on expressing for husband to do his share!) I've been advised to get the steriliser that goes with the bottles I buy as they aren't all a universal fit. My plan is to go and stand and look clueless in Mothercare again until someone tells me what to buy!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 28/07/2018 13:44

@Emma198 re: sleeping bags we're going to swaddle the shit out of it initially 😂 going to start with the Grosnug and then onto grobags. That's the plan anyway. I'm sure it won't work out anything like the plan!!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 28/07/2018 17:29

Sugar, caffeine, running up and down 4 flights of stairs, jumping up and down, jiggling, ice cold water...

And is STILL of incomplete measurement and unknown sex!

Woohoo team yellow 💛

They've agreed that given my almost certain genetic heart condition that they will have one more attempt at the anomaly scan so just got to wait until next week for a phone call with a date.

Will be having a growth scan every 4 weeks so I'm sure we can find out the sex at some stage .....!

Emma198 · 28/07/2018 18:55

Aw naughty baby!

I didn't feel mine move much last night or this morning so called the maternity unit who told me to have a drink and some breakfast and see how it was in a few hours.

A can of lemon sanpellegrino out of the fridge and a kit Kat and she started going mad - i know what to do next time!

Think we're going grosnug then grobag. I like how they have charts saying exactly what layers for what temperature, makes me feel better to be told exactly what to do!

I've got tommee tippee bottles and microwave steriliser, microwave ones seem as quick and easy as electric but cost a lot less and you can keep them in the microwave out of the way i can't see the downside to them.

Late joiner here - yesterday it was confirmed I'm ~21 weeks pregnant. It was a total surprise, as I haven't had a period for several years due to being underweight, and had thought I was probably unable to conceive. Baby is apparently developing fine; on the smaller side, but not worryingly so. Partner and I have decided to leave sex as a surprise - you know, we might as well continue the unexpected theme!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 28/07/2018 20:12

Aw what a lovely surprise Seeyounexttue! Plus it means you don't have so long to wait! How did you work it out, out of interest? I've never understood how people don't realise they're pregnant, but I've had such a straight forward, easy pregnancy so far, that I think I get it now! I don't think I'd know if we hadn't have been actively trying.

I've just sorted out my "gradually accumulated box of baby clothes" before heading into town tomorrow. Hadn't realised that I'd amassed so much stuff already - largely eBay job lot bargains!

Seeyounexttue · 28/07/2018 20:33

I'm a fitness instructor, and have a reasonable six pack, so it looks like baby managed to hide behind that. I noticed I'd gained a bit of weight and looked a bloated, but put it down to being a bit less active in the recent hot weather.

Went to the doctor due to constant nausea, tiredness and breast changes. Looking at it now I probably should have worked it out!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 28/07/2018 20:58

Mine hid for a while under the flab... definitely not a 6 pack 😂 I have binned off Pilates now though, but I'm not even going to pretend I'm sad about that!! My poor bike is also now sitting redundant in the spare room - I'm way too much of a liability to ride it safely whilst pregnant!

Emma198 · 29/07/2018 11:35

@Seeyounexttue you've saved yourself 4/5 months of worry there! Congratulations Smile

Productive shopping trip today (whilst simultaneously ebaying!) and I'd say we're probably almost done!

orangejuicer · 29/07/2018 14:46

Hey Another well done.
I've literally done no shopping and not planning to until 30+ weeks. Should I re-think this flawless plan?

dw23 · 29/07/2018 14:52

@AnotherOriginalUsername that's amazing, well done, I wish I was that organised! Did you end up buying any breast pumps yet? I really want to get the Ardo Calypso double Plus cos it's MN best buy but it's so pricey, I mainly want to breastfeed naturally as well but think option of expressing is also very good idea.

Whooping cough vaccine, any one feel really poorly for a few days afterwards? I had mine done on Friday morning and still feel super lethargic, a bit sick with dodgy stomach and occasional racing heart and had reduced movement on Friday but she's back kicking like a trooper last two days.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 29/07/2018 15:22

@orangejuicer entirely up to you. We don't have a huge disposable income (we both earn under £20k each) so have just got things as we go along rather than a big shopping trip. Most clothes have come from eBay although we have got some of them new.

I've not got a breast pump yet as they are quite pricey and everyone says you shouldn't express until at least 6 weeks of breastfeeding, so figured that can wait. Did buy bottles today though, went for the Mam self sterilising ones.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 29/07/2018 15:44

Also, I very much hope to go to 38 weeks as planned but in reality if things go wrong with my heart failure, baby could be here as early as 28 weeks

EL332 · 29/07/2018 20:21

@Another can you give us a rundown of what you got? My heads all over the place and I need a good list 🙂❤️

AnotherOriginalUsername · 29/07/2018 20:45

My list of bought so far...

Vests
First size/newborn x13
0-3m x35 (I admit my eBay bundle buying went a bit crazy!)
3-6m x1
Sleepsuits
First size/newborn x6
0-3m x6
3-6m x4
Tops
3-6m x1
Bottoms
0-3m x3
3-6m x1
Blankets x3
Towels X3
Sleeping bags
0-6m x1
Hats x7
Snow suits
First size/newborn x1
0-3m x1
3-6m x1
Scratch mitts x1 (most of the sleep suits up to 0-3m have them built in)
Coats
First size/newborn x1
0-3m X2
6-9m x1 (just because it was the most adorable little yellow waterproof coat!)
9-12m x1 (simply because it was M&S brand new and 99p on eBay)
Bibs x6
Booties x1 (the most pointless things ever but husband wanted them)

Equipment wise...

Travel system (pram, pushchair, infant carrier car seat)
Bottles
Moses basket
New chest freezer (I'm a big fan of bulk cooking!)
Baby bath (just got a plastic one with a drain in the bottom - will likely bath on the kitchen draining board with plug over the sink to save my poor back!)
Changing mat
A few toys (mainly the Lamaze ones - for car seat)
Slowly stockpiling things like wipes, cotton wool, nappy rash cream, baby bath, maternity pads, nipple cream etc. Just a few items each time we go shopping.
Hospital bag stuff
Dark towels (x2 as I'll be in almost a week, husband can bring them home to wash and dry. Hospital towels are bloody awful).
Massive pants x10 pairs (on offer £2.50 for 5 in M&S!) for post birth - comfort at disposable prices.

Still to buy:
Grow snug to swaddle the shit out of him/her
Ewan the dream sheep!
Breast pump (will wait until supply established - there's a local group near me where you can rent pumps to try before committing to buying)
Sling - as above via local sling library
I get my annual bonus in my August pay so will use it to buy...
Cot bed - getting this one next month www.argos.co.uk/product/2799711 as recommended by a colleague who is now about to evict her toddler and use it for her 4th baby.
Mattress - for above bed
Chest of drawers - the holy grail in drawers - www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/chest-of-drawers/malm-chest-of-6-drawers-white-art-10214557/
Bedding - sheets for Moses basket and cot
Couple more sleeping bags
Will probably get some larger size vests and sleep suits if we ever find out the sex although if it's a boy we'll have a lot of hand me downs - have one nephew who will be exactly a year older (my due date is his birthday) and another nephew is due in September.

I think that's it!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 29/07/2018 20:48

The tops and bottoms I'm not particularly bothered about but they were in various eBay bundles that I got.
