Getting pregnant after implant removal

I was just wondering about people’s experiences with contraceptive rod removal? I had my contraceptive rod removed on 25th April so two weeks yday. I had it removed as want to try for second baby. I haven’t had my period yet although I feel like I’m about to start it I don’t. I have been testing with ovulation sticks and it’s always saying negative. Tested daily apart from around 4 days in total and apart from day of removal. Was wondering how long it took people to get pregnant after rod removal and for their periods to return? I have been a bit run down from this rod removal something which hasn’t really happened before thanks!!

Hi @SadieMcdadie1 I am not pregnant yet, however I have a couple of doctor pals who I've turned to and of course the NHS website, so feel comfortable saying - cycle may not go right back to clockwork or regular ovulation right away so regular sex throughout the month is the most reliable way to 'catch' the ovulation. Sperm lives longer in you (gross I know) than the egg so sex every 2 to 3 days should do it. That's the science, anyway. Doc pal has also said sometimes the ovulation kits can tell you you're ovulating too late ie on the last day, so the ones that indicate you're 'ovulating soon' as well are a better bet. Lastly, being relaxed can play a part so personally I'm trying not to track or stress. Easier some days than others. Hope this all helps demystify some things, it's a bit of a minefield out there for information! Best of luck xxx

@Ducky96
Thank you 🥰

@SadieMcdadie1
Me personally I wouldn't track, it stressed me out since I wasn't getting regular periods at all (3 periods in 1 year). so when I stopped tracking I told my doctor what was going on and they asked if I wanted my bloods taking to see if everything was fine, then last Wednesday i wasn't feeling so good (cramping) I took a test and found out I was pregnant 🥰 it has took me a year to fall and I was on the implant for 6 years without no periods. Also you don't need a period to ovulate.

Mumma331 · 18/08/2020 23:51

Hi I’m in a similar situation. I had my implant removed about 16 months ago...I went on the pill for a couple of months then stopped all contraception completely. My periods are still really irregular. Like 40+ days! Ovulation sticks and pregnancy tests always negative. Currently being referred to gynaecologist to have my blood test checks to check hormone levels and if I am ovulating and my parter has had a sperm test. We both have children from a previous relationship so I thought I would fall pregnant straight away x

Amyq726458 · 19/08/2020 08:25

@Mumma331
Some people fall straight away and others don't, i was on the implant for 6 years with no periods, when i got mine removed i had only had 3 periods so I was getting my bloods taking just like you are and then 2 weeks today I found out i was 4-5 weeks pregnant. It has took me a 1 year to fall, also you dont need a period to ovulate, you ovulate before a period comes, try not to stress you may just need medication if your progesterone levels are low. Hopefully you will fall soon goodluck

Hi sorry to jump on this thread!
I had my implant removed on the 9th of July I had rarely any periods for the 1 and half years it was in maybe a bit of spotting every 6 months anyway, I had this spotting the day before it was removed and then still spotting for 2 days after it was out it and then turned into a full on cramps clots heavy period which is my normal, that ended on the 17th of July and 2 weeks after that I had more spotting which I thought was to do with ovulation, my period was due on the 16th of this month and still hasn't turned up and only getting negative tests does anybody have any idea what's going on? My cycles are roughly 35 days. I'm just confused we would like to fall pregnant ASAP but my implant removal was delayed by 4 months due to Covid this is our 2nd baby and we would love a smaller age gap

Amyq726458 · 21/08/2020 19:41

@Till64
Your body just needs to get back to normal, it took me 6 weeks for mine to return and I've only had 3 period in 12 month and I have falling pregnant. Just keep taking a pregnancy test every 5-6 weeks and try not to stress. It will happen just give your body time to get back to normal.

SadieMcdadie1 · 27/08/2020 14:12

@Amyq726458 Just a wee update since the last. :) I got my period on the 15th and it ended round about.. the 18th- 19th. My app is saying that ovulation (if it occurs) would be taking place tomorrow, i've had egg white-like CM and i'm just wondering if its possible to ovulate that fast? Ovulation tests are still coming out negative, but its the CM that made me think i might actually be ovulating? I've noticed a massive change.
@Till64 Wishing you the best of luck and all the baby dust

Amyq726458 · 27/08/2020 17:29

@SadieMcdadie1
I'm not too sure, I stopped all the ovulating strips because it was stressing me out even more, so i just took a test every 5 weeks, you ovulate before your period so after you have had a period its normally 11-14 days before your next period when you ovulate, so hope this helps a little, and thank you, ive been getting moring sickness and its horrible.

SadieMcdadie1 · 27/08/2020 18:02

@Amyq726458 I had the box of ten clear blue ovulation strips and i got some on amazon for later down the line if we don't conceive, so i know they're there. I've been taking my prenatals and we've been having intercourse atleast every second day. It just frustrates me that i used to know when i was ovulating, my period was always on time, but now i don't even know if im ovulating, if i should trust what some of the app is saying? :(

Amyq726458 · 28/08/2020 09:03

@SadieMcdadie1
Try not to stress I only had 3 periods coming of the implant in 12 month and when I had the impant In i had non, if I was you stop tracking and just have intercourse every 2 days and take a pregnancy test and see what happens good luck

LouRx · 02/01/2021 22:19

I got my implant removed 16/12 and had a period on the 19/12/21 and used a period tracker to see when I was ovulating and it said between 28th-2nd! I took ovulation tests 31st and 1st and they was negative. Has anyone else found this? Could I have ovulated early? I am desperate to have a baby after finding out my partners sperm has finally come back to normal levels after having cancer 😩

SadieMcdadie1 · 09/01/2021 01:59

@LouRx
Hi!!!!!!
So sorry it’s taken so long to reply.
I’m sorry to hear about your partner. I’ll update you on my situation just incase you’ve been reading through. I got my implant out on the 10/08/20 and I’ve had a period every month since but still haven’t fallen pregnant. Every person is different; some people ovulation returns to Norma whereas mines didn’t and my dates were all over the joint. It’s now saying that I ovulate around seven days after AF Which in my mind is really early.
Have you had a period yet? Do you get ovulation pains aswell? Sending baby dust your way!!!💛💛💛💛💛💛

Nesski · 09/01/2021 04:09

@LouRx absolutely the tracker could be wrong, I used natural cycles and it just stressed me and my husband out for 4 months and then the 5th month I was pregnant. I took the implant out in April and had been on it for 8 years, my periods beforehand had come every 28 days like clockwork, when the implant was out I was bleeding anyway, then my 'normal' periods came 25, 26, 27 then 28 days later. In the last month I didn't look to see when the tracker said I was fertile, we just got under the covers every 2 days 1 week after my period!

SadieMcdadie1 · 09/01/2021 17:17

@Nesski so how many months did it take you to conceive? I’m still not testing until my period is supposed to come which is just over a week

Amyq726458 · 14/01/2021 20:51

@LouRx
You normally ovulaten14 days before your period starts thats If you have a period every month, your most fertile on day 12,13 and 14. For me I was on the implant for 6 years and when I got it removed I only had 3 periods, I did the tracking and ovulation strips and I was getting worried, kept coming up not ovulating or negative test, so I stopped it all, if you don't get a period it doesn't mean your not ovulating it just means you havn't had a period yet, everyone body works different, then in August 2020 I found out I was pregnant after 12 months of trying, I am now 27 weeks and 4 days with a little girl. See I stopped all the tracking and it stopped me stressing out and then bam out of no where I was pregnant, it will happen for you don't worry 🥰 so for me I think it was stress with tracking all the time

Amyq726458 · 14/01/2021 21:05

@SadieMcdadie1
Fingers cross you get that positive soon 🥰

SadieMcdadie1 · 15/01/2021 02:24

Ash misses I really hope so too. Four days until AF shows her ugly mush. Don’t feel too hopeful this month. Have a heavy period like feeling so I really hope if it’s not this month it’s soon. So glad to see your little girl is comfy in there!!! Hoping she stays comfy until it’s her time to arrive and that everything goes well for you. God knows you deserve it 💛🥰

Amyq726458 · 15/01/2021 11:36

@SadieMcdadie1

Thank you very much 💖 I will be keeping my fingers cross for you 😊

Rebeccaaaas06678 · 08/02/2021 23:24

Hello, I’m new to this! I had my implant taken out in September and had my period a week later. Missed a few periods after this but got negative tests! I’ve had two regular periods in January and February so I’m hoping this month will be the one!!!!! I’m going to test in 3 weeks time and hope for a BFP xx

Amyq726458 · 09/02/2021 20:41

@Rebeccaaaas06678

Goodluck, took me a year to fall pregnant and that was with me only having 3 periods after my implant, I had the implant in for 6 years and had no periods when I had it in. I am now 31 weeks pregnant with a little girl 🥰

Nesski · 09/02/2021 22:30

@SadieMcdadie1 sorry I didn't respond! It took us 5 months!

Lollipop25 · 09/02/2021 22:35

Took me a full year to get pregnant after getting mine out. 🤷‍♀️Sounds like it depends on the woman.

Rebeccaaaas06678 · 10/02/2021 22:37

Oh really! Yeah all depends on the woman I suppose. Thank you for your responses, it’s been 6 months now so hopefully this is the one xx

Rebeccaaaas06678 · 10/02/2021 22:38

How long did it take everyone to fall pregnant after implant removal? X
