25 weeks waters broken - help

Can’t believe I’m asking this on mumsnet but...am lying in a local hospital bed, waters have broken, not yet in labour but cervix open a bit...local hospital have been trying for 2 hrs to find me a bed in a neonatal unit...they have found one at St Thomas’s but waiting to hear whether there is a bed for me. They have told me I might then have to wait another 2 hrs for an ambulance to transfer me. Has anyone ever used a private ambulance service? Any advice as to what I should be asking for / demanding? I am conscious that I could go into labour at any minute and at that point it will be touch and go for the baby who will need a neonatal bed. They have given me steroids / antibiotics etc.

Congratulations! Will keep you both in my thoughts Flowers

There was a MN'er last year called Titchypanda whose daughter was born at 25 weeks, it looks like she's doing fantastically now!

Congratulations on your baby boy. Modern medicine is amazing isn't it! Seems like a very strong willed little boy already! I like the idea of making videos for him, nice way for the children to get involved x

Congratulations! So nice to hear he's fighting. I once nursed a little boy who was 18 months old and he was born at 24 weeks, you would never know and he was perfectly healthy. Babies are strong little things and Alexander sounds like a fighter, love to you all Flowers

blueobsessive · 14/11/2017 12:42

Welcome to baby Alexander. Excellent name. Lots of love. Hope you are doing ok yourself. You did brilliantly holding on that long. The charity Tommy’s (the prematurity charity) has just launched a premmie app for recent parents.

Neonatal staff are truly amazing people. I had have two prem babies, at 24 weeks & 31 weeks. My best advice would be - Just keep talking to them (staff) about everything that is on your mind. Everything. It helps because it can be a tough and long journey but there is so much love there to support you x
